Chapter Four
@
(Five years later)
"Are you really going to eat that, Potter?" Draco looked down at the soupy excuse for potatoes piled upon the plate. His own was barely edible. Why the hell were they eating at this place? They should have gone back to London for lunch. He’d be lucky not to vomit. He could have done better if he’d cooked it himself.
"It’s something, don’t complain Malfoy." Harry was sure he’d regret it later but he was hungry. Going back was just a waste of time. "We just might hear something while we are here. Don’t forget why we offered to take this case."
"You don’t have to remind me, Potter. I’ve been dealing with the loss for the last five years as well. You weren’t the only one that lost something." Draco speared a piece of chicken angrily. The pain had resurfaced the second he’d taken a peek at the file. The victim had been found with her organs torn up and half eaten. It wasn’t exactly the same as the incident that had convinced him to become an Auror but close enough. If there was a chance that it was in anyway connected to what had happened at Hogwarts then he wanted to be the one to find out who was behind the attacks. To this day the Ministry had no idea who had attacked and killed Pansy.
They didn’t need to make a scene in the muggle establishment. They were here to investigate the murder. The body had been seen too. All that was left was to inspect the home. Draco was positive that if they could find the one responsible then it would provide closure to many. The person he was worried about was currently making an arse out of himself. Blaise hadn’t taken it that well. Why else would the man marry Daphne? Not only had he done the unthinkable and married the slag but they had a child. Their son was two years old and already feeling the brunt of a horrible marriage. Seeing the couple had him thankful for his own wife. If he had to see another marriage go to shite, it’d drive him nutters. "How did your wife take the news? Or did you not tell her?"
"No, I haven’t. I don’t want to remind her of anything. She’s in her six month. I’ve already had to forbid her from visiting Lovegood. The last time she went over he managed to upset her." Harry didn’t like it. Every time Ginny went to check up on the old man she came back distraught. "I swear the man has totally lost touch with reality. He refuses to accept that she’s gone. Ginny says he still speaks like she’s around. Last time he actually said he had to go shopping for a Birthday present."
"Not like he wasn’t far from it to begin with. As much as I’d like to sympathize, I got my own issues to worry about. This case is just what I need to distract me." Draco knew his partner wanted to ask about his father. It was on Harry’s face. Everyone knew how hard the end of the war had been on his folks. Financially his father had regained what had been lost but the war had taken it’s toll on their marriage. Two years ago his mother had fled to France with her lover. The divorce was final but his father wasn’t the same. He spent all of his time working.
Perhaps this case would give them all closure. Harry took a bite of the processed potatoes. They tasted alright, if a little mushy. "Did you find anything else useful in the notes? It would be nice if we have some kind of clue as to what we might be dealing with."
"The answer is yes. We could be dealing with a few things. Unfortunately, I think our information is half-arsed. We aren’t sure what would have been the end result. Since the attack was interrupted, I’m confused. Vampires don’t eat organs, just blood. It doesn’t look like a werewolf attack. I did pay attention in class, when we had a decent professor. Honestly, the Ministry still doesn’t know what caused the previous deaths. If this is similar we could be looking for the same kind of creature."
"I don’t think so, not really." Harry reached for the salt. "This victim was torn open to get to the organs. We have an old case where the victim’s organs were destroyed from the inside. This latest they were torn out from the outside. Maybe we are dealing with two magical creatures that are similar but not the same. Should we be wondering why there hasn’t been many cases recorded of this type of attack?"
"You think there is a chance that we are dealing with something the Ministry hasn’t documented? How is that possible?" His chicken tasted like over-cooked arse. Draco would have given anything for a tasty meal. If only to keep his mind off what it’d be like to gnaw on someone’s organs. The only werewolf he knew that had taken a liking to human flesh was Greyback, who was currently sitting in a cell. "If one of these is an undocumented creature then what do you suggest we do?"

"This feels so good. Shame I can’t get a nice tan." Pansy stretched leisurely on the soft towel. The cotton felt wonderful against her skin. The only thing that would make this better would be if her skin would take on a darker hue. It wasn’t as pale as Luna’s but was too pale for her liking. Said girl was currently speaking to her father through floo inside the small cottage. "I really need to get out more."
There was no response, not that she expected one. On the long stretch of beach was noone to listen to her ranting. The place wasn’t too horrible. It was far from where she’d grown up. Luna had chosen this place three months ago. Upon closer inspection there were only two other cottages anywhere close. One was about a mile down the shore. The other three miles away. For the most part they were left alone. Mr. Lovegood had purchased the home.
It was a shame she couldn’t tell her own parents. They would try to stake her then leave her corpse to the sun. All that would do would be to piss her off. Being what she was her heart wasn’t exactly a weak spot. In all reality it was already dead. Which she didn’t understand because she could still feel emotions. Marta had explained that the curse had changed it. Being that the organ would always remain more or less dead it couldn’t be used to kill them. It still beat, very slowly. The only way to completely destroy their kind was by decapitation. Any wound would heal. Even burns would heal, once again very slowly. There were downfalls and great benefits from the change.
Several of the drawbacks was needing to feed off of males. Muggle or wizard, the sex of the person had to be a male. They could find prey through scent. Unlike a vampire they didn’t have to feed as often. Once a month was enough to keep their magical core alive. The sun wouldn’t kill them but too much of it made her ill. They could use some magic but nothing like the spells she’d been taught. With the use of the hand they had to concentrate on what they wanted to happen. No quick casting. It took decades to get as good as Marta. There was also the awful pale skin that wouldn’t tan. Hair that wouldn’t restyle no matter what she used. The straight thick mass hung down to her waist on most days. Then the worst part was she couldn’t be with a man. Luna was great company but at times she thought she’d like some other form of companionship. They could only lose their purity to one person, their servant. There was another name but it was long and she couldn’t pronounce it. It was more or less what the man would be. The problem with having one is they were very rare. Only three of the seventy-nine in their coven had one. It is said that you’d know the wizard once you tasted him. Pansy only drew blood when the hunger became unbearable. The idea of tasting constantly to find the one didn’t sit well with her.
A few of the benefits were the upgraded senses. She could see exceptionally well even in the dark. It made hunting easier. The enchanted speed and strength was a plus due to their magic being altered. A wand was no better than a piece of wood. Being this type of magical creature made it impossible to use her magic through the use of something from another. Didn’t matter if it was dragon heart string, unicorn hair or pheonix feather; her magic wouldn’t cooperate with a wand. So far they had both mastered moving objects when they wished. Harder things like starting a fire or stunning someone was still way out of reach. Which made being able to protect herself physically a definite perk. A wizard couldn’t curse her if he couldn’t hit her. They couldn’t shift forms but she had never wanted to turn into an animal to begin with. They could eat regular food, it helped the hunger between hunts.
"Da says Harry Potter has stopped by." Luna sat down on the sand uncaring of the particles getting onto her skirt. She had gotten use to her condition. Hearing Harry’s name caused no kind of emotional stir. Any emotion retaining to him was no longer there. She could put him in the category of wizards and acquaintances but there was no longer that strong love. It had died with her. She still felt the love of a daughter for her father and that of a good friend for Ginny Weasley Potter. The only male they could have any kind of strong emotions for now were their familiar. Or as Pansy called them, servants. Neither of them were going to search for that. Getting any type of attachment to a man didn’t sit well with her. Their familiar would have an acceptable magical core that could bond with their own. No wizard in this age would want to attach himself to a magical creature that fed off the blood of others.
"What did Boy Wonder want?" Pansy shielded her eyes. She’d heard that Potter, Weasley, Malfoy and Zambini had all taken the Auror training. Yay! Aurors wouldn’t be too kind to see their kind running around. Werewolves and vampires were still getting the short end. Both were being monitored. Registered vampires had to feed from the supplies the Ministry provided. Werewolves had to take their potion.
"He was with Malfoy. They were asking him questions about a case. Da agreed to try and help. Potter said he’d be waiting for any information Da can give. Although Da isn’t sure what is causing the killings. He asked if we might know. I told him we couldn’t unless we went over the information." Luna had felt sadness at hearing that one of the victims had been a little boy. A muggle but still a five year old child that hadn’t deserved to die.
Help the Aurors? She’d rather not tan and jump into a tub of the one thing that was poisonous to them. Feminine blood. "It’s hard to imagine that the Boy Who Sucks needs help. Then again he’s partnered with the Boy Who Won’t Die. Why would we want to help them? What do we get out of it?"
"Dunno, peace of mind? Da says the deaths were gruesome and that the Ministry is getting impatient. There is talk about them coming down hard on all magical creatures if the case isn’t closed. Not only have there been many Muggle killings but a few Wizards have been killed as well. The organs are almost all missing, some left chewed. There are also a lot of disappearances. But the Ministry isn’t sure if it is connected to the case at all." The blonde tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. The long curls had a way of getting in the way if not kept up. "It would be something to do."
"You just want to help. I’m bored as well but you do realize that it would mean that we’d be chancing getting discovered." Pansy didn’t care to see any of them again. She wanted to stay hidden and wallow in happiness. "Or do you want to see Potty again? I got to admit seeing the look on Malfoy’s face would be worth it. He’d probably shite himself, the arse. Where is Potty staying anyways?"
"He’s at the Burrow. Ginny is pregnant so she’s with her Mum. Maybe I just want to do something. The last thing we need is a creature hunt. We could get them to swear an oath not to reveal what we are." Luna was glad that her best friend was still happy and about to start a family. A family was something she’d never have. With her familiar she could get intimate but kids were beyond her now. She didn’t love Harry so seeing him again would be no big deal.
"Alright, contact your Da and get the agreement first. I’d hate to have to kill someone. Okay, kill the men at least." Pansy wasn’t about to shove her fist through Mrs. Weasley’s face. It was possible but she’d be ill for weeks on end. Too much blood and it could kill her. Best to get an oath from all those involved. "What’s for dinner?"
"Bloody hell, Harry. Do you actually believe the loon?" Ron crammed a piece of the warm cookie into his mouth ignoring the glare from his Mum. He was starving and dinner wouldn’t be for another two hours. He was allowed to complain and snatch a cookie. Because Harry and his git of a partner couldn’t close a case he had been dragged in. Zambini and he had just solved a case pertaining to break ins. They had automatically been instructed to help Potter with this case. He’d been against going to Lovegood for help. Whatever they were up against was real and didn’t live in Mistletoe. This would get them nowhere. "Do you really think he knows someone that can help?"
"I do, Ron. We are obviously looking for something that hasn’t been recorded by the Ministry. Who is to say that it’s not one of these unknown creatures he’s always written about." Harry ran a hand through his hair in aggravation. He didn’t need this. He needed everyone that was on this case to be behind his decisions. He didn’t see Zambini or Malfoy bitching about his methods.
"Potter is right. We have to use every source that is available." Draco accepted the cookie offered by Mrs. Weasley. "If you’d ask a Muggle if unicorns were real they’d say no."
"Draco has a point." Ginny ran a hand along her extended stomach. Sitting around the table were the four Aurors. Her parents and her eldest brother. Hermione was home with their newborn. George was still single but running the shop on his own. Percy was married and living elsewhere, still teaching at Hogwarts. Charlie had gone back to his dragons. "I’d also like to point out the man is good at research. Being as these deaths are close to what happened to his own child, he may have already researched what it is."
"Ginny," Harry didn’t want to snap at his wife. Bringing that up wasn’t the wisest thing to do. Everyone here had lost something that morning. Some of them hadn’t yet accepted what had happened. He was one of them. Seeing the one person that had NEVER judged him tortured like that had destroyed something. It wasn’t right. If there was one person that deserved to be protected and sheltered, it had been Luna. Neville was currently dating Hannah but was still mourning the loss of the blonde. "He said if they agree he’ll be bringing them by this evening. Everyone in this room will have to make an oath of sorts. I’m going to assume that whomever he is bringing is a magical creature that doesn’t want their identity to get out."
Ron tapped his fingers on the table. He was going to ignore the fact that his Mum was favoring his uptight partner to give the man a cookie but denying her own son. There was nothing wrong with his weight. Mione didn’t mind that he had a small stomach. His wife still loved him. "Not like we are going to turn them in. We were with the Order."
"Not all of you," Bill spoke up for the first time since sitting down at the table. This was none of his business but they didn’t seem to care that he was sitting in on the conversation. This beat laying up in bed and getting angry over things he couldn’t change. Or flooing back home and choking his cheating spouse. These days he didn’t particularly care if she was allowing some other man to dick her. Wasn’t like Fluer was sharing, they hadn’t been together in a year. As soon as she had found out she was pregnant with their second child, which he wasn’t sure was even his, she hadn’t wanted to be touched. Their marriage had been great after the war. For about two years. Suddenly things had begun to go downhill. One nasty fight had put an irreversible wound on their marriage. The things she had said had made him so angry he’d stalked out for several weeks. She had sworn to never use his condition against him during a disagreement. That promise had been broken with many others.
"Spare us, Weasley. We are Aurors just like Potter. We aren’t going to go blabbing to the Ministry. I could care less as to who or what this informant is. As long as they don’t end up as a file on my desk." Blaise didn’t like the man’s attitude. Just because the man’s wife couldn’t handle his infection didn’t mean that everyone was against non-wizards. He’d finally chosen a side after seeing what a dark curse or creature had done to the first girl he’d every cared about. She was gone but he could help others from meeting the same fate. He still loved her. If he had wanted to forget her it wouldn’t have been possible due to Daphne constantly throwing his lack of emotion back in his face. Not once had he ever lied to his wife by saying he loved her. She had known the reason for their marriage. If not for his son being conceived he would still be single.
The floo activated stopping all conversations briefly. "Shite," Harry groaned seeing another ginger head step forward. The room was becoming crowded. There was no getting rid of the ones that lived here. They were using the Burrow as their meeting place for this case. Mr. Weasley was also trying to help the best he could.
"Did I come at a bad time?" George eyed the tension that was swirling around the group. It was Sunday, was it not? The last time he checked he had an open invitation to dinner. What the hell was Malfoy and Zambini doing here?
"Only if you aren’t for taking an oath." Bill leaned back in the chair to glare at the dark Slytherin. What was one more Weasley? If he were honest, he was hoping for a fight. It was close to the full moon and he had a lot of pent up anger. Discussing things with his Mum didn’t help get rid of the anger at his soon to be ex. He was pissed that she had been lying to him. That she was now using their children as a weapon to hurt him. Pissed that for over a year she had denied him any form of marital affection then used his affliction as to the reason she didn’t want him touching her. He was too rough, he always made her sore. He was hurting her. He didn’t get off in five minutes so she obviously didn’t do anything for him anyways.
"I’m for it. What’s for dinner?" George was glad to see his eldest brother was actually sitting at the table tonight. Two weeks ago the poor man wouldn’t come down from the room. In his opinion Fluer wasn’t worth getting upset over. Just like Angelina wasn’t worth getting bent out of shape over. He had figured out soon enough that she was wanting to see his twin in him. When she kept suggesting things what Fred would like to do while going out, he had grown tired of it. They’d only had sex twice during their brief four month relationship.
"Sauteed duck in orange sauce, roast potatoes, fried corn and rolls. There’s chocolate cake for dessert. It’ll be served as soon as everyone gets here." Molly brought him over towards the table. Any of her children were always welcomed to the table. She was sure Xenophollis wouldn’t mind any of her children being present. "Come sit down. I’m sure another ear is welcome."
"Only if it is one." He took a seat next to Bill, wanting to put some space between him and his pregnant sister. He didn’t want to be the victim of one of Gin’s mood swings. He wasn’t sure how Harry dealt with it. He wasn’t sure if he wanted children. His siblings were doing just fine reproducing to ensure the Weasley line. "What kind of oath and why is everyone so glum?"
"Nice, George." Ginny snapped, not caring if it wounded. She didn’t see how he could be so chipper. She may be cranky due to being pregnant and bloated but that wasn’t the reason she was in a foul mood. She didn’t want Harry on this case. A part of her wanted him to solve it in case it was the same things that were responsible for taking Luna away. At the same time it would be dangerous. Her husband wasn’t dealing with an insane wizard. Dark creatures could be lethal. There was a chance it was more than one. Her husband could get killed or worse, eaten.
"Ignore her, she’s moody. We are discussing our case. Well, it was Harry and Malfoy’s case until yesterday. The Ministry has us working on a bunch of mutilated killings." Ron managed to snag another cookie when his Mum had her back turned. His Da shot him a grin in her stead. "They’re pretty disturbing."
"Very disturbing." Draco could smell the food slowly cooking in the oven. The home would never be up to his liking but the woman could cook. It was better than the magically prepared food he got at home. "Not to mention everyone here is well aware of the significance of the resemblance of what happened over five years ago."
"Five years ago?" George tried to remember what had happened then. Luna? They hadn’t been too close during school or after the war. He’d always done his thing with Fred until the war. After he had pretty much locked himself away in the shop. It was the one thing he had left of his twin. He didn’t want to lose it. He’d dated off and on over the years, nothing special. He’d still been in his decline when the murders had happened at Hogwarts. So much he hadn’t attended the funeral or cared to learn the details.
"Yeah, you know when my best friend was found mutilated in the Great Hall!" Gin raised her voice to drown out her husband’s demand that she calm down. "You shut up, Harry. I’m not afraid to talk about it. Why skirt around the topic? I’m not that fragile. My best friend was killed for no reason. Not to mention Pansy was with her. I’m sure Draco and Blaise would like to know who is responsible. I didn’t know Pansy that well but no one deserves what happened to them."
"I’m not telling you to shut up. I just don’t want you getting too upset. It’s not good for the baby." He didn’t like seeing her upset. Molly was already coming over to run a hand over her daughter’s shoulder in a vain attempt to quell the famous Weasley temper. "Getting angry at George isn’t going to help. He didn’t mean anything by it."
"Sorry," she feebly apologized at her outburst. He only nodded to say he hadn’t taken it to heart. She couldn’t help it if she was distraught. Hearing Lovegood speak about his only daughter always brought back the tears. Her best friend had been killed. While the Golden Trio had always been together, she had been with Luna.
"Can I ask about the case? And who is coming?" George hadn’t taken her rant seriously. He only felt guilty about forgetting about yet another loss his sister had been forced to endure. Not even a year after losing their brother she’d lost her best friend. He knew what that was like. Fred had been his best friend as well as his twin. When he’d heard the news he’d assumed she had been killed by a rogue Death Eater. "What does it have to do with Luna’s case?"
"Luna and Pansy’s," Harry clarified not wanting to leave the other girl out. She had been slain as well. "Well, to clue you in. They were found with their organs destroyed. The cause of death was the destruction of their heart. That case was never solved. Now, in the last few months there has been lots of disappearances. We aren’t sure if they are relevant to this case or not. The few deaths that have been discovered we believe the act was interrupted. The victims were found with some organs missing, some half eaten. There is a chance this has nothing to do with what happened five years ago because Luna and Pansy had theirs still, they were just shredded. These victims had been torn open to get to their insides."
"Pansy and Luna were covered in blood but there wasn’t a scratch on them." Ron added in. "It’s possible that their wounds had been magically closed but the report states that they couldn’t find any traces of magic being used. It’s really bizarre."
"Anyways," Harry interrupted. "Since this is unlike anything we’ve come across before, we decided to try an outside source. Mr. Lovegood has promised to help. We figured since he made a living out of pursuing the existence of unknown creatures, he may know what we are dealing with. We got a message from him earlier that he had someone we could talk to. The only stipulation was that anyone privy to what we learn must make an oath. I think he’s bringing in some kind of Dark Creature to speak to us and they are willing to help as long as we keep their presence a secret."
"Sounds about right," Bill gave a small smile towards his sister. He hadn’t known the Lovegood girl well and had never met the Parkinson girl. He had already graduated before she started Hogwarts. He got that she’d been a close friend of Malfoy and Zambini. "Not every Dark Creature wears their signature on their face."
"Oh hush, I won’t have that kind of talk at this table." Molly scolded him before going back towards the oven to check on dinner. She could hex that bitch for making her son conscious of his scars. To think she’d given them her blessing. She should have known it’d be only a matter of time before the slag turned on her little boy. "Is that the door?"
"I’ll get it." Harry got up, making sure to have his wand ready. He didn’t think a threat would be polite enough to knock if it had somehow managed to get past the wards. It was probably his guests. It was cracked to reveal a grinning Lovegood. "Evening, thanks for coming."
"No problem, Potter. We are glad to be of assistance. May we come in?" Xenophollis nodded towards the two at his sides. He’d suggested that they cover up their faces with the use of a cloak and a mask. The only thing that could be seen was their eyes. If later they wished to have their identities discovered that was their choice. He agreed that this case needed to be solved. The last thing he wanted was the Ministry deciding to look into what his daughter was. If the Ministry started to blame her coven for the attacks then they’d be tagged with an even more disturbing label.
Pansy almost laughed seeing the Burrow. How the hell had the family maintained that many children without going stark mad in this small home? She couldn’t have imagined growing up around her parents without three floors separating her from their drivel. The crimson cloaks were kind of agitating against her skin. Probably spent too much time out in the sun yesterday. At least the food smelt awesome. How the hell could she eat? She couldn’t. It meant pulling down the material covering most of her features. "Nice, I’m hungry now."
"What did she say?" Harry was sure the voice was female. He had stepped aside to allow them to enter the home. It sounded nothing like parseltongue or anything else he’d ever heard before. Maybe french. There was no hissing, it sent shivers down his spine. It got worse when the shorter of the two responded.
"Don’t be rude," Luna smirked seeing the confusion on Harry’s face. He hadn’t changed much since the last time she’d seen him. Nothing, she felt nothing. Maybe some happiness that seeing an old friend was well but that was it.
"I’m just saying. That smells good and I won’t be able to eat any of it." Pansy informed her friend before shrugging. She had a right to bitch. Couldn’t they have come when dinner wasn’t cooking? Her increased appetite always kicked in whenever she smelt something good cooking. Especially if it was meat. Rolling her eyes she turned to their host and spoke clearly, "Apologies. I was saying something smelt delicious."
"No problem, please come inside. The others are waiting at the table." He was sure Molly would invite them, whatever they were, to stay for dinner. The woman lived to feed others. Why were they wearing masks? All he could make out were dark brown eyes and a pair of startling light blue. "We are thankful for any help. We are kind of at a loss."
"Indeed," Xenophollis beamed a smile at the elder Weasley’s. "You are looking well, Molly. It’s good to see you again, Arthur."
"Yes, yes, come take a seat. Your company is welcome to sit as well." Arthur waved them over to the table. The group had gone silent as the trio walked into the kitchen. Something told him that the couple at the man’s side wasn’t human.
Bill knew they weren’t. His nose tingled as they neared. The scent wasn’t disturbing, like a vampire. They didn’t smell of death or decay. It was more earthy, magical. The smaller’s scent wasn’t that strong. There was an undertone of fresh air and apples. The taller, by two inches, was more prominent. Along with the earthy scent was the overwhelming hint of being in a field of multiple flowers. It was like falling right into the middle of the field to be captivated by all the smells flowing from each individual blossom. His nerves stirred at the refreshing scent. Maybe because he’d gotten use to his wife’s overpowering stench of sweat and semen that didn’t belong to him. Both were definitely female, even if he couldn’t make out the swell of breasts beneath the heavy cloaks.
"Wow, I didn’t know Weasley’s made them like that." Pansy smirked beneath her mask as she looked around the table. Ronald was still as dorky as he had been in school. Potter was Potter. The one twin was still cute but didn’t do anything for her. Malfoy was Malfoy. Blaise Zambini could go to hell and he wasn’t her type anymore. The last male sitting at the far end of the table was a piece of work. Not even the long gashes down his face could distract from his looks. The long ginger hair only added to the appeal. A man with earrings?
"Stop staring, we don’t need a reason for them to stare." Luna reminded her companion without any hostility. She could understand the girl’s comment. The eldest Weasley had always been the best looking. This was probably the first time Pansy had seen the guy. "Besides, he is married and you can’t have sex!"
"Bust my cunt, why don’t you." Pansy sneered at having her fantasy squashed. Just because she couldn’t do it didn’t mean she couldn’t find something hot to place in her mind when she took care of business on her own.
"Blimey, what the hell are they?" Ron broke the otherwise silence. He’d heard Harry speak in a different language before but this was different. It sounded human, just different, seductive. They couldn’t be Veela.
"Friends, that are willing to help if they can." Xenophollis answered the question. He wouldn’t risk his daughter being taken again. "I don’t think they wish to sit. We are also short on time so if you would, Potter."
Harry understood what that meant. Whatever they were, they weren’t here to be stared at or to be interrogated. "If you could please show them this file. There are pictures of the victims that were found. We have already ruled out vampires, werewolves, and goblins. We have some information about other creatures but aren’t sure if they are capable of what is occurring."
"May we see the file?" Luna asked clearly so he could understand. She remained standing next to her father’s shoulder. Pansy had the other. Her own living parent was the only other person that had contact with them. It had caused her companion to become attached to her father as well. He more or less now considered Pansy one of his girls.
"That’s disgusting," Pansy snarled at the third picture. What the fuck was going on? She hadn’t expected the file to contain something so disturbing. It was no wonder the old man was convinced that the Ministry would soon start cracking down on all Magical Creatures. To cause this much damage was horrible. They weren’t simply feeding but leaving a message. Her comment got a snort from Draco. "Wait, do you see this?"
Luna looked closer at the picture to see what she was supposed to be seeing. It was a picture of a young girl. She’d guess the age to be around thirteen or fourteen, barely reaching puberty. She spoke so just Pansy would hear her. "She was violated. So far the pictures are only of male victims or elderly female victims."
"We were told that there have been a few missing people reported." Pansy addressed Potter with the questions since it seemed he was in charge of the case. She had an idea what it may be already. It was one of the first things they were taught after joining their coven. If it was true then they would have to report back to Marta.
"Right, I have the list in this file. We aren’t sure that all of these are connected to this case. Nothing has been found indicating foul play or them being injured." Harry flipped another file open to withdraw the list of names. Could they read?
Pansy snatched the list wanting to see it immediately. The Chosen One only frowned at her rudeness. She didn’t have time to be subtle. In her time as a Banshee, she had only come across one of these creatures. One had come close to their coven, a spy. It had been dealt with quickly. Seeing it screeching as it fought to live had left a strong impact of what a Dark Creature was really like. This time she spoke only to Luna. "Most of these are females, all young enough to be fertile. I think we need to speak to Marta. We may have stumbled onto something that we shouldn’t have."
"Right," Luna spoke so everyone could understand. She didn’t fear them recognizing her voice. It had changed along with her. It was softer but more mature. "Auror Potter, we are willing to help. We are positive we know what you are dealing with. Before we can offer any more assistance we must converse with our Marta. She will then decide how much assistance we are able to give. However I must insist that in our absence you demand a scan be done on this victim here."
"It’s a little girl." Harry wasn’t sure why they’d want a scan done. They knew the cause of death already.. Her heart had been gone along with kidneys and bladder.
"What’s one victim over the rest? Do you know her?" Ron asked to hint at their identity. Why did he feel like he had heard the shorter one before? He wasn’t the only one with a concerned look. Ginny had an odd look on her face.
"Did you notice something that we did not?" Draco stood from the chair to walk over to see which one it was. With a quick glance he saw the little girl. It was one of the victims that had been found with her family.
"Yes," Pansy spoke to him. He was always such an arse. Wizards! Always expecting things to be so simple. Or maybe it was because of their eyesight? "Once we are gone use something to magnify the picture. First, she is the only victim that is a female that is of age. Of age, we mean she has already entered puberty. If you look close enough near the right thigh you can distinctly make out a small amount of secretions. It may be invisible to the average eye but we can clearly make it out. This girl was violated by what is responsible. Of course you wouldn’t discover it if you had done a normal search because it would only pick up tearing of the area. Ninety percent is missing witches of processing age. Potter, what we wish for you to check for is to see whether or not this victim was fertile."
"What does it matter if she was? There are other victims of middle aged witches in there as well." Blaise asked not seeing the point behind it. Were they trying to say the attacks were of a sexual nature?
"No offense to the middle aged in this room." Luna turned to the dark male. She spoke softly trying to explain the need to check. "The older a witch is, the less fertile her system is. A witch can still be fertile during her middle age but it is a different level of fertility. Her system produces less eggs. A human female’s reproductive system can accumulate a certain number of eggs. Only one or two, possibly three depending on the witch can be released during ovulation. That still leaves the many that is left. A female doesn’t just produce one egg a month, Auror Zambini. I’m sure if you check all those older female victims probably had their ovaries removed as well. That is if they were any use to the creatures."
"She’s right. Several of the middle aged women had their ovaries removed. If some of these women on this list are victims then why are they missing and not dead? Why not just remove theirs as well and leave the corpse behind?" Harry hoped it wasn’t what he thought.
"Because they aren’t corpses, yet. A woman can produce more eggs if she is young enough. They are alive and being harvested." Pansy was now glad that she couldn’t produce children. No, these things would lop off her head just from her smell alone.
"One question, if she wasn’t actually violated sexually with a cock then what made this secretion you say is there? Which I still can’t see," Draco noticed the one closer to him inched away at the sound of his voice being so close. Didn’t like males? Or was it wizards?
"She was tested and she failed. That’s all we will say for now." Luna closed the file. She didn’t want to keep looking at the dead bodies. She was a hunter but she never killed. It was a law. They were never to kill when they fed. Their coven wouldn’t give the Ministry a reason to hunt them down. She noticed the look she received when she handed it back over. The bright green eyes landed on her nails. They weren’t that odd, not like a vampire or werewolf. They were longer, sharper and a dusky white. "We will contact you directly when we return."
"Do you wish to stay for dinner? I mean if you can, you are more than welcome to stay." Molly made the offer because she was always a gracious host. She had no idea what kind of creatures they were but she would offer them food.
George listened to them declining the offer to remain for dinner. What were they? How did they know Lovegood? The man appeared almost fatherly as he stood and placed a hand on their backs. What kind of creature allowed that kind of contact with a wizard? It showed a lot of trust. The taller one had moved away when Malfoy got too close indicating she didn’t care for the proximity. "What if you need to be contacted? Should we go through Mr. Lovegood? I’m assuming he is on very friendly terms with you."
What was he implying? Luna knew her father had a habit of forgetting that she was supposed to be deceased. She was sure he still made the mistake of speaking her in present tense at times. Had anyone else picked up on the relationship that was obviously shared between them and her father? So much for passing themselves as mere acquaintances. It did bring her attention to the surviving twin. His hair was cropped to frame his face and only about two inches elsewhere. He was still very attractive with dreamy eyes. Naturally, she had noticed him despite her feelings for Harry. Not many girls hadn’t noticed how cute the twins were. He looked to be doing well. Looking too long had her stomach tightening at the piercing gaze.
"You’re making me sick over here. And you had the nerve to talk to me." Pansy chuckled knowing only Luna could understand what was being said. See, she wasn’t the only one aware of the fact that some Weasley’s could be moist worthy. "You’ll be lucky if the wolf wanna-be doesn’t get a whiff soon. We better leave before you embarrass yourself. Cause either you got the sudden like for ginger meat or it’s because that old flame is burning."
"It is not," she wouldn’t stand here and be accused of still having a thing for Harry. They both knew that it was magically impossible for any type of romantic emotions to re-develop for the Boy Wonder. "I care for him as much as you do for Mr. Beady Eyes, over there. Maybe your boast on how fine Bill is, was your way of covering up the fact that you couldn’t tear your eyes off the arse."
"Am I the only one that is lost?" Ginny tried to understand what was being said by their tones alone. It sounded like they were arguing at each other. She couldn’t tell by their facial expressions. She’d be alarmed if not for the sudden laugh erupting from the taller one.
"Did you want to grab his hand? He’s right there, Luna. Grab it. Oh wait, his bloated wife is sitting nearby. Best not interfere with that. Sucks don’t it, she got the dick and you’ll die a second time still a virgin." Pansy was sure she’d see the tongue sticking at her if not for the mask. Picking had long become a way of accepting a past that couldn’t be changed. She was sure the one-eared wonder often did the same. Or the hot one with the scars.
"If I had a cock this is where I’d tell you to suck it." Luna knew she spoke where everyone could understand when Mrs. Weasley started coughing on her tea. She threw her hands up in agitation. This wasn’t the place for this. "Harry, you may leave a message with our contact if it is needed. He knows how to get in contact with us immediately. Until then, have a pleasant evening."
"Well, that was pleasant. Girls, what can you do?" Xenophollis was used to them ranting at each other where he couldn’t understand. Most of the time he was glad he couldn’t. It would probably ruin the image he had of his sweet little daughter, who was already stalking out of the front door with a giggling Pansy on her heels. "It’s all swell. You get used to it after a bit. They are actually very close and are sweet girls. I’m sure they’ll do all they can to help. Unfortunately, I can’t answer any questions that they aren’t willing to. Sorry, Harry, my boy. I’m sure you wish to know what you are accepting assistance from. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to inform you next time."
"I understand, they’ve already helped. I hope we can get this settled as soon as possible. Thank you, for going out of your way to help as well. It means a lot to us." Harry extended his hand in offering. If these two could help then he’d owe the man a lot. If he could return the debt by finding out what happened to Luna as well then he’d know whatever it took to close that case as well.
"No problem, I just knew that Luna would have my hide if I didn’t offer some kind of assistance. A large heart, my dear girl has. We’ll be waiting to hear from you. Sorry that I can’t stay for dinner, Molly. I’ll just being going on my way."
Ron waited until Harry closed the door before turning to his sister. "I see what you mean. The man is completely barmy. He’s totally in denial."
"That doesn’t give you a reason to be rude, Ronald Weasley." Molly brought her mitt across his head. "That man has suffered. Losing a child is very painful and he only had one. Not to mention he’d already lost his wife."
"I’m just saying Mum. He talks like she’s still alive. I’m sure Luna would want him to help but not like she can hex him for it when she’s dead." Ron received another whack.
"He really hasn’t accepted that she’s gone. It’s kind of sad." Ginny didn’t want to accept it either but had forced herself too. Although, the smaller one had reminded her of her lost best friend. The soft manner of speaking had been so Luna. "Is dinner ready?"
