“So” Tony said, with a hilarious amount of excitement as he nearly tipped out of his chair leaning forward to look at her closer “You live in a world that no one else other than magical people have ever entered?!”
“Right” Hermione said and laughed when he bounced eagerly in place.
“I swear to god” Tony said looking at Bruce “I am an inch from busting in my pants right now”
“Oh...” Hermione blushed a deep red “Okay”
“Don't be too alarmed...he actually did...er...bust when he finally finished his much needed updates to JARVIS” Bruce told her “It was...disturbing”
“Yes” Hermione said, looking at Tony in shock as he looked at her like she may be something new altogether “It is”
“Tell us about this world” Stark pleaded, while Bruce watched with fascination. He would never act like Tony did but he too was extremely interested in the little that she'd told them, but he could tell that she was nervous telling them as much as she had.
“Hermione” Bruce said softly “Are you not supposed to tell us about this?”
“I have permission” She answered “Everyone knows that what I was attempting to do, that is to get Tony to work with Malfoy, Inc. was tricky and that telling you guys about the wizarding world would likely be something that I would have to do at some point”
“So what's the problem?” Tony asked impatiently “Tell us already”
“I just didn't expect to have to do this so soon” Hermione admitted “I know that I would have to do it but not so soon. I thought I would come here, get to know you a little, talk to you about our company and once I was completely comfortable then I would tell you about the magical world” She looked at her hands “I never expected that you guys would have any knowledge about things outside of the muggle world...most muggles only know about mundane things such as well...not magic or Gods or flying without an airplane...so yeah...”
“Would you...” Tony started but Bruce kicked him under the table.
“You don't have to tell us anymore if you don't want to” He promised, giving the billionaire a dirty look.
“I would like to talk to my bosses a little before I tell you anymore, if you don't mind” Hermione said “I'd like to get their views on what's happening and the time frame that it's happening in”
“No problem” Bruce said easily “Right, Tony?”
The billionaire looked like he wanted to fight with her about the decision to talk to her bosses before she told them more but he grudgingly made up a story about having some work that needed to be done anyway. When Hermione left the kitchen, where they'd been talking, Bruce was headed back to the office that Stark had made for his use and Tony was going down to his workshop. Hermione walked back in to her bedroom and sat on the edge of the big and very comfortable bed that had been given to her. She liked Tony, which surprised her, she hadn't been so sure that she would because his attitude while not being a mean as Draco's had been when they'd been in school was definitely as cocky and she tended to not get along with people that behaved like that. However, Hermione found his eagerness to learn about the magical world endearing, a bit hilarious and the perfect opportunity to be able to teach someone about the world she loved and lost so much to protect. She looked around the room, before she grabbed the mirror and looked at the muggle clock and deeming it the perfect time for her to call on them. Hermione walked out on to the deck and activated her mirror sitting down against the building so she wouldn't accidentally walk to the edge and look over.
“Granger” Draco greeted her “Miss me already?”
“Not in the least” She answered “Where are you?”
“The manor” He told her “Dad's here, you want me to get him?”
“Probably be best” Hermione said “There's... a slight problem that has arisen”
“First off” Draco said “Are you okay and are you safe?”
“Yes and yes” She answered “Can you get your father, please?”
“Hold on” Draco sighed, Hermione waited a minute or so before she saw both blondes looking back at her.
“Hello” Lucius greeted “My son tells me that there's a problem, what's happening?”
“They caught me on camera revealing myself after I left the closet” Hermione said “They saw me use my wand”
“Have they threatened you, Miss Granger?” Lucius said “I can contact the magical law enforcement teams they have there, they can be there in minutes they can help you and take care of...”
“No” Hermione said quickly “No, it's okay. They are more than cool with it but I just...I feel that its all moving too fast, they shouldn't know about my magic yet, I feel like I failed somehow”
“That's her greatest fear, you know?” Draco said snidely to his father with a grin towards her and she glared at him “Sorry”
“What do I do?” She asked.
“You have permission from our ministry and theirs to tell them” Lucius said “They've reacted positively to your magic...”
“Enthusiastically, even” She added in for him.
“Then tell them about our world, it may help Stark make a better decision about our company” Lucius told her.
They spoke some more about minor things including how her friends were doing and what was new in their world though it had only really been a few days since she left. To her it felt like a lifetime since she'd seen Harry or talked to Ginny and she made a mental note to call her through the mirror later. When they hung up Hermione walked around her room and tried to think of things to do to waste her time before giving up and going to the office to get Bruce so they could both go to the workshop. Tony was tinkering with some metals things that were a total mystery to Hermione and while she watched him dance around the area (he had earbuds in his ears) she thought about how different her life could have been had she remained a muggle. Had her magic never made itself known would she know what it was he was playing with now. Would she know how to properly use a computer and not have to just fudge her way through it? Maybe she'd be married to a man that she met at University. She may have traveled the world with him for their honeymoon and maybe they'd be talking about having a family now. Maybe if her magic had never made itself known her parents would be alive now and she and her imaginary husband would be heading over their house for Christmas eve dinner and then back in the morning for presents. Before Hermione could depress herself further Tony suddenly stood up rigidly straight and turned his head quickly to look at them. He shot them an easy and possibly even flirty smile but she saw the faint blush that colored his cheeks at being caught dancing.
“So” He said, clearing his throat “All good now?”
“Can we sit?” She said by way of answering.
Tony and Bruce sat on one side of the table in the kitchen while she sat on the other and looked at them for a moment wondering where to start and even better, how much to tell them. Should she gloss over the war or her schooling, should she tell only funny stories, spells, potions and candies or did she tell them the raw truth of their world, it was all very confusing. Finally, she opened her mouth and just let the words fall from her lips and she was unable to stop them once they started and to her surprise neither man even tried to interrupt her once she got going. She started at the beginning, when she was a child and had these strange occurrences, things moving on their own, accidental apparition among some of the things and then how Professor McGonagall had shown up one day in the summer before she turned twelve to tell her that she was a witch. Hermione didn't mean to make it so personal but she didn't know any other way to explain it, she told them how her parents had been nervous but really excited. Then she told them about Diagon Alley and shopping for the school, about her friends, the school, the classes, the different houses and which one she was in, she told them about her bullies and her teachers and then it got a little more difficult. It was time to tell them about Voldemort, the death eaters, the war, all those they lost, the things she'd seen and done. Her hands shook and she was unable to hold back tears as she relived everything from what happened in her fourth year on and gratefully accepted the tissue that Bruce handed her. Finally, about two hours after she started Hermione told them all about Malfoy, Inc. before she finally fell in to silence, just watching them as they absorbed all that she told them.
“You are still suffering the effects of that war” Tony said, there were so many things going through his head, he wanted to see her use her magic, he wanted to ask to see her world, the spell books and completely study it but he knew that there was more to her story that he needed to pay attention to first.
“It's hard to get over” Hermione said “Those who were part of the war don't want to talk about it, they don't want to answer questions about it, don't want to ask their own questions...its very hard to be the only one who needs to talk when no one else wants to”
“We have a friend” Tony said as he looked over at Bruce “He's been through war as well, he has outlived all his friends and would understand what you're going through...I could contact him, he could come here off and on and chat with you, help you get through some of your memories and questions”
“I'll meet him” Hermione said “At some point”
“Okay” Bruce said, looking at Tony to make sure that he wasn't going to push matters “So...you really gave us a lot to think about”
“Could you...” Tony started, making a swishing motion with his index finger.
“What would you like me to do?” She asked with a small laugh feeling a little better now that she was thinking about spells instead of war.
“Um...” He looked around “Can you...get me a glass of water?”
“Water?” Bruce said with a small laugh “All the things that she could do with that wand and you want water?”
“I'm thirsty” He looked over at his friend with an eye roll “I didn't know what to do”
Hermione pointed her wand over her shoulder and without saying a thing she summoned a glass, it floated over and landed in front of Tony and she then pointed her wand at it. She smiled as Tony gasped while the previously empty glass filled with water and then she pointed to it assuring him that it was fresh and cold, just waiting for him. He watched her wearily as he lifted the glass to his lips taking a long sip and then smiled at her, exclaiming that she was wonderful and insisted that she do more. After a little over an hour there were holes in the walls, birds flying around the kitchen, broken glasses, water all over the place, Bruce was still floating around the ceiling,Tony's hair was multicolored and JARVIS was a half an inch from short-circuiting because he couldn't fix things as quickly as Hermione was breaking them. She was getting drained, which Tony noticed so while Bruce was trying to anchor himself with the fridge so that he could pull himself back to the ground, he insisted that she take a nap but asked if there was a book he could read up on her world. She agreed and went off to get her book once he was set in the living room and she assured Bruce who was dog-paddling to the living room in mid-air that the floating spell would wear off in due time then she climbed in to bed and promptly fell asleep, happy but completely drained of her normal and magical energy.
When Hermione woke up a little while later she found that the sky outside the tall structure she was in was dark, it was nighttime but more than that she could see storm clouds moving in. Walking in to the bathroom Hermione adjusted the taps in the bathtub and when it was ready she stoppered the drain and added in different bathing potions that all smelled so sweet. While it was filling she undressed in her room and tied her bathrobe around herself and sat down at the vanity she'd made out of a trunk she brought from home, and twisted her hair in to a knot and clipped it up. After checking the status of the water in the tub she came back out and fished around her little beaded bag and came out with magical make-up wipes to remove any dirt that may be on her face. When she was done, Hermione made her way to the bathroom and hung her bathrobe up before slipping in to the hot water. She shut the water off, laid her head back and closed her eyes enjoying the hot water relax her bones and mind but her peace was short lived.
“Miss Granger” JARVIS spoke “Mr. Stark asked me to tell him when you've awoken...would you like me to tell him now or would you rather that I tell him you are still asleep?”
“Sweet Merlin, JARVIS!” Hermione exclaimed, she pulled bubbles towards herself to make sure that she was all covered “I told you not to record me in here!”
“I didn't think it mattered once you were in the water, Miss Granger” JARVIS said “I do not record but watch to ensure your safety”
“What is going to happen to me?” Hermione asked, wishing that she had something more to cover herself with “Are the bubbles going to breed quickly and smother me?” Her eyes snapped to wherever the voice was coming from “Wait a minute...how did you know I was in the water?” There was no answer and after a few tense minutes she finally relaxed in to the hot water. But knowing that JARVIS was likely watching her while she bathed made it less than comforting so she quickly washed herself and then wanted to leave the bath which brought up a whole other problem. She wanted to leave the bath because the A.I. May be watching her but if she got out of the tub then he'd get an eyeful.
“JARVIS?” Hermione called out nervously.
“Y-yes, Miss?” He answered after what she assumed would be a moments hesitation.
“Could you get...er...Mr. Stark or Doctor Banner for me?” She asked.
“Yes, Miss” He said. Tony was lying on the couch with Hogwarts: A History held in front of his face, completely immersed in Hermione's world, the world that she wanted to open up to him. Bruce was sitting in a chair that was on the other side of the couch, it was as far in to the living room as the man could manage. Even now, three hours since the magical display, Bruce, who was reading a book on magical spells, would occasionally float up and would be forced to pull himself back down.
“Sir” JARVIS said “Miss Granger is requesting yours and Doctor Banners presence in her bedroom...she is in the bathroom”
“Is she hurt, JARVIS?” Tony asked as they made their way to the bedroom.
“No, sir” He answered.
“Hermione” Tony knocked “Are you okay?”
“Can you do me a favor?” Hermione asked and heard him agree “Can you shut JARVIS down so I can get out of the bathtub?”
“If I shut him down I leave my entire building open for a possible attack or at the very least robbery” He informed “What happened?”
“He was watching me!” Hermione snapped “Please, I want to get out of the bath and I am very uncomfortable knowing he can see in here”
“Well...” Tony started, he was annoyed because he told her numerous times that JARVIS wasn't a real person and therefor wasn't getting any sort of sexual pleasure watching her.
“Tony” Bruce muttered low so that Hermione couldn't hear him through the door “I think what bothers her isn't so much that she thinks he is watching her more that he's recording her and you can watch her at any given time...its a plausible concern”
“I can shut down the camera system in your bathroom” Tony conceded “I will do that now”
“Thank you” Hermione called out “Let me know when its safe to get out”
“Its okay now” He assured her “I have disconnected you bathroom camera from his system. It's completely shut down so he can't see you”
“How do I know that for sure?” She asked him, Tony's jaw clenched in irritation but he fought to get his annoyance under control reminding himself that she'd been through a lot which made her trust not easily given.
“Call out for him” He told her, he can only answer you if he is hooked up in that room. Tony listened carefully as she called out to the A.I. And then smiled when she thanked him so he excused himself, pulling Banner, who was floating about a foot above the floor and trying desperately to get back down, out of the room. Hermione came out of her room about thirty minutes later, her hair braided and her pajama pants and long-sleeved t-shirt on.
“Hermione!” Tony exclaimed “We were talking about dinner”
“Chinese” She answered, having heard their argument from the hallway “I want Chinese food” Banner grinned.
“JARVIS” Tony sighed, when the he answered Tony motioned for them to put in their order and then put in his own “Thank you” He added at the end “Thanks to you, Granger” Tony told her “JARVIS has been offended”
“Why?” She asked “Because I didn't want him creeping on me while I bathed?”
“He feels violated” Tony informed her and she laughed.
“He feels violated?” Hermione repeated “He was recording me while I bathed”
“Well” Tony said, already losing interest in the conversation “He's taking it out on me” He smirked “Say Granger...if we were to make Bruce angry and he turned green...could you put that floating charm on him?”
“Yeah, why?” She asked.
“We could parade him through New York!” Tony gave a hopeful look at Banner who glared back “A Thanksgiving Day float, how's that sound?”
“You're an ass” Bruce snarled as he started to float a little, Hermione cast a spell on him that made him plop back down on the chair he was sitting in and then pointed her wand at Tony and laughed as he squeaked and floated off his seat and in to the ceiling.
A/N: Thank you so much for the reviews. They really help me keep going. I hope you like this chapter, I've been trying to keep it going. I apologize for not posting sooner, sadly on Thursday my father passed away very suddenly and I have found that it effected me more than I thought. Writing has been more difficult than I thought it would be. Also, I wanted to say that while I agree that the revelation of Hermione's magic was a bit sudden the thought that someone as tech savvy as Tony Stark wouldn't have camera's in all the rooms in his apartment is laughable. Those cameras would end up catching something so that's why I put it in there. Please review!
