Chapter 41 Playing is a private affair

By Thursday morning, Sky was complaining about having to stay in bed. Severus and Effy were forced to take it in turns to stay with her and make sure she did not get up, although Effy�s stints were considerably longer than Severus�, mainly because he did not know how to entertain her. After lunch, Severus needed to see Albus and left Effy alone with Sky.
Fifteen minutes after he entered Albus� office, an elf appeared.

�I is sent by Effy to tell the Snape that miss Sky is not been good, she is going out the wall and ordering Effy to goes away.� The elf disappeared before Severus could respond, it was terrified of being punished for passing bad news on to the Snape.
�Bloody hell Albus, I�ll have to go find her. Why can she not just do as she is told and stay in bed?�
�She reminds me a lot of you Severus, just ask Poppy.�
Severus was the worst kind of patient. Poppy had to fight to keep him in bed in the past when he was recovering from his regular bout of the cruciatus or after a severe flogging, courtesy of the Dark Lord.
Severus gave him a dirty look and stalked from the room. On entering his study, he found Effy waiting for him and wringing her hands.
�Oh Sir the miss is not listening to Effy, she is saying she is fed up and orders Effy to leave.�
�Where the hell did she go?�
�She is going on the broom.�
�She what? Hooch.�
He left the dungeons at a run, almost knocking students out of his way as he headed for the main entrance, he dashed across the grounds to where Madam Hooch normally gave her flying lessons.

As he rounded the corner of the castle, he saw her, sitting on the grass and pleading with Hooch to let her fly, saying she felt fine and how much easier it would be to sit a broom rather then have to walk, when walking was so painful.
However, Freya Hooch was having none of it. �Sky you are not fit to hold a broom at the moment, never mind fly one. You can�t even stand girl, never mind fly and I refuse to give you another lesson until you are fully recovered.�

�Ah Severus I�m glad you�re here.�
�Thank you Freya, I�m glad you had the sense not to let her fly.�
�Severus you followed me, I�m not going back to bed, I�m going nuts stuck in that room.�
�You will do as you are told, as for flying, you will not be doing any in the foreseeable future.�
�What? Why? That�s not fair, I�m good at it, Freya said so, and I want to get better at it.�
�I shall explain when you are safely tucked up in your bed.� Without giving her chance to argue further, he swept her into his arms and carried her back to the school.
�Please Severus, don�t, at least let me walk.�
�No.�
�Why not? I got here didn�t I? I can get back.�
�No.�
Well can I stay with you while you visit Albus then?�

�No.�
�Well what about ��
�No.�
Sky glared in the direction they were walking. �Our bedroom at Hogwarts?�
�What about it?�
�Can I stay there.�
�No.�
�The Infirmary with Madam Pomfry?�
Severus didn�t say anything, he was thinking. It might be a good idea to leave her with Poppy while he met with Albus, the nurse would not stand any nonsense from Sky and she could not be ordered away like Effy.

�Do you promise to behave?�
�Yes. Yes I do.�
�Stay in bed? Do what Poppy tells you, without argument?�
�Yes I promise, please Severus.�
�Perhaps, if Poppy is willing to watch over you, if she is busy then you are back in the wall and you stay there.�
�Okay, I promise.� She told him.
�I shall think about it.�
�What? But we�re almost there, Severus that�s ��
�I have given the matter some serious consideration, and yes, you may stay with Poppy, but only under the conditions I have already stated. I do not suppose it will do any harm.�
Sky flung her arms round his neck. �Thank you Severus.�
He noticed her grip was not very strong, normally when she flung her arms round him like that, she practically strangled him.
�Severus?�
�What now woman?�
�I�d like to walk into the castle.�

He narrowed his eyes at her. �Do not push your luck.�
She sighed, when he used that tone there was no changing his mind. She suddenly noticed that her slim down charm had worn off and tried to curl up a bit so he wouldn�t notice.
�What on earth are you doing? I almost dropped you, now lie still.�
She was panicked, what if he saw her fat? She took her arms from around his neck and tried to casually drape them across her stomach.
Nevertheless, he noticed. �Do not try and hide it again Sky, I already know.�
�What do you know?�
�About the fact you have been casting charms on yourself to hide your growing belly, well it stops right now. I order you to stop Sky.�

�What? Why? I look fat and ugly, you won�t like me any more.�
With a sigh, he stopped walking and sat on the steps that led up to the main doors, Sky on his lap.

�Sky, you are not fat.�
�Yes I am, I�m horrible.�
�You are beautiful, to me you will always be beautiful. In several months you will be even bigger then you are now and I will still feel the same.�
�No, I won�t be. I�ll find some way to get �un-fat.�
He chuckled. �Sky listen to me, your belly is growing yes, but it is not fat.�
�What is it then?�
He put his hand on her stomach and looked deep into her eyes. �Sky that is our baby growing in there.�
She half smiled and gave a nervous laugh. �No. How? In there? How could a baby get in there?�
Now he laughed. �Sky when we made love, every time I entered you and came inside of you, I released sperm. One of those sperms joined with one of your eggs and became a baby.�
�No that�s silly, I haven�t got eggs, I�m not a chicken. Severus stop mucking about.�
He knew he was going to have difficulty explaining this to her, he just knew it. �Poppy will explain it better then me.� He stood and carried her into the school as she kept giving him peculiar looks.
She was glad there were no students about when he carried her up the stairs to the infirmary. She would hate to be seen carried like this.

�Severus.�
�Hmm?�

�What happened to me? Why am I ill?�
�You were attacked by a Re'em.�
Her eyes widened. � Re'em. When? I don�t remember that.�
�Tuesday morning, and it is probably best that you do not remember Sky. You almost �I thought I had lost you.�
She blanched and her eyes widened.
Severus hurried his pace, not liking the pallor of her skin. �Damn, why did he go and tell her that now?�
When he crashed through the infirmary, doors Poppy came rushing towards him.
�Severus what is it? Has something happened?�
�She tried to persuade Freya to give her a flying lesson when she should not even have been out of bed, add to that she is pregnant and has just discovered the reason she is so ill. It has all come as a bit of a shock.�
�On here Severus.� The nurse stood by a bed close to her office. �I would imagine it has yes, how far along is she?�
�I have no idea.� He told her as he laid Sky on the bed. �I only recently found out myself and Sky does not understand what is going on Poppy, I am hoping you can explain things to her.�
�What do you mean she doesn�t understand? She�s a grown woman Severus, of course she un ��
�No Poppy, she does not. Her life has been very �different to most. She has no idea about making babies and such.�
Sky�s head was darting back and forth from one to the other of them as they spoke. �Is someone gonna tell me what your talking about? Other then the fact that I�m supposed to have a baby inside me.�
Professor and nurse both stopped talking to turn and look at Sky.
�I shall leave you to it, I should be finished by the time classes� end for the day.� Severus told Poppy.

He leaned in to kiss his wife and stood. �You do as Poppy tells you, and stay in that bed until I return.�

He turned and left the infirmary, leaving Poppy to explain everything he could not, or rather did not want to. As far as he was concerned, this was woman�s talk, not something a man should have to discuss.
Poppy quickly did a quick scan of her patient. �You�re doing unbelievably well, considering it is only two days since that incident with the Re'em. Whatever possessed you to go in the pen with it?�

�I�m not sure, I don�t really remember anything.�
�Well I dare say it will come back to you, but it won�t be pleasant when it does. Severus will have to make sure you have some dreamless sleep potion when the memories do start coming back. Now, about this baby, this really is wonderful news.�

�Is it? Severus said it�s inside me, that I have eggs.�
Poppy sat on the seat beside the bed and studied her for a moment. �Have you had any kind of sex education Sky?�
�Yeah, Rowena told me. She said men like to wank because it feels nice and that the man puts his thing in the woman because it�s nicer, it is too, have you tried it? Me and Severus do it loads.�
Poppy almost fell of her chair. �Oh �erm right �well ��
�You haven�t have you? You should.�
�Sky is that the only sex education you�ve had?�
�Yeah, why, what else is there?�

�A whole lot more, now, first things first, when was your last period?�

�My what?�
�Your period dear, when did you last have a bleed?�

At the blank look she got from Sky, Poppy knew she had a long two hours ahead of her.
Severus returned after his meeting with Albus and checking that the temporary Potions teacher was keeping his students up to scratch he headed back to the infirmary.

�How is she?� He asked the moment he was in the door.
�She�s doing fine Severus, she�s asleep at the moment. We had a very long talk, do you know what she told me?�
She led him into her office and went on to explain the sum total of Sky�s sexual knowledge before she came to the ward. Poppy was absolutely thrilled at his red cheeks when she told him why Rowena originally gave Sky the scant bit of information she did.

�I�m having difficulty working out when the baby is due Severus, it seems she has never had a period, did you know?�
�Why would I know something like that? It is an entirely female matter and not something I have reason to concern myself with.�
�Then it�s about time you did, I also need to know when you two first had intercourse.�
�You what?� He thundered. �That is none of your business.�
�It is if you want to know when the baby�s due.�
He did not like this line of questioning at all. He wanted Poppy to just explain to Sky where babies came from, not delve into his personal life with his wife. �Is there no other way of telling?�
�Severus, stop being such a prude, I need to know.�
�It was about two months ago.� He mumbled as he studied his hands.�
�Are you sure?�
�Of course I�m sure. If you must know, it was after I recovered from the �Mors ab gangraena�.�
�Oh, she just seems to be a little big for two months. Never mind, I can keep an eye on her progress over the summer. I�m going to see my sister for a couple of weeks, but the rest of the time, I�ll be here. You know she really has done marvellously considering what that Re'em did to her, it was wonderful to hear that she recovered. Now, would you like to leave her with me or do you intend to take her back to wherever you keep her hidden?�
�I shall be taking her back, but I have been cajoled into chaperoning at tomorrow evenings graduation ball, is it acceptable to leave her with you then?�

�Of course it is Severus, but isn�t she going to attend?�
�Certainly not, she is not well enough, and the last thing she needs is a load of over excited, hormonal teenagers around her. No, she will be much better off in here.�
Before Poppy could ask him any more questions, he stood and turned to leave the office.
�Oh and Severus.�
�What is it Poppy?� He asked with a resigned sigh.
�Did you realise your wife does not know how old you are, she seemed to be under the impression that you might die of old age in a few years.� Poppy was holding her sides trying not to laugh as Severus stiffened. She could almost see the steam coming from his ears.
Instead of looking back, Severus strode from the room and carefully picked up his wife. �Old age indeed.� He fumed to himself. �Forty-one is not old, at least not in the wizarding world, he was just coming into his prime for Merlins sake. Wait until she was well again, he�d show her old age was still in the far and distant future, if he had a future after Sunday that is.�
By the time they reach his study, Sky was awake. �Severus, what time is it?�
�Time you were back in your own bed, you can finish your nap before dinner.�
�I�m fed up of sleeping, I need something to do.�

�The best thing you can do is sleep.�
Poppy said you wouldn�t stay in bed when you were her patient, she said you grumbled and shouted all the time and wouldn�t do as you were told, she said you ��
�Enough, I do not want to hear what Poppy said. You are going to bed and you will sleep, even if I have to give you a sleeping potion, is that clear?�
She refused to answer him and he narrowed his eyes at her.
�I asked you if that was clear?�

Yeah I suppose so.� She grouched.
�If you were not so ill I would put you ever my knee and spank you for your attitude.�
Sky turned red and clamped her mouth closed, she didn�t want to go to bed, she wasn�t even tired any more.
When Severus laid her in the bed, removed her shoes and pulled the covers up, she was fast asleep again.
He could not help but smirk when he noticed. Back in the living room, he called for Effy.
�Yes Sir?�
�Effy, you are bound to me are you not?�

�Yes Sir, just like with the miss.�

�Then as your master I give you permission to refuse Sky when she orders you to leave the wall. You have my permission to stay by her side at any time you deem it necessary, that way we shall not have to worry about her sneaking off again. Is that alright with you?�
�Oh yes Sir, that is being lots of alright. Now Effy can be looking after miss, even when miss doesn�t want Effy to.�
�Good. I shall be here for the rest of the evening so I doubt that you will be needed, thank you Effy. Oh and Effy?�
�Yes Sir.�

�I do hope you will be nanny elf to our son when he arrives.�
�Ooo yes. Effy will love to be nanny elf again. Effy is loving babies, lots of babies.�
�Yes, well one will do for now.�
�You is welcome Sir.� She said with a big smile. She popped and was gone.

Stepping back into his study, he took a couple of Sky�s books and brought them back into the wall to read until dinnertime.
On Friday when Severus awoke, he panicked when Sky was not in bed beside him.
�Calm down boy, the elf has her in the bath.�
�Sal, what are you doing here?�

�She asked me to wait for you to wake, she knew you�d get uptight if she wasn�t here. Don�t worry, she�s fine, you can give her a run over with the blood wand when she�s done in the bathroom, but I think she�ll be almost back to normal by the weekend, though she will still need to take it easy for a week or two. Nothing too strenuous, if you get my meaning.�
Severus frowned. He understood, no sex. �I wonder which of us will give in first?�

Smiling to himself, he got out of bed and went to the bathroom.

�Thought you would sneak off and have a bath without me did you?�
�Ahh, Severus you made me jump. And I didn�t sneak off, I asked Sal to tell you where I�d gone.�

�I know, and he did, mind if I join you?� Without waiting for an answer, he climbed into the bath with her. �Come here woman, I�ve missed you.� He told her in a deep silky voice.
�Sky shivered and scuttled over to him.
Severus opened his legs, bent his knees and manoeuvred her so she was sitting between them. Putting his arms around her waist, he rested his hands on the small bulge at her abdomen.
Sky laid her head back on his shoulder and placed her hands over his. �I can�t believe there�s really a baby inside me. Poppy told me all about it, I didn�t know it happened like that.�
�How did you think it happened?�

�I didn�t, it�s not something I ever thought about. I�m not too keen on how it comes out though, Poppy showed me some moving pictures and it was horrible. Those women looked like they were in agony, I don�t want to be like that.�
Chuckling he held her closer. �I am afraid you will not have a say in the matter, that is the way all children come into this world. So long as you are both healthy after, that is the main thing.�
�Well I think men should have them, not women. See how you like it.�
�Ah, but it is a woman�s place to have children. I for one am glad of that fact.�
�You would be, you don�t have to be split in two. Poppy said if men had babies the human race would die out.�
�In this instance she is entirely correct. Now sit up and I shall wash your back.�
It wasn�t long before Sky was wanting him to do more then wash her back and he hated having to refuse her, he hated having to refuse himself, and they both left the tub feeling very frustrated.

�Poppy said you would say no, I told her you�d be okay though because you can do the wank.�
Severus went into a coughing fit when she said that. �You said what?�
�Well you can, Rowena said all men wank when I asked her about it. Poppy nearly choked like you did when I told her you did it.�
�Sky. You should not tell people things like that, it is a private matter.�
�Why is it? Rowena said everybody does it and it�s nothing to be ashamed of.�
�Rowena is correct, it is just that we do not discuss it. Now can we please change the subject?�
Sky mumbled to herself as she dried and dressed.
�What did you say?� He asked.
�I said I don�t see what�s wrong with talking about it, Poppy said you�re a prude.�

�I am not a prude. Tell me, do you play with yourself?�

�Yes, why? Rowena said it�s normal.�
�And would you like it if I told others that you do so?�

�Not if they�re doing it too.�
Severus was stumped now, he expected her to say no. �Well as I told you, it is not something to be discussed, other then between ourselves. Do you really play with yourself?�
�I told you I did, and why are you looking at me all funny?�
�I was just thinking, I would like to watch you next time you decide to play with yourself, after all, you have seen me do it.�
�But that was different, you didn�t know I was watching.�

�I know now, did you play with yourself when you watched me?�

Sky turned red, she was beginning to understand about some things being private. �Yes.� She answer quietly.�

�And did you enjoy it?�
�Mmm Hmm.�
�Good, then perhaps we can try it together, sometime soon.�
Sky wasn�t too sure about that, but talking about it made her feel the tingly so maybe it wasn�t such a bad idea. �Do you want to try it now.�
�I would love to try it now, but you are still recovering and have healing to do, and I need to scan you, come on, on the bed.�
