Chapter 4

The dark-haired man watched from his seat as his blond-haired lover paced nervously back and forth across the room. He smiled behind steepled fingers as the other man nervously ran long-fingered hands though already disheveled hair.

“I can’t do this! What am I going to say to them!?” the blond-moaned, pulling hard on his hair.

“I don’t know what you are going to say, love. But if you don’t stop pulling on your hair, your going to be bald before you know it,” the other returned, trying his very best not to laugh out loud at his anxious lover.

“Don’t laugh at me! I know that you are! How can you even think of laughing at a moment like this! We are dependent upon him for our safety,” Lucius yelled, his hands flailing through the air.

Severus stood up from his seat and crossed the room to his over-dramatic lover. While most people saw Lucius Malfoy as a cold, domineering figure, not many knew about his sometimes over-hysterical disposition to new situations. Especially ones that involved his beloved son.

“Luc, don’t worry so much about it. They are both grown young men and I have a feeling that everything will work out fine. Harry is not about to throw us out just because we saw them...”

“Saw what, Uncle Sev?” Draco’s voice came from the doorway. They both looked over to see Draco and Harry standing just inside of the room. Draco was sporting a rather becoming blush, one that caused Severus to chuckle.

“I think you know what, Dragon,” Severus said, “Now since we are all here, why don’t we sit down and talk about your new relationship.”

“I would really rather not,” Harry said, placing a hand on Draco’s shoulder and guiding him to the couch. “I think that we have other, more important items to discuss. Such as the Protectorous’ Curse that Draco found mentioned in Voldemort’s office.”

“But…you…he…” stammered Lucius, one hand waving back and forth between Draco and Harry. Draco’s flush became more pronounced and he moaned, dropping his head into his hands, mumbling ‘It is worse,’ over and over again. Harry laid a comforting hand on Draco’s back and glared over at Lucius.

“Now is not the time, Mr. Malfoy. We have other, bigger fish to fry.”

“Luc, knock it off. You can drill Draco later,” Severus said, ignoring the new moan that issued from his godson. “I agree with Mr. Potter, we do have other more pressing matters to contend with.”

“Thank you, Professor. I will try to being you up to date on what I have found since Draco passed his information. In essence, the Protectorous’ Curse was created to ensure the protection of a village from evil incarnate, their words not mine,” Harry chuckled. “However, the curse was that once cast the spell prevented any interference and over time grew to be too much. I haven’t, as of yet, found out what happened when it got too large, nor have I found anything about the incantation.”

“It sounds like something that may be of use,” Draco said, a hopeful tone in his voice.

“Maybe,” Harry replied, “but what bothers me is what happens as the curse grows. It may help, but it may in the end be something even worse. I have been through nearly every book in my library and still I haven’t found anything of use.”

“I have an extensive library at the Manor, if we could just get to it,” Lucius stated thoughtfully.

“Sir, I may have an idea. If you will bear with me for a moment,” Harry said, before he called out. “Dobby.”

A sharp crack echoed the room and a small, bizarrely dressed house elf stood in front of Harry.

“Harry Potter is calling Dobby, sir?” The little elf looked around the room, his large round eyes growing even larger as they landed on Lucius.

“It’s all right, Dobby,” Harry said, watching Dobby looking at Lucius with a mixture of terror and belligerence.

“Harry Potter is not having any problems with Ex-Master Malfoy?” Dobby asked, his eyes darting back and forth between Harry and Lucius.

“No Dobby, Mr. Malfoy is my guest,” Harry explained gently, drawing Dobby’s attention back to him. “I have a favor to ask of you, Dobby.”

“Dobby would be happy to help the Great Harry Potter,” Dobby said, jumping up and down excitedly at the thought of helping his favorite wizard.

Harry grimaced at Dobby’s ‘Great Harry Potter’ comment, trying to ignore the smirks that came from Draco and Severus. “I need your assistance in retrieving some books from the Malfoy Manor Library. Can you get in and out without anyone seeing or hearing you?”

“Yes, Harry Potter, Dobby can do as you ask. Which books are yous requesting?”

Harry turned to Lucius, “I have a feeling that it is going to be more than one or two, would you be able to write down the ones we would need and then we can send Dobby to retrieve them?”

“That would be fine, Mr. Potter. If you will just wait a moment, I will make a list.”

Lucius left the room, returning shortly with a short piece of parchment, which he handed over to Harry. “These should help, however if they do not, we can always retrieve more later.”

“Thank you, Mr. Malfoy. I appreciate the assistance in this matter.” Harry replied, before turning to Dobby and handing him the list. “Dobby, please make sure you are not seen and don’t leave any obvious clues to you having removed the books. That way if we want to send you for more, it won’t be a problem.”

“Yes, Harry Potter. Dobby will goes late tonight when everyone is sleeping.” With a pop, Dobby disappeared.

“Well, I have to say that was interesting,” Draco said, turning sideways on the couch to smirk at Harry. “The ‘Great Harry Potter’,” he said, laughter evident in his voice.

“Oh shut it, you prat,” Harry grumbled, slapping at Draco’s thigh.

Dinner that evening was entertaining, more so on Harry and Severus’ part than on Draco’s. Both Harry and Severus watched as their blond lover’s bickered back and forth, Lucius intent on finding out about Draco’s and Harry’s relationship and Draco tap-dancing around the conversation.

Harry suppressed a chuckle as Draco finally had enough of his father’s interrogation and stood up abruptly, his chair falling over in his haste.

“Father, I don’t ask you for details about your relationship with Severus, so please stop with the questions about Harry and I. Yes, we are together and no I am not telling you how it happened,” Draco said, his voice raising with each word until he was nearly screaming. “Now if you will excuse us, I am taking Harry upstairs and am going to shag him.”

Draco whirled, grabbing Harry by the arm and pulling him from the kitchen. Harry exchanged a quick, amused glance with Severus, before the swinging door fell shut behind them. He allowed Draco to drag him down the hallway and up the three flights of stair to their room. When the door finally banged shut behind them, he pulled his arm free from Draco’s grasp.

“Do you really think that was necessary, Draco?”

“Was what necessary?” Draco asked absently, as he paced angrily back and forth in front of the bed.

Harry leaned back against the door and watched as the blond muttered to himself, his arms occasionally flailing around. Finally he had enough of Draco’s tantrum and he pushed off the door and caught him around the waist and pull him up short against him. Draco struggled for a moment before he gave in and slumped wearily against Harry.

“Did I really tell my father that I was bringing you up here to shag?” Draco asked as he buried his head in Harry’s neck.

“Yep, you sure did,” Harry replied, “It’s alright, Draco. I am sure that he’ll understand.”

“Hmph,” grunted Draco, “Understand!? Sure he will! All he is going to see is that I am consorting with the enemy.”

“Draco, I thought that your father decided that Voldemort was his enemy, not me. And if so, don’t you think that he would be happy that you weren’t ‘consorting’ with him?”

“I don’t know, Harry. I really don’t know anymore,” Draco said, his voice filled with his weariness.

“You don’t have to think about it right now, love. Look, let’s get some sleep, everything will be better in the morning. Promise.” Harry bought one hand up to cup Draco’s face and raise it up to meet his, placing a gentle kiss upon his lips. Looking down into those beloved blue-grey eyes, he knew that he was going to have to work thing out with Lucius Malfoy to keep his love happy.
