Several smothered chuckles sounded around the room at the tone of Christian's voice. Looking at his first born, his Heir, he knew he may just be in trouble if this was not handled correctly. Christian protected his brother's like a Dragon protects her eggs.
"I've chosen a husband for Rodolphus."
"Chosen a hus--FATHER!!" he exclaimed.
"Christian, please don't shout at me."
Christian forcibly controlled himself, though his eyes told them EXACTLY how he felt about this news. "Your pardon, Papa," he said, lifting a hand to run it through his hair, a deep sigh sounding. "Have I not made it very clear that Rodolphus has no wish to marry again. Ever? To either man OR woman."
"You have, and so has he when he came to talk to me about several things shortly after Bella died. All the same, as our choice is not yet old enough to wed, I figured it wouldn't be too much of a problem as, in a few years, he may very well change his mind. My choice for your brother has, after all, just turned fourteen."
"I wouldn't count on that, and just what does that have to do with any--Wait. Did you just say fourteen?"
"I did," came his smiling answer.
Chistian went very still, a sudden gasp escaping him as realization hit, and he looked around the room. First his eyes fell on a now widely grinning Alekzander, to a smiling Lily, then over to an amused Thorin, then his gaze landed on James. "Hunter," he breathed. "You want to wed him to Hunter."
"Yes, Christian, that is exactly what we want to do."
"But he..." he broke off, shaking his head in disbelief. "Never mind. Though how you could possibly know this soon is beyond me. I thought so when Kae told me you had entered into talks to betroth him to either Rabastan or Cameron."
"Either of whom would have been a good choice for Hunter, especially as neither of them has ever been known to be mean, quick to temper, or as cruel as Sylvester has been known to be on occasion."
"As Sylvester was never considered, we would have to agree with you there," Lily said, "but now..."
"Now, Rodolphus is free. Rabastan is betrothed to Harry, and Adreian has begun to make some very subtle moves toward Cam, despite still being betrothed himself."
"That will likely be changing sooner, rather than later as Adreian's relationship with Duke Kennessy has become very...strained," Alekzander said. "I trust, Chris, that you find no faults with my youngest brother?"
"Fault, Alek?" Christian looked over at him with an arched brow, then he shook his head. "No, of course not, but then, I haven't really spent that much time around him to know him well, but you, Kae and the others have had nothing but good things to say about him. My concerns are for Rodolphus."
"As they should be. So, you have no real objections to a betrothal between your brother and my son?"
"No, of course not," he answered, looking over at James, "though Rodolphus might. I will need to talk to him about it. IF Dolph should happen to agree to the betrothal, I have a demand of my own."
"And what would that be?"
"Hunter must be told about this. I will not see my brother wed to another that will never love him, or be loved in return."
Lily arched an auburn brow as she rose to her feet, her skirts settling around her. "THAT, my Lord Prince, you need to never worry about. You are, after all, wed to our daughter, and I am quite sure Rabastan has shared his betrothal contract with you. You may have also noticed that two of our sons are as of yet, not wed for that very reason. Braedan has yet to set a date to his marriage to Leia Organa. And, to add to Alek's assumption about his brother, we will be seeing Adreian breaking his betrothal to Duke Kennessy sooner, rather than later. We do not know his thoughts concerning Cameron, as he has yet to come to us. That, however, is neither here nor there. Do you honestly think that we would see ANY of our children in a marriage they did not want to be in, despite their Royal status?"
"No, Lily, of course, I don't think that."
"Then you should know that Hunter will be told, and IF he decides he has no wish to wed Rodolphus, then he will not."
"Okay then, I had best go find him and talk to him," he said as he too got to his feet.
"James, you know my thoughts and wishes on this matter. I'll leave you to work out the finer details. I'm going upstairs to check on Hadrian and Hunter."
James nodded as he got to his feet, moved to brush a light kiss to her lips. "Tell the boys I'll be up to see them soon. I love you," he murmured, giving her another brief kiss.
She smiled, touching her fingers to his jaw. "I will. I love you. Gentlemen," she said with an inclination of her head. "Remus," she turned to head toward the door.
Alekzander, Thorin, and Corvus rose to their feet as she pulled open the door and left the study.
