Chapter 4

              It was just after lunch and I was sitting outside reading Twilight. One of my friends recommended that I read it and I finally picked up the book. The summery didn’t sound like it would be good but she insisted.

            “Mandy, I didn’t mean to bother you but Severus, Lucius and I were going to go for a walk and wanted to see if you wanted to join us.” Remus asked.

            “I would love to but are you sure the others want a teenager hanging out with them?”

            “I wouldn’t have asked if it would have been a problem.”

            “Let me put my book away and get sneakers on. Where should I meet you?”

            “Come over to our cabin when you’re done.”

I ran into the house told mom where I was going and meet my new friends in record time.

            “Where are we going? Mom says I have to be home for dinner at around 6, 6:30.” I asked as I meet them.

            “Just on the trails around the camp sites we will be back long before then.” Severus responded. The walk started off just casual talk some about me and who often I came down here. About the school I was planning to go to and my childhood. The conversation slowly turned to the books again.

            “What happened in Harry’s third year?” Lucius asked after a comfortable silence.

            “Well it starts off at the Dursley’s like always. It was the night that the Hogwarts letter came with the permission slip to Hogsmeade. Earlier that summer Ron called trying to use the phone which ended in disaster and the Dursley’s were not the happy to begin with. It was Harry’s thirteenth birthday and Aunt Marge came to visit. During her visit she began to speak ill about Harry’s parents and he lost his temper. Marge blew up like a balloon. Harry runs away and accidentally calls the Knight Bus and is dropped off at the Leakey Cauldron where Minister Fudge greats him. The Weasley’s arrive a few weeks later from their trip to Egypt to visit Bill. Harry’s meets up with them and Hermione who has Crookshanks her cat and they board the train. Before hand Mr. Weasley pulls Harry aside and tells him the Sirius Black was after Harry to kill him. They find a compartment that is occupied with the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor R. J. Lupin according to Hermione. Dementors get on to the train and Harry faints. Professor Lupin wake and casts the Patronous Charm and scares them off. Classes start and the first few days Draco breaks his arm by insulting Buckbeak a Hippogriff and in Defence Against the Dark Arts there is lesson on Boggarts and Lupin doesn’t let Harry face the Boggart because he fears that it will be Voldemort.

            “At Halloween Sirius Black whom Harry knows is after him tries to break into the Gryffindor dorms. The students are forced to sleep in the great hall until the castle is searched. There was no record of him being present. Defence Against the Dark Arts is substituted by Professor Snape during the full moon and has the students learn about werewolves. Sir, why did you do that? I thought by that time you two were on good terms am I wrong about that?”

            “We were but at that time Voldemort was still crazy and Harry hadn’t joined our side yet. I had to keep up appearances that I hated Remus since he was on the side of the Light. I knew that he would cancel the assignment the minute he was better so I hoped that no one would actually go it. For the most part I was right only a few of the students in those classes did the paper, Hermione being one of them.” He responded

            “Ah yes Hermione we find that out at the end of the third year. Now back to the story. There was a Quidditch game hat weekend and Dementors came onto the field and attacked Harry who fainted and fell off his broom. The first Hogsmeade trip came around and Harry’s letter wasn’t signed he tried to get Professor McGonagall to sign it but she refused. She got help from the Weasley’s and got the Marauders Map which he used to sneak into Hogsmeade. While he is in Hogsmeade he overhead McGonagall Minister Fudge and a few others talking about Sirius Black and find out that he is Harry’s godfather and that he murdered his parents.

            “Christmas comes and Buckbeak is going to be executed thanks to Lucius here. Why do you hate Hagrid so much and why did you push for Buckbeak to be executed? You have to admit it was Draco’s fault for insulting it.”

“Hagrid blindly followed Dumbledore. I know that this is a childish reason to hate someone but he just couldn’t see the truth. I had Buckbeak executed or attempted to have him executed because I didn’t think that he should have let students that young get close to a hippogriff. Even if it was part of the lesson, bowing down to it was one thing but having the touch and ride it is another. They are dangerous animals.”

“Yes they are but how can one learn how dangerous and how to deal with them. There is only so much that one can learn from books real life experiences can go along way. I guess from what I read you just took it too far. Hagrid also has a reason to trust Dumbledore, at least in his mind. He gave him a job when he was expelled for something he never did. Sure Dumbledore knew but Hagrid never knew that. To him he was the one person who looked out for him. On with the story, soon after Christmas in which Harry gets a Firebolt which is promptly taken from him. Professor Lupin begins to teach him how to make a Patronous. Severus catches Harry out in the hall with the map because Peter Pettigrew was on it and he was told the Peter was dead. Remus saved Harry from the evil potions master and takes the map from him while dismissing what he said about Peter. Scabbers Ron’s rat disappears. One night Ron’s bed to be ripped to shreds, people figured out that it was Sirius Black they thought that he was looking for Harry and got the wrong bed. The portrait of the Pink Lady was ripped as well she freaked out and wouldn’t return to her post.

            “Draco brags to Snape that he saw Harry’s head in Hogsmeade. I am guessing either that it didn’t happen that way or that Draco was worried about him being out with Black so close.”

            “You are right. Draco was on Hermione’s side about letting Harry use the map and cloak to get to Hogsmeade. Eventually Hermione lightened up but he never did. Since Sirius was being spotted him he was even more worried so he did that one that that he could to get him to the castle. They were mad at him but they eventually accepted by why he did that and they were talking again. That was one of the worst time for me. Narcissa and I kept getting notes from him about how he would never get a chance to court Hermione now and that they all hated him. He can be quite the winer when he wants to be. Never in public but with family we are completely different.” Lucius said.

            “I guess that makes sense any ways the rest of that year was boring until the end of the year when Buckbeak was scheduled to be executed. Draco and some of his Slytherin buddy’s ‘came to watch the show’ Hermione got pissed and punch him in the nose. That is one thing I would love to see. Anyways they go down to talk with Hagrid where they find Scabbers on the way back up to the castle after seeing the execution form the castle doors Scabbers bites Ron and runs off. A big black dog that looks like the Grim come and attacks Ron dragging him into the Whopping Willow. The other find a way to follow them by using the trees branches as a swing to be flipped into the hole at the base of the tree. This ends up the be a secret passageway to the Shrieking Shack an only falling down bordered up house in Hogsmeade that is roomed to be haunted. Haunted houses much are really something in the wizarding world. Here they find Ron in what looked like an only bed room that was torn up and had teeth and scratch marks on everything. Ron try’s to tell them that it was a trap and that Sirius Black was the dog. They turn to see a crazed man. After some yelling and talking Professor Lupin burst in and prevents Harry from killing Sirius and greets him like an only friend. Hermione claims the Remus betrayed them and that she shouldn’t have kept his secret of being a werewolf. They explain what really going on with Peter Pettigrew is being alive and that the rat is really a human yadi yada and forced Peter to change. Sometime between all of that chaos Snape came. Harry knocks him out and allows the two to explain. Harry stops them from killing Peter and that they will take him to the Dementors. Once outside Lupin forgot to take the potion and the moon caused him to change into Moony. Harry runs after a hurt Sirius and the Dementors come he thinks that he sees his father across the lake and wakes up in the hospital. Dumbledore comes and tell Hermione and Harry to use Hermione’s time turner to save two innocent lives. They free Buckbeak and use Buckbeak to free Sirius.” I finished voice scratchy. Severus handed me water. I smiled my thanks. I was getting tired. Remus was sitting next to me and I curled up subconsciously using his shoulder as a pillow. I jumped when he moved his arm to wrap it around me. I tried to move muttering me apologies he only shook his head and held me getting me more comfortable against him. I was surprised how comfortable his arm felt around me and how safe I felt to be next to Remus. I never trusted easily and the fact that I completely trusted the three men in front of me scared me. Yet I didn’t want to leave their presence

            “Most of that story happened but I think we have some explaining to do.” Severus started. “I knew about the map when I caught Harry in the hall. I also thought the Black was out to hunt Harry and kill him. I was trying to get the map away from him. Remus realized I was having a hard time getting it from him and came to help. Since we were not suppose to be friends he could really make it look like he was helping. The other part of the story that is a bit off it the ending with the Shrieking Shack. Draco was mad at Hermione for hitting him. Ron, Hermione and Harry were mad at Draco for trying to get Hagrid fired which I now think Dumbledore had a lot to do with making them mad at him. Still don’t know how though. They were also mad about the execution. Draco still didn’t get on their good side from the whole diary incident. He was more of an outsider for the third year doing what he could to keep Harry safe. He really did think he lost his friends. After Draco ran into the castle he watched the action form one of the windows. He saw the dog and Hermione and Harry go into the tree. He was scared that they were going to get hurt so he ran to find me. I was on my way to Remus’ to give him the potion only to get there and find that he is gone.”

            “I was already going down to the shack then. I saw Peter and Sirius on the map and knew I had to stop the three of them from killing Sirius. I knew that I still had to take the potion but I was worried about what was happening in the shack and left. It was foolish of me and I’m still feeling guilty for forgetting even now.” Remus continued.

            “Everything that happened in the shack was surprisingly true but outside of it wasn’t. Lucius and I are Remus’ mates; a werewolf can’t harm their mate. I was trying to keep the kids behind me know that Moony wouldn’t hurt me to get to them. It worked to and extent until Harry tried to go after Peter. Moony went to attack Harry and Sirius went to stop him. When Sirius gets hurt by Moony and Harry foolishly goes to follow and try to help Sirius. The rest happened as you said. Remus also resigned form being professor the day after.” Severus said. “You should go it’s almost dinner time.”

I yawned and nodded. “Can I come over later?” I asked trying to look so desperate. I didn’t know why I wanted to see them so much. Part of me just never wanted to be out of their presence. I pushed this feeling aside waiting form their answer.

            “Your parents are going to miss you” Lucius said “We shall see you tomorrow.” I sighed and left almost feeling rejected. I guess I over stayed my welcome.
