Hogwarts seemed to have a different atmosphere when the news of Harry's departure had been brought to their attention.
Ever since Dumbledore announced that Harry Potter had left Hogwarts - whilst not giving the exact reason - he had implied that it was due to the pressure and the torment that he had constantly recieved at Hogwarts that was one of the benefactors of him leaving. Sure, it may sound petty to some, but it also gave the students an important lesson. That constant torment and bullying could lead to some very drastic changes in personality, and in some cases, it forces one to take actions to save themselves from the torment.
Now, the lively and mystical corridors of Hogwarts seemed a little bleaker and dull, even if the Triwizard Tournament was still running - only this time, Harry was not a champion anymore.
Of course, the people who had a part in the torment of Harry after his name came out of the Goblet of Fire, or even when the incident with 'Slytherin's Heir', they were feeling very guilty of everything they had done to amount to the final result.
Now, it was noticeable that out of the 'Golden Trio' the rather amusing moniker that was given to the gang of Harry, Hermione and Ron, who talent for finding trouble somehow overcame the Marauder's in a few short years, it was Ron Weasley who seemed to be take the heaviest hit when it came to Harry departing Hogwarts suddenly.
Not only had he believed that the argument that he had, along with the jealousy that he displayed towards Harry is what was one of the final blows. Since then, it had been apparent that Ron was stuck in a rut of sorts. He was still the Quidditch fan that he had always been, and he was still... lacking in some areas of the schoolwork - mainly the homework - however, it was possible to see that he was trying his very best to change how he was.
Although, he still was wary of Slytherin's, but it wasn't as bad as before, where as soon as someone was sorted into that house, he wouldn't plan on talking to them, nor would he ever associate with them, labelling as 'Dark' before they had even had their first lesson or interactions. Sometimes, it was possible to see him having a conversation with the Slytherin's that were in his year, some of them who were notably good at Wizarding Chess, thus they had something in common to try and talk about.
He still hated Draco and his large and obese bodyguards like they were a plague to the school.
Now, when it came to Hermione, everyone expected her to feel the most hurt about it. However, once the news broke to her, she had this... sad smile to her, and she had said that of course she was upset, but she and Harry had reconnected after the fiasco, and that she would support him no matter what, as friends should do.
She was still at the top of her classes - in most subjects - with Defense Against the Dark Arts being her weakest subject yet, however, she did have this little study group going on with some of the Ravenclaw's and some of the Hufflepuff's, where they would meet up in the library or another set location, and they would help each other with the subjects that they were struggling on. Syltherin's could join in as long as they remained neutral or didn't create any ordeals for the time they were together.
That was how Hermione became study partners/rivals with Slytherin's own Daphne Greengass, and surprisingly enough, Millicent Bulstrode - her bully from the Second Year - and they had had this... interesting relationship, where they weren't exactly fond of each other, but they were willing to put up with each other.
In a way, Harry leaving Hogwarts had probably changed Hogwart's and the interhouse rivalries for the better.
Gryffindor's and Slytherin's were a little more cordial with each other - not by much, but it was a difference to how they were previously - and even Hufflepuff had begun to exit their social barriers and started to intergrate and socialise with other houses, without the fear of being placed in the spotlight.
Ravenclaw's were still very competitive when it came to classes, and the House Cup. However, the attitude they possessed around others had changed as well, and they started to become more accepting of their housemates and peers, accepting their... unique quirks and style of learning.
They had realised that their way of seeing things was harsh, and very close-minded, and Harry leaving had been a massive wake-up call that not everyone was the same, academically, physically or mentally, and they had to see discouraging behaviour when they noticed how truly isolated the house was compared to the others - barring a few people within the house.
This in-turn had helped Luna Lovegood - a rather unique individual - in her third year stop being the target of bullying. Yet, it also helped all of the others that were getting bullied and suffering in silence.
Dumbledore sat in his chair within his office. The portraits had decided to either temporarily have a rest, or some of the other talkative ones decided to head off and visit some other portraits, which basically left Dumbledore alone, with Fawkes in his office on his little perch, trilling ever so softly that calmed his nerves.
Looking over his spectacles and at the paper in front of him, he couldn't help but feel a little enjoyment as he read the papers title from the Daily Prophet, 'Bartemius Crouch Junior, found dead at the Black Lake!'
As Dumbledore suspected, since Harry did not compete within the Second Task, the Goblet was going to punish Harry, however, since he did not enter his name within the Goblet, but the disguised Alistor did, he was on the recieving end of the punishment.
Which, involved the disguised Alistor Moody getting severly shocked, almost like electro-therapy, and it was so powerful, that one could smell his very skin start to burn. In the end, the Goblet had taken his life away, with continuos powerful shocks, which had melted his insides and fried his organs, and his skin was nearly charcoal in color when the punishment was finally finished.
During the sheer amount of pain, and unable to keep his concentration, nor was he able to ingest anymore Polyjuice potion, his disguise had worn off, revealing who he truly was to Hagrid, who had found him the next morning when he was skipping some stones by the lake.
Of course, with it being Hagrid, he had reported it straight to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore in-turn, had to alert the Aurors along with Madame Bones. With all of this juicy gossip and the rush of everything, a few reporters from the various news outlets couldn't help but follow after them, and they had gotten a massive scoop that was sure to bring in some readers and more Galleons.
Now, days after the infomation was let out to the public, Dumbledore had more frequent Floo calls by Minister Fudge, who was very panicked and was constantly pleading with Dumbledore for help. However, he wouldn't do it.
He had given his interview, along with other testimonies. Now, it was Fudge's turn to be under the spotlight, and to knock him down a few pegs.
'It seems as if Fudge is scrambling, trying to do everything he can to get this mess fixed.' Dumbeldore thought to himself, taking some pleasure in knowing that Minister Fudge was under a lot of stress, and even further embarrassment.
His stay in power wouldn't last much longer, as more and more of his skeletons that were hidden in his closet came out. So, he was scrambling around, trying his very best to appease the masses to stay in power.
HOOT
"Hmm?" He hummed out, looking towards the back of the office, where he saw a familar snowy white owl, looking a little worse for wear, "Ah, Hedwig." He greeted the snowy owl of Harry Potter before doing a swift hand motion.
Hearing her name being called and feeling herself allowed through the protective wards that surrounded Dumbledore's office, she had flown in, dropped off the piece of parchment that she was carrying, and stood at the edge of the desk, eyeing Dumbledore expectantly.
Chuckling lightly at the quirk of Harry's snowly owl, Dumbledore opened the top drawer of his desk and pulled out a small rasher of bacon that he had saved from breakfast earlier.
Placing the rasher of bacon in the palm of his hand, he extended towards Hedwig.
Hooting once in happiness, Hedwig grabbed the rasher of bacon and ate it with ease, before seemingly nodding her head and flying back out of the office, most probably to rest in the Owlery.
"What an interesting owl, Harry." He murmured out to himself, before he opened the letter carefully and pulled out the parchment. Although, to his surprise, there were actually two pieces of parchment, with one of them labelled, 'To Hermione Granger'.
Placing that letter on his desk to give to Hermione at the next best possible time, he started to read what Harry had sent him, a small smile on his face as he continued reading it.
Professor Dumbledore,
Once again I would like to thank you for allowing me to do this. Despite myself being in a foreign place, surrounded by many other dragons, I can say that I have loved it here. My mother had introduced me to the group, along with giving a very... detailed and gruesome threat to those that thought about harming me. So gruesome in fact that I wouldn't even wish it on Voldemort.
Settling into a new routine had been challenging, but I have grown accostumed to it. I spend some time with the eggs that are close to hatching, and spending some time with my new mother.
I have been making sure to continue with my studies, and I would be happy to show you when I come to visit within the coming weeks. I just got to let my mother know a day beforehand when I am leaving. She is very protective of me and will hardly let me out of her sight.
Dumbledore couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the way Harry was writing. He could tell that he was very excited to write this, going by how messy his writing was, and from the way he was wording things.
Although, something odd has been happening to me. It's almost like I can see in the dark now, and I get cold much more frequently, and I don't know what is happening, maybe it's something to do with the blood adoption ritual that she used on me? I would like to confirm with you if you or Madame Pomfrey could help me with this.
Mildly concerned, Albus had quickly wrote a small note to himself regarding checking on Harry with Poppy when he comes to visit in the near future. He really didn't want anything happening to him, and this seemed to be something of great importance to know fully what was happening.
If you could give the other piece of parchment to Hermione, that would mean a lot to me, I doubt Hedwig would be able to fly for a moment longer when you recieve this. I am looking forward to our meeting when it occurs.
Thanks,
Harry Potter
Finished reading the letter, Dumbledore placed it within the second compartment in his desk for safe-keeping. He was glad that Harry was looking forward to the meeting, and that he had kept his promise when it came to writing to him every so often.
"It seems as though I need to deliver Miss Granger a letter from Harry." He muttered to himself, popping a Lemon Drop in his mouth, before gazing towards Fawkes, who oddly enough was sound asleep now, he sighed to himself, it seemed as though Fawkes was getting closer to his Burning Day. Shaking his head, he casted a quick glance towards his rather intricate watch to see what time it was.
Perfect, he should arrive within the last moments of the class that Miss Granger was in.
Grabbing the letter from the desk, Dumbledore began his journey, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the peace of and queit of the corridors of the school.
Blinking a few times to get his eyes adjusted to the bright light compared to the rather dark cave, Harry couldn't help but give a small smile as he felt the suns rays land upon his body.
Hedwig wasn't around, as he had sent her with two letters back to Hogwarts two days ago. Hopefully she made it and she was still fine, and the letters were delivered.
It had been a few weeks since he had left Hogwarts and headed off towards the Dragon Reserve in Hungary, where his new mother was from. Of course, the ride to the place was boring, as he didn't have anything to do, but eventually, he had fell asleep after being bathed in his mother's warmth. Hedwig, surprisingly stayed up the entire flight, from what he was told.
When he arrived in the dragon reserve, the dragontamers had freed the Hungarian Horntail from her bindings - after placing her in a suitable position in the reserve for her to carry her eggs - and once she was free, he had heard them scuttle away, not wanting to risk the ire of the dragon.
If he was honest with himself, when he thought of a dragon reserve, he didn't know what to expect.
However, he was greeted with the most beautiful landscape, and probably place that he had ever seen. Lush green fields as far as the eye could see, a large forest where animals lived that the dragons could feel off, large ponds and rivers that were abundant and everywhere, there was even a massive mountain range that had a spectacular waterfall.
All in all, it looked like something out of a fairy tale, and how something like this stayed hidden to the eyes of the millions of people around the world was amazing.
"Hatchling."
Turning around to where he heard the massive footfalls of his mother, he saw that she looked relatively tired, perhaps at being woken up so early within the morning - the sun had hardly risen above the horizon, and the moon was still visible in the sky, yet to be replaced by the sun.
"Yes, mother?" He questioned his mother.
"Are you ready for breakfast, or do you want to bath first?"
Looking down at his current clothing, which consisted of last years Weasley sweater that had a golden 'H' on it, along with a simple pair of tracksuit pants, he gave a tentative sniff to his underarm. He knew that it probably wasn't the best way to decide if he needed to bath or not, but it was something at least, and he didn't smell that bad, he only smelt of ash and maybe a light layer of sweat.
He had a bath last evening before the sun fully set, so he didn't stink as bad as he normally did in the reserve. The fact that there was no A/C nor ceiling fans, so most of the time it was rather muggy and humid, which meant that he normally took a swim in one of the ponds near the den for some refreshment.
"Could we have breakfast first?" He asked.
"Fine." She said, puffing out a small plume of smoke from her nostrils, "However, after that, you need to bathe, can't have my hatchling smelling bad, can we?" She sarcastically finished, although the tone in her voice meant that there was no room for arguement against her, especially when she added the 'narrowed-eye' look.
Not like he ever wanted to get into an arguement with a near sixty foot long dragon that could swallow him without even noticing, nor char him to a crisp in a blink of an eye, "Yes, mother." He said, dipping his head at that, "Are you going to bathe with me again?" He asked, embarrassment clear in his voice and a slight flush on his cheeks.
It was still very awkward to get naked in front of his new mother, despite being different species, he felt rather exposed. It didn't help that she used her tongue to help clean him, apparently, her saliva had an interesting quality where it stopped from large amounts of sweat escaping his body, meaning that he stayed a little fresher for longer.
The only problem was that she made sure to put her tongue everywhere! Everywhere! He had never felt so... awkward nor embarrased before in his life when her tongue got to his mid-section.
"Of course, what mother doesn't bathe with her hatchling? I get to keep my eye on you, and I protect you from any dangerous predators." She said with a small huff, before grumbling under her breath that human mothers didn't do it right. Why let your precious hatchlings out of their sight when they are most vulnerable?
Shaking his head at the ideaology from his mother, he didn't let that comment rile him up, it was just her way of thinking about things, and the differences between species when it concerns their young that had her most... intrigued and sometimes surprised - either the good kind, or the bad kind.
Like how she found it absolutely stupid that a mother would leave her kids in an enviroment where they are looked after by total strangers, and were punished if they socialised with others.
"Mother." Harry started, climbing up on his mother who had lowered herself down to the ground for him to get on her back so she could fly around and find the perfect breakfast for her hatchling.
"Mmm?" She hummed out.
"In a few days time, I need to head back to Hogwarts." He said, not entirely sure how to word it properly, so he just said it, "It's part of the deal that I need to uphold that allowed me to live here with you." He added on quickly, letting her know that he wasn't 'leaving the nest', but it was something that he needed to do.
"How long will you be?" She finally asked, before slowly taking off in the air once she felt her human hatchling hold on tightly, "You know I don't like you leaving my sight." She added on quietly.
It was true, ever since Harry had entered the reserve and she had introduced him to the others - which she made sure to place her claws down on the rules when it concerned him or how to treat him - she hadn't let him out of her sight more than a handful of times.
The simple thought of him being away from her for any long period of time simply hurt her, and she didn't want to feel that.
"A day or two at most." He admitted, although he had no idea how long the meetings were, nor did he know how long Dumbledore would be mentoring him would take either, "I will come back the first chance I am allowed to go." He added on.
She seemed to sigh, "Alright. If it's absolutely necessary." She said, before sending him a glance out of the corner of her eye, "Just make sure to be safe. I don't want you to come home hurt."
"I promise, I will be fine."
With his reassurance, he gave a small kiss to one of his mothers scales, where she purred at feeling the contact made. With that, she had picked up some pace, flapping her mighty wings towards this mornings little breakfast ground.
