Chapter 4
A/N: Jubilation! I’m back and by now, I actually think that I can be done with this little one . . . before Christmas! ^_^ Now all explanations are coming, read attentive and you know what’s happening in the next chapter . . . haha . . . yeah I’m that transparent, sadly. ^-^’
Have fun everybody. *waving with her hands*
Draco was home again. He loved it here but this time he was a bit nervous because he had to talk to Blaise, Pansy and Hermione. All of them in one room and everyone lecturing him. He hoped he would get away with only one black eye.
Carefully he knocked at the door of his boss’ door and listened silently for the command to enter. He ducked his head when he heard the harsh tone of Blaise’s voice and opened the door softly.
“You idiot!”
“You did it again!”
“Just tell me, why don’t you use your fucking brain?”
‘Shit!’ was all he could think in that moment and crept at the seat in front of the desk. Now the room was silent and his friends were watching him the whole time.
“What are you waiting for? Talk already!” Blaise hissed angrily and almost punched his desk with his fist.
“I’m sorry.” Draco sighed but did not look up a bit to let them see that he felt hurt by their behaviour or that he was annoyed with it too.
“That’s not enough Draco. I want an explanation. Ariel is on my tail and demanding your exclusion. He wants you to work to what you are born.” his boss argued with a still furious glitter in his dark eyes.
“No! Oh please. Don’t let them change my position, please don’t. You know that I’m not born to some kind of assignment.” the blonde begged and was close to slide to his knees. “I’m working class, you know that. Please, don’t let them . . . Please!”
“No, you’re not and you know that! You’re one of the oldest nobility.” his dark friend now sighed and rubbed his eyes tiredly. “Come on Draco; tell me why you had to do it again?”
“I couldn’t help it! You know I can’t because of that first kiss.” the blonde hissed furiously and felt very pathetic at once.
“I already got punished for that, so don’t even think of it!” he whispered dangerously and pointed his finger directly at Blaise’s face.
“I didn’t! Really, I didn’t.” his friend defended himself with raised arms and shook his head. “I just wanted to make sure that you don’t forget this punishment. I can call it over you again.” the dark man smirked.
“Be honest with us Draco. Tell us.” Hermione emphasized with her arms crossed.
He sighed exhausted and fell back against the back of his chair. “I can’t, you know that too.”
“That’s right. So let me explain it for you.” she replied coldly but continued in a relevant tone in her voice.
“Since that first time you kissed him you’re bonded to him. That means that you’re drawn towards him every time. You had known that we hadn’t been allowed to bond with them and still aren’t.
Your job is it to guide them, to keep them out of to big trouble. You can befriend them but that’s the end of it. They are meant to forget us every time we’re going home for another year.”
“By the way . . . you . . .” Blaise drawled and looked at his fingernails.
“Irrelevant!” Hermione hissed shortly before she continued her lecturing.
“With your kiss you promised him to always take care of him and with your punishment you failed him! They took him out of your duty for almost 31 years and you know that this was punishment for both of you! He wasn’t allowed to fall in love with someone else and you went almost crazy with your yearning for him.”
The young woman finally ended and silence touched the room in a deathly grip. Draco had noticed how harsh her voice had gotten from time to time and pictured his whole penalty again. They were bad memories and he trembled with pain and pressed his eyes together. Everyone noticed his distress and Hermione earned several dark looks from her friends. Of course, she felt guilty for her hard words but what else could she do to keep him safe?
Blaise pondered through his mind to find a solution but suddenly, he felt empty. Pansy sighed softly and shook her head.
“I don’t want you to get punished like that again. Therefore, I think we should do the best of it. We all know that he didn’t it on purpose. Isn’t there a way to keep this silent from Ariel and the others?” she asked gently and put her hand on her friends shoulder to soothe him down a bit.
“Mhm.” Blaise mumbled and rubbed his chin silently. “Maybe there is but I have to do some research for it. I call you up when I find what we need to.
Leave!” he then demanded, his mind already working on his task.
“We need to do that too.” Hermione whispered in Pansy’s ear and stepped at Draco’s other side.
The blonde still shook a bit on his feet but he walked out of the room with his head held high.
“What do you mean?” the other woman asked confused and looked at her but the brunette just lifted a brow.
When they were back in there own office, Draco flopped into his chair and sighed frustrated. His friends looked at him but kept their silence, watching him closely.
“You should have seen him . . . when . . . I know I wasn’t even allowed to go down to earth then but . . . he was so heartbroken.” he said with a small crack in his voice. When he remembered those images, he always felt close to tears.
“I hadn’t been allowed to see him but those people, his relations, hadn’t been allowed to do such cruel thing to him, which they did! Back then, he ran into the rain and got soaked in just a minute. But, it seemed like he hadn’t noticed with all the pain in his heart.
Back then, he had cried so hard and that had pained me too. I know I still was a trainee but . . . you see I just couldn’t leave him alone when he was . . . “Draco whispered silently and rubbed his eyes. He was so tired all of the sudden.
“Of course I had to sneak down to comfort him. You would have too. After all he already was my charge and wasn’t it my duty to guide him, to make him happy?
First, he had been a bit frightened but then he had trusted me and had embraced me tightly. All the time he had cried and mumbled that he was so alone, that no one loved him or cared about him, and . . . it broke my heart!
I just had to huge him, to comfort him. Then, when his tiny voice had been hoarse from all his crying he had whispered things to me I knew I wouldn’t forget. He had told me everything what had happened to him, he told me that I was his first friend, that everyone else was just pushing him around and . . .
Maybe I was caught up in that moment but it had felt right! It had felt right to promise him that I always would take care of him, that I wouldn’t leave him alone.” he ended his explanation and shook his head with tears in his eyes when he heard Hermione’s words in his mind again.
‘You have failed him!’
Pansy was silent and tried her best to keep her tears in check while Hermione’s breathing had increased slightly. They had not known that, how should they when Draco had not told anyone. He had not even told the trial he had to answer after his “adventure” down on earth when he hadn’t been allowed to visit his charge in his young age.
“We really need to find a solution to that problem.” she started silently and tried to think clearly. “He will miss you again, badly when we need to go home for another year. There must be a way to stop his pain maybe even yours.”
“I think it would be best we go back down right now and . . . I don’t know . . . think about everything.” Pansy mumbled softly with still teary eyes.
“I think . . . Harry had told me that he never had a Christmas full of joy and happiness and love, like it should be and I wish him at least one of these fests to celebrate! That is my task for this year, what ever it takes! But still . . . I think I need your help.” the blonde entrusted to his friends which looked wide-eyed at him.
“Of course! You don’t need to ask! What are you planning?” Hermione all but screamed and her friends jerked at her loud voice.
“Owe! Hermione!” the black-haired woman cried out and rubbed her ears slightly but still nodded in agreement.
“I really don’t know. I hoped you two would have some good ideas.” the blonde grinned sheepishly and ducked his head. Amused he noticed how Hermione went from anguish to excited to thoughtful and shook his head in happiness. He was thankful to have such friends.
“Oh, I know. In Ryan’s home, I noticed some little . . . issues with a lot of Christmas stuff in it. I think we should risk a look into it.
. . .
And maybe decorate Harry’s house a bit so he would come into Christmas mood. And . . . I don’t know!” the brown-haired woman started out excited but stopped into huffing annoyed at herself.
***
“I found it!” Hermione cried and popped back into Harry’s house, while the emerald-eyed man was still at work. The three of them flopped down to the ground and browsed through that tiny magazine with many ideas for a Christmas decorations.
“Oh, look at this! Isn’t it sweet?” Pansy suddenly cried out and snapped her fingers. Blinking surprised her friends look at the scene of some angels cuddling with animals, which suddenly had appeared in front of them.
“Uhm.” Draco mumbled softly but took a closer look at the small things at his feet.
They were all children like with white wings on their backs. One had blonde hair and dark eyes and hand feeding a foal. Another one was smaller than the first in a green dress, had tiny blonde pigtails, and was cuddling a sleeping brown bear.
“Ah . . . not bad . . . I think.” Hermione stuttered out and looked at Draco who just shrugged and went back to the magazine.
“I think this one here’s better.” she mentioned and snapping her own fingers softly. A little sweet looking city scene appeared in front of them and pushed the angels away. Candles were burning in different houses and children were playing outside in the snow. On the marketplace was a little Christmas fair with small stalls and people trying to sell their things.
“Yeah that’s sweet too.” the blonde agreed and went back to the magazine again. Pansy hummed silently and pouted trying not to look into that thing that Hermione had stolen from Ryan’s house.
“But this one is definitely the best.” Draco argued and snapped his fingers.
“Oh!” his two friends sighed and smiled at the little sweet looking angel bakery at their feet.
Some of them had a baker hat on their heads (^-^) and forming tiny cookies or rolling out the needed pastry or holding a small sheet metal with finished cookies on it.
Others were trying to build a sweet gingerbread house with all the nuts and sugar on it. Another one should have swept all the flour that was lying and flying around but fell asleep over its task. Another one was sitting next to the great oven and trying to get some chocolate out of a bowl.
“Oh.” the two women sighed again and finally smiled softly with shining eyes.
“I think I’ll keep it.” Draco laughed but went back to the magazine nevertheless.
After quite some time Harry’s whole living room was full of little things, they had transfigured into it to see what it would looked like in front of them not just on the papers.
Sighing Hermione looked around and almost squeaked in shock. They had transfigured Harry’s living room into a messy . . . hellhole.
“Uhm . . . Draco. Look, you don’t need our help anymore. You take everything you want anyhow . . . can we please go. You know, Ryan and Neville are coming home soon and . . .”
The blonde just lifted a brow in puzzlement but nodded in agreement. Why was Hermione so nervous suddenly? He asked himself and felt like he had missed an important thing here.
“Thanks . . . uhm. See you!” she cried out and pushed Pansy out of the house so fast the other woman almost fell on her pretty nose. Confused Draco snorted and shook his head slightly. But, when he looked around the room he knew. She did not want to do the cleaning!
Sighing he stood up and tapped his fingers against his chin, deep in thoughts. Suddenly his eyes lit up and he began snapping his fingers rapidly and motioning towards tables and cupboards.
Then he went straight into the kitchen and did what needed to be done, of course, not on his own.
Everywhere things were flying around, trying to find their places they had to go to, trying to arrange themselves until their master was satisfied with them. The kitchen things were whirling around too and looked like they were doing some kind of ballet while they cooked and baked and made chocolate and . . .
Satisfied with his work Draco smiled brightly into the room and felt a small tingle as if the room was happy because of his smile. Astonished and maybe just a bit crazy he furrowed his brows while he walked through the house with sceptical eyes.
Now everything was decorated as it should but the colours of the walls and the furniture didn’t go well with those ensembles he had chosen anymore. His silver eyes darkened slightly, deep in thoughts again and he tapped his fingers against his chin.
Softly he clicked his tongue and snapped his fingers and suddenly different colours alternated on Harry’s walls until Draco choose Bordeaux red for the living room, a cream coloured wall for the bedroom, a light blue for the bathroom tiles and a dark green for the kitchen, which suddenly appeared homey and comfortable. He had chosen a deep brown for the furniture and soft beige for Harry’s couch and bed.
As if planned Draco heard the front door open and Harry stepping into his new home. A bright smile lit up on his face and he rushed out and right into Harry’s arms who just laughed softly at his excitement.
“I like this kind of hello.” he mumbled and bent down slowly to kiss the blonde’s lips softly before toeing off his shoes and marching into his kitchen to make himself a coffee.
Suddenly he stopped shocked almost to his own rotten death. Confused he asked himself if he was in the right house. But Draco was there so he must be. Or Draco was in the wrong house too and they were both . . . in the wrong house. Shortly his musing stopped again and he turned very slowly with a mad glitter in his eyes. “What happened here while I was at work?” he asked softly his voice even deeper now.
Draco’s smile brightened up a little bit more and he petted Harry’s arm absently. “You like it?”
“That’s not the question! What happened here?”
Confused the blonde blinked and looked closely at the raven-haired man. “You don’t like it? You see . . . I was here the whole day and all those boring colours were simply put wrong and I asked some company to . . . well paint it new.” the blonde mumbled now just a tiny bit nervous.
Harry believed not even one word but kept his silence after all he wanted to know what had happened to his house. He looked around again, wandered through the rooms, and noticed that everywhere were some kitschy looking things and bowls with chocolate pieces and cookies. His house was totally new arranged. But the biggest and maybe most startling thing was the big Christmas tree in one of the corners of his living room.
Hadn’t he already told Draco that he hated Christmas? Right now, he wasn’t sure while his eyed almost fell out of his head.
“You said it yourself! You never had one of these bright and happy Christmas fests and I’m going to make you one!” Draco cried out with the sudden urge to defend himself.
“You see, it wasn’t that difficult. I just went through many magazines, borrowed from Ryan, and I ordered the things I thought would suit your house and they brought them here but then your colours didn’t match anymore and I had to ask this company to paint it and . . .”
Overwhelmed, confused and a tiny bit angry he looked at Draco while the blonde stuttered out things he couldn’t really hear.
“Well like I said that wasn’t really difficult. Just one thing needed my hand badly.”
Blinking the blonde stopped his rambling and looked at Harry again.
“What was this difficult thing?” Harry finally asked again, his brain still a bit slow. Draco’s smile was back and he tugged Harry towards his coffee table. “See this sweet bakery? They brought some artificial snow with them; total rubbish if you were asking me but this stupid stuff just would not stay on the damn table every time I opened the window. However, I found a solution to it too. You’re lucky I’m such a great improviser!”
And all Harry could do was nod, suddenly so confused he felt a bad head ach coming. “And your solution was?”
“I glued it on the table.” Draco beamed and waved with his arms.
“Do we have one of these oxygen tents you had asked for?” the emerald-eyed man almost pleaded and sank into his strange new couch.
“Huh? Of course not. You know that was just . . . a joke . . . or something like that.” Draco announced suddenly confused himself but maybe he should consider getting one of these tents nevertheless.
Harry just hummed shortly and took a deep breath.
“Okay now, Draco come here and sit next to me.” he demanded softly and petted the place beside him shortly. When his very own blonde beauty was next to him, he continued and tried his best to control his breathing.
“Why don’t you tell me the truth?”
“How do you know that I’m lying?” the blonde asked back offended.
“It never has happened before that you could order some stuff and they bring it around the same day and then just because the ordered stuff didn’t suit, renovate the whole house . . . in one fucking day! The earliest they can send your order to you is the next day because, you know humans aren’t that fast!” the raven-haired man explained softly as if he was talking to a little child.
“They could! You’re just sitting in their first success!” Draco argued angrily to not show his fear.
“The truth Draco.” Harry said again in a soft mumble.
Now the blonde was almost crying. Of cause, he wanted to tell him everything but that was not allowed. He had not forgotten Hermione’s harsh words from this morning. They could do it to him . . . to them again. But, that he would prevent!
Maybe he should tell him and they would expel him from his duties . . . maybe even from his place at home and Harry would get a new snowflake but they would still be together then
Then he would not be able to see Hermione, Pansy and Blaise again and that was punishment too. Because, how was he supposed to make Harry happy when he was not himself? He knew enough about love to know that you must be happy to make your beloved ones happy too. But wasn’t Blaise already searching for something to help him out, Hermione, and Pansy too? Didn’t that mean that they would see each other again then?
Maybe he would not be allowed back home but the three of them could still come down with the first snow.
The blonde exhaled sharply and looked at his feet. Should he take the risks and tell Harry what they both longed for to clear? Should he or should he not? With teary quizzical eyes, he looked up and noticed Harry’s concerned expression on his face. He could see that Harry wanted to know what was wrong with him, why it was so hard for him to tell the truth.
Should he . . .?
“It’s difficult to explain . . . and it will get me into more deep trouble but I think . . .” Draco muttered softly but then shook his head and took a deep breath to clear his mind a bit. “We met the first time long ago but I bet you forgot about it, didn’t you?”
Harry knitted his brows and searched through his memories . . . but of course, he could not find anything that had something to do with Draco.
“That isn’t unusual you know. Actually, it is kind of a rule where I come from that your charge would not remember you since . . .
Maybe you remember a very rainy day when you were 5 years old and again had some trouble with your family.” the blonde continued softly without looking at Harry once. He missed the puzzled expressions and the hard glare at the floor with the remembrance of his . . . family.
“There were a lot of those days! You must be a bit more specific!” Harry snarled angrily with a hard glare in his eyes.
Draco whirled around when he noticed the other mans harsh tone, he watched him for only a few seconds. Softly he cradled Harry’s face in his hands and got on his knees in front of the raven-haired man.
“Don’t be angry with me . . . I promised you back there to always be there for you, to never leave you. Don’t you remember?
I wasn’t allowed to come down to earth back then but you were so sad, alone and heartbroken. I just needed to comfort you.
Well. In this specific night, you ran out of their house into the storm that was raging. You cried so hard and . . . I saw you, of course you were already my charge even when I was only a little kid myself. I come down to you and we talked for a while, both of us soaked and clammy. But you wouldn’t stop crying and suddenly you were hugging me and babbling that I was your only friend.
Then I did something very stupid. I kissed you, like this . . . “ the blonde mumbled gently and touched their noses together to finally press his lips tenderly against Harry’s, seeing the unfocused look in his dark emerald eyes.
“Don’t you remember? This kiss had been stupid because I broke an important rule and bonded with you. I was a little kid myself and bonded with you, something not even the oldest of us did once in there life. I told you that you just needed to watch the rain to remember me. You did . . . and forgot me?
I told you, you only needed to talk to the rain and I would hear you. You did . . . I heard you clearly every time . . . and you forgot me?”
Softly and deeply moved by the sadness in Draco’s voice he tugged the blonde towards him, cradling him in his lap, and pressing his nose into his neck, trying to soothe him, to comfort him. He felt bad now for forgetting even when he still couldn’t remember.
“It’s okay now . . . Everything will be alright . . . don’t forget me again.” the blonde mumbled softly embracing Harry tightly, fearing that they would take him away from him again.
“Like I said . . . I broke a rule and I got punished for that . . . we both got punished. They arrested me when I came home again and . . . they choose someone else to watch over you.
Of course they did not notice that with me as your snowflake you suffered even more. There they totally forget that we . . . that I had bonded you to me.
It was only for the best that they made the change . . . nonsense!” Draco mumbled angrily and pressed closer to Harry who was caressing him tenderly the whole time. Both were silent now, both deep in their own thoughts.
“I still don’t know who you are . . . what you are?” the raven-haired man finally broke the sad silence between them a bit unsure of things right now. The only thing he knew for sure was that he wanted to have the blonde close to him . . . forever.
“I’m . . .” Draco started but stopped suddenly to shake his head slightly.
“I’m one of the fallen snow.” he then whispered silently and looked deeply into Harry’s eyes.
“With the first snow of the year we’re allowed to come down to earth to meet our charges, to guide them on their right way again, to make their Christmas fests loving, secure and unforgettable.”
“I don’t understand . . . most of what you’re talking about.” Harry mentioned with a confused look on his face and Draco smiled softly down on him.
“But after Christmas . . . at New Years we have to go and no one would remember us until we meet again. Then it would be as if a friend visited again. The charges would remember, talk with their snowflake, and have a great time. Then we leave again and you forget again.”
“We though, were special. No other snowflake has ever broken that rule and bonded with their charge . . . but I did. Therefore, you should not have forgotten me and I think it was because of your pain that come with my punishment. We yearned for each other the whole time because of that tiny bond but I think it was too much for you and your mind pushed me into the far end to ease your anguish. My mind isn’t able to do that, another part of my punishment.” Draco whispered so softly that Harry almost missed his words.
Draco shook softly in his arms and his protectiveness hit him full force again. He had known since he saw him . . . for the second time in his life when he should believe Draco. He had known since then that he would do everything to make him happy, to keep him save and close to him. What ever it takes!
“So . . . that means you can do magic and all that stuff?” he breathed into Draco’s neck and smiled gently when he felt the blonde relax and giggle silently.
“That I can, for sure.” he snickered quietly, snapped his fingers shortly and motioned towards Harry’s coffee table.
Directly beside the lovely bakery appeared two mugs of hot chocolate with a little cinnamon in it.
“Oh.” was all Harry could say then when he watched the mugs with wide, unbelieving eyes.
“More?” Draco asked gently while he stroked through Harry raven locks. Commanding he snapped his fingers again and two cinnamon-spirals appeared in front of the mugs.
Harry’s eyes went even wider if that was possible and he looked from Draco to the little pieces of cake and back to Draco.
“Still not enough?” the blonde snickered again, it really was funny to see Harry like that.
“Don’t pass out on me now!” he laughed amused and snapped his fingers a third time, then laid his hand on his heart and closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, a small black and white cat sat to their feet and looked at them lovingly. He heard Harry’s gasp of shock and felt him go stiff.
“Say hello to . . . mhm what should we name him? . . . Prosper! Yeah . . . say hello to Prosper, Harry.” the blonde laughed at the shocked man who still held him close.
“Oh my god . . . “ Harry stuttered and shook his head but when he looked back to his feet the tomcat still sat their watching him with a knowing look in his eyes. “ Oh my god . . .”
Draco now watched him concerned and caressed his face silently.
Maybe he had rushed things a bit and . . . maybe he should have kept his silence . . . maybe he should leave now . . .
“Why didn’t you told me before?” he suddenly heard and looked surprised at the raven-haired man.
“Yeah . . . as if you would have believed me if I had actually told you that I was a snowflake.” Draco snorted and shook his head. This man really was incredible!
Unexpectedly he felt himself pushed onto the sofa and Harry on top of him.
How had he done this . . . and so fast?
However, his thoughts vanished when he felt the emerald-eyed man raining kisses down on him, when he felt him cares him tenderly but possessively.
He mumbled incoherent things and arched his back when he felt Harry pressing down on him.
He tried his best, he really did, but . . . it was so hard with Harry doing those things to him and . . .
“Stop!” Draco then cried out and closed his eyes while Harry looked at him in puzzlement.
“Our chocolate would be cool when we’re done, you know.”
All Harry could do was groaning in disbelief?
“And I’m still sleeping in your guest room!”
“Welcome into our family Prosper.” Harry cursed with mirthful eyes.
