Hi there... this is Barb and I'm the author of The Possession. Over the years, I've received many comments from kind readers about this story. Every review and message made me very happy. I think it was an interesting plotline and I apologize that I was not able to finish the story. Thank you very much for reading!
I feel horrible to leave you hanging so here's my poor attempt to give you some closure. I won't be adding anything else for the fic so here is a quick summary of what I had planned for the whole story. This is how it was going to play out...

Draco had took Hermione and left the castle. He didn't have much of a plan and was just running on instinct. At some point, Hermione demands that he put her down. We know our Hermione is never going to be much of a pushover! Not surprisingly, the Forbidden Forest is not a very safe place to be running around in. He finds a small cave, but there are creatures about that wouldn't mind having them for dinner. I envisioned a pair of big, black thorny hulking things with enormous teeth growling and drooling at them.
Draco pushes Hermione in the cave and uses magic to put a protective field across the entrance. Then, he gives control over to the manticore and it fights the beasts. It is a terrible battle that Hermione watches until they roll out of sight. She cries and shouts, but there is no response. On top of that, it seems like she is going to be stuck in this cave forever while fearing the worst.
Has Draco been killed by the beast? But, then she realizes that the force field comes from the power of the manticore and he/they cannot be dead if the field is still active. Her assumption is correct and she finally sees Draco's badly injured figure staggering back towards her. He collapses, but Hermione is unable to get to him because of the field. Draco is out cold and some *thing* is eventually going to come and investigate the tasty smell of his blood. I'm sure you can imagine that she has some choice words for him and their predicament.
Hermione decides to take things into her own hands. She has no wand, but that's doesn't deter her. From her readings, she knows that it is possible to channel your magic without a wand. The wand is merely a conduit to focus that power. She has been researching wandless magic (which is why she was fascinated by Draco's use of wandless magic) and attempts to try it herself. It takes a while, but she is finally able to break through the field. She manages to pull Draco's limp body through it just before some giant wolf-life creatures get to them. The field closes and remains intact to protect them for the night.
Hermione does her best to patch up his wounds and even heals him a bit with wandless magic. She wants him to live so that she can beat the shit out of him for everything he's put her through and for hurting Ron as well. They rest.
In the meantime, Lucius has cooked up a plan. He intends to use Draco to destroy the Order by presenting him to the Dark Lord. He shows up at the cave and manages to take down the field. He takes both Draco and Hermione away and locks them up.
I thought that would be a good opportunity for Draco and Hermione to talk and come to an understanding (when she decides to stop yelling at him and possibly punching him a few times which he deserves). But, Hermione is compassionate as well. She wants to escape, but wants to make sure Draco is safe as well. He slowly heals and gets stronger and more powerful as well with the magic of the manticore.
But, Lucius is his father and he poisons his mind. He tells Draco that he will never be accepted by the Order. He will never be trusted. Potter will kill him if he is given half the chance and Hermione is nothing more than a mudblood who will never love him.
Draco goes through an internal battle with the manticore. The creature is neither good or bad. It has no sides to choose-- it just wants completion, to be with its mate. He feels remorse for what he has done and for putting Hermione in danger. Draco ultimately decides that he must be rid of this possession and asks his father for help to exorcise it.
Unfortunately, he comes to realize that it is the last thing that Lucius wants. Giving him as a weapon to the Dark Lord is more important than familial bonds.
Draco chooses to help Hermione escape. She must go to the Order and tell them exactly what Voldemort's plans are. Everyone is in danger if Voldemort gains control of him and the manticore. Once she is safely away, he will return and use all his powers to kill The Dark Lord once and for all. Hermione is moved by his decision. She argues that it is too dangerous and he hasn't had enough time to practice his magic, but he refuses to listen as there is no more time.
They luck out and find the moment when the Manor is quiet and the dungeons are unguarded. Draco breaks her out and apparates with her back to Hogwarts. This is shocking not only because of the great distance of their travels, but that he could get through the wards that prevent apparation at the school.
Most of the Order is there along with Dumbledore, McGonagall etc. They were planning both a rescue (because they found out they'd been taken)and an expected fight with the Death Eaters. Harry and Ron are overjoyed at seeing Hermione and are surprised that she is well and unharmed.
Everyone's first reaction is to fight Draco. Ron is very close to uttering an unforgivable, but Hermione steps in front of Draco to protect him. It's very difficult to convince everyone that she's not just experiencing Stockholm syndrome! She forgive hims and tells everyone that they are friends. She shows her solidarity by locking hands with him (which makes the manticore purr).
**you can fill in the blanks of really sweet moments of cuddles and comfort between Hermione and the manticore throughout the story. Imagine her blushes now and then when she realizes it's Draco on some occasions**
Draco speaks up and tells everyone that they can throw him in jail again for everything he's done later. Right now, he needs to tell them about Lucius and Voldemort's plans. They need to be prepared for a fight.
Unfortunately, the fight begins early! Lucius let Draco and Hermione escape because they were expecting exactly this scenario! Voldemort studied the way the manticore was able to get through the wards and he had broken through with the Death Eaters. Hogwarts and all its students are in grave danger.
Voldemort casts an Imperious curse on Draco. He has no choice but to fight the Order and destroy everyone in the castle. Good is losing and fast. Harry is doing his best to fight Voldemort, but at this point in this universe's timeline he's not quite ready yet. Dumbledore is injured by the manitcore. Hermione realizes it's really up to her to break through the Imperious curse. She pleads with Draco and the manticore to fight the spell and regain control. It seems nearly impossible and she is flung aside.
Lucius, himself, fed up with the annoyance of the mudblood casts a Crucio on her. As Hermione is screaming and writhing in pain, the manticore hears anguished cries for help. The anger it feels at its mate being tortured is more than enough to overcome the Imperious. The manticore breaks the spell and Draco is the one that blasts his father away. Lucius is knocked unconscious as Draco rushes to embrace and protect Hermione from further harm.
Without the manticore under his control Voldemort is at a disadvantage. He does what he can and injures a number of students and Order members. Draco confronts Voldemort and uses what powers he can to fight him. The manticore take full control and for the first time, Draco's body is completely transformed into this fearsome, but majestic creature. The manticore has chosen a side. It knows that Voldemort must be stopped. Their magic explodes around them as they fight causing the the castle to crumble and catch fire. No one can see anything, but they can hear the roars of the manticore and Volemort's manical laughter has they fight.
It is chaos with the smoke and ruin of the the castle all around them. With a sneer, Voldemeort realizes that he cannot win. His Death Eaters are all being subdued one by one. He vows to fight another day and escapes, but not before Harry shouts a warning to be ready for he will come for him.
But, who survived? The teachers and students sift through the rubble to help those who were hurt. Hermione cannot find the one person that she needs to find. After everything that has happened, she is shocked that what she needs most is to know that Draco is alive.
The ash and smoke finally dissipates and she sees a familiar figure. It is Draco. He stands over the unconscious body of his father.
Hermione runs over to him and throws her around his neck surprising absolutely everyone in the room including herself. Draco smirks and tell her that he knew he'd get to her eventually.
Harry and Ron have some serious issues to take up with Draco, but he doesn't have time for it. Lucius is still his father and he has to do one last thing. He has to save him. This will be the last time he does anything for Lucius. It is the last bit of gratitude and mercy he will show this man.
Hermione nods in understanding as the Order begins to voice their objections. Draco throws his father over his shoulder and turns to leave. But, he turns around again and smiles at Hermione.
"Will you welcome me... if I return to you?" He asks, uncertain.
It is Hermione's turn to smirk.
"Well, maybe the manticore. You... I'm not so sure." She arches her eyebrows.
Draco takes her hand and places a kiss on it. "That sounds like a challenge, Miss Granger."
"Perhaps..." She giggles as he growls lightly before straightening up.
He cheekily waves goodbye to the others in the room, snaps his fingers and disappears.
(The epilogue would've shown them reuniting and then.... who knows *wink*)
