I apologize for the short chapter this time. The next chapter will more than make up for it =D

Hermione lay down on her dormitory bed for the last time.

In all honesty, this bed hadn't seen much use in the last six months, ever since Severus had insisted she spend the entire night with him and she doubted she would get a chance to sleep here tonight. Not that she was complaining!

She had had a productive evening, in her opinion.

Severus had begrudgingly let her go to visit Hagrid one last time and Harry had come with her. He was still getting used to the idea of her and Snape so they hadn't really talked about it but Hagrid was completely happy with Hermione's decision.

"Always knew yer both would be a good match! Brains an' all. Let's celebrate!" and they had spent an hour drinking hot tea and eating what mildly resembled cookies.

Ron hadn't joined them and, according to Harry, was sulking on the Quidditch pitch. Hermione decided to give him time and space to think. Whatever he decided, she would still be with Severus so she pushed this issue to the back of her mind.

Before she could return to Severus, Ginny and Luna had caught her and dragged her to Hogsmeade so she could shop for a dress to wear to tonight's ball. She hadn't been able to wheedle her way out of buying the blue, form-fitting, sequinned gown which they both said looked "stunning" on her.

She had spent a few hours perusing other shops to find matching shoes and of course, help Ginny and Luna find their dresses. Luna had chosen a pale yellow off-the-shoulder dress that lay just below her knees, giving her a casual yet beautiful look.

Ginny had gone for a more daring (and revealing) black halter-neck dress that showed off her legs among other things.

Hermione was glad when they finally decided to head back to Hogwarts to get ready. What she hadn't counted on was being rushed to her dormitory so they could help each other with their hair for the evening.

Hermione was watching as Ginny brushed Luna's hair into an elegant bun with wisps of hair framing her pale face. All Hermione could think about was Severus. He had told her he would be there since McGonagall had allowed him to attend and she hoped he would dance with her.

He was usually shy when it came to public displays of affection but then…the kiss this afternoon had made her rethink that concept. He was very possessive, one of the traits she couldn't help but like about him, and she was hoping to use this to her advantage to tempt him into a dance.

"Your turn Hermione", Ginny's voice brought her back to the present and she quickly got up and took Luna's place. She wanted Severus to be dazzled!

Severus had dressed himself in black, as always. The only difference being he had traded his normal robes for a formal set which had a Slytherin-green collar. His hair was well-brushed and hung loosely around his face, partially covering his eyes and giving him a dangerous look.

He smirked at his reflection in the mirror. He was quite pleased with the overall effect and he knew Hermione would be too. He hadn't seen her in a few hours and he already missed her.

How was he going to survive months without her when she headed off to University?

They had already decided she would stay with him in the holidays although, of course, she would have to visit her parents and friends as well. Severus was deep in thought when the knock sounded at his door.

Hermione?

He wasn't expecting any visitors and these were his private chambers. Severus checked his reflection one last time before walking out to open the large, wooden door. He was surprised, although his face didn't show it, to see the tall red-headed Weasley ("which one?" I hear you say!) glaring at him.

"Mr Weasley?" he asked, his tone low and the warning clear. He was most definitely not welcome into his chambers!

"Professor", despite his angry look, Ron's tone was calm, "I want to talk to you".

"About what, may I ask?" Severus retorted, his eyes assessing the boy in front of him. He used to date Hermione…or at least, that's what he'd heard.

Severus found it hard to repress the sudden wave of possessiveness that surged through him at this thought. Hermione was his! His alone!

"About Hermione, Professor", Ron answered, his eyes heating in anger, "And why you shouldn't marry her".

Hermione was looking at her reflection, not believing her eyes. Ginny and Luna had completely transformed her hair into…she couldn't even describe it. It fell in loose waves down her back, like a waterfall and it was not in the least frizzy!

"You two are magicians!" Hermione whispered, turning around when she heard their giggles.

"I don't know about that Hermione but we are witches!" Ginny smirked back at her and she laughed.

She was glad she had bought the dress now. It looked perfect on her and she hoped Severus would like it. Then again, he seemed to like her even in her baggy school robes so she doubted that was an issue.

"Ready?" Luna asked, her voice excited.

At Ginny's nod, all three girls left the dormitory, making their way to the Great Hall where the dance would be held.

Hermione was in for an unforgettable night!
