After getting Percy the Butterbeer and leaving like that, Audrey was mentally kicking herself. The truth is she remembered Percy well is because she had crush on from age 12 to 14. Well if she was really honest with herself it lasted longer than that, but after her father was eaten by that Chimera she went into long depression. It seemed to her that by the time she looked up to try and get back to a normal life that he was already dating that Ravenclaw girl.
Audrey hurried along back to her office trying not to think about Percy or anything else. She got to her desk and started eating her lunch and looking over some of the final paperwork for the Quidditch World Cup. And that is when her boss Ludo Bagman walked in.
“Audrey!” Mr. Bagman said. “Glad you are here. We need to discuss the Quidditch Awards Dinner.”
“Oh?” Audrey said knowing exactly what that was. Her father had taken her to that dinner a few times when she was younger, since he had played professional Quidditch.
“I know you get a little uneasy when I bring up your father.” Bagman said and Audrey shifted nervously in her seat. “But you do work for this department, and Dangerous Dai is still a favourite to the fans and players.”
“Mr. Bagman please just get to the point.” Audrey said sighing.
“All employees of the Department of Wizarding Games and Sports must attend the awards dinner.” Bagman said. “And I have been talking to several people, we would all like for you to present the award named after your father.” Audrey just sat quietly. “You may also bring a guest or a date.”
“That will not be necessary.” Audrey said. She was not dating anyone and most of whom she hung out with after work were all muggles, so she really had no one to bring. “Just let me know when and where.”
“The dinner is Friday August 26th, if the World Cup is over by them.” Bagman said. “At 6 in the evening.”
“Alright I shall be there.” Audrey said. “Also all the paper work is done.”
“Productive one are you.” Bagman said. “Fill this out for the dinner so they know what to serve you.” He placed a paper in front her. “And I found another book you should read.” He handed her book about more rules and regulations on Quidditch.
“This game is starting to have rules that contradict each other.” Audrey said looking at the book.
“Maybe you could make notes on them.” Bagman said. “And as you get promote you could talk about how to correct these rules.”
Sometime later Audrey was at her desk still reading the book when Mr. Bagman came in and said she could go home early. She looked at her watch and it was only 1:30 in the afternoon. This time of day her mother was usually out of the house so this meant she could just use Floo Powder to get home. And that is exactly what Audrey did.
At around 1:45 Audrey stepped out of her fire place and in her quant cottage living room. So glad to have some free time herself and saw her cat Pippin just lounging on the one chair. Pippin had been a gift from her grandma Audrellia when her father died. But then she heard the barking, her mother’s toy poodle Sasha was hiding in the door way scared from the mysterious fire and Audrey’s suddenly presence. This was not good, her mother should be out walking that little frou-frou dog.
Audrey looked around quickly, but luckily Lucille was not anywhere around, so it seems there was no chance she saw the magical entrance. But then she heard a loud owl screech from upstairs and her mother squeak and thud. Audrey raced up the L-shaped stairs to her bedroom. Up the stairs had a door on either side, the red door was closed, that had been her father’s room. Since Lucille moved in she had kept that room locked, to hide all the magical Quidditch stuff from her mother. The yellow door, which was Audrey’s bedroom, was open and she saw her mother getting up from the floor.
“Lucille?” Audrey said. “I’ve asked you not to come up here.”
“Audrey dear I am mother, you could at least call me such.” Lucille said. “And you are home early.”
“My boss let me leave early.” Audrey said. “What are you doing in my room?”
“I heard something strange, like squeaks.” Lucille said. “I was worried there a mouse or a rat.”
“It was just Gideon!” Audrey said going over and calming her long eared owl down. “And between Pippin and Gideon, I highly doubt I will ever have a mouse in this cottage.
“You have an owl?!” Lucille asked. “Is that even legal?”
“Yes.” Audrey sighed. “Dad bought Gideon for me when I was 11, and I was even allowed to take him to school with me.”
“Why would you need to take an owl to school with you?” Lucille asked as Audrey put the book on her desk and lead her mother back down stairs. “Wouldn’t you just have to bring him back home every day?”
“I went to boarding school.” Audrey said going to the kitchen to make some tea, on her very old fashioned wood burning cooking stove.
“Your father sent you away to school?!” Lucille said. “The schools in town seem more than adequate. And seriously why do you not upgrade that stove? Or just move to a more modern home? Fireplaces in most rooms and wood stove heating. The house does not even have electricity. Candles everywhere.”
“My house mother. Do you want tea?” Audrey asked sighing.
“Alright, but since you are home early, at least let me take you to dinner.” Lucille said. “We could invite that nice young man Ben. He is cute and he really likes you.”
“… We can go to dinner, Lucille.” Audrey said. “But ONLY us, no Ben.”
