A/N: Next chapter of "Harry's Child." I'm putting him through the ringer again. Hope you all enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 2: Surrogacy

�Harry, I know the whole adoption thing and foster parent thing hasn�t worked out, but have you thought about maybe hiring someone to have a baby for you? I was just reading an article about surrogacy mothers. St. Helena�s has actually been conducting them far longer than the Muggle world has, and they have a really good success rate,� Hermione suggested over the rim of her cup of tea to Harry. Harry had come over to visit her and the children. She thought it was one of the world�s greatest unjustices, that Harry Potter, her best friend, who had so much to offer a child, was having such a hard time even getting a chance to help raise children that desperately needed it, and now was in fact banned from helping. She wished she could have offered her womb, except she had been lucky to have been able to have had her twins, due to all the damage she had received during the war. They were her miracle babies, and the only ones she would be able to have. Her uterus had to be removed in an emergency hysterectomy a month after the twins were born because she hadn�t healed properly. Harry had been with her the whole time along with Ron, of course.

�I�ve thought about, Hermione. But I don�t know. How am I supposed to expect some stranger to just give me her baby at the end of nine months of carrying it inside of her,� Harry said after a while. He had been watching the twins playing outside in the yard with Ron, but now turned away and faced Hermione, �But it seems like it�s the only option left for me,� he sighed, and huffed out his next breathe, �I can�t believe the Ministry. After every fucking thing I�ve done for them. The whole world! They can�t allow me any leeway with anything.� He walked over to the sofa where Hermione was sitting, and sat on the floor in front of her, laying his head on her lap, allowing her to thread her fingers through his rebellious black hair, �I just wish I could have my own baby to hold, my own child to play around in the mud with like Ron does with the twins.�

Hermione gave a yelp, �Oh, he did, did he? Just wait until I get my hands on him,� she said jokingly. Suddenly, Harry felt a sharp tug on his head as she pulled out some of his hair.

�Oww! Hermione! Are you trying to snatch me bald?� He asked outraged, �There�s no need to kill the messenger!�

�No, silly! Look, you�ve got gray hair,� Hermione said, showing him the three gray hairs she had pulled out.

�Well, don�t pull all them out or I will be bald. I�ve been dying my hair for months now. I kept finding them, after he mentioned seeing one, so I didn�t want him to see more,� Harry quickly put his joking matter aside, �Hermione, I think I will try the surrogacy thing. The Ministry can�t take away my own child, now can they?�

�How the hell did something like this happen?� Harry roared, �You people assured me every single time that this woman would be different. But noooo, Every single damn time, I�m left with no baby to speak of, and owing child support for a child I will never even see. You assured me that these woman would allow me to keep a baby produced by in vitro fertilization, and that they had all signed legal documents to that effect, yet all three have now decided that they would like to keep the babies for themselves as soon as they find out who I am. And to make it even worse, they say that since I�m the father, I need to pay child support, while they get sole custody with their new husbands. And of course the Wizengamot insists that a home with a mother and a father is a better environment to raise a child in and so awards it to them. And now you want me to try again. I am tired of having my heart broken like this. I get my hopes up, just to have them stab me through the heart, again and again. I don�t know how you can call yourselves my lawyers, when you don�t protect me from shit! My new lawyer will contact you within a week to obtain all the documents regarding my legal affairs.�

A week later, after taking care of all his lose ends, he was headed home with his new lawyer, who just happened to be his lover of 13 years. Instead of paying monthly child support he had set up bank funds that contained the amounts the courts had assessed he would owe in child support for the next 18 years, and the children�s educations were already all paid for. At this point, he knew all the women had wanted was more money from him and the status of having had Harry Potter�s child, and hadn�t really done it for any true love for the children. Days like these made him just want to end it all, then he would look at his love and his day would be better, but he had an ache in his heart that only a child could fill. But it seemed that that dream had sailed beyond the sunset, and it seemed as if he would never see it again.
