George Weasley watched as the dark man from before entered the shop again right at eight that night. He had his notes spread out on the counter and was just saying goodbye to his last customer, the man didn’t come over to speak to him but instead he walked along the wall and played with the pygmy puffs with a smirk. Once the door was finally closed and the sign was placed against the glass George looked at him again as he turned to look at him finally. His eyes were a bit unnerving, it was like he tended to stare right in to his soul and knew everything about him.
“My name is George” He found himself saying, he walked slowly towards the man, his hands held up as if approaching a dangerous creature “I own this shop”
“My name is Loki” The tall, thin man introduced himself “God of mischief”
“Ok” George said, he smirked when Loki looked shocked that he believed him, George was sure that it was a rare moment when someone shocked the man before him “I bought this shop a few years ago with my brother but he was…” The words stuck in his throat and Loki looked at him, knowing the words he’d been about to say and a part of him didn’t want to make him say it.
“In the war” Loki said “We saw it on Asgard, I am sorry for the losses”
“My brother and I had been working on a few things that would have made us a pretty penny as well as helped many people” George told him “But then…well, now I guess it doesn’t matter”
“I really am sorry about the loss of your brother” Loki said “And I…apologize for sounding cold but why did you ask me here tonight?”
“This afternoon” George said, as he turned away from the counter and fixed his light brown eyes on the dark man “You solved a problem that I have been working on for almost a full three years and you did it in a matter of a minutes”
“You’re welcome” Loki said “But you want something else, don’t you?”
“I have thirty-six unfinished projects” George said, he grabbed his notebook and flourished it in front of Loki’s face “I have been searching for someone with Fred’s brains and mischief level, someone with his abilities that could help pull this shop out of the funk it’s in and thrust it back in to the world be it magical or muggle”
“And you think that’s me?” Loki asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Who better than the God of mischief?” George asked.
“Why would I do it?” Loki asked “I’ve never been accused of being caring or helpful when needed, so why the hell would I help you?”
“I don’t expect you to give a shit about me or my shop” George told him honestly “But really, do you have anything better to do?”
Loki looked at him for a minute or so before he heaved a sigh and reached over, snatching the notebook out of his hands. The next few hours were spent talking over each of the inventions, how they were working, how they were supposed to work and what kind of changes could be made to make the product better. George had been unsure of letting Loki help though he’d been pressing him to do so but as the night disappeared in to the early hours of the morning and the sky started to lighten up he was happy. Having Loki around was like having a mixture of Snape and Fred with a sprinkle of Malfoy in there around. His humor was darker than Fred’s had been and yet he still found the jokes that Fred had loved amusing.
“It’s getting late” Loki said, standing from the lounged position that he’d been in on the floor of the shop “Or maybe I should be saying it’s getting early, I don’t know” He offered a small grin at George who responded with his own smile.
“Do you have a wife or girlfriend waiting for you?” George asked as he too stood up from the spot on the floor and picked up the piles of papers that had surrounded them.
“No” Loki answered “But I will have one extremely pissed off brother” He chuckled “And all his friends” His lips were still stretched in to a smile but there was no amusement in his eyes, they looked worried and even a little scared.
“So they will…what?” George asked “Yell at you, kick you out?”
“I don’t know” Loki answered with a touch of fear in his tone. George was suddenly struck with a memory of Draco when he’d been in his third year and the Dementors had stormed the train looking for Sirius Black. He’d been cold and aloof about falling in to their compartment, claiming that he didn’t want to brush against one of those “bastards” in the hallway. When the evil bastards opened their door the look of terror that overcame Draco’s features made Georges heart break. While using the invisibility cloak to nick some food a couple months later he overheard Draco talking to Myrtle. He learned in those moments that the memories he’d been forced to relive had been about his life with his parents during the summers and before school. That was the same look that Loki wore at that moment.
“Well the best way to avoid those moments” George said “Is to not go home. I live in the apartment up there, two bedrooms, you’re more than welcome to sleep there”
“Clothes?” Loki asked, there was a hint of amusement in his tone again but his light blue eyes held an unsaid ‘thank you’.
“My brothers clothes are still in there” George said around the emotion in his throat.
“That works for me” Loki said with a grin “Let’s go then”
A/N: I’m sorry it’s been so long, I’ve a new job and on top of being busy I lost my muse for a while. Many muses actually, this is the first thing I’ve written in ages so please review and be gentle. BTW the relationship between Loki and George is still in the air, it could really go one way or another…or another. Tell me what you think, please.
