Chapter Four-
Before long a month had passed and August was reaching its end and, along with it, Harry's summer vacation. Over the summer his body had continued to change because of his inheritance. Along with the mark on his chest and his pointed ears; his teeth became slightly sharper, his eyes ended up healing and he could see without his glasses, he didn't shoot up, but he did gain a few inches in height and he now stood at about five foot nine. He now had his hair cut short and used gel to keep it tame by giving it a spiky look. The best of them all was that all of his senses heightened to a higher level, however he was able to control it and set them at a certain level so that they weren't overwhelming.
However some changes he wasn't too happy with. Like the one where he tended to defer to others when he thought of doing anything that might be even remotely dangerous. Like when he bought his first wild stallion that had to be trained to accept the bit and saddle. He had turned to Sirius and Remus to see if it was alright for him to be the one to do the training...but he wasn't sure if that was a creature thing, or if it was just his brain thinking before he jumped into something dangerous.
The only other bad change was that every so often when ever he went somewhere he would smell this enticing scent that made him want to roll over and just...give himself to whomever it belonged to, which made him think he might just be a submissive Cat Sidhe, but that didn't really bother him. He liked the idea of having someone that would protect him for a change and be someone he could turn to.
He was glad the changes weren't too drastic because he already knew if the changes were too much some stupid reporter would try claiming he was 'changing his looks as he became the next Dark Lord'. He was actually surprised there wasn't anything going around since he absolutely refused to hide his ears. He wasn't ashamed or afraid of his inheritance so he wasn't going to hide it to make others feel comfortable.
Shaking his head with a, Harry walked down Diagon Alley knowing the second that people started recognizing him. They might think they were whispering, but they were talking loud enough to let others hear them...although Harry suspected they were doing it on purpose. They seemed to want to be the one to alert the whole Alley that the man that destroyed the Dark Lord was here and they had seen him.
Ignoring the stares and gossip that started spreading down the entire Alley, Harry jogged up the steps and into Gringotts to take out some money for his current trip.
Heading over to one of the available Goblin's, Harry waited patiently to be acknowledged.
“What is your business here today?” The Goblin asked, without looking up from the papers in front of him.
“I'd like to withdraw some money from my account.” Harry said, pulling out his tan money bag as a tantalizing scent reached his nose. Wordlessly handing the Goblin the bag and his key, Harry looked around while he tried to sniff out where the sandalwood and cinnamon scent was coming from. As the Goblin got up to go and do the requested action, Harry hid a shiver as he felt eyes latch onto his back and run over his form.
As the scent drifted closer, Harry had to resist the urge to just spin around and sniff out where it was coming from. When it was directly behind him, a soft growl rumbled from the person behind him before it kept moving on. When it finally stopped he turned to the right and saw Draco Malfoy speaking with a Goblin before it left, heading the same way the Goblin that was helping him went.
“Hello, Malfoy. Long time no see.” Harry said, nodding towards the aristocrat.
“Potter. My mother has been rather hopeful that you would finally accept our invitation to come to the manor for one of her parties. She would love to thank you in person for freeing us from Lucius' hold.”
“She doesn't need to thank me for doing the right thing.” Harry said, feeling his face heat up a bit. “Anyone would have done it.”
“No not for a Malfoy. They all assumed that mother and I were willingly following that man and would have eagerly thrown us into Azkaban with Father if you had not spoken up for us.”
“Look I get that your mother wants to, but if you ask anyone they'll tell you it's what I do. I don't do it for the fame or the thanks I'll get, but because it's me. I can't go and allow your mother to have me at a party as thanks for doing not only the right thing, but what I'd do for anyone.”
Shaking his head with a small grin spread across his lips, Draco said, “Mother isn't going to be happy with that answer. She is going to eventually just show up when you least expect it and drag you to one.”
Smiling with a laugh, Harry said, “I look forward to the day that happens.”
Reaching out and running his hand down Harry's shoulder to the crook of his elbow, Draco said, “I look forward to seeing it as well. You and my mother both seem so set on what you want happening. I cannot wait to see who wins.”
Giving a quiet whine when Draco pulled away, Harry had to stop himself from leaning into the blond and nuzzling into him.
Turning around, Harry quickly gathered up his money bag from the Goblin that had just walked back over. Taking a few steps backwards away from Draco, he said, “It was nice seeing you again, Draco. Hopefully I'll see you when I'm back around from school.”
Shivering as the scent reached his nose again, Harry started to breath through his mouth so he didn't run off and insult Draco.”
“I think we'll see each other before that. It's no secret that you're going to Merlin's Academy of Medicine. My campus is directly across from yours at the opposite end of Students alley.”
“Well then we'll have to get together for lunch or something one evening after classes or on the weekend.”
“Oh yes we will.” Draco said, taking a deep breath in. “But if you'll excuse me I have to run off and finish up my errands and get home to mother. While you may be able to skip attending one of her parties I, unfortunately, cannot.”
Laughing, Harry said, “Poor Draco. At least you'll be able to plead a lot of homework while your at your Academy.”
Walking beside Harry towards the front door, Draco said, “There is that.”
When they stepped outside, Draco said, “It was nice seeing you again. If it is acceptable I shall owl you during the weekend after we start at our respective Academy and see if you wish you get lunch.”
Nodding, Harry said, “That sounds great. See you around, Draco.” Heading down the Alley, Harry took a few looks back towards the bank where, each time, Draco was still staring at him.
When he made it to the front of Scribbulus Writing Implements, which had only recently reopened after the Death Eaters had ransacked the store during the war for what it was still unknown, Harry took one last glance towards where Draco was watching him then stepped into the cool air of the store.
Heading straight to the area with quills he picked out a few and then grabbed a big case of the parchment he'd need for his assignments in his classes. For his notes he had picked up a few muggle notebooks so that he didn't have to worry about losing one of the pages of parchment.
Heading up to the counter he quickly paid, then exited the shop and headed towards the end of the alley where the new apparation wards ended. They had been put up after the war ended because it made the alley a little safer from attacks.
He was maybe about five feet from the edge of the wards when a sour, disgusting scent reached his nose and something latched onto his side.
Tensing up, Harry tried to pry the thing off of him, but it held on with persistance.
“Harry I've been waiting to see you all summer! You haven't been avoiding me again have you?” Ginny Weasley asked him with a pout on her lips.
“Of course not, Ginny. I've just been rather busy because I've had a lot of preparing to do for my first term at the University. I've had quite a few meetings to go to and counselors to meet with about my courses and ways to not overdo it when I start. Besides I thought you'd be preparing for your final year at Hogwarts.”
“I don't need to prepare. I'm the sister of one of your best friends and your girlfri...”
“Ginny no. I've told you again and again I' don't feel that way about you. You're like a sister to me. Besides, now that the war is over I'm sure you'll be able to find another person in your year that you'd like to be with.” Harry said, gently removing her grasp from his arm.
“I won't find anyone else. You're it for me, Harry.” She said with a creepy grin on her face. “We'll have the perfect family together.” She added as her eyes started to glaze over as she thought about it.
Seeing Molly making her way towards them with a slightly concerned look on her face, Harry moved further away from Ginny.
“Harry dear I'm sorry. Ginny spotted you and practically pushed through a large crowd of children doing their shopping before I could stop her.” She said in his ear as she gave him a hug.
“It's alright, Molly. There's only so much you can do. I just hope she finds someone that will make her forget about her crush on me.”
“So do I dear.” Molly said staring at her only daughter sadly. “I fear we may need to get her some help if she continues to think like this.”
“We can only hope for the best. I have high hopes that she'll get over it with me not being in the same school as her and the fact that the war is over. She won't have flashbacks of me being her hero since I won't be in the spotlight doing heroic things.”
Smiling sadly, Molly moved over to her daydreaming daughter and took a hold of her arm. “Come along, Ginny we need to finish up your shopping.” Moving to walk by Harry she said to him, “Don't be a stranger, dear. I know you'll be busy with your schooling, but drop by the Burrow even if its so I can feed you a decent meal. I know how students tend to eat.”
Nodding, Harry watched as the two women walked away, Ginny watching him and fluttering her eyelashes at him the whole time. He had a feeling the seperation wouldn't be enough to curb her attraction to him.
Continuing towards the edge of the wards he apparated away to his house so he could relax and kick his feet up with one of his books for school. Getting a head start on the reading for his classes wasn't a bad thing.
