Also, I feel I must justify Hemione\'s reaction to her rape. Although her reaction may not be typical of rape victims it is not unheard of, and I speak from personal experience. In my case it was a result of systematic long-term sexual abuse, nothing as brutal as Hermione experienced, but like Hermione, I kept it a secret, and without the help of counselling, I put the weight of the blame on myself. Yes, I also blamed my abusers, but the main cause in my eyes was my unattractiveness. I never had a boyfiend and , once the abuse stopped I decided the only thing I could do to become attractive was to become sexually promiscuous. I travelled this destructive path for 15 yars before I sought professional help and even today, more than 15 yeas later, I have to take care when forming relationships so I don\'t fall back on old habits.
But fear not, Hermione has one thing I did not, she has a good friend in Ginny, who will make sure she does not destroy her life completely. She also has Snape, who was attracted to her before the attack.
