Of course, she was welcomed by Molly and the family when she returned, but she had left a part of her heart with Lucius from that day on. A few weeks after this, she got an unmarked letter, written in an elegant hand.
When she opened it, all it said was, "Their memories are back. It wasn't the easiest task I've undertaken but I don't give up easily. They should come to see you as soon as they are in the country. P.S; I can't get you out of my mind. Started the research yet?"
Hermione couldn't believe it but sure enough, a day after the letter, which she knew was written by Lucius, arrived, her parents showed up at the Burrow. Hermione was so happy to see them again and have them recognise her to care about the surprised, stunned and questioning looks various members of the Weasley family were directing at her. Shortly after, she had moved back in with her parents but attended Wizarding University to get her degree. It was a year after her parents had returned to her that she went down Nocturn Alley again, hoping to run into Lucius.
She had committed significant time to research and had found out what their situation was. Almost as if expecting her, he was waiting in front of Borgin and Burkes. She had her cloak over her head but she saw him turn towards her, his hair blowing freely in the slight breeze as she started to run towards him. He held out his arms and she ran into them, nearly sobbing as the comforting sense of security and protection washed over her at his smell and touch. "I missed you", he whispered to her, his arms wrapped around her waist.
"I need you", she had whispered back and he had apparated them to his summer home without further question.
They had reacquainted themselves with each other during the week they spent there and they both made an unspoken vow to see each other every year for a week during this time. This continued, even after her marriage to Ron, which she had only agreed to because she felt it was what everyone expected of her. It had been after Rose was born that she told Lucius about their connection.
"It's a love bond", she had remarked as they both sat naked on his bed, him stroking her inner thigh.
"A what?" he had asked, smiling as she went into what he refered to as 'teaching mode'.
"A love bond is an ancient bond that few people find during their lifetimes. It's a bond that surpasses any unbreakable vow, including a marriage bond, which is why we haven't been able to stay away from each other".
"And…this will last for the rest of our lives?" Lucius had asked her, moving down to suckle her breast as he caressed the other roughly, the way he knew she liked.
"Mmm yeah", she had moaned, "It…doesn't go away. It's forever". "And what happens to those who have been…blessed with this bond?", he asked pulling her onto his lap as he nuzzled her neck.
"In all the cases I've read about, the bond seems to get stronger, until they can't stay away from each other. It's like imprinting. They're destined to be together".
"So", Lucius had whispered as he lay her down on the bed and pressed himself into her, "Even though you and your red-headed friend (he refused to acknowledge him as her husband) have a child, we will inevitably be together?" "Yes" she moaned as he slipped into her, "Merlin…yes we…eventually".
"And the children?" he asked her, needing reassurance.
"Lucius…I love them but…no matter how I try I can't love their father as much as you", she shrieked as his tool hit her spot powerfully.
"You would be able to leave the children for me?" he asked her once they had both climaxed.
"I would leave this world for you", she whispered back as he gave her a soft peck on the lips but she knew she wouldn't have to. All her research had shown that despite the struggles couples who had the love bond faced, they would always end up together. And the part of her that allowed her to completely trust Lucius, also told her that her children would not turn against her, even if she left their father.
She knew her and Lucius would be able to live with the children when the time came. And that was how, now years later, she found herself with Lucius on her dining room table, in the aftermath of making love. They hadn't been able to follow their set timetable for a few years now but she knew that with Rose at Hogwarts and Hugo at school, her and Lucius would have more time than ever to be together.
"I still think we should just take care of your husband. There are so many poisons that don't leave any trace on the body", Lucius had spent the last few years trying to convince her to kill her husband instead of causing him pain when she decided to leave him. "It's the more noble thing to do", he had insisted when she frowned at him.
She, however, knew that the true reason Lucius desired Ron's death was because he couldn't stand the thought of another man having touched her, even if she and Ron hadn't slept together since Hugo was born and even then, it was only because he had managed to get her drunk in celebration of Harry's birthday.
Lucius had confined his wife to a separate wing of his manor, refusing to even look at her. "She'll ask for a divorce soon. Believe me", he smirked at Hermione, once again reading her thoughts, although she had to admit it wasn't hard since her expression always resembled a grimace whenever she thought of the current Mrs Malfoy.
"I want to take you to visit the manor soon", he whispered in her ear as his hand covered her breast.
"Mmm no more Lucius", she laughed and pushed him until he relented and let her get up. "What if Hugo gets home? Besides, you have to help me decide what to wear for my upcoming job interview". She was confident she would get the job with her qualifications, as was Lucius, who had been the one to recommend the job to her.
"You cannot waste your skills cooking for that imbecile any longer", he had thundered at her last week, "The children are in school now. You need to do what you want with your life". He had convinced her to apply for the job and, although she had been scared of Ron's reaction to the news, Lucius' comments had awoken a long dormant spark of independence in her.
She brought herself back to the present as she felt Lucius' arm creeping around her waist, while she stood in front of her closet, looking at her clothes.
"Lucius", she growled in mock anger as his lips began to press kisses to the nape of her neck, "Stop it. We have work to do".
"Work can wait", he insisted as he led her to the bed. Hermione knew she should feel guilty. She had been having an affair for the entirety of her married life with a man her friends and family would probably condone and she was about to let him make love to her in the bed she and Ron shared.
But as Lucius began to kiss between her legs, the strength of her desire for him drove out all thoughts of guilt. "Oh Merlin", she moaned as he dipped his tongue into her wet opening before sucking on her swollen clit. She cried out his name as he took her higher into the realms of pleasure as only he could do. Her hands wound through his hair, pressing him closer to her core as he pushed her thighs further apart so she was more open to him. Hermione's mouth went slack as she shuddered her release into his mouth and watched him drink her down.
He was still lapping at her pulsing core when she applied just enough pressure on his scalp to make him look up at her. "You're insatiable", she murmured fondly laying back on the bed as he climbed up to join her.
"And you enjoy every minute of it", he teased her, kneading her breast with one hand as he kissed her deeply, not wanting this moment to end.
"And I'm being selfish", Hermione panted out when he allowed her to pull back for breath, "You haven't got your release yet".
She nodded pointedly to his erect member as he pulled her closer to place warm kisses down her collarbone. "I can wait", he murmured but Hermione had already formulated a plan in her head that she couldn't wait to carry out.
She remembered the last time he had let her get her way with him during their sexual encounters. It was a few years back. She had left Rose and Hugo with Ron, claiming that she had a few items to buy in town and then wanted to visit her parents for the day. The trick worked like a charm; she knew Ron hated shopping and believed it was a 'woman's job' and Hugo took after his father.
Rose had offered but Hermione had told her to stay with the boys and make sure they didn't destroy the house while she was gone. Rose had smiled sweetly, proud to be given a chance to show her responsibility. She reminded Hermione of herself so much, that sometimes she was scared for her and the situations she might end up in.
She had pushed the thought out of her mind as she met Lucius at their meeting place and got a smouldering kiss from him. "How long ago did I last have you to myself?" he had whispered to her once they were in his summer house.
"A couple of months ago", she had murmured back, delirious with need but wanting to pass on her important information, "I think the bond's getting stronger Lucius. We can't seem to stay away from each other as much as we used to". Lucius murmured his agreement, a small frown on his face as he brushed her hair out of her face with his hand. "Your face haunts my dreams…more than ever. I think Naricissa is starting to get suspicious of my repeated, long showers".
Hermione had blushed as he divulged this information to her, "You don't…" she gasped, too embarrassed to finish the sentence as she imagined him taking care of his needs in the shower.
Lucius chuckled. "Always thinking of you", he murmured back placing a gentle kiss on both her red cheeks before possessively wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her in for a deep kiss. That had been the first time he had allowed her to take him into her mouth.
Until then he had always brushed this desire of her's off, saying, "It's hard enough trying to control my darker nature around you Hermione. Don't tempt me into losing control". But on this day, her curiosity about his 'darker' side had got the better of her and finally, unable to stand her pleading and beseeching eyes, he had relented. "You'll regret this", he had warned her as she got down to her knees before him but they could both hear the raw desire in his voice.
He groaned when she touched his erect tool, squeezing it gently as she started to kiss and lick the tip.
Hermione brought herself back to the present as Lucius' warm mouth started to gently suck on her breast. She moaned out his name, her hands gripping his shoulders as he gave just enough suction to have her melt into a puddle of desire. That memory had made her even wetter. It had ended with her being tied to the bed as he had her wicked way with her, his predicted dark nature coming into play.
She had been surprised at how much she loved it and even Lucius was worried. "It's like you were made for me", he had whispered against her neck when she had confessed, "When we duelled against each other during the war, your non-verbal spell reminded me of another powerful woman". Hermione had thought back to the snake she had produced, her first successful use of non-verbal magic. "It's not an easy spell to conquer, especially non-verbally. I myself have never mastered it…neither had the Dark Lord but it was one of her most famed spells", Lucius continued to whisper, his arms tightening around her as she pondered over his words.
"Who did I remind you of?" she asked quietly, having a premonition that she would not like his answer.
"Bellatrix Lestrange", he had answered, equally quietly and pulled back slightly at her gasp, looking into her wide, amber eyes.
"I…you think I'm like…", Hermione stuttered, shivering at the thought of being compared to one of the darkest, most notorious witches in Voldemort's team.
"I think you're magic has the same capabilities as hers did", he soothed her, rubbing her arms to stop her from shivering, "Hermione, you are who you choose to be. She was an exceptionally talented witch, quite like you in that respect but she chose to follow the Dark Lord. She craved for nothing more than his approval so she excelled at the Dark Arts. You don't have to follow the same path", he kissed her gently, pushing a tendril of hair out of her eyes and behind her ear, as he gazed at her.
His respect for her magical talent was apparent and she automatically compared it to Ron's disregard for her skills. But there was another, more pressing matter that worried her. Lucius' slightly pale face told her he had guessed what it was. "I crave for your approval", she whispered, not daring to raise her voice, as if the walls of the house had ears. Lucius kissed her slowly before resting his head in the crook of her neck,
"Then we should both be glad that I am not planning on becoming the next Dark Lord", he murmured to her, as he moulded his body to hers, preparing for sleep and Hermione had thought with a racing heart of how she would leave everything she had stood for during the Dark Lord's reign if Lucius ever took his place. She couldn't live without him and she knew, as she felt the faint stirring of magic between them as her mind recognised her wishes, that the love bond between them could not be broken by anyone, not even their respective families.
She drifted off to sleep with that thought, a small smile curving the corners of her lips and, if the old head of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had been around to see them, he would have been struck with fear as he recalled a time, 60 years ago when he had accidentally stumbled into the Room of Requirements to find a young Tom Riddle (a graduate of the school) with his body curved possessively around a younger Bellatrix, as she smiled in satisfaction, forming the beginning of a partnership that would conquer the wizarding world for decades to come.
If Dumbledore had witnessed the young Gryffindor tenderly stroking Lucius' hair as she drifted off to sleep, his arms tightening around her protectively, he would have done everything in his power to separate them. Because, he would have learnt from the first time he smiled down on such a couple not realising the gravity of the situation, that powerful, clever witches and skilled charming wizards were not all that they seemed or intended to be!
