The next morning, all the students saw a new staff member sitting next to Snape, who looked somewhat flustered at the new staff member. But when Snape moved to get up, she followed him out of the room.
They later found out that the new staff member was an assistant for Snape and a tutor for those students who needed the help with Potions. A few of the students hoped she was a lot nicer than Snape was.
The Ravenclaw students who filed out of the classroom while the Gryffindors and the Slytherins waited to enter. They all told them that she was great! “You'll love her!”
The minute they took their seats, Snape ordered Neville upfront. The boy trembled as he approached the Potion Master.
“Yes, Professor?” asked Neville.
“Gather your books and follow Miranda out of this room. All of you start working on this potion NOW!” Snape snarled off, as he turned towards his desk and sat down.
Neville followed Miranda out of the class and down the hall to an empty classroom. He wondered what was going to happen to him there.
“Please put your books on the table and come here, Mr. Longbottom,” spoke Miranda, looking at him gently as she pointed towards the table near her. “I'm Miranda McShale.”
“Yes, ma'am,” Neville said, as he walked over the table and placed his books on the table.
“Professor Snape tells me that you are his worst student that he ever had in his entire tenure at Hogwarts. I want to prove him wrong. You must have some type of disability...not that it's bad. It might be as simple as not really able to decipher some of the letters,” said Miranda, as she pulled out some papers, which she had him write on as she gave him a small assignment to do.
It was an hour and thirty minutes later, she figured what he had and it was dyslexia. Neville didn't see most of the words correctly like everyone else did. The words were mixed up and that's why most of his potions blew up and one of the other reasons was that Snape scared him and even if he tried hard, he would always make an error. Neville was so happy that he was not purposely blowing up the cauldrons.
Miranda set his tutor sessions with her before dinner so they would have time to go over the homework of all his classes and she told him that she would inform the other teachers about his dyslexic problem. Neville started to pace in the room.
“It's not that scary, Neville. You can work around your problem easily as long as you keep your notes in order and I'll help you during Potion Class. I'll inform Professor Snape that you will need to be tutored and that I should assist you during the class,” spoke Miranda, watching him pace.
“But he will not allow it!” spoke Neville, scared.
“He will allow it, Neville. He'll have no choice in this,” Miranda said, as she helped him rewrite all his current notes to have everything in order. “I think you have only an half an hour left in Potions. Do you wish to join the class or head for your common room?”
“I think I will rejoin the class and get the notes down for the potion that they are working on. Will you be my tutor, Miranda?” asked Neville, looking at her as he collected his notes.
“Of course but I'll also be those who need the tutoring as well. We better hurry back to class before old grease head really chews into us,” said Miranda, with a smirk on her face as Neville giggled at what she had called Snape.
“I won't tell anyone what you called him, Miranda,” whispered Neville, as they walked into class together. Neville quickly went to his seat next to Seamus.
“Mr. Longbottom, I expect to see your potion done tonight after your tutor session with Ms. McShale. And it better be perfect!” snapped Snape, his eyes glaring at Neville.
Neville didn't even cower like he usually would do. “Yes, Professor Snape. It will be, sir.”
By then the Slytherins were all chuckling loudly at what Neville said. Neville kept his head up and not looking away from Snape.
A voice hissed, “Twenty points deducted from the Slytherin house for those uncalled for snickers.”
The Slytherins all turned towards the voice to see it was Snape. He had removed house points from his own house! They looked shocked at him.
Snape had finished reading the piece of paper that Miranda had handed to him. He started to whisper to Miranda and then noticed that everyone was looking at them. “This class will be losing a lot of points if I don't hear cauldrons being stirred in the next two seconds!”
Everyone quickly started to stir their cauldrons. Miranda was now starting to walk around the room, reminding one person to sit up straighter or he'll be rushed to the hospital wing for burns. Draco frowned at her as he did what she told him to do. He also dropped a note on the ground which he got before class started.
Soon, class was over and the students all left the room. Miranda was washing off the students' desks when she noticed the piece of parchment on the ground. She picked it up and read it.
'My dearest Draco,
I wish we had the same classes together but I'll see you later on tonight in the room.
You know the private room we found the last time we were out.
I have something to tell you.
GW.'
“Severus, I think one of your students from the Slytherin house is thinking about doing a late night encounter with another student from another house…and it's Draco.” spoke Miranda, as she handed him the note she found on the floor.
“So that must have been the reason he barged into my office that night. He was having a small problem with his girlfriend. But the initials are totally wrong for Pansy Parkinson....they could easily be another girl's name. I'll have to figure who it is,” mused Severus, as he put the note on his desk.
“Severus, I think I have a clue to who the girl is,” Miranda stated, as she looked at the note again.
“Who could it be?” asked Severus.
“There is only one person who has those initials...Ms. Ginny Weasley,” said Miranda.
“I think I should have a little chat with Draco Malfoy right now and find out who is this GW,” spoke Severus, as he started to walk towards the door.
“And I will go find Ms. Weasley and have a little chat with her, if she's not busy,” Miranda said, as she walked with Severus up the stairs towards the main floor.
A couple of hours later, Miranda returned. Severus had just finished his chat with Draco and he was walking out of Snape's office.
“Well, how did it go with Ms. Weasley?” asked Snape, as he looked at her.
“It went all right. I got lied to at first but I got the truth out of her. She was the one who sent the note to Draco. They are in love with each other,” said Miranda. “She promised not to write anymore notes in class. So how did it go with Draco?”
“I got the same thing out of him that you did with Ms. Weasley, Miranda. He's ashamed that he is in love with someone in Miss Weasley's class status and that his father would not approve of her cause she's poor,” spoke Severus.
“I guess when you are poor or rich and in love you shouldn't really care what others think…unless you think about going all the way with that person,” said Miranda, as she looked at her folder she had in her hand.
“Going all the way?” asked Severus, with a strange look on his face.
“Meaning getting laid, making out, shagged. There are a lot more…um…nastier words for going naked and putting your shaft up your girlfriend's hole,” chuckled Miranda.
Severus snorted at the obvious sexual discussion that Miranda was telling him. “I never heard anyone state it as obvious as that, Miranda. Sounds like you are want to be in Draco and Ginny's situation.”
“Not exactly. I wouldn't have sex with anyone unless it was completely mutual. But I did tell Ms. Weasley that she better have that discussion with her mother soon and go about getting witch birth control pills and wizard condoms so when and if she and Draco decide to go all the way, she'll be protected from the possibility of becoming his bride and the mother of his child before they are ready for that responsibility.” Miranda stood up and headed out of the office since she was going to be late for Care of Magical Creatures.
