AN:I recently discovered that I am very close to the last chapter of my Tommy: Son of a Dark Lord story. So, I'll be working on some new story ideas. Hope you like them, too.
n: Consider the presents arriving before the bad guys come on the scene. Yes, that would be detrimental, but only if their little secret gets out. Now, no spoiling it for everybody else. Chris and Charlie have plenty of other problems to deal with, and this isn't going to be easy, for either of them. Thanks for the review. You're a big help.Anonymous: Empty shells. Thanks for pointing out the lack of explanation.Chapter Four: Voice in My headThe party was in full swing, but as Charlie hadn't seen Chris for three hours, he was not amused. He was now being entertained by the seventh of his suitors, a young man named Mumba, who thought everything was funny, especially when it came out of his own mouth."And they said. . . they said . . . it was so funny . . . they said, don't go in there. Hahahaha."
"Very funny, Mumba. How did they find the cave, if it's invisible?"
“He's kinda cute, when he starts to think real hard.”
"Oh. I don't know." Mumba stared at his hands, as if the answer would be found there. His friends had told him the story, and it was so believable, he had just passed it on. Now, he began to feel a bit foolish. "Do you want another cup of Moonstone Drink?"
"That would be nice. Thank you, Mumba." and Charlie handed him the empty cup and watched him weave into the crowds. The boy was all right, if a little gullible, but a true and loyal friend if the others would treat him better.
Before Mumba returned, Charlie made a quick dash to the little wizard's room, for some privacy, as well as bladder relief. Those Moonstone Drinks went right through you. Once in the stall, since standing at a urinal would hardly afford him much privacy, Charlie completed his business and leaned against the door, hoping that no one tried to hurry him up.
The loo was quiet, unnaturally so, and Charlie peeked through the crack in the door to find it nearly deserted. Only one man stood near the sink, and even from his back, Charlie knew exactly who it was. The door opened and another man entered, stepped up to the urinal, shifting around to uncover his prick. While he peed, he spoke to Kenzei.
“They are secure. There's no way Manchrissai or Altunni are coming to dis party.”
“He's talking about your mate, Charlie.”
“You're certain? You've failed me before, Lorzu. I will not be outdone by my cousins, again.”
“They can't get out. We put spells up all around the hut. There's three of my top warriors watching. And if they get past them, They'll have to go through dragon territory without a wand. I won't fail you my prince.”
“We shall see. Manchirssai is a very resourceful man. He and Tunni are princes of Drow, after all. You have to be twenty steps ahead, just to match them to the finish. I have to go. It is nearly time for that fool Mumba to pass off the prize to Tunni. I will be there to take his place, when he fails to show up.”
“We need to help him. Don't just sit there.”
Kenzei left and the other man washed his hands before following. Charlie waited until they should be far from the door, and after two others entered, and emerged from his hiding place. His hands were shaking as he rubbed them with the foaming beads that were used as soap, and rinsed the dirt away.
He had to find Chris.
As quietly as possible, Charlie snuck to the back wall of the assembly room, skirting the outside edges and making for the exit. Before he reached it, Mumba caught up with him, two large cups of the fruity juice in his hands.
“Here's hoping he doesn't pick now to start questioning things.”
“Stop.” Charlie mumbled to himself as the other man reached him.
“Charlie Weasley, there you are. It is almost the end of my time with you and I was afraid I had lost you.” the young man said and Charlie graced him with a weak smile.
“I'm sorry, Mumba. I am not feeling well. Could you walk me back to my hut, so I can lie down?”
“It would be my pleasure, Charlie Weasley.”
As they walked, Charlie felt bad about lying to the man and wanted to make it up to him, so before they arrived where he was assigned a bed, he turned without thinking and said to the other, “You could just call me Charlie, you know.”
“That would be presumptuous.” Mumba retorted.
“Not if I give you permission.”
“Oh. Oh, yes. That is true. Thank you, Charlie.”
“Here we are. Thank you for your escort. Perhaps, if you don't mind, you should go back and give my apologies to the other candidates. I'm sure it's just floo-lag. That and the warm climate are enough to sap my strength.”
“I will do as you ask. Sleep well, Charlie.” Mumba turned and jogged off, retracing their path. Charlie watched until he was out of sight.
“Not a bad ass on that one.”
“What?” Charlie looked around, but no one was near. He frowned, shrugged and went inside, moving things around and gathering the things he might need. While he did this, Zuri flew in and landed on his shoulder. “Ah, there you are. Any chance that mate of yours might know where my Chris is?”
“Dashing is with Chris Drow.”
“Yeah, but where are they?”
“Zuri has been here.”
“Okay, so how can we find them?”
“Zuri would call, but there is a danger.”
“What danger?”
“Au Wera call may attract monsters.”
“Great. Just what we need. Okay, first. I heard some men say that he was in a hut, across the dragon country. Any ideas the best way to get there?”
“Zuri knows the path. She will show dragon man.”
“We need to hurry.”
Charlie nodded, shoved his wand into his belt and adjust the pack he had filled with some things for the trip. They headed west, toward the open plains. Charlie shifted his pack, listening to the slosh of the water filled bottle he had made sure to bring and thinking about the odd thoughts that had come to him during this night.
Chris woke with his head pounding and his arms stiff. He tried to rise, but found himself bound around the ankles, thighs and arms. He had been dropped, he could tell by the bruising that was rising on one side of his body, onto a straw mat in a corner of a small hut. His cousin Altonni was nearby. He shifted around until he managed to sit up and groaned in pain while doing so.“Good, you finally woke. I was beginning to think you dead. It would amount to treason, if they had killed you, but even if it would mean their exile, I do not wish to lose you so soon, Manchrissai.”
“I'm not that easy to kill. Where are we?”
“I am not sure. This hut is not new. There is sand everywhere. So, I think we are far from home. There are men outside.”
Chris shifted again, refusing to allow himself the sounds that should accompany his pain. He managed to get to his knees, move to the wall and peek out through the window. It was as his cousin had said. There were at least three men guarding them, but from what?
Something nagged at Chris' mind, but with the blow that had subdued him, he was having trouble concentrating. He turned around and flexed his shoulders, rolling his thumb under and squeezing his hand as tightly as possible. It took some time, but soon he had slid one hand out and was working the knots out of the other ropes. When he was free, he scurried over and untied Altonni. They took some time to regain the feeling in feet and fingers, then knelt together under the window, watching the guards as they moved around outside.
“How we get outta here?” Tonni asked.
“I don't know. We need to get past the guards. Do you know them?”
“Not well. That one has been seen with Kenzei. I think the prince takes him to his bed when the King is not watching.”
“That tells us who has betrayed us. We need to know why, though.”
“Many believe that you would do such a thing, to take his place as future king, but I know you do not wish for the rule.” Tonni patted Chris on the back in a companionable way. “You are clear like the swift river, my cousin.”
“I cannot hide from you, Tonni.” Chris shifted his shoulder again, trying to loosen cramped muscles, when he realized what was missing. “Dashing, Msaidizi! Where are you little helpers?”
“Who do you call?” Tonni watched him and frowned.
“You would not believe me, cousin. Besides, they are not here. I wonder what has happened to them.”
Charlie and Zuri were descending from a rocky hill when they found the two little males, hiding behind a shrub and fighting to draw breaths. Charlie scooped them up and offered them a cup filled with water. Dashing drank deeply while the other cooed and nuzzled with the queen Au Wera.“People men. They came and struck the Chris-Drow. They took him to the dragon plains. He is far. We tried to come to Zuri, to bring her to Chris-Drow. The black ...” and Dashing lost consciousness in Charlie's arms.
“The black dragon?” he looked up as he moved the cup closer to the other male.
“The People men call him the Stone Dragon. Him burned by female and sent away. Him very bad dragon.” Zuri told him while her other mate drank from his hands. “Msaidizi has never seen before, but Dashing . . .”
“Dashing's whole family was killed.”
“Worse.” she said but all he got after that was silence.
“We need to get to Chris, but we can't take them.”
“They will come. Can ride on shoulder while Zuri flies.” she pushed at Msaidizi while Charlie stood with Dashing in his arms. “Zuri will not leave mates here.”
“She's right.”
When he looked around, he realized this was a desolate area and the two males would not survive long. He turned to the direction she pointed and began to walk, one lizard on his shoulders, one in his arms and one flying over his head to lead the way.
