Chapter 4 - An Ordinary
Monday
Hermione stepped into the
common room, it was quiet but Ron was sat on his own by the fire.
Hermione sat down next to him and he looked up from his homework,
giving her a wide grin.
"How did your date
go?" He asked jovially. Hermione shrugged and lay back into the
soft cushions of the sofa. Ron frowned. "Not good?"
"Perfect. Too
perfect. There was no spark." She looked utterly deflated,
although Ron didn't really understand what she meant, but he knew
well enough not to say anything. "That's really important, isn't
it?" Ron shifted in his seat.
"Erm, yes? I don't
know 'Mione. Why you asking me?" She smiled at him and got up
slowly.
"I'm off to bed,
Ron. See you tomorrow." He gave her a feeble grin and Hermione
climbed the stairs feeling as though she had lead weights tied to
her. Her date with Terry had been nice, that was such a sickly word
and it summed the night up perfectly for Hermione. They had met after
dinner and sat and talked for over an hour outside, watched the sun
set and gone for a walk. They had kissed too, it was a soft and
gentle kiss that did absolutely nothing for her, the romance of the
setting felt forced and contrived and she just hadn't been able to
relax.
Her sleep that night was
restless, full of peculiar dreams involving Terry being attacked by
blast-ended skrewts. When she woke up in the morning she still felt
tired and she knew that Terry was not the right person for her.
It was a perfectly
ordinary Monday, except that Hermione had to tell Terry that it
wasn't going to work out. Not wanting to waste any time she followed
him from the hall after breakfast and caught up with him half way up
the first flight of the grand staircase.
"Hermione?
Everything ok." He asked, seeing the frown and her nervousness.
"I wanted to thank
you for last night." He tried to smile, but couldn't help
sensing what was coming. "But I don't think it's going to work
out." Hermione paused, staring resolutely at the floor. Terry
stroked her arm tenderly and she looked up at him. "Sorry."
"That's ok. I feel
the same." The tension lifted somewhat and Hermione breathed a
sigh of relief. "Good luck Hermione. I hope you find somebody
that you click with."
"Thanks Terry. I
appreciate your willingness to help." They both smiled and
parted company. Hermione's head was spinning as she made her way to
Potions. She tried to focus her attention on her list and decide who
to approach next. Before she realised it, she was at the door to
Snape's classroom and the small group of students waiting outside
greeted her casually. All except Malfoy, who was talking quietly to
Blaise at the front of the queue. Harry took her arm and pulled her
into line behind him.
"You ok?" He
asked quietly.
"Hmm?" She
looked at him, snapping out of her reverie. "Yeah. Fine. I just
had to tell Terry the bad news." Harry nodded, a small smile
creeping across his face.
"Ron told me. Look,
I know this isn't the best time, but I wanted you to be the first to
know." He looked around for eaves droppers. "Ginny agreed
to marry me." His smile widened and Hermione's mouth dropped
open.
"Oh Harry. I'm so
glad." She gave him a warm hug and pushed aside her thoughts
about how unfair it was that he'd found it so easy.
The classroom door flew
open and the class filed in quietly, Snape was holding the door and
watched them take their seats. Potter and Granger seemed in good
spirits, both smiling and whispering as they got their things out,
Snape observed as he slammed the door and stalked up to the front of
the room. Shouldn't they both be nervous wrecks about now? They
should be desperately asking every pureblood to cross their paths to
marry them. He found this preposterous law an insult, but didn't feel
that it would really affect him, he expected to see students up in
arms about it though, not sat grinning and giggling like that. It was
a marked difference in Miss Granger's behaviour. He had thought she
looked livid at breakfast the day she got her letter when she looked
up at him, he pitied her and others in her situation, not quite
knowing what to make of it all. Why she was looking at him for some
sort of reassurance though was beyond him.
As the students filed
back out of Potions at the end of the lesson, Hermione stalled
slightly, something was holding her back and she didn't know what it
was. She turned her head and watched as Snape tidied his desk,
gathering some scrolls and a few books together in a neat pile. She
shook off the strange feeling that she couldn't identify and ran
after Harry, but he was already well ahead of her, almost at the
steps up to the entrance hall, so she slowed to a walk and gathered
her thoughts. She nearly jumped when she felt someone fall into step
beside her.
"Why do you always
seem surprised to see me?" Blaise asked with a wicked smirk.
"Because you always
sneak up on me!" She laughed. He casually linked arms with her
as if it were perfectly normal, she gave him a searching glance. What
was he playing at?
"So. How did it go
with Boot?"
"How on earth did
you know anything about that?" She challenged with a
disbelieving laugh.
"You should know by
now, I have eyes and ears all over this place." He swept his
free arm up in a grand gesture and nearly knocked out a second year
trotting along just behind him. Hermione controlled her laughter with
difficulty as she stopped Blaise and turned to the small boy.
"Are you ok?"
"Sorry about that."
Blaise offered, straightening the stunned boy's robes and ruffling
his hair with a heavy hand. "Off you go." He nudged the
child along and he practically ran away from them in fear. "Do I
often have that affect on the little ones?" Blaise asked as he
watched him run up the stairs two at a time.
"Yes." Hermione
mocked. They set of walking again and Hermione took the opportunity
to link her arm with his, letting him know his earlier gesture was
welcome. He smiled down at her. "Blaise? Would you consider us
friends?" She asked, trying to sound casual.
"Of course." He
answered with ease.
"Would you consider
taking me out sometime?"
"Yes." He said
with just as much ease. Hermione's face split into a beaming smile.
"When and where would you like to go?" They had reached the
entrance hall and stopped by the grand staircase, people bustled
around them, gently knocking the Head Boy and Girl closer together.
Hermione could feel herself blushing at the contact and felt a
flutter in her stomach.
"Um, I don't know.
Tonight, surprise me."
"Ok." Blaise
took her hand and kissed the palm softly before turning and heading
outside for his Herbology lesson. Hermione set off for Arithmancy
with a bounce in her step.
The day passed in a rapid
blur, Hermione's attention was firmly fixed on her evening with
Blaise. She could hardly believe he had agreed so readily. She
thought they were already too much in the friend zone, despite her
attraction to him and was sure he knew exactly why she was interested
in going out with him. Why would he be interested in marrying her?
She puzzled over that question all day, the only answer she could
satisfy herself with was that Blaise Zabini actually enjoyed her
company and felt they could potentially be happy as husband and wife.
As Hermione, Harry and
Ron left Charms at the end of the day, they were greeted by the
subject of Hermione's thoughts. The boys nodded their hellos to
Blaise and went on ahead to dinner.
"Hi." Hermione
breathed.
"I was hoping you'd
join me for a private dinner in an hour?" He asked, turning on
his delectable charm. Hermione simply nodded her reply. "Shall
we meet in the entrance hall?"
"Yes, ok. I'll see
you soon." He flashed a smile and swaggered away. Hermione
practically ran to her room, throwing her bag down by her bed and
opening her wardrobe. "What on earth am I going to wear?"
She decided to mull it over while she showered, stripping on her way
to her bathroom and stepping into the cold cubicle. She turned on the
water and felt the hot stream rain down over her, turning her skin
pink. She showered quickly and dried herself off, still undecided
about her outfit. A liberal application of Sleakeasy's and a drying
charm later and Hermione's hair was tied in a loose knot at the nape
of her neck, cascading over the clip in soft waves. She went back to
her wardrobe and stared at its contents with disbelief. "I have
no clothes." She huffed. Eventually she pulled out a long
burgundy skirt and tight black v-neck top. That would do nicely, but
she really didn't have any shoes that would go with the outfit. She
grabbed her wand from the night stand and probed her memory for the
right incantation. With a flick of her wand, she transfigured an ugly
pair of loafers into stylish knee high, brown leather boots.
"Perfect." She muttered to herself and got dressed, taking
a moment to pick out her nicest underwear, just in case.
Right on time, Hermione
descended the grand staircase, Blaise was waiting for her with his
intense eyes fixed only on her. He greeted her with a soft kiss on
the cheek.
"You look
beautiful." He purred into her ear, brushing her cheek with his
thumb. Hermione's knees went weak and she had to take a breath to
steady herself. Blaise looked stunning in tight black jeans, black
boots and a polo neck cashmere sweater. He placed his hand gently at
the base of her spine and led her up the stairs, away from the
clinking noises and chatter of the hall full of people eating dinner.
"Where are we
going?" Hermione asked softly.
"It's a surprise."
He whispered back.

Snape finished his dinner
and washed it down with a tall glass of water. Minerva was trying to
talk to him about something or other, but his attention was
elsewhere. Both the Head Boy and Head Girl were missing from dinner.
He wasn't aware of any official reason for their absence, Minerva
didn't seem to have noticed.
"Excuse me." He
said abruptly, cutting his old friend off mid sentence. He stood and
marched from the hall, planning to head back to his office to find
something to amuse himself for the evening. He stopped still in the
huge doorway, surprised by the sight before him. He hardly recognised
Miss Granger with her hair like that and out of uniform and he knew
at a glance the young man to be Mr Zabini. He stood in stunned
silence as Zabini kissed Miss Granger and escorted her up the stairs,
his hand gently stoking the small of her back. They were undoubtedly
intimately involved and on their way somewhere private. He spluttered
and stalked down the stairs to the dungeons.
He was thoroughly
confused by the activities of the Head Girl, first Mr Boot, now Mr
Zabini. This was not expected behaviour, even in light of the
marriage law. Snape muttered to himself all the way to his office,
slamming the door behind him and pacing the room with a deep frown
etched on his forehead.
Why did this bother him
so much? He had no interest in the personal lives of students, he
never had before. But Miss Granger's had, for some reason, continued
to grab his attention repeatedly throughout the year. He leaned
against his desk and crossed his arms in indignation.

Hermione and Blaise came
to a halt next to a very familiar tapestry on the seventh floor. She
looked at him suspiciously.
"And how do you know
about this place?" She narrowed her eyes at him and he gave an
exaggerated shrug. "I know, you have eyes and ears everywhere."
Blaise promptly walked back and forth three times, his brow furrowed
as he concentrated hard on what he needed. A door appeared opposite
the tapestry and he grinned broadly.
"Well, well. It
really is true." Hermione hid a smile as he opened the door and
peaked inside, satisfied, he held it wide for Hermione to enter. The
Room of Requirement had really outdone itself this time, in front of
Hermione was a beautiful Italian bistro, complete with al fresco
balcony and enchanted violin playing soft, romantic music. Blaise
took her hand and guided her to the one and only table under the
stars. Hermione couldn't help but giggle at the situation as Blaise
held out a chair for her.
"If we were, you
know, older and free to go wherever we chose, is this where you would
take me on a date? An Italian restaurant?" She asked as a bottle
of wine poured itself into her glass.
"Hmm, maybe.
Although, I know you a bit better than to think you would be seduced
by something so obvious. But, this is what the Room does, creates
perfect settings."
"So," Hermione
sipped her wine, "You want to seduce me?" She cocked an
eyebrow and Blaise laughed.
"Maybe." He
flashed his charming smile again and Hermione's stomach made a now
familiar flippy motion.
"Good." She
said quietly as she put her glass back down. Blaise looked at her
questioningly, and took a long drink of his wine.
The
couple enjoyed a beautiful meal, apparently provided by the house
elves in the same manner as the meal at the Yule Ball in their fourth
year. The conversation flowed easily, they both flirted a great deal
and held hands across the table. Blaise was everything Hermione had
imagined he would be as a date; funny, engaging, charming and a
gentleman. She wasn't fooled though, she knew his Italian passion was
simmering away underneath, she could see it in his eyes and found her
imagination toying with what might happen when the plates were
cleared and the oil lamps dimmed down so that the room was lit only
by the dozen or so candles dotted around.
Before she knew it,
Blaise was standing in front of her with his hand out and the music
had increased in volume.
"Shall we dance?"
"Oh no, I'm a
terrible dancer." But Blaise took her hand and firmly pulled her
to her feet.
"Of course you're
not." He pulled her away from the table and into his arms,
clamping one hand on her back and holding her hand in the other,
close to his chest. He took the lead and moved them slowly about the
floor with expert skill.
"Where did you learn
to dance." Hermione asked, a little surprised that any eighteen
year old boy knew how to dance like that.
"My mum made me
learn." Hermione settled her head against his chest and drank in
his spicy scent, enjoying being treated like such a princess.
It seemed they danced all
night, but eventually, Blaise came to a halt, bringing Hermione out
of her sleepy fantasy of what she would like to happen next. She
looked up at him with a drowsy smile. Their eyes met and in an
instant, so did their lips. It was a passionate kiss, full of longing
and energy. It was nothing like the stilted kiss with Terry, this was
raw and it was going to drive Hermione crazy if it didn't go further.
Blaise walked her
backwards across the room without breaking the kiss and she felt the
backs of her legs connect with something soft, before she knew it she
was lying on a soft bed. The Room had once again provided for its
occupants. Blaise lay tender kisses along her jaw and down her neck,
one hand was on her breast, kneading it gently over her top, the
other caressed her side, sending shivers up Hermione's body. He moved
down her body, softly nipping at her clothes, he undid her boots and
slipped them off, placing them carefully on the floor and then
removed his own boots before returning to Hermione's side and
resuming his ministrations.
After a good deal more
kissing, Blaise lifted Hermione easily, lifted her top over her head
and continued kissing her passionately, delving into her mouth with
his tongue and squeezing her curvaceous body with enthusiasm.
Hermione's hands wandered under his sweater, to his soft, bare skin.
He was hiding some impressive muscles she noticed as she ran her
hands up his back, hitching his sweater up and breaking the kiss just
long enough to yank it over his head. She was becoming breathless and
longed for him to touch her more intimately, she raised her hips
towards him and reached for his belt. He deepened the kiss again and
groaned slightly into her mouth as she undid his belt and jeans. With
ease that told Hermione deep down that he had done this a hundred
times, Blaise slipped his thumbs into the waistband of her skirt and
slipped it over her hips and down her long legs, she kicked it off
her feet impatiently and pulled him back over her greedily capturing
his lips again.
Blaise took a moment to
appreciate the black lacy underwear she had chosen before expertly
removing it and covering her body with his own. Hermione eagerly
removed his jeans and boxers, and raised her hips to him again. He
responded by brushing her trimmed curls and the tops of her thighs
lightly before slipping his fingers between her folds, running them
gently over her clit. Hermione let out a soft moan and grabbed a
pillow, squeezing it hard. Blaise slipped a finger into her slick
passage and felt for her g-spot, giving it a few passes as she
writhed under him. Hermione could feel his erection pressing against
her hip and she grabbed hold of it, she grasped it firmly and began
to massage it as he slipped a second finger inside her and pumped
hard in and out of her. Their breathing became more ragged, their
kisses stopped as they panted softly and Hermione felt her body
responding to Blaise's actions with a very welcome orgasm. She had to
stop her own attentions as her limbs became less responsive, motor
control eluding her as she arched her back and felt her climax wash
over her.
"Oh god."
Hermione whimpered as she came back down slowly. Blaise smiled as he
removed his fingers and licked them clean.
"Hermione." He
murmured into her hair as he repositioned himself over her. "Have
you done this before?" Barely aware of what he had asked,
Hermione nodded and widened her legs for him. In a moment of clarity,
she reached for her discarded wand, muttered a contraceptive charm
and tossed her wand to the floor. Blaise leaned in for another
passionate kiss and slowly positioned his head at her entrance, he
gently dipped into her and spread her juices around before slowing
pushing into her. Hermione thought she was going to come again just
from feeling him enter her and she tightly wrapped her legs around
his hips as he began moving inside her.
He kept it slow at first,
looking into her eyes and stoking her face and hair. Hermione felt
like she was the centre of his world as they moved together,
gradually increasing in pace until they were almost frantic. Hermione
felt another climax coming as Blaise drove into her hard, his
powerful frame pinning her down and his normally slicked back hair
hanging over his forehead, clinging to the beads of sweat forming
there. Hermione called out at the top of her orgasm and Blaise
planted his mouth over hers, swallowing her cries.
Before she came all the
way down, Hermione felt another wave of ecstasy washing over her as
Blaise changed his rhythm slightly, pushing deeper inside her and
pulling almost all the way out before slamming back into her. She
threw her head back and enjoyed her third orgasm, her walls clamping
down hard on his shaft and her nails dug into his back. Blaise
groaned, feeling eight little stings and he released himself inside
her, using her tightness to massage the full extent of his ejaculate
into her, before collapsing on top of her sweating body.
They lay like that for a
while, until Blaise's erection slipped away and he withdrew from a
sleepy Hermione, who squirmed a little as she felt his semen flow
back out of her. Blaise quietly cast a cleansing charm over them both
and settled back into her arms.
"Wow."
Hermione's voice gradually returned to her.
"I suspected you
might have enjoyed that." Blaise muttered softly in her ear.
"Hmm. I didn't
expect it to feel sooo good."
"I thought you said
you'd had sex before?" He questioned gently.
"I have, but it
wasn't anything like that." Blaise suppressed a snort of
laughter and dozed off in her arms.
Hermione's thoughts were
still for the first time in weeks and she drifted into a blissful
sleep.
