“Ahhh oh wa ba ba ba ba ba ohhhhhhh!”
One year old Travis had one hand in his mouth and another
violently slamming a block into his teddy bear.
Ginny giggled at her son’s antics. He looked up at Ginny
with his beautiful blue eyes and smiled, showing off the few teeth he gained in
his first year of living.
“Why are you hurting mummy’s teddy bear sweetie,” Ginny
asked, attempting to take the bear away.
Travis’ face screwed up into a pout and he began to cry.
“Fine, alright, keep the teddy bear,” Ginny said leaving
the bear to take a brunt of the one year old’s attack.
Ginny looked over to Samantha who stared at her block tower
in concentration. The tower looked as if it was going to fall but that didn’t
deter the little girl.
She took a block that had a giant red ‘A’ on the side and
carefully placed it on the very top of her tower.
The tower collapsed a few seconds later. Samantha looked at
the pile of rubble and began to cry.
Standing, Ginny made her way over to the distraught child
and picked her up. The little girl cried for a few seconds longer before her
sobs were sniffles. She cuddled into Ginny’s breast and looked up at Ginny with
a bright smile.
Ginny smiled back and kissed her daughters’ chubby cheek.
She rubbed Samantha’s back, enjoying the rare quality time she could spend with
the young girl.
Samantha was a very independent baby, who typically liked
to keep to herself or spend time with Snape and Draco. It was rare for the baby
to allow Ginny to coddle her.
Ginny sang softly to Samantha and paced back and forth in
front of the fireplace of the Headgirl common room.
Ginny had just finished her NEWTS and was waiting for
Lucius and Snape to show up. Though it was a huge controversy, Dumbledore
ignored public outcry and made Ginny Headgirl. Her grades were more than
sufficient and she was simply one of the most popular girls in school, despite
her pregnancy.
In fact, when Ginny brought her children to the Welcoming
Feast, everyone crowded around her to see them. The little babies quickly
became welcome guests to meals and special events within common rooms. Everyone
loved the Snape babies and had nothing ill to say about them (and if they did
have something bad to say, they would likely have had to answer to Snape and
Lucius’ who were the most feared Professors in the school).
Snape continued teaching Potions and Lucius was added to
the staff as the DADA professor. At first it was a little weird for Ginny to be
in a class with her Professors being the men she shagged on a daily basis. But
with a little help from both men on setting boundaries in class, she was able
to get over that discomfort quickly.
Her relationship was going well with Snape and Lucius. Both
men wanted to get married and Ginny was all for it. It was decided that they
would marry after Ginny finished her 7th year so she wouldn’t have
to stress out about the wedding while worrying about NEWTS.
Now that Ginny was finished, she could plan her summer
wedding. Hermione, who gave birth to a beautiful baby boy the November before,
promised Ginny she would help her.
Hermione and Sirius had gotten married the summer before in
a small, intimate ceremony where only Hermione’s closest family and friends
were invited. After the summer, Hermione would be attending school while Sirius
would take care of the baby boy. Snape already agreed to take Hermione on as an
apprentice when she was finished with her schooling.
“Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba!”
Travis tired of the bear and crawled over to Samantha’s
blocks. He threw them across the room, giggling with glee.
Ginny rolled her eyes but didn’t stop Travis. He wasn’t
doing any harm and as long as he wasn’t crying as well, it was fine.
“Miss Weasley,” one of the head portraits said from over
the fire.
“Yes?” Ginny said absently, shifting Samantha in her arms.
“There’s a visitor outside waiting to see you. Should I let
them through?” it asked.
‘Hermione’s a
little early today,’ Ginny thought
furrowing her brow. ‘Oh well, no matter.’
“Let them in,” Ginny said, sparing a smile of appreciation
to the portrait.
The man within the picture bowed and left to bid her
request.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ginny saw Travis crawling
towards the stairs that led to her bedroom.
“Ba ba ba!”
“Travis no!” Ginny exclaimed, running toward him.
Samantha sat comfortably in Ginny’s arms, watching Travis
with a curious expression. Ginny noticed the look.
“Don’t you dare think about it Samantha Snape—I will not be
having you getting into all sorts of trouble like this one here,” Ginny
scolded.
The guest that asked for entrance into the room, in the
door way watching Ginny scoop Travis up with one arm. The little boy cooed
happily and settled into his mother’s arms.
The figure turned their head to the side slightly. There
was no doubt in this person’s mind that Ginny Weasley was beautiful. Her figure
was full and curvy, probably from having the twins.
Her hair fell down her back in elegant, glossy curls. She
wore expensive burgundy robes that did everything to accent whatever good
attributes she had.
She had a heart shaped face with big brown eyes that spoke
of an inner strength that wasn’t seen in many people.
The figure watched as Ginny walked over to a large play pen
on the other side of the room. She placed each of the children in it, letting
out a sigh of relief when they simply crawled to the toys provided to them in
the pen instead of crying.
The children were adorable little buggers. The little boy
had bright red hair and blue eyes with a dusting of freckles on his chubby
cheeks. The little girl had black hair and brown puppy dog eyes. The little boy
seemed to love entertaining himself and those around him while the little girl
seemed more solitary and pensive.
The figure decided, as Ginny turned away from the play pen,
that it was time for them to present themselves.
Ginny turned from the play pen, ready to greet Hermione.
She froze when she saw who the real visitor was.
The man was very tall, with short salt and pepper hair,
dark eyes and a pale complexion. He didn’t smile, nor did he offer any
introduction—indeed, he just stood there, staring at her.
He looked familiar but Ginny couldn’t quite put her finger
on where she had seen him before.
“Can I help you?” she asked, fighting the urge to twist her
fingers in a nervous gesture.
The man stared a Ginny for a few more moments before
speaking.
“I believe you can,”
The man drew himself up to his full height and looked down
his nose at Ginny.
“My name is Tobias Snape and I’m here to see my son’s new
family,”
Ginny simply stared at the man, the connection quickly
clicking into place. She couldn’t believe it.
‘What in the hell
is Snape’s dad doing here,’ Ginny’s mind
screamed.
“With all due respect sir, Severus told me you wanted
nothing to do with the family,” Ginny said finding her voice.
The man snorted.
“I said no such thing—Severus simply assumed that theory
because of my lack of responses to his letters. Before I was too tied up in …
business to see the children but after gaining some extra time off, I decided
to come here and see my grandchildren,”
Ginny’s mind was working a mile a minute. She knew nothing
about Tobias Snape for Severus never talked about the absent man. From the bits
and pieces of conversation she had before, Snape’s father wasn’t dangerous—he
was simply a man who had too many women, too much anger and not enough love for
his family.
“Would you like some tea Mister Snape?” Ginny finally
asked.
“That would be welcome,” the elder Snape said.
Ginny rang for a house elf and placed her order. As she was
doing that, Tobias went to the play pen and watched his grandchildren play.
Travis ignored his presence, happily chewing on some sort
of doll with blonde pig tails.
Samantha on the other hand, stared at Tobias curiously.
The staring contest went on for a long moment before the
little girl raised her arms up, a universal signal that every baby gave in
order to be held by their person of choice.
Tobias—cold hearted pureblood Slytherin—could not resist
her brown eyes. He picked her up, cradling her carefully within his arms.
Samantha smiled at him and grabbed his nose, squeezing it
with her wet hand.
Tobias grimaced and gently made the little girl let go of
his nose. He reached into the play pen and grabbed a block.
He placed it in her hands and couldn’t stop smiling as she
grabbed it and started chewing on it.
Ginny watched the whole scene in awe. She was led to
believe by Snape that his father was a sadistic asshole like Sebastian.
Yet, watching the older man interact with her daughter was
proof enough to Ginny that maybe there was more to Tobias Snape than people
gave him credit for. Babies did tend to bring out the best light in some
people.
It was because of his gentle treatment of her daughter that
she decided she was going to be completely civil with Tobias Snape.
“Please Mister Snape, have a seat,” Ginny said, spreading
her hands to the couch sitting conveniently in front of a table filled with
different things for tea.
Tobias inclined his head and made his way over to the
couch.
Ginny went to the play pen and picked up Travis (and
Travis’ slimy doll) so that the little boy wouldn’t feel lonely alone.
It was an almost comical at how long it took for Ginny to
make tea for Tobias. Travis was a right nuisance, spilling the milk and sugar
and crawling in places he didn’t belong when she was trying to clean things up.
Tobias couldn’t help but chuckle a few times. It seemed he
picked up the right baby. Samantha was sitting in his lap happily chewing on
her toy.
By the time Ginny finally got Tobias’ tea ready the right
way, the portrait door opened, revealing Snape, Lucius, Hermione, little Sirius
Jr. and Serena.
The small group was murmuring and laughing. It took them a
second to realize Ginny the twins and Tobias.
Snape’s expression quickly turned dark.
Tobias looked at Snape blankly, absently removing
Samantha’s cubby hand from his tea cup.
“Father—to what do we owe the pleasure,” Snape asked,
stepping away from the group.
“Good day to you as well Severus. If you must know, I came
to visit my grandchildren,” Tobias said.
Snape simply stared at his father, his fist clenching at
his sides.
Ginny did not like where this was going.
“Hey Serena, Hermione, I have something that I simply have
to show you for the wedding in my bedroom,” she said.
She scooped Travis up and bound up the stairs, knowing the
girls would follow closely behind.
“It was nice to meet you Mister Snape—I hope to see you
again soon,” she called over her shoulder.
Soon the room only held Snape, Tobias, Samantha and Lucius.
“It is nice to
finally meet you Mister Snape. Severus has told us quite a lot about you,”
Lucius said slyly.
“I’ve heard quite a bit about you myself Mister Malfoy,”
Tobias said with a smirk.
Lucius raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything more on
the matter.
“If you will excuse me Mister Snape, I believe Samantha and
I are due for a little walk around Hogwarts,”
He walked over to Tobias and scooped the little girl out of
the elder man’s arms.
Samantha began to cry at being taken away from Tobias. Her
cries didn’t faze Lucius (one grew used to them after a year of hearing them
constantly).
Instead he bounced her in his arms and began to murmur
softly to her.
The entrance to the portrait closed heavily behind Lucius.
Snape eyed Tobias wearily before sitting in the place Ginny
occupied before.
The room was almost painfully silent as the two men studied
each other.
“The twins are beautiful Severus—as is your mate. She’s
gracious, polite, beautiful and a pureblood. You couldn’t have chosen better,”
Tobias said.
Snape glared.
“I didn’t choose her—she chose me. And she’s not my only
partner, Lucius is as well. But that’s beside the point. What are you doing
here? And don’t give me any bullshit on seeing your grandchildren—it has been
nearly a year and I have written you countless letters to invite you to see
them,” Snape spat.
Tobias sighed.
“I came to tell you that I have done the paper work and
made you rightful heir to the Snape name,”
Snape simply raised an eyebrow.
“What of Sebastian?” he asked distastefully.
Tobias grimaced.
“At first I came back home, in hopes that I could be able
to get him out of prison in a couple of years. When I saw him, I knew that it
was best to simply let him stay. I simply don’t understand how Sebastian turned
out the way he did—I raised him to be strong and there he was in his prison
cell broken,” Tobias said.
Snape snorted and stood from his seat. He began to pace in
front of the fire, mindful that his father simply hated when he paced.
“You and I both know he couldn’t have possibly kept the
Snape line strong—chances are he’d die anyway and it would be passed onto you
regardless. I was simply being proactive,” Tobias said.
Snape was silently seething at his father’s mini speech.
He stopped pacing and faced him father with his face
unnaturally red.
“You want to know what happened to your precious Sebastian
father—he got cocky. I brought Ginevra home for the holidays so that she could
acquaint herself with the family. Sebastian, being the filthy slug that he was
tried to seduce her into his bed. She refused. Your spoiled son decided that he
would get her one way or another. He had the audacity to go to the Dark Lord
and request to participate in Ginevra’s initiation,”
By this time, Snape was pacing again, reliving the intense
pain and emotions of the War with Voldemort.
“He raped Ginevra brutally and like a coward, beat her when
she knew she couldn’t fight back after she rejected him. He kidnapped her for
close to three months when he realized he couldn’t charm her like he did other
women. Ginevra finally got away from him,”
Snape turned to face his father with cold sneer.
“Do you want to know why your precious Sebastian is a
broken shell? He was taken the same way Ginevra was the day of her
initiation—he couldn’t take it. Since then, even though he has healed
physically, he can’t bring himself to talk. I say good riddance to the smooth
talking flea bag!”
Tobias tilted his head to the side and really looked at
Snape.
“I always knew your hatred of me would never go away
despite the years that have passed,” Tobias said quietly.
Snape simply glared at his father.
“Oh joy—it’s nice to realize that you finally how shitty of
a father you have been to me,” Snape said coldly.
“No—I will be the first to admit that I was a little too …
unbalanced and absent in my parenting habits. But I had my reasons for that,”
Tobias said, pouring himself more tea.
“I want none of your excuses. I’m fully prepared to cut you
from my life for good father,” Snape said.
Tobias went on as if Snape didn’t say anything.
“I couldn’t stay around with the Dark Lord in power. I saw
what he did to my friends—what kinds of puppets he made them out to be,”
Tobias leaned back in his chair, his tea cup sitting firmly
in his hands.
“I knew too late that I joined a crazy manic. There was no
way I could get away without me and my family being killed. Both your mother
and I decided that it was best for me to leave the country, giving the Dark
Lord money so he wouldn’t bother us,”
Snape sat down, staring at his father curiously. The things his father was
talking about he had never heard before.
“I thought I saved all you from harm—until the Dark Lord
called me and told me he wanted both you and Sebastian to join his army. It was
then that I realized I had to raise both of you to be resilient and strong. If
I didn’t you would both be dead right now,”
Tobias looked away from the fire and gazed directly into
Snape’s eyes.
“I’m sorry to say I was too good at raising you both to be
cold as you both grew to hate me,”
Snape stayed silent, staring into the fire with a blank
expression on his face. Tobias knew that look—it was the look of a man deep in
thought.
“I’m here for two reasons Severus. The first reason is to
give you some peace. You have so much hate and anger towards me for my actions.
I’m not sorry for being the way that I was—I had to do what I did to protect
you. I lived with the fact that possibly you or Sebastian wouldn’t survive or
that both of you would survive and grow to hate me but those were the
consequences to my stupid actions.
“Even though you have found love Severus, you still have a
deep seeded anger within you that you just won’t let go. I’m telling you right
now Severus that the most destructive thing you can do to your family is to
stay angry at me. You have two beautiful children and two partners that would
do anything for you. Take what they have to offer you and let go of the anger
you have for me—it will only destroy you and your family in the end,”
Snape stood again and leaned against the fireplace mantle.
The silence in the room was deafening.
“What is your second reason for coming here?” Snape finally
asked into the silence.
“After visiting Sebastian and seeing where he turned up, I
realized that I lost one son already—I couldn’t stand to lose you and your new
family as well. I don’t expect you to accept me into your life like nothing
happened but I do hope you can find it in you to forgive me for the pain and
anger that I have caused you,” Tobias said.
Snape stared at a picture of the twins on the mantle,
tracing the frame as the two babies giggled in the picture.
“Why didn’t you answer my letters,” Snape asked.
“I knew you would not take my presence well after the Dark
Lord’s demise. You needed time,”
Snape hated to admit to himself that his father was right.
If Tobias had come to him a year earlier and tried to talk to him he would have
killed the older man first and asked questions later.
Now that time had passed, he simply felt a dull throb of
pain and anger when thinking of his father.
For Tobias to come to him and ask him to ask for
forgiveness and to be a part of his life once again was nothing short of a
miracle. The older man was merciless and at times downright evil.
Still, there were signs that Tobias Snape had a good heart,
the biggest being how he treated his grandbabies after his first meeting with
them.
Snape didn’t know what he wanted but deep down he knew that
his father was right. His anger did nothing but make his life hell. He thought
back to all the times he lashed Ginny and his past crush, Lily in anger and
hurt only to have it back fire when they retaliated against him. He didn’t want
the same happening after he got married or as his kids got older.
“Give me time,” Snape said after a long silence.
Tobias set his tea cup down and stood. He grabbed Snape’s
shoulders and squeezed them affectionately before walking out of the common
room.
A month later, Tobias got an invitation to his son’s
wedding.
