Hermione walked in to Amelia’s bedroom to find the woman dressed in a beautiful midnight blue evening gown with sparkly stars shimmering around the bottom hem. Her usually straight white hair had been charmed in to ringlets and Hermione had pulled the front part back with clips. She picked out a pair of matching midnight blue dangling earrings and a matching necklace. Amelia, however, was sitting stone-faced staring in to the fireplace like she was listening to a story that only she could hear.
“Amelia” Hermione said as she walked in, wearing her own deep red, strapless evening gown with her hair matching the elderly woman’s “What are you doing?” She sat down in the chair to the left of hers “The carriage will be here in five minutes to bring us to the opera in London”
“I’m not going” Amelia said with finality.
“Why not?” Hermione asked, with her shoulders drooping. She wasn’t losing any money as it had been the Prince account buying the tickets but it would have been a nice experience for them both.
“Look at me” She snapped “Then look at you and everyone else that’ll be there”
“I can’t look at them because we’re not there” Hermione pointed out “You look wonderful, that dress is lovely and your hair is beautiful...”
“I look like the ugly old woman that I was cursed to be” Amelia snapped at her “That’s what I look like”
“The curse?” Hermione asked rolling her eyes “Really?” She let out a hollow sounding laugh.
“Don’t you laugh” Amelia growled “My family was cursed. My ancestors were all beautiful and then stupid Zelda used her feminine attributes to get what she wanted...who she wanted and didn’t care who she hurt in the process and finally she was called out. The curse made all of us as ugly on the outside as she was on the inside but that wasn’t enough was it...we were cursed with her ugliness inside as well”
“The only reason any of you are ugly on the inside is because you allow it” Hermione answered “And you are beautiful in your own right”
“And my nephew?” Amelia asked almost meanly “Can you look past his greasy hair, huge, hooked nose, mean black eyes and pale skin to see any beauty in him?” Hermione remained silent a little too long “I knew it. You are like the rest of the world and put stock in what is on the outside, so don’t preach to me about ‘it’s what’s on the inside that counts’ because we both know that there is nothing good inside Severus”
“How can you say that?!” Hermione was horrified with how mean she was being, there was a knock on the door and she called out entrance.
“Miss” The little elf stood in the doorway “The carriage is here”
“Thank you, Cray” Hermione said, not taking her eyes off of the staring contest she was having with Amelia “We will be down in a few minutes, tell him to wait”
“Yes, miss” Cray answered and took off towards the staircase.
“If I can name off three things that are physically attractive about Severus, will you go?” She asked.
“Only physically?” She asked “No, inner beauty in him?”
“I’ll use that one for the next time I’m trying to get you out of the house” Hermione said and pulled out her wand “Shall we take a wizards oath saying that if I can name three things physically pleasing about Severus that you’ll come with me to the opera?”
“Very well” Amelia said, they took the oath. While Hermione worked the charm over their hands the elderly woman looked at her in amusement. She was far more interesting than the first week had shown, they may actually get along perfectly “Tell me what these attributes are, we’ve got to go”
“Severus has the type of voice that I could listen to all day” Hermione said with a red face “He’s got beautiful hands and his eyes have a way of piercing through to your very soul” She smirked “Let’s go”

Severus walked up to the house on Friday afternoon but no one was home. He searched Amelia’s bedroom in a panic and then Hermione’s and then he jogged to the kitchen and found Cray cleaning some dishes. The elf happily told the panicking man that Hermione and Amelia had gone to the park in town for a picnic. He paced the yard for two hours before he saw a carriage pulling up to the front door and he saw Hermione helping his aunt out of it. To his utmost surprise Amelia looked amused and they were chatting amicably about something that he couldn’t hear. He walked over to where they were standing and glared at Hermione’s back waiting for her to notice him standing.
“Miss Granger” He snapped when she didn’t even look at him.
“Oh no” Amelia said with a small giggle that he’d never heard from her before “I do believe that we’re in trouble, little girl”
“Yes, Snape?” She asked, turning to look at him with a bright smile that nearly knocked the air from his lungs.
“Where have you two been all day?” He asked, when his breath was returned to him.
“We went to the park” She answered “Then we saw the most precious oddity shop and had to stop there...I fear we were there longer than we planned to be”
“And what about her potions?” He asked angrily “And her naps?”
“I took her potions with us” She answered “And I assumed that she’d tell me when she was tired...she’s old, Severus not stupid”
“I know that” He hissed “Aunt Amelia...you’re completely flushed, you should get some rest before you catch a cold of some sort”
Amelia walked by Hermione with her back towards Severus and shot her a little eye-roll at his behavior before he swept her up the stairs and to her room. Hermione paid the carriage driver and thanked the man for being so cool with driving them around. She grabbed her bags and walked in to the house, she walked past Amelia’s bedroom and called out that she’d be down for dinner in an hour or so but she wanted to shower. Once showered Hermione dressed in an orange skirt that reached the floor in the back but came up to her knees in the front and a matching tank top and she left her hair down. She walked in to the dining room to find the table set for a delicious seafood dinner but only Severus sitting at the table. He stood when she walked in and she saw his eyes dance over her outfit for a moment before he pulled out the chair across from his for her to sit in.
“Amelia is tired now” He told her “It will be just us eating tonight, Hermione”
“Of course she is” Hermione smirked and when he raised a brow she added “It’s been a long day”
“I am...very happy to see her up and about” Snape said “Though, I do fear for her health”
“Let me ask you a question, Severus” Hermione said, as she sipped her wine “Is she really that sick or are you hoping that she is”
“That’s a terrible question!” He looked outrage “How dare you!”
“I don’t mean any harm in the question” Hermione said quickly as she saw the anger filling his eyes “It’s just. She has so much life in her and now that she’s got someone to stay with her all the time she is going out and having a good time...I know that she can be trying so I just...I’m sorry”
“She is sick” He said after a moment “You don’t see it now, but you will. That time spent in a tiny cell of a bedroom on the third floor made her weak and some weeks, she’s fine while others...you’ll see. I thought she was perfectly healthy when I first met her but over time it got worse and worse, that’s why I needed someone here”
“Alright” Hermione said, she ate some of her food before adding in “I really am sorry to have said that”
“It’s okay” He answered with a small smile “So” He put down his fork when his plate was empty and she followed his actions “You like my voice, hands and eyes?”
“She told you that, huh?” She asked with a small, embarrassed laugh “Traitor” He smirked and looked towards the darkened window and then looked at her again, deciding to take a chance.
“Have you been on the roof, yet?” He asked.
“No” She said.
“It’s nice up there” Severus said “I’ll show you”
Hermione followed him in a slight daze as he walked up the stairs in down the left side of the hallway. She hadn’t been down this hallway yet, but the manor kind of gave her the creeps so that would be the reason behind her not investigating. She looked around the hallway and noted that the pictures went from one rather ugly person to another until they reached the end of the hallway where there were two portraits of two extremely beautiful women one across from another. One that had white blonde hair and the other had black hair, both however, were very snotty looking and seemed rather unpleasant. Severus went through a doorway and up the stairs that led to the roof where the first thing she noticed was the clear night sky. It was blanketed in shining stars that twinkled and seemed to wink at her, she smiled and walked to the edge noting that she could see everything from where she stood. The grounds were glorious, wide and romantic, bathed in the light that made her want to dance. She turned and looked at Severus, he offered a small smile and joined her where she stood but knew that she was about to burst the quiet.
“Tell me about the curse” She said “Luna told me what she knew, but I want to know about it from you”
“There isn’t anything interesting to know” He told her with a sigh and she gently nudged him with her sigh and he smiled “I guess I can tell you but like I’ve said before a curse is only as strong as you make it” She nodded “Alright, it all started with Zelda. She was beautiful, cold and cruel...”
A/N: I hope you liked this chapter. The history of the curse will be revealed in the next chapter, that may take a while I want it to be a good little back story.
