Scorpius only slept about 2 hours between 3 and 5 am. His mind was a flight with the events of the previous night. He had gone through an emotional roller coaster thinking about Albus. He went to sleep feeling warm and happy. He woke up feeling unsure. By the time he made his way to the great hall for breakfast, he had convinced himself that Albus had made a mistake. He had said that he did not understand his feelings. He probably did not mean what he had told Scorpius last night. It was for sure a mistake. Albus would find him and tell him so. Scorpius knew it would happen. Besides, Vincent had made it clear that no one would ever care for him. He was the gay son of an ex-deatheater, a traitor. No one was on his side. Except for Rose. At the thought of her his stomach gave a lurch. What if she would be mad at him for kissing Albus. Did she already know?
Scorpius sat down at the Ravenclaw table and put some food on his plate. It made him sick to look at it. His stomach was in knots.
Albus walked into the great hall early for breakfast. He was not able to sleep in with thoughts of Scorpius running through his head. He was consumed with guilt. He had left Scorpius without a through explanations of his feelings. The thought that he was going to hurt the boy tore at him. However, the idea of leading him on only to discover that he really did not have feelings for him was worse. That was the problem, confusion. He liked Scorpius, was on the edge of being obsessed with him. But Albus was not gay. He had always thought about girls during his unspeakable late night sessions of self-pleasure. He could not, and would not, punish Scorpius for his confusion.Albus was not entirely willing to let go of Scorpius. Instead he had formulated a plan to give them both time to work things out. He had figured that the other boy would not be able to sleep in either. Scanning the great hall, he discovered he was right. Sitting at the far end of the Ravenclaw table, Scorpius was rigidly drinking from his goblet. He did not even see Albus until he sat down next to him.
“Hi Scorpius, we need to talk. I-“
“It’s okay Albus!” Scorpius interrupted quickly. “I know you did not mean any of those things you said last night. I don’t hold it against you. No one could care for me, I’m Draco Malfoy’s gay son.”
“What?!” Albus exclaimed. “That’s not what I was going to say at all! I meant all of those things I said to you last night.” Scorpius’s face relaxed instantly into a smile, and he became less rigid.
“But Scorpius I’m not sure what’s going on. I don’t want to hurt you.”
“What do you mean?” Scorpius asked, his smile fading.
“I have never felt this way about a boy before. I-“ He paused to wisely select his next words “I don’t want to jump into a relationship and then hurt you because I want to be with a girl again.”
“I understand.” Scorpius said somberly. He somehow managed to transform himself in an instant to the even headed and logical boy that he usually presented himself as. “That makes sense.”
“No Scorpius I don’t mean that I don’t want to be with you!” Albus corrected quickly.
“Make up your mind please.” Scorpius said with a slight bite in his voice. A moment later he looked at Albus apologetically. “I’m sorry to snap at you. Vincent messed with my head a good bit.”
“I know.” Albus said as he took Scorpius’s hand under the table. Scorpius looked around quickly to make sure no one saw them holding hands. “That’s why I spent all night coming up with a plan.”
“A plan?”
“Yes. I thought we could spend some time together. You know, just doing fun things. Like going places together.” Albus explained. “But without getting to serious. That way we both can see how much we like each other before we get in too deep.”
“So your plan is for us to go on some dates?” Scorpius questioned.
“Uh, yes. Well, since you put it like like.” Albus replied feeling stupid. “I know its probably not what you want, but I really care about you Scorpius, I don’t want to hurt you because I’m an idiot.”
“You are not an idtiot!” Scorpius stated firmly tightening his hold on the other boy’s hand. “That sounds like a wonderful plan! It is exactly what I want.” They both smiled at each other.
“Well in that case, come on the Hogsmeade trip with me today. We can walk around like third years and pretend that we still think it’s a cool place.” Scorpius nodded in agreement. “Great! See you then!” Albus got up to leave.
“Wait.” Scorpius said catching him by the sleeve. “Please call me “Scor”. I hate my name.”
“We already have so much in common.” Albus joked. “Bye Scor, I’ll see you later.” He left and walked toward the Slytherin table were a few of his housemates were waiting. He wished he could have kissed Scor before leaving him with the other Ravenclaws. But he figured that they would have time for that at Hogsmead.
