Hermione’s stomach was in knots as she climbed the stairs to the Headmaster’s office. Her head was still spinning from that morning. She was pregnant. It just didn’t seem real, and yet she had dreamed just that every night, a little girl with Draco’s beautiful platinum hair. She knew as soon as Madam Pomfrey had said she was pregnant that she was keeping it. To know that Draco wanted it just as much as she did… she couldn’t even describe it.
She and Draco would need to be married soon to make sure the child would be considered a Malfoy. Snape had explained that the wizarding world usually considered children conceived out of wedlock to be illegitimate but if the couple married before it was known, the rule was overturned. Since she was so early, they could get married right away and not worry about it.
It still felt like she was forcing him into this. She knew in her heart that she was ready for this. She had no family to speak of but he did and she hated to think that she would be breaking them apart, no matter how they felt about her. He’d insisted that he was fine with this though and if he was, then she was too.
“Ah, Miss Granger, do come in,” Dumbledore said after she knocked on his door frame.
Draco was already there along with Snape but she hadn’t expected her friends to be there as well. Harry looked at her expectantly whereas Ron looked angry. Ginny was simply curious and Luna still had the same dreamy expression on her face. A confused Neville had joined them as well. She didn’t understand.
“I didn’t want to have to explain this a dozen times,” Draco said before she could speak. “I figured this was the quickest way. We should be out of here by dinner.”
She nodded and walked into his arms, sighing when he held her closer. She really hoped that her friends took this well. Harry, bless him, already knew. He’d been the one to run for Draco when she panicked. The others, she wasn’t so sure about them. Ron looked like he was trying to say something but couldn’t.
“I’ve hexed his mouth shut,” Snape said, catching her questioning glance. “Perhaps he will use his ears when he can’t spout off at the mouth.”
Ginny snorted. “Good luck with that. Now, why are we here, as if I can’t guess?”
Draco sighed. “You’re here because we wanted to announce that… that we’re getting married.”
Everyone’s mouth dropped open, well, except for the professors. They already knew. Ron turned purple he was trying so hard to shout. It was Luna that spoke for everyone.
“Congratulations.”
Hermione couldn’t help but smile. “Thank you Luna.”
“Why?” Harry finally managed to stutter out. “You two just started, erm, dating. Why not see how that goes first?"
Draco pulled her in closer, a protective gesture she realized. She wasn’t so sure she could say anything. She didn’t have to worry though because Draco put his hand on her stomach and Ginny squealed, realizing what was going on.
“Oh my Gods, you’ve knocked her up!”
Ron lunged at Draco, more than likely intending to knock him out. Before anyone could get a hex off, Snape had him pinned to the floor.
“Mr. Weasley, I strongly suggest that you desist this instant!”
“Ron, stop!” Harry ordered when the red head kept thrashing around. “He didn’t take advantage of her. It was mutual. He’s owning up to it and he’s going to take care of her… or at least he better.”
“I will Potter,” Draco said quietly. “I’d rather die than hurt her.”
“There, see?” Harry said. “Now stop.”
Ron went limp but Snape wasn’t willing to take chances. He allowed him to sit up but stuck him to the floor after disarming him just in case. He stood back up as if nothing happened and glided across the room, his eyes landing on Hermione’s stomach. He let a brief smile come across his face.
Hermione ached for the vampire. It was obvious that he had a soft spot for children, having one of his own. Though he didn’t show it, she thought he had a soft spot for them as well. Perhaps it was the thought that they had conceived their child in the same place he had all those years ago. She hoped that Venus would surface soon.
“Now that we have established that Draco and Hermione wish to marry,” Dumbledore said, “we need to determine a date.”
“As soon as possible,” Draco breathed.
Dumbledore nodded. “Would tonight go amiss?”
“Can they even do that?” Harry asked.
“They are both of age,” Dumbledore said. “There is nothing standing in their way.”
“Except Lucius,” Harry muttered.
She felt Draco tremble for a moment before he spoke. “Fuck him. He doesn’t matter anymore.”
Everyone in the room gasped. Draco was as serious as the grave and they knew it. She felt her heart swell. He was willing to turn his back on his father, the man he’d tried to emulate his entire life, for her… and their baby. She stood on her tip toes and brought his face down for a kiss. She wasn’t sure she could speak at the moment and thought it would be better to show him how much his admission meant to her. He answered her back tenfold, picking her up and cradling her.
A cleared throat kept her from getting too carried away. “Are you okay with tonight then?”
Draco gave her a questioning look as he sat her back down. She could tell that he would wait but she found she didn’t want to anymore. The weeks spent in the ROR had brought them closer together than years of dating ever would have. After what they’d seen, she was ready. She nodded and he grinned, spinning her around in happiness.
“Very good,” Dumbledore said. “We’ll meet back here after curfew then. I’m guessing you’d like to keep this quiet for a while.”
Draco nodded. “I want everything settled and iron clad before father finds out. He can’t meddle if he doesn’t know about it. But… um… could we hold the wedding somewhere else?”
“Wherever you’d like.”
Draco caught Hermione’s eye and she knew immediately what he wanted. It was strange, but she agreed. They’d get married in the room that had opened their eyes and brought them closer together.
“The Room of Requirement,” they spoke together, ignoring the loud protests of Hermione’s friends.
“So be it,” Dumbledore said. “Now, I believe it is almost time for dinner.”
Hermione and Draco waited until everyone filed out to leave. Well, everyone but Ron. Snape refused to release the sticking charm, citing his fear that Ron would inadvertently hurt the baby in his misdirected anger. Hermione was sad to have to agree. Ron was dangerously close to blowing his top and she was afraid he might hurt the baby or Draco in the following scuffle.
“Not to worry Miss Granger,” Dumbledore said quietly. “Mr. Weasley and I are going to have a chat.”
Hand in hand, they walked to the Great Hall, not caring who saw. Draco figured they had the best chance of any couple in history. They’d just fought a war over blood purity and there was the prophecy to consider. If that wasn’t enough of a catalyst to change the world, then there never would be.
They were about to enter when a discrete clearing of a throat caught their attention. They turned to see a figure covered in a black cloak.
“Excuse me. Could you help me? I’m looking for someone.”
“Sure,” Hermione said slowly. Something about the feminine voice sounded familiar. “Who?”
The figure lowered her hood, revealing jet black hair and emerald green eyes. “Severus Snape?”
“Oh Merlin,” Hermione breathed. “Venus?” The woman looked scared so Hermione pressed on very quickly. “He’s been looking everywhere for you. Come on, we’ll find him for you.”
“No need,” Snape drawled from behind them. His eyes were alight with joy. “My precious little flower.”
“Daddy!”
