Hermione sat in the limousine and chuckled. Molly eyed her a little suspiciously “He didn’t ask about the prophet. You notice how Draco pissed him off? Totally sidetracked him.”
Fred and George finally found their voices “Bloody oath Granger! Nothing to do with the fact that the Gryffindor Princess just blew his world apart”…Harry laughed “Helloooo Mudblood here…” Molly gave him a scathing look but the younger ones couldn’t help but laugh.
Hermione seemed to get a little serious “Draco’s pretty strong though, but what a hothead. We should have some fun this year.” Molly shook her head “do tell Granger” the twins asked in unison “Well the first order of business. I oughts to get me self some of that there polyjuice potion and…” she looked at Harry and slowly smiled.
Her Gryffindor housemates had seen that look before, and they waited with baited breath. She slowly reached into the pocket of the limousine’s door panel, producing a piece of parchment. ‘ with this…” The twins gave a whoop “The Marauders Map. Brilliant!” Hermione beamed “Yep, we should have some fun this year”
She looked at Molly who was obviously contemplating something deeply “What’s wrong? …oh the mudblood thing” Molly frowned “It’s alright Molly I know technically I’m not…” Fred and George looked at her “You mean you’re…” and they stopped.
Hermione smiled as she noted Molly’s glare towards her two sons. Bloodlines were not an acceptable topic of conversation, for any off her offspring. “No I’m not a ‘pureblood’” Hermione emphasised the word “ but I believe my brother and I were the beginnings of a magical family, just as Colin and his brother were.”
Harry’s eyes lit up “Of course. I mean one magical child is unique but two…?” Harry faltered and Hermione finished for him. He was grappling with a lot. She gave a mental shrug. Then again, when wasn’t he? “ Two Harry constitute a new bloodline, so in reality I’m the matriarch, so the Order could rightfully select…”
Her demeanour darkened, but she merely shook her head and repeated her earlier quote “One battle at a time” Just then the limousine pulled into the estate. Molly smiled “I think Narcissa’s right…”Hermione giggled “You know Molly I never thought I hear those words from your lips.”
After Professor McGonagall left, Lucius and Narcissa looked at each other for a few moments. They had always been in sync and now, more than ever, it showed. After about five minutes Narcissa spoke “So you will take care of our son” Lucius nodded “I wonder about that boy sometimes. He has no control around her” Narcissa understood “he could be the death of us”
A slight frown formed on Lucius’ features. One could hardly see it but it was there. “If she didn’t bear the stain of her blood” Narcissa put up her hand “There’s something about the exception of having two or more children” Lucius straightened up his posture. He was even more attentive, than usual; to his wife “One of Blaise’s Aunts had a study from St. Mungos.”
Lucius’ mind was ticking over and Narcissa felt herself drawn to him. She went around to his side of the desk and he stood. They embraced holding each other with a reverence that some never experience. Lucius savoured this. He had only just begun to realise how much he had nearly lost.
“I’ll summon the boy” Narcissa kissed him on the neck “ and I’ll find out” Lucius watched his beloved floo and made his way to the Quidditch pitch. If he knew the boy he’d be there, and the walk would do him good.
The walk had, indeed, allowed Lucius time to think. He really didn’t know the boy. In fact these last few years Lucius had allowed Riddle to take the reins. He had to concede that Draco had shown himself to be stoic in every other way, and with every other person, but this girl had always gotten under his skin. Lucius smirked, there were only two emotions that brokered passion on that level.
He gave a slight derisive chuckle, as he didn’t think it was hate, considering Draco had acted to save her. Hate would have allowed him to take pleasure in the opportunity to torture her, and then turn on Riddle. No, definitely not hate. He looked forward to telling the boy. He would deny it with a passion but it would plant a seed. And if the girl’s bloodline troubled him, then perhaps Narcissa could find a solution.
Draco lay on his broom. He had frowned when he realised, with some consideration, that he really couldn’t break Hermione. But he still wanted to get close to her and make her see what? … that he was better. This disturbed him though because she had always been his equal academically, and now it seemed that she was just as powerful. His frowned deepened, perhaps even more so, because she seemed to understand magic.
She was right and he couldn’t deny it. When he had ever wanted something bad enough as a child it had happened. The train with Potter had been the first time he’d used wandless magic as a teenager, but as a child he had used it constantly. He smirked as he thought of Potter out cold in the carriage.
Potter had angered him with his presence. Not because he was there, but he had been thinking how clever he was. Draco had been seething. He had wanted to talk to Blaise and here Potter was thinking he had the better of him.
He closed his eyes as he remembered the pleasure he had in nailing him under his invisibility cloak, and had cursed his lack of forethought. He should have grabbed the thing. He had kicked him hard. At the time he had used his father as an excuse but it was more than that. At that point Potter had a choice, Draco didn’t. He frowned ‘and neither had Granger’. he went to the lake and then to his surprise found himself at Hagrid’s.
The ogre, well half giant, now had a neighbour. The small cottage was maybe 20-25 feet away from Hagrid’s. When he saw Remus exit Draco approached him. The wizard watched young Malfoy with some concern. Draco remembered how good he was as their Dark Arts teacher so he went for honesty “I want to ask you something”
Remus nodded “Doesn’t mean I’ll answer, but have a seat” He indicated a wooden bench, which Draco hadn’t noticed until then. He sat “Was Granger right, did they really know?” Remus understood and sadly nodded “ Afraid so, Hermione spoke the truth up there” Remus frowned “Do you think she lied?”
He watched Draco and noticed his foot slightly moving. Remus put a hand on the young wizard’s shoulder. “I know you read her mind, you tell me?” Draco stood up “She was telling the truth” He looked at Remus “You know I don’t understand why, but part of me wants to get close to her and another….” He shook his head and grabbed his broom. “I can’t believe they didn’t stop it”
Remus nodded “Well, we’ve had a while to digest it, and the Ministry is, to say the least” Remus looked thoughtful “How’d she put it ‘an abomination to magic’” Draco gave a slight chuckle “Did Granger really say that?” Remus stood up and looked Draco straight in the eyes “ She’s been saying that for years” As Draco took off Remus caught his departing comment “Unbelievable”
Hermione smiled as she observed Fred and George walking toward her. They had been deep in conversation for about forty minutes. “Granger! We’ve been thinking” Hermione feigned surprised and touched George on the forehead “What? Why are you two sick? You know you should be careful, using muscles you never have before can cause injuries”
Fred looked at George “You know George I’m even more certain now” Hermione tried to stop grinning but couldn’t. ‘Sorry, couldn’t resist” Fred smiled “Speaking of irresistible, George and I figure there’s no way…” the finished in unison “that one man will be able to satisfy you” George put his arm around her “Look two for one, standing right in front of you…” Hermione’s eyes were laughing “and what about Mary and Ashley?” The twins shook there heads “Oh no Granger you definitely need full undivided attention”
Hermione stood between them putting an arm around each one “Oh shucks guys, awfully generous of you to, you know, take one for the team.” She kissed each one on the cheek “but don’t you worry about me. I can take care of myself…” she whispered suggestively “quite well.” The twins groaned as she gave them a wink and ran to join in the game of ping-pong Fran and Harry were playing.
Molly signalled for her sons to come over and couldn’t hide her pleasure. She had finally come to a decision. “Well I’m going to sort a few things out. Hermione says we can stay here as long as we want. Arthur can keep the burrow. It’s time I sorted him and your siblings out.” She faltered and Fred and George understood. “’Course were coming”
The yelled over to the group at the Ping Pong table “See you guys” Harry looked slightly bewildered. “Family business. Potter. And Granger don’t forget our offer” Hermione groaned and simply said “Two for one” Harry raised his eyebrows. “What about Mary and Ash?” Hermione giggled. “They’re joking Harry” Harry shook his head and looked at Fran “I wouldn’t be so sure” Fran laughed “Don’t panic Harry there were totally into those two and vice versa” She spoke because she had felt it.
Hermione hugged Harry “Those two girls are quite famous. “ she chuckled “Bit hard for them to understand that Fred and George have never watched television” She smiled “That was quick thinking Harry” Harry blushed “It was Fran” Hermione looked at her friend who smiled triumphantly “Well Harry didn’t know what to say.”
Hermione shook her head, surprised at her misapprehension “Of course! You wouldn’t even know what Amish are. See that’s why I surround myself with clever people. Come on let’s have a game of doubles.” She signalled to Daniel who rushed over grateful to have a task. His couldn’t hide his surprise when Hermione simply asked; “You play?”
The four found themselves laughing at their competitiveness. Hermione smashed the ping-pong ball so hard deflated. Then begged innocence when Harry caught it. “It was Harry, look…evidence” Harry shook his head “This is so much fun Hermione.” She feigned a snobby sniffle “Well you would say that, considering you’re winning Potter”
The match lasted a good hour. Harry raised two fists in the air “Victory.” He grabbed Fran and spun her around in a mock victory dance. Hermione rolled her eyes at Daniel who chuckled. “Well now I’ve been well and truly beaten, time to gracefully bow out” Harry and Fran stopped cold and Hermione was quick to reassure them “Only kidding, we’ll get you next time, won’t we Daniel?” The lad smiled “Indeed we will”
Hermione smiled happier than she had been in a long while. “I’m going to clean myself up. Daniel” the lad looked up “I may need the car in an hour or so.” He nodded “So if you need anything to eat then I suggest you ask Mrs… sorry I mean your mum” The lad smiled “Understood”
Hermione relished the feel of the shower over her body and concentrated on the next task she needed to complete. “Now she thought absently. “Where does one find Wizarding lawyers not beholden to the Ministry? Ones with grudges would be better, but they have to be smart. Hmm…” She put her hands in a pose as if saying a prayer and sent the request out to the nether.
She took her time getting dressed and was pleasantly surprised when she looked at her desk in the bedroom to find three names. Now she wondered “Is there any reason why all three wouldn’t work together. One name got scratched. Next to it was one word. Azkaban. She smiled that never stopped her before. She opened a window. Only Fran noticed the little whirlwind taking off.
