Hermione was standing on the balcony in the mid-afternoon sunlight. It never seemed to rain in Asguard and she was surprised to find she missed that, it was nice to see the weather mirroring her mood on days like these. She questioned Thor about it once and he told her that the goddess that helped change the weather in Asguard was now dead. It was a few days later that Sif told her that Frigga used to help with the weather and that no one else had shown the ability since her death. Hermione wanted to apologize for asking Thor about that but didn’t know how to form the right words so she left it alone. She went back to her room and sat down in the middle of her bed. She closed her eyes and let out a deep breath before sucking another in and relaxing inch by inch, when she was completely still and calm she expanded her mind. She picture Loki in her mind, thought about the way he laughed, talked, smiled, smelled and how his mannerisms were and sure enough after searching for him for about a minute she finally felt his presence. It was his own magic that he had taught to her when Odin had been on the war path to kill her. When they concentrated hard enough on the person that they wanted to look in on (in their case it was almost always the other) they could connect.
She could feel his fear, worry, irritation and most of all his determination. Whatever had caught his interest had all of his determination and he was planning to do something that both terrified and elated him. She smiled as he went through his memories of Lidia, she was happy with him and she was also putting him through the ringer it was kind of amusing. She was suddenly aware that he was concentrating on her now and their minds brushed, she felt his surprise at the contact. Their minds caressed the way their bodies and hands hadn’t for over a year, he showed her images of them together, his kissing her, holding her and whispering sweet words in her ear. She pulled away from him when her emotions overtook her concentration and then she sat on her bed and stared blankly at the comforter.
*Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you*
Emotions were clogging her throat and she could feel tears burning behind her eyelids. Her bottom lip was trembling without her permission and she was unaware that she had started rocking herself back and forth. It was something that she had done since she was little, a way to make herself feel better and more secure...she hadn’t done it since she had been locked in Malfoy manor and was sure that she would die. She wished that Thor wasn’t out helping the townsfolk clean up a house that had burned nearly to the ground three nights ago. She was wishing that Sif wasn’t in a meeting with the ladies of the palace talking about whatever it was that they spoke about for hours. She would have given anything to not be alone at that moment, she had cried so many times already that it would have been nice to just...not. To be happy and laughing and to not know that the man she loved was not at her side at that moment and that she was slowly dying from loneliness.
Hermione curled in on herself, curling in to a ball and hugged her knees to her chest, breathing heavily she thought back to the dream she had the night before. A woman in a white dress in the Asguardian fashion stood before her, she was beautiful with long dirty blond hair that was curled and twisted about her head in a regal fashion. Seeing Hermione seemed to make her happy, her smile was wide and she shook her head in wonder and her dark purple eyes filled with tears. She had held her hands out to Hermione and she had taken them, the woman pulled her closer and closer until her mouth was almost against Hermione’s ear she whispered “Be patient with him” and kissed Hermione’s forehead, then she woke up. She was in the bed she had been in the night before and there was no one else in the room with her but she had the feeling that someone was with her right then and strangely enough the feeling was not uncomfortable or unwanted. Slowly, a solitary tear made its way down her cheek followed by another and another until she was a sobbing, lonely mess.
*And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl*
Standing next to a rubble mess, Thor watched as the warriors that he now ruled over cleaned up what had once been a home. The family was thanking him profusely, the wife was making him food and anything else that he could want in the neighbors’ house. The children were playing with stuff they found and the little girl was pretending to be a princess locked away in a tower that he had made for her out of some old materials he had found but couldn’t use. He watched the two brothers run around one was yelling and the other was laughing and holding something away from the other. He remembered that game all too well in fact when they were younger kids (around the same age as the ones he was watching) Loki with his taller form had succeeded in keep things away from Thor however the older he got the harder it was for Loki to keep things away from him.
He sighed and watched the kids play for a minute longer, he couldn’t lie to himself anymore he missed his brother too much to say. The man, that was currently living in the wizarding world, had been his best friend for many years, the only person to not judge him, even when they were fighting and he was trying to kill him he was always honest and always told him the truth and not what he thought he wanted to hear. A drop of water splashed on to Thor’s face surprising him and making him raise his eyes to the sky, another drop fell, followed by another and another until it was pouring. Everyone around them stopped moving and looked to the sky, it hadn’t rained since his mothers death as she had been the person to make it change seasons, to go from sun to rain to even snow but not anymore. At least that’s what he had thought since she died but for some reason it has started again.
*Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere, I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you*
“Thank you” Loki said to Ginny and Harry “I will be home later tonight, hopefully with Hermione”
“Remember what I said” Ginny told him “Tell her the truth about how you feel about her and then listen to her. Don’t judge her, don’t fight with her and dear merlin be nice and sweet and however you were to trap her the first time”
“Trap her?” He repeated “Is that what she said?”
“It doesn’t matter what she said” Harry said, giving his wife a stern look “You love her and she loves you so go to Asguard and get her damn it...your wasting time!”
“I’ll deal with your attitude later” Loki raised his eyebrow at the other man.
“Good luck” Ginny whispered as he walked out the door.
Loki entered Asguard and smiled at Heimdall, it was a forced smile but it did reach his eyes as he realized that he did miss this place. A little. He walked out of the building and to the bridge, he raised his head up when he felt the rain splashing down on him. They must have found a replacement for his mother, the thought bothered him and made his heart hurt. He quickened his pace and was entering the castle before he was ready to and he stopped just inside the doorway. He waited until he was sure that no one else was there and then he leaned heavily against the wall and shook the rain from his hair. Half the journey was done he was in Asguard and at the castle now he just needed to find Hermione, kill Thor if he has touched her get her home where she belongs. It was hard but he knew that today he would have to just let go and tell her everything that he felt no matter what. He sighed and slowly made his way up the stairs towards the guest rooms only worrying a little that she may be in Thor’s rooms but he was hoping for the best.*And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye*
Hermione sat on her bed, the tears had stopped sliding down her cheeks but she could now see that it was pouring outside. She had no clue what was happening but it didn’t matter to her anymore, nothing did anymore she wanted nothing more than to go to sleep and not wake up. She heard footsteps and then doors opening and closing again she thought that maybe there was a maid cleaning the other rooms. She leaned back and watched the door ready to tell the woman to leave her alone for the day but when the door opened it wasn’t a maid but the man that she was in love that stood looking back at her. Her heart not only started beating too hard but it also seemed to be breaking at the sight of him. His skin, which was normally pale, was sallow now, his eyes weren’t bright with a cunning thought or the newest prank they were dull and lifeless. His eyes looked all over the room until they landed on the bed where she was lying on her side staring at him with wide, tear-filled eyes. He was shocked to see how in shape she looked, in shape but thin still, she remained the most beautiful person he had ever seen in his whole life.
*Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere, I would have followed you
Oh-oh-oh-oh say something, I'm giving up on you*
His brow furrowed and he walked towards her with his hand outstretched. There were so many things to say to her and yet nothing would come out of his mouth, in fact at the sight of her his mouth had gone dry and his hands started to shake. He loved her, he loved her...so why was it so hard to tell her something, say something that would make her smile or reassure her that he wanted her still? She sat up and looked at him evenly, she licked her lips and smiled nervously at him as if she were experiencing the same problems he was.
“Say something” She whispered “Please...”
“I...” He trailed off, he couldn’t understand why it was so hard to say something to her “I...”
“Please” She whispered kneeling up on the bed and looking at him imploringly.
“I need you” He said brokenly “I...need you” As the words fell from his lips her heart swelled with hope and the clouds outside broke apart and sunshine peeked through.
*Say something, I'm giving up on you
