Veda walked down the large stone steps into the entryway of the Counsel Hall. The massive circular limestone structure was underground, it looked like a stone disk surrounded by stairs.
Entering through the area where citizens sat to watch and ask questions if need be, Veda quickly made her way down to the Counsel mediator, who kept track of topics and decisions. Speaking quietly to him, Veda stepped back to wait for permission to address the Elders.
The center of the massive meeting room held a large magical fire to keep Vipers in attendance warm during long discussions. Surrounding the fire sat the twenty-six Elders who made decisions for the Viperidae and their homeland, Lemuria.
The Elders were the most powerful of the vipers, were then elected by the people and underwent an ancient ritual created by the Goddess, Manasā, thus proving their ability to lead the Viperidae.
The age range was vast, the youngest Elder being 29-years-old and the oldest being nearly 400-years-old. They were the best of the Vipers, coming from many different walks of life, professions, and were a mixture of Subs and Doms.
After noting the Elders decision on the remodeling of the capitals square, the mediator motioned to Veda.
Veda bowed respectfully to the Elders before explaining the situation to the Counsel.
“Mating Wraith... I haven’t heard of a Viper having those since I was a youngling,” an elderly Viper lady gasped.
“Do any of you know what type of illness may have befallen young Hadrian?” Veda inquired, wishing to answer Lord Black as quickly as possible.
“He has Heart Break,” Lord Asla, the eldest in the room spoke.
“But, he has yet to mate, Grand Elder.” Veda looked towards the man in confusion.
“He has met and bonded, in a way, with his mate,” Lord Asla replied. “The same would happen if he had met his mate in person and his mate had perished before a full mating could take place.”
Veda quickly jotted down the information, “I can get him the potion for Heart Break, that however, is only a temporary solution. He may begin to resist it before his mating trip in the spring.”
“He will have to make a trip here before then. A great many Viperidae are here for the summer and more return every weekend for the summer festivals, he may find his mate in the few weeks before his return to school,” Lord Voldemort spoke, his deep voice ringing through the hall.
His fellow Elders nodded along with his recommendation.
“Yes, give the young man a few doses of the potion and have him come to Lemuria before this weekend’s festivities begin. Many will be here this weekend; perhaps he will find his mate and no longer need the potion. He and his mate will work out how to deal with his schooling.” Lady Della concluded, all the Elders agreeing.
“Thank you for your time and wisdom. I shall see to the potion and his travel. Good evening.” Veda bowed before turning to leave.
When Pip appeared in Harry’s room to announce that the Viper lady was on call for him, Sirius nearly wept with relief.
After a short discussion, Sirius quickly went to his lab to brew the potion Hadrian needed. Thankfully, it was a short brew and by the end of the day, it was finished.
Magically feeding it to his godson, Sirius waited to see if it would work.
“Sirius, what time is it?” Hadrian asked, somehow exhausted despite barely moving all day.
“Pup, you have no idea how good it is to hear your voice.” Sirius couldn’t stop the tears from filling his eyes as he realized the potion had worked.
“Why are you crying, Sirius?” Hadrian tried to sit up, alarmed at his godfathers tears.
“I thought I might lose you. I don’t believe I would have survived that, Pup.” Sirius wiped away the tears off his cheeks before grabbing his wand to check Harry over. “Your energy is still depleted, but a meal and good nights rests should fix that right up. I will have another potion for you in the morning.”
Too tired to question his emotional godfather, Harry nodded and a few moments later Pip appeared with a tray of broth and bread for her young master.
After he ate, Hadrian fell asleep but Sirius couldn’t leave him just yet.
He sat by godsons bed for almost an hour, just staring at Hadrian, trying his best to calm his mind and heart. Sirius’ world had been centered on his godson for sixteen years, just the mere thought of something happening to him made Sirius’ heart drop and his throat constrict.
Leaving Harrys room, Sirius went to his own suite in desperate need of sleep.
However, after lying down, sleep evaded him.
The ring on his left pointer finger tingled, his body wanting him to remove the plain black band. Realizing he couldn’t fight it, Sirius quickly dressed and called for Pip.
“If anything changes with Hadrian, contact Kreacher at Grimmauld Place. I will be back by morning,” Sirius informed the elf before disapparating with a loud crack to his family home.
Stepping up to the second floor, he called for the homes House Elf, Kreacher, and informing him that Pip may call for Sirius and that Kreacher must let Sirius know immediately.
Pip would not be able to get to Sirius once the wards on his haven were activated. Only Kreacher had been trained, by Sirius’ mother, on how to serve Sirius while he was within the small study she had painstakingly warded for his protection.
He couldn’t help the sigh that escaped him and the feeling of guilt that washed over him when he thought of everything he had put his mother through.
The study walls were floor to ceiling bookshelves, except for one small section which had a built in desk. Sirius stepped into the room and moved to the plush chair in the far right corner after making sure the door was closed.
Sitting down, Sirius twirled the ring on his finger a few times before whispering the incantation to activate the rooms’ wards.
Runes etched across the entire room glowed, signaling that they were active and it was now safe.
Relaxing back into the chair, Sirius removed the ring.
The air around him seemed to shift and move, the very light around him refracting.
His hair smoothed out; becoming a black so dark that light seemed to be sucked into it.
His already sharp, aristocratic features sharpened more and his ears came to a point.
His once grey/blue eyes opened, revealing swirling silver irises and slightly elongated pupils.
Stretching his lean body out, Sirius sighed, relieved to be free of his confines, if only for a moment. Closing his eyes, he rested back against the comfy chair – until a delectable scent hit his nose.
His hypnotizing eyes scanned the room, his teeth clenched as he let out a growl, his sharp canines catching the light.
A book on the history of creature law sat on the shelf by the door, where books were left to be returned to their proper spot.
Picking up the book, Sirius held it up to his nose and took a deep breath. He could smell his godson, which made sense, since Hadrian was the only other person who could have removed the book from this study. But, that delicious scent wasn’t his godson; it could only be the person Harry had loaned the book out to.
Turning the book, Sirius opened it, letting his fingers ruffle the pages, the sweet floral scent exploding through the room.
Dropping the book back on the shelf, Sirius sat back down.
Running his hands through his hair, he realized how much trouble he was in. He’d found his mate, a human, but he could never pursue her and bond with her for life to likes of him.
“So, you are feeling better, right?” Draco asked the still pale and tired looking Harry.
“Yes, the potion drains me a bit after first taking it, but I will recover shortly,” Hadrian explained, resting on the settee in Draco’s rooms while the young Veela got ready for the annual Veela Mating Feast.
“Good! My best friend is not allowed to be ill!” Draco announce arrogantly, causing Harry to chuckle, before turning back to his reflection. “Do you think the color is too much?”
The blond wore pale, nearly white, blue dress robes over white trousers, a white dress shirt and a light blue waistcoat. The ensemble made his hair and eyes nearly glow, turning him into a beacon.
“It is as lovely as it ostentatious, you will stand out like a candle in the pitch darkness... it is completely you,” Harry answered, truthfully and teasingly.
“Wonderful! I want my mate to able to see from anywhere in the room, for him to nearly choke to death when he sees me and for him to fall over himself trying to get to me before anyone else can,” the young Veela answered, with a little smirk on his face.
“Wait!” Hadrian sat up, giving his friend a confused look. “I know I’ve been out of it for a few days, but just four days ago you hated all things Sub and now you can’t wait to meet your Dom?”
Moving away from the floor length mirror he had been using to admire himself, Draco sat down next to Harry.
“I did what you said to do; I spoke with my mother about being a sub and all it entails... after apologizing for being a little asshole first.”
“A little asshole?” Hadrian couldn’t help himself but to inquire.
“Shove it, Scarhead!” Draco bumped Harry with his shoulder, causing the brunet to laugh. “Anyway, she made me realize that I am better suited to be a Sub.”
“Oh really, and how are you better suited to be a Sub?” Harry cast a critical eye over his friend, trying to come up with what would have changed Draco so dramatically in such a short amount of time. Of, course, if anyone could have, it would have been Narcissa.
“Well, as the Sub in the relationship, I will be in charge of social events and the like, you know how I excel with planning those and I have always helped mother with them. I don’t have to be the one in charge all the time. While I do enjoy being the center of attention, having everyone always nagging me to run everything and fix everything drives me insane and makes me a giant ball of anxiety.”
Hadrian had to agree with that, while Draco always enjoyed having all their friends focused on him, they also liked to act as it the blond was the one they should go to about everything and sometimes it could nearly unhinge the young man when they wanted him to help them with all their problems.
“It also helps that I get to be the one focused on.” Draco paused, seeming to be search for the right word.
“Hold on! You mean to tell me, that you are now okay with being a Sub, because you get to be the one in the relationship that is spoiled rotten?” Hadrian gapped at his friend in shock as what the Veela meant settled into Harry’s brain.
Draco blushed slightly and opened his mouth to retort, but quickly closed it when he realized that Harry had hit the nail on its head.
“You pampered little shit.” Harry barely finished before he started laughing so hard he fell off the settee.
“I hate you, sometimes, Potter.” Draco stared blandly at his friend, a deeper blush covering his face.
“What is going on in here?” Narcissa asked, standing in the doorway, looking between the embarrassed Draco and Hadrian, who was still on the floor in hysterics.
“Hadrian is being mean to me, Mother!” Draco stood up from the settee with a flourish, quickly making his way over to his mother, who he stood next to and linked arms with.
This merely caused Harry to laugh harder.
“I can’t believe you ever thought you were a Dom, Draco!” Harry sat up on the ground, wiping away the tears from his face. “You are the neediest person I know! I do hope your Dom likes having an attention seeking brat for his mate.”
Draco glared at his best friend and turned to his mother for support, only to find her stifling a giggle and a smile.
“Mum!” Draco was absolutely scandalized.
“Oh, my love, you have always been needy and in search of someone else to give you support through things. If we hadn’t been so hung up on what is traditional in the Malfoy family, we would have seen that you were a Sub long ago.” Narcissa turned and brought her hands up to cradle Draco’s face a little smile on her lips. “And, being the way you are isn’t a bad thing, unless you get too impudent, which I feel your father and I have been good at keeping you in line. Also, having Hadrian, who is fine with calling you out and putting you in your place when you get too unruly helps as well.”
“And, no matter what the future holds for us, I will always be there to knock you down a peg or two as needed!” Harry jumped up from the ground, his energy returning as the Heart Break potion cycled through him. “Hopefully, your mate won’t be a total pushover and will keep you in check as well.”
“Are you both ready? We need to leave soon or we’ll miss our portkey,” Lucius remarked as he entered the room, cutting off Draco’s retort.
Narcissa turned to look at Draco, tears in her eyes.
“You can cry and fawn over him before we are announced, they give families time before we have to let him go to his mate,” Lucius quickly interjected before his wife could go full sentimental.
Sending her mate a half-hearted glare, she turned to Hadrian.
“I am so sorry that I can’t be there in the morning to see you off!” She lamented, pulling Harry into a hug. “Let me know when you meet him and if he is as handsome as your Wraiths make him out to be!”
“I will send you a letter after I meet him to give you all the details!” Harry laughed, before turning to Draco. “Have a great night, Draco. You better let me know all about your mate as soon as possible!”
“Of course, and you better let me know about yours as well!”
The two shared a quick hug before Narcissa and Draco were ushered out of the room by Lucius.
“I hope your trip is all you hoped it would be,” Lucius turned to Harry and spoke. “Be safe and don’t spend so much time primping you almost miss your portkey.”
Harry chuckled as Narcissa’s objection floated into the room from the hallway.
“Thank you, Uncle Lucius,” Harry responded, Lucius nodded and reached up to gently squeeze Hadrian’s shoulder, a show of affection from the man who normally shunned physical interaction from anyone outside of his mate.
The next morning, Hadrian stood in the gardens behind Potter Manor with his godfather, a silver plate on the ground next to him.
Sirius bounced up and down on the balls of his feet, his hands were shoved down into his trouser pockets, and his eyes kept zoning in and out.
“Do you have your luggage, Pup?” Sirius suddenly barked out, snapping back to reality and causing Harry to jump.
“Yes, Sirius, it shrunk in my pocket,” Harry answered, patting the front of his robes, where a pocket was hidden inside the robes.
“Do you have your wand?” Sirius asked, before zoning out again, staring at a grouping of trees a ways behind Hadrian.
“Are you okay, Sirius?”
When Sirius didn’t answer, Hadrian had to snap his fingers in front of his godfathers face.
“Sorry, Pup, what did you say?” Sirius whipped around to look at Harry’s face.
“Are you okay?” Harry was really concerned now.
“Yes, sorry, Harry.” Sirius let out a deep sigh and pulled his hands out of his pockets, focusing on his godson. “I can’t believe this day is here. I was going to spend this school year dealing with the idea that you were going to meet your mate in the spring. Now, you are going almost a year early.
“I am so proud of the man you’ve become, your Mum and Dad would also be incredibly proud of you. I am shocked that I didn’t totally mess you up!”
“Thank you, Sirius,” Harry mumbled, trying not to tear up at his godfather. “I can’t believe this day is here either, but I am excited and scared.”
“I know they are going to take care of you in Lemuria and you already know your mate, so that should help with the fear.” Sirius reached out and pulled Harry into a hug. “I guess I am having some empty nest symptoms... might need to start knitting or some shit.”
Harry let out a teary chuckle.
“I think you should start cross stitching.”
Sirius let out a loud laugh and both of the dark haired men fell into fits of laughter, holding each other up.
The plate on the ground glowed, signaling that the Portkey was ready to go.
Sirius pulled away from Harry, reaching up he ran a hand through his short black hair, staring down at the plate.
“I guess it is time for you go. Let me know when you get there and get settled in.” Sirius took a step back and took a deep breath as he looked Hadrian in the eye. “I love you, Pup. I will miss you and I can’t wait to see you when you get home. I also can’t wait to meet your mate and give him the godfather talk where I threaten his life if he ever hurts you.”
“I love you too, Sirius.” The plate on the ground glowed again, and brighter, meaning it was time to leave or the international Portkey would be missed. “I’ll miss you! Good-bye!”
Reaching down, Harry grabbed the plate and in a flash, he was gone.
“Good-bye, Pup,” Sirius whispered the empty spot his godson had just occupied.
A/N: I do apologize for the long wait. A good friend of mine died, very suddenly, and I haven’t felt much like writing or, well, doing anything. I hope you all enjoy this longer chapter.
I have gone through my outline and condensed a few things, this will make the overall story shorter, but I think will help me be able to keep a better writing schedule as I come out my blue spell. I actually, like the new shorter story, as I feel it will make some motivations and situations more intense! Draco’s mating wasn’t supposed to happen at this point, but having him and Harry mated at the same time will make for a far more interesting Hogwarts stay and will allow me to write multiple plot points at once instead of going back and forth.
Have a great new year!
