Chapter 4
Dinner
I just wanted to say thank you for reading and reviewing.
Sorry it’s takes so long to put up chapters, but I type the chapters as they
come to me. Also, I’ve been sick. Keep the reviews coming it’s like my fuel.
Hermione got out of the fireplace at the Malfoy’s; well at
least she thought it was the place.
Hermione looked around the room, it was very large. It had
very dark gray granite tiles, dark rosewood trimming, and the walls were a dark
emerald, and the furniture was black leather. Obviously this room took after
the Slytherin common room at Hogwarts. At that moment she saw a rather tall
blonde haired figure walk into the room.
“Ah, Miss Granger.” It was Lucius that had come to meet his
son’s guest. “I truly wasn’t expecting you to be Draco’s date tonight.” He said
with a smirk.
Hermione blushed, “It’s not a date.” She cracked.
“I’m sure it’s not a date.” Lucius said with a smirk as he
came to offer Hermione his arm. “Draco
is upstairs getting ready at the moment, I swear that boy takes longer to get
ready than any woman I know, so I will escort you to the garden.”
“You have dinner in the garden?” Hermione said looking surprised at how civil
Lucius was being. Truthfully she was a
little uncomfortable with this new Lucius because the last time she had come
face to face with him they had been dueling.
“Only when we are here in such a warm setting, Narcissa
hates to be out in the cold. You look
surprised about something; care to share what is on your mind?” Lucius asked.
They had left the study that Hermione had arrived in, and
walked down the hall, and out a pair of French sliding doors.
“Well the last time I saw you we had our wands drawn on each
other and you were supporting Voldemort.
Now you seem so civil, even nice to me, and I was just wondering what
brought on the change. Oh my
goodness...” They had entered the garden and it was a breathtaking sight.
There were roses of every color scattered among bunches of
tulips and chrysanthemums. She could
hear a water fountain in the distance, and there were small trees scattered
among the flowers and a path wound its way around creating a fairytale scene.
“Beautiful isn’t it?
Allow me to take you through the garden and I will answer your
question.” Lucius began to lead Hermione
through the garden.
“When I was imprisoned the first time during the war I could
have cared less. I was in and out within
a few weeks, and I went back to my master with no hard feelings even though he
had left us in the ministry. It was a
few weeks before my second imprisonment that Voldemort did something that
crossed the line of no return in my mind, he threatened my family. While I had no problem torturing muggles and
other such lowly people, no offense,” he said giving Hermione a smirk when she
snorted at his statement, “I would not allow my family to be hurt.”
Hermione looked a Lucius as though he had said something incredibly
surprising. “What Miss Granger? Do you
think that I do not care for my family?
I may be distant with my wife, but I have always been faithful, and I
give her everything her heart desires. I
may be hard on my son, but he makes me proud of him no matter what. Even when Mr. Potter beats him at Quidditch,
or you best him in grades,” Hermione blushed, “he knows I only want him to do
the best he can. Anyway, the Dark Lord
decided that I needed a little push in the direction he wanted me to go in, and
told me if I failed him he would give my wife to which ever men wanted her, and
that my son would be tortured. Well he
pushed me alright, right to the ministry.
I told them that if I helped them bring down the Dark Lord, they had to
protect my family, and excuse me of any crimes I may be accused of.”
Hermione was silent as they stopped in front of a small
water fountain. She had not realized
that Lucius Malfoy cared about anything.
She had always believed he was a cheating, mistress having, all around
bastard that didn’t pay any mind to his son and wife and only stayed in his
relationship so his social status would remain in tact.
“So nice of you to join us Draco, you took so long getting
ready I was about to send in a house elf to see if you were alright. You know
we can’t have you going blind, picking you eyebrows and such.” Lucius grinned
as he saw his son walking into the garden from the other side of the mansion.
Hermione chuckled. Draco had changed from his tank-top and
trunks, to baggy black jeans and a button down shirt. “So prince-cess,
you finally decided to join us.” She couldn’t resist taking that shot at him.
Draco glared at Hermione. “Watch yourself Granger. Don’t
make me do something that you might regret.” He said, giving Hermione a
mischievous smile.
Draco knew he took a long time in the bathroom, how else
would he look so damn, what’s the word, HOT.
Hermione could learn a thing or two from me, he
thought.
Draco was shaken from his narcissistic thoughts when he
realized that his father and Granger were heading to the table where his mother
was sitting.
“Evening darling, how are we this evening?” Lucius had
directed his comment to the fashionable woman that was pacing around a table.
“Narcissa, this is Hermione Granger. Miss Granger, this is my lovely wife.”
“Hello Miss Granger. You must be Draco’s date tonight.”
Narcissa stated.
Hermione was getting really pissed that everyone thought
that she and Draco were on a date.
“Mother, don’t speak of such obscenities in my presence,
please!” Draco scoffed.
Hermione’s blood started to boil, “Yes, please, I would
never think about dating your son. No offense.” She said glaring at Draco, who
in turn was glaring at her.
Lucius had ignored the comment that the little witch had
said. Draco really needed to learn how to hold his tongue at times. So if
taking a few verbal blows like that would help, then so be it. He had moved
toward the table, gesturing that the two stop bickering, and join him and his
wife.
“Come children, we should eat before our food gets
cold.” Lucius said, irritation playing on his voice.
They were seated at a small square table. Hermione was
wondering if she could get a good clean kick at Draco’s shins if he said
anything that she thought might require it.
“So, what have you done today Draco?” Lucius inquired. “Have
you started on that list at all?” Lucius had a keen eye on his son.
“Well, kind of, yes-ish, not really, no.” Draco said
stuffing his face, hoping that his father wouldn’t ask him any more about that
infernal list. “That’s sort of the reason Granger is here. I don’t know any
bloody muggle-born witches, and apparently, she can help me out.” He
said pointing to Hermione. “Besides, she needs help too.”
“Wow Draco, what a way to break the news.” Hermione said
sarcastically. “You’re such a dumb ass.”
Lucius had almost choked on the half chewed piece of meat
that was in his mouth. He had never
heard anyone speak to his son that way, he found it amusing. Many of the young women who hung around Draco
were simpering little twits who agreed with everything that came out of Draco’s
mouth. He thought that Draco had met his
match in this one.
“No need to get your wand in a twist Granger, I was merely
saying that the only reason we were in each others company was to help each
other out since we have so little time until we get put on the stupid list.”
Draco retorted, trying to excuse his comment.
“Firstly Malfoy, nothing you could do would put my
wand in a twist, and secondly I must say that I agree with you. The only reason we are together right now is
to avoid being put on that list, and ending up with someone like you!” Hermione said right before she took a bite of
her pasta. “Mrs. Malfoy this food is
excellent. I haven’t had Chicken Alfredo
this good in a while.”
“Thank you dear,” Narcissa said with a smile. She reached over and patted Hermione’s hand,
“Please call me Narcissa. I expect I
will be seeing you till the end of summer.”
Hermione looked a little puzzled and frowned “I don’t think
it will take that long.”
Narcissa laughed, “Then you don’t know my son. He can be very picky. Have you heard of his list of requirements of
the woman he wants to marry?” Hermione shook her head deeply interested. She would guess Draco wanted big boobs,
clueless and blonde.
Draco cleared his throat, “Not now mother…”
“Nonsense Draco, I think Ms. Granger should know what she is
looking for when she recommends young ladies for your list. She must be shorter than him but not too
short. He likes brown eyes, and dark
colored hair because he doesn’t want people to think that he and his lady could
be related. She must be intelligent, and
be able to hold a conversation that does not only involve shopping and
gossip. She must like to read, and want
to go further in her studies or at least allow him to continue with his
learning. She also has to be able to
entertain people in both high society and a simple gathering of friends. She
can not be too judgmental, but loyal.” Narcissa stopped to take a sip of wine
and said. “I mean I could continue, but the list would take me to the early
hours of the morning to finish. You seem to have a general idea of what my son
wants now.”
Hermione was sitting there mouth agate, listening to
Narcissa ramble on about her sons list. It was almost as if she had memorized
it. “Well, I must say your son is a needy little bugger.” Hermione was smiling
at Lucius, who was silently eating his Chicken Alfredo, and watching the three
in front of him like a day-time soap.
“You know Draco. This little witch is right.” Lucius pointed
out.
Draco whipped his head around to Lucius, “I’m aware of that Father,
I won’t settle for anything less than I deserve. The bloody ministry has made
it so that number one on my list will never be met, SHE MUST BE PUREBLOOD.”
Draco started shoving forkfuls of food into his mouth.
Hermione had enough. She found this the right opportunity to
kick him. “Merlin’s fucking balls… what in the bloody hell was that for?” Draco
inquired rubbing his leg.
“What?” Hermione said as if she was the most innocent one in
the room. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Lucius snickered into his food and Narcissa looked at her
son in shock, “Draco don’t use such language in front
of Ms. Granger. Don’t you know how to
act around a lady?”
Draco had had enough, “Well mother, father Granger and I are
going to get started on those lists.
Let’s go.” He said getting up from the table and walking back toward the
house.
“Thank Narcissa for dinner it was wonderful.” Hermione said
getting up from the table.
“See you later dear,” said Narcissa waving to Hermione as
she walked away. She looked up at her
husband, “Don’t they make a cute couple?”
Lucius choked on his wine, “They would if they weren’t
completely wrong for each other. They
would kill each other if they were stuck together forever. I doubt they will get along long enough to
help each other out.” He looked closer
at his wife, “Now do you start playing match maker dear. I will bet you 1,000 galleons that they don’t
make it through the end of the summer.”
Narcissa smiled, “I don’t want you money in a bet I have
access to your accounts when ever I want them.
But I will accept your bet on the condition that when we go bye the
wedding dress for Ms. Granger, I mean whom ever your son decides to
marry you will accompany us.”
“Deal!” Said Lucius and kissed his wife’s cheek as they rose
from the table and began their evening stroll through the garden.
