Rose looked up at the impressive mansion in front of her. She had always imagined Malfoy Manor to look as it did; a large structure surrounded by landscaped grounds. Without ever having been there before, Rose had successfully apparated outside the gates of one of the most infamous homes in wizarding England.
A sharp pain in her wrist shifted her attention from the house. Her arm had began to swell. The sight of it inspired a sadness within her. Her father had hit her, had probably broken her wrist. She had never seen him so angry before.
Taking a deep breath, she looked once more to the Manor. She had come this far, there would be no going back now. She approached the gate, looking for some type of handle to put it open but found none. I have to walk through it. She thought to herself. There was something terrifying about this idea. She had no knowledge about the enchantments surrounding Malfoy Manor, but intuitively she reasoned that it must be well protected.
She held her breath as she moved through the first gate. Once on the other side, she looked down to find her body still intact. She quickened her pace, walking hastily up the long driveway and though several more sets of black metal gates. Eventually she reached the large, intricately carved, wooden doors.
She reached her hand up to the ornate knob, but the door opened of its volition. Slowly, Rose walked inside. "Hello?" She called, looking around the large entrance hall. For a moment she thought about the ridiculousness of her situation. She was probably the first Weasley in history to enter Malfoy Manor of their own accord in search of a Malfoy. She stood there awkwardly in the entrance hall, unsure of what to do next. Were they even home? Perhaps they had all gone on holiday for the break. Perhaps, Rose thought to herself, they are not even back from collecting Scorpius from the platform. It was a possibility, she herself had only been home for a few hours before fighting with her father and fleeing the family home. What am I doing? How could I be so stupid? He probably still has to tell them about me!
Rose sat on the floor cross-legged and hung her head, cradling the swollen arm. "This is not how I planned it!" She said loudly to herself.
"How did you get in here?" Sharply questioned a man's voice.
Rose stood quickly and backed herself against the wall. Her heart pounded with fear as she looked at Draco Malfoy. He approached her, his face somewhere between a sneer and curiosity. "I um, I uh-"
"You are smart enough to break into my house, but not smart enough to use your words?" Draco said creuly. "I'm only going to ask once more, Weasley. How did you get in?"
"I walked through the gates!" Rose said quickly. "And the door opened for me on its own!"
"Really?" The sneer was gone from his face. Draco's menace began to dissipate from the room. "The manor let you in?"
"Well, I guess. I mean, I'm not sure, I just walked right in."
"Walked right in?" He repeated, looking at her with a new kind of curiosity. He moved away from her and went to the large doors she had entered through. He placed his hands on the carved wood, examining them, looking for something that he did not seem to find.
Rose suddenly realized that he had not asked her why she was there. He called her Weasley, he knew who she was.
"I apologize for my lack of hospitality Miss Weasley." Draco said as he walked over to her once more. His expression had gone soft. He reminded her much more of Scorpius that way. "You must understand that the manor only allows three people to enter her gates freely." Rose, being the smart girl that she was, instantly understood that her easy entrance was more unusual than she had first expected.
"Don't apologize." Rose said with a small smile. "I didn't even knock."
Draco gave her a very familiar looking half-smile. "Your wrist, did that happen on your way in?" He asked, gesturing to her swollen limb.
"No, it was...before." Rose trailed off, not completely willing to discuss the argument she had with her father only half an hour earlier.
Draco surveyed her in much the same way that Scorpius usually did. He simply nodded, an acknowledgment that he understood her need for privacy. "Let me take you to Astoria. Healing is not my forte." He turned and walked up the elegant staircase before them.
It was all a bit strange to her. Draco Malfoy did not ask her why she was at his house. He did not seem to care that she had turned up in his entrance hall in her muggle clothes. Not to mention that he was leading her though the family home to his wife so that she could have her wrist fixed.
"Um, Mr. Malfoy, I-"
"Draco." He offered.
"Draco," She said his name, trying to sound as normal as possible, "Are you going to ask me why I'm here?"
"Obviously." He said shortly. "However, I don't plan on integrating a harmless little girl with a broken wrist." He opend a door and motioned for her to go through.
Astoria Malfoy sat in a large, rather comfortable looking, chair. Upon Rose's entrance, Mrs. Malfoy looked up from the paper she was reading. "Hello Rose." She said kindly with a smile as she stood from the chair.
"Hello." Rose responded quietly.
"Dear, would you please take a look at our guest's wrist?"
"Certainly." Astoria motioned towards another chair, one closer to Rose. "Draco! She looks terrified! What did you do to her?"
"I found her alone in the entrance hall." It was not a real answer, rather an implied apology for his behavior.
"Men." Astoria said with a huff as she rolled her eyes. Rose had never been this close to the other woman before. Astoria was very beautiful, in a classic type of way. In opposition to her husband's pointed features, Astoria had a feminine softness to her. A softness which she gave to her son. When Scorpius was young, he looked like an exact replica of Draco. However, over the years, he had began to take on some of his mother's more rounded features. "Hold your arm out, sweet girl." Rose obeyed. With the graceful flick of a wand, Astoria moved the fragile bones back into place, a second flick and the swelling began to calm. Astoria certainly had a knack for healing.
"Thank you." Rose said. "I'm sorry to just show up like this, unannounced and all. I know you must be wondering why I'm here. Honestly, I don't understand why you have not thrown me out yet."
"We are a bit curious." Astoria agreed. "However, you look as though you've had a long day. I'm sure Scorpius will be able to answer our questions." She gave her husband a very intentional look and he left the room, most likely to fetch his son.
Rose sat in silence for a few moments, her eyes fixed on the door.
After what seemed to be an eternity, Draco returned, flanked by a very confused looking Scorpius. Their eyes met and she watched shock spread over his face.
"Socorpius, is there something you should tell us?" Draco asked coldly.
Scorpius walked over to Rose, never breaking eye contact with her. The room became still as he took her hand into his own and turned to face his parents. "This is Rose Weasley. She is my girlfriend."
