"Why did you leave? Why did you block your floo again." Lucius demanded when Ginny opened the door.
"I wanted to save you the trouble of having to come all the way back here just to tell me to shove off."
"Shove off." Lucius whispered under his breath, shaking his head. "Ginny what part of 'I love you. I want you' didn't you understand?" His nostrils flared with anger as he stared at her.
"What were you doing there anyway? You said you were working at home."
"I was at home." Lucius roared. "Hermione called me to say that Marissa had come into the shop. I came to help you."
"I didn't need help dealing with her. I think you just wanted to see her." Ginny raised her chin petulantly. "You sure took off with her quick enough."
"So I could talk to her. Tell her I love you. Tell her to go home." Lucius eyes flashed with anger.
"And you think she's going to go? Just like that? Severus told her the same thing and it didn't work."
"This isn't fucking Hogwarts, Ginny. We're not sixteen." Lucius yelled, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. "Marissa is a reasonable adult. She's not a bad person, she just needed to hear it from me."
"What are you saying? I'm not a reasonable adult?" Ginny fisted her hands on her hips.
"You certainly aren't acting like one at the moment. You are acting like a child." Lucius growled, pacing angrily across the living room floor. "I can't take this Ginny. This distrust and suspicion. I need you to trust me. I can understand why it might have been difficult for you to trust me in the beginning. But I feel I've proven myself worthy of your trust over the past few months. I can't be in a relationship with someone who doesn't trust me." He stepped into the fireplace and grabbed a handful of powder. "I just can't." And he disappeared in a flash of green.
"Lucius wait!" She called after him, but it was too late, he was already gone.
Ginny stood and stared at the fireplace for several minutes. Her anger melted away, quickly replaced by fear. What had she done? Snatching up her mobile she quickly dialed Hermione.
"Did you call Lucius?" She blurted out when Hermione answered.
"Yes. I called him to tell him Marissa had come into the store to confront you. Why?"
"Oh no." Ginny sobbed. "I'm a bloody idiot."
"What happened."
"I...I...I thought, I thought..." Ginny stuttered through her tears. "Oh bloody Hell I don't know what I thought. We got into a huge fight and he left. He said he couldn't be with me if I didn't trust him."
"Oh my." Hermione gasped. "Where are you? Are you still at the shop?"
"No. I'm home."
"Well come over. We can talk."
"Okay. Just give me a minute to change out of my work robes."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hermione hugged Ginny around the shoulders as she relayed the story. Severus sat across the room, listening carefully.
"I've ruined everything." Ginny sobbed. "I acted like a right prat, a total child. He was right to leave me."
"Now, now." Hermione soothed, handing her a cup of tea. "It can't be all that bad. He loves you. He's just angry right now. Isn't that right Severus?" She glanced at him hopefully.
Professor Snape stared thoughtfully into his cup before answering. "Knowing Lucius, he is as much hurt as he is angry." He glanced up and stared at the two girls before continuing. "Trust is very important to him. Particularly now. By not trusting him, you are in essence telling him you do not believe he's changed."
"I do trust him." Ginny sighed, staring down at her hands. "This is all just so new to me. I've never been in a relationship like this before. I get scared sometimes."
"Why are you so insecure Ginny?" Hermione asked, rubbing her back. "You were never like this before, in school."
"I don't know." Ginny shrugged. "Maybe turning Harry gay hurt my confidence more then I thought it did."
"You didn't turn Harry gay." Hermione said, shaking her head. "He just is gay."
"I know." Ginny sighed. "But still."
"Still nothing. You're a wonderful woman."
"I know. But Lucius is so amazing. He's so powerful and handsome and sexy and rich..." She raised her hands in defeat. "Why would he want me? I am just a shop girl."
"He's just a man, Ginny." Severus deep voice said softly. "He's rich due to the circumstances of his birth and because he has a talent for making money. He's powerful because he practiced and worked hard to become so. He's handsome because his parents were attractive. But he is still just a man. You can't have him on such a high pedestal."
"I know." She whispered, staring down at her hands. "It's just that Marissa is so elegant and so sophisticated. She fits in his world better then I do."
"No." Severus said, shaking his head. "She fits in his old world. The world he no longer wants. The world that no longer makes him happy. You fit who he truly wants to be. You."
"So what do I do now? He was so mad."
"Just give him a few days let him cool off."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You look wretched." Severus said as he entered Lucius' study and settled himself on the sofa. The blonde wizard was unshaven and dressed in a soiled vest and a pair of lounging pants.
"Thank you for noticing Severus, I feel wretched as well." Lucius said, handing his old friend a tumbler of whiskey.
"Then why don't you call her you stubborn bastard. How many days has it been anyway? Three, four?"
"Four." Lucius frowned, tossing back his glass of whiskey.
"And...?"
"I won't be in a relationship with someone who doesn't trust me, Severus. I've spent too many years of my life being questioned and looked at as some sinister, untrustworthy monster. I won't do it anymore."
"Well it isn't as if you didn't earn that mistrust in the past." Severus chuckled ruefully.
"I did earn it." Lucius agreed, pouring himself another whiskey. "But I don't deserve it now. I need someone in my life that trusts me completely."
"Lucius, I don't think it's that she doesn't trust you. I think she's just a bit insecure and overwhelmed. She's young. She's never been in a relationship this intense. And you have to agree you are intense."
"Oh Severus." Lucius sank wearily down on the sofa next to his friend. "Perhaps you were right. Maybe these Witches are too young for us."
"Speak for your bloody self." Severus laughed. "I'm happier then I've ever been in my life. Happier then I probably even have a right to be and you were happy too."
"I just don't know Severus." Sighing he took another sip off his whiskey.
"What is there to know Lucius ?" Severus demanded. "You love her. She loves you. Don't roll your eyes at me, you know it's true. Maybe you could try not being so bloody perfect all the time. You can be a bit formidable."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Just that you can be a bit intimidating at times. Show her you're not perfect. Play a game of pool with her. You're shite at that. Or, I know, tell her how much trouble you had passing your Potions level NEWTS and that you had to ask me, a lowly 3rd year to tutor you. That might take you down a peg or two."
"Are you trying to cheer me up or push me over the edge?"
"I'm trying to convince you to get off your bloody stubborn pompous arse and call the woman you love." Severus sighed. "Lucius you know how much I love you. I want you to be happy. Ginny makes you happy. So get over this pathetic little tiff and go see her."
"Fine. I'll call her. And I'll try not to be formidable or intimidating. I'll show her I'm not perfect. Are you happy now?"
"Very." Severus said, standing up. "But you may want to shower first. You positively smell."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucius stood in front of his bathroom mirror and ran his hand over his clean shaven face. He felt better now that he had showered and shaved, but his heart still ached.
"Admit it." He said to his reflection. "You're in love with the little chit and you miss her."
Sighing he walked naked to his wardrobe and opened the door. As his hand settled on a pair of jeans, his eye wandered to the pair of cargo shorts tossed forgotten to the side. Grabbing them he pulled them on and reached for a red t-shirt.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ginny lay across her bed staring at that ceiling. She didn't want to eat, work, talk to her friends, all she could do was miss him. Tears streamed down her face as she replayed the argument over and over in her mind.
"I am such an idiot." She whispered to herself. "Everything was wonderful until I went and cocked it all up."
Ginny wiped her eyes and grabbed her mobile when it chimed she had a test message. Her eyes widened and her heart begin to pound as she read the message.
I miss you so much. Please come to the Manor. I can't bear another minute without you. I love you.
