Hermione had just settled behind her desk when her mobile rang.
"Well that was fast." She laughed when she'd picked up the phone.
Ginny laughed along with her friend. "Lucius Malfoy is a lot of things, but indecisive isn't one of them."
"So are we on for dinner?"
"That and he was hoping you wouldn't mind if we joined you for furniture shopping?"
"Furniture shopping?" Hermione repeated, confused. "What do you need to go furniture shopping for? Is there something you're not telling me?"
"No, no. Nothing like that." Ginny laughed. "Remember I told you he bought a B&B in Ramsey?"
"I do."
"Well it seems all the construction work is complete and it's time to pick out the furniture."
"Oh fun." Hermione exclaimed. "We can make a day of it. I know Severus won't mind."
Ginny settled herself on the stool that was behind the counter as she and Hermione began to make a list of the shops they wanted to visit. She was deep in conversation when the doorbell over the shop door chimed. Standing up, she felt her heart skip a beat and a chill run down her spine.
.
"Bloody hell." She murmured. "What the fuck is she doing here?"
"What?" Hermione said from the other end of the phone. " Who? What's wrong Ginny?"
"Marissa." Ginny hissed into the phone. "She's just walked into the shop."
"Lucius' ex?" Hermione gasped.
"The very same. Shite. I have to go." And she hung up the phone.
Ginny laid her mobile aside and watched as the tall, elegant woman looked around the store, distaste clearly written on her face.
"May I help you." Ginny said, standing up straight, her back rigid as the woman approached the counter.
"Oh Heavens." The American laughed. "There's nothing in this store I could ever want. I just stopped by to check out the competition."
"Competition?" Ginny repeated, unable to keep the look of shock from her face. "I thought you were leaving, going back to America."
"I was." Marissa said. "But then I thought about it and I changed my mind. I love him too much to just let him go without a fight. And there is no way in hell I'm losing him to a plain little girl like you."
Ginny face flushed crimson and her knuckles turned white as she fisted her hands on the counter. 'Who does this bloody cow think she is?' She thought, as she struggled to remain calm.
Taking her silence as weakness, Marissa continued with her taunts. "I will never be convinced that a man like Lucius has fallen in love with a mere shop girl like you. You aren't even that pretty. I'm sure you're good for a fuck. How old did he say you are? 20? You're younger then Draco for Christ's sake. What man doesn't want to fuck a tight little teenager. But love you? That's laughable."
Ginny's voice shook with controlled rage. She wanted nothing more then to come across the counter and beat this sneering woman with her bare hands. "For your information. I am not just a "shop girl". This is my business, or perhaps you didn't notice my name over the door when you walked in."
"Oh well la ti da." Marissa hissed. "So you own a cute little joke shop. Lucius and I deal in high finance. We can make or break a little store like this just for the hell of it. You know nothing about him."
"Marissa!"
Both Ginny and Marissa started at the sharp tone of Lucius Malfoy. They had both been so engaged, that neither had heard the shop door open and close. Lucius stood behind Marissa, looking impressive and formidable in his black velvet robes.
"Come with me Marissa." He said, turning on his heel and heading towards the door. "It seems there are some things you and I need to discuss."
Marissa smiled evilly at Ginny, before flipping her long black hair over her shoulder and following him out of the shop.
When the door closed behind them, Ginny let out the breath she'd been holding. Her hands begin to shake and tears streamed down her face. She struggled to regain control of herself as she made her way to the back of the shop.
"Ginny! What's wrong?" George gasped when he saw the tear stained face of his sister.
"Lu, Lu, Lucius." She stuttered through her tears. "Old girlfriend. Just left with her."
"What? The woman from the Ministry Ball? She was here?"
Ginny sobbed and nodded her head. "He just left with her."
"Why?"
"I don't know." Ginny whimpered. "I don't even know why he was here. He's supposed to working at home." She covered her hands with her face.
"Oh Ginny." George sighed, wrapping his little sister up in his arms. "I'm sure it's not how it seems. Go on home for the rest of the day."
"Are you sure?" She asked, wiping her face with her hand.
"Of course I'm sure." George said, releasing her from his embrace. "You're no good to work in this condition. Wouldn't want you scaring off the customers with all this boo hooing."
Ginny tried to smile at her brother's attempt at humor, but it came out more of a grimace. "Thanks George."

Lucius led Marissa down the street to the Leaky Cauldron, he opened the door and held it for her, before leading her to a back table.
"Two fire whiskey's." He told the waitress brusquely. He waited until they had arrived and he had taken a long sip before he spoke. "Why are you harassing Ginny?" He demanded, staring across the table.
"I wasn't harassing her." Marissa laughed. "I was merely engaging in a conversation with her."
"Fine." He growled, his teeth clenched. "Why were you engaging her in a conversation?"
"I'm not giving up on us Luc." Marissa said gently, leaning forward to grab his hands. "I want you back."
Lucius shook his head slowly, pulling his hands away from hers. "There is no 'us' Marissa. It's over."
"No. It can't be." She hissed at him. "We were happy together. You love me."
"Oh Marissa." He sighed sadly. "I am very sorry. I really do not wish to hurt you. But I wasn't happy when we were together. I was miserable. I hated my life, my situation and myself. I never even knew how miserable I was until I met Ginny."
"You're lying. You said you loved me."
"And at the time, I thought I did." He tossed back his drink and set it down on the table. "But I now realize I had no idea what love felt like. Now I do. I know what it feels like to be truly happy."
"I refuse to except this." Marissa said, standing up and glaring at him across the table. "I will not lose you to some pathetic teenager."
"Sit down." Lucius roared so loudly that several patrons turned to stare at them.
Marissa slowly lowered herself back into her seat. A look of fear colored her elegant features.
"Now." He said slowly, struggling to hold his temper. "I am willing to take complete blame in this matter. I am the bastard. I am the arsehole. But there is no hope for us, no future whatsoever. I love Ginny and I demand that you leave her alone." His voice softened as he stared at her. "I am sorry. I never meant to hurt you. But I am begging you, please just go home and leave us be."
Marissa sat, struggling to hold back tears, struggling to regain her composure. "You really mean this, don't you?"
"I have never been more earnest in my life."
"Severus said you were happy. Happier then he's ever seen you.'"
"He's right. I am."
She shrugged her shoulders. " I suppose I needed to hear you say it. You look good." She sighed, smiling sadly up at him. "Time has been kind to you."
"And to you as well. You are as elegant as ever."
"Well," She said, brushing invisible crumbs off the table, "that's it." She picked up her whiskey and drank it down in one gulp. "I guess I'll be going now." She stood slowly, her eyes downcast. "I won't bother you again."
"Marissa." Lucius stood and grabbed her arm. "I do wish you every happiness."
She frowned and nodded her head. "Good bye Lucius."
Lucius sank heavily in his seat and watched as she made her way towards the door. Signaling the waitress he ordered another fire whiskey and drank it down in one gulp. "Fuck." He murmured softly to himself as he placed the glass back on the table.

"Where's Ginny?" Lucius demanded as he strode purposefully into the joke shop.
"Sent her home in tears." George said, pulling himself to his full height and glaring at the blonde wizard across the counter. "She was practically hysterical. Going on about you and your ex-girlfriend. What have you done to her Malfoy?"
"Nothing." Lucius growled in frustration. "I haven't done anything to her. It is all just a misunderstanding. May I use your floo."
George nodded his head. "Back room. I swear Malfoy if you hurt her, I'll hex you within an inch of your life. I don't care how powerful you are."
"Dually noted." Lucius called back over his shoulder as he rushed towards the back room.
Grabbing a hand full of powder he called out the address.
"Merlin's Beard." He roared when he found himself still standing in the Weasley's backroom. "Fuck. Not again." Turning sharply on his heel he disapparated to an alley several blocks away from Ginny's house.
Leaving the alley, he turned and headed down the street with his black robes billowing behind him. He gritted his teeth as car horns honked and catcalls came from the passing traffic.
"...It's a bit early for Halloween ain't it mate?"
"...nice cape. Can you fly too?"
"...look it's Dracula."
Cursing under his breath, he turned down the correct street and stormed his way towards the house.

Ginny jumped when a loud banging rattled through the house.
"BANG, BANG, BANG." Lucius' shouts of rage followed. "Ginevra Molly Weasley. Open this fucking door right now."
She crept into the living room as he pounded on the door again.
"BANG, BANG, BANG. I swear to Merlin if you don't open this fucking door I will tear it down with my bare hands."
