Chapter 41:
I’m Traumatized For Life!
As he took in the fallout from the meeting the night before, Lucius was highly amused. Plenty were in, just irate, embarrassed and many other areas of emotion. Some wouldn’t meet their eyes, like Tonks and Molly, when they came over. He thought it was hilarious. While he sat at his place at the head of the table, stroking the purring Lucifer and feeding Satyr some fruit, he took it all in. No, he wouldn’t use it for anything as doing so would cause issues for all of them, but he did like knowing.
At the moment, Arthur was over. He had picked a time of day when most were working to make an appearance. As he had to take off work to come over, Lucius assumed he had something important to tell all of them, so he would listen carefully and stay out of the discussion so the man wasn’t put on edge.
Though his color was high and he was cringing internally over what was revealed about his relationship with Molly, Arthur was determined to go through with what he saw as his mission. A glance at Lucius made him sigh internally that the man knew so much. With how Lucius was, he was certain what he overheard would end up used against them at some point. He just hoped Sirius could keep him from doing too much. Poor Harry, though, was leaning against Sirius muttering about needing therapy. After all that was tossed out the night before he could understand why! Their part alone was more than most needed to know. Toss in what came from Albus? Oh yes, it was horrific.
Rather than dwelling on so much, Arthur launched in, staunchly vowing to ignore anything said about him and Molly. “I wanted to talk to all of you alone,” he started out. Though he wondered why Severus was there, almost glued to Remus, he decided to ignore it, assuming there was something romantic going on from the way the two acted and were talking.
“What about?” Sirius asked, curious, though hoping it would help them. So far, all who had come over were leaning that way. As he listened to Harry mutter about the need for therapy and something called brain bleach, he was trying not to grin. He could understand this! Even looking at Arthur now brought on visions he sure as hell didn’t want or need. For Harry, it was probably worse.
“Some of what was said last night,” Arthur sighed, fully planning to stay away from where he and his family were mentioned, other than Ginny. “Molly, Bill and I discussed it last night after going home.”
“First, I want to say none of us knew about Ginny. Even Fred and George didn’t. We asked, of course, and they said they didn’t have a clue. We were never told. If we had been, I assure you we would have stepped in and done something.”
He then looked at Harry and told him, “We’ll ensure it stops. You have my word. None of those around your age, other than the twins, know what was said last night and we won’t reveal how we found out, but we’ll make sure she ceases.”
“Just so she stays away from me,” Harry told him with a shudder. With all that was going on, he so didn’t need a stalker fangirl trying to land him any way she could think up. The mere thought she was trying with potions gave him the shivers and just added to the lengthy therapy bill he now needed. One thing he was certain of was he now needed more therapy than he had life left, probably double the amount from all he heard the night before! The visions of some of it would probably never leave him, ever.
“We will ensure it while schooling her in what is acceptable and what isn’t when it comes to expressing an interest in someone. We assumed she knew, but it appears she doesn’t,” Arthur sighed, shaking his head sadly. Oh yes, Molly was taking it on and planned to make certain their daughter knew this wasn’t in any way acceptable. In the end, they would manage. It would just take time.
“Now,” he started, looking determined, folding his slightly trembling hands on the table, “we also discussed what Albus had to say, at length. Our thoughts were we need Harry away from him. What he said—well, Merlin! It’s plenty bad. The fact he used all of us, repeatedly, is bad enough. If he had gone about matters the right way, we all still would have followed him. He didn’t. This makes all of us wonder just what else he’s planning or has done with so much. Ron alone—he didn’t need to implant anything, honestly. From what we know about so much, he and Harry were already friends. Why he would do so is beyond all of us.”
“I do tend to agree there,” Remus chimed in softly with a nod of his head. While he thought what Arthur might come across with would help all of them, he wanted the man to stay calm before he reached the nub of the matter. Them agreeing could only help all of them. As he did, though, he couldn’t help but chuckle internally at how uncomfortable he appeared. While hearing the true relationship with Molly was rather unnerving, after a good night’s rest, he did find it funny, in a way. One never knew about people, that’s for certain!
“There is plenty else, honestly,” Arthur said, nodding at Remus’ agreement. “The bit with Harry and the Prophecy, though, is the most troubling. The fact he plans for him to die is—well, I’m sure you can envision what the discussion about that was like.” Then he shuddered at the rage from not only Molly, but his sons over the mere thought that Albus was planning for Harry to die. Yes, it wasn’t a fun night in the Weasley household when this came up.
“Damn well guarantee you that isn’t happening,” Sirius jumped in, tone cold. “He’s no longer allowed anywhere near Harry. And anyone in line with his plans, such as Moody, aren’t either. I’m as firm as concrete on that, you have my word.” A hand on Harry’s knee, he tried to keep a straight face as his godson seemed unable to even look at Arthur. In fact, there was an embarrassed flush on his face from the time Arthur had walked in. As the same had happened with Molly earlier, he knew what it was. Not to mention the mutterings about how to find a therapist who wouldn’t lock him away for the rest of his life over some of what he needed the help for. Yeah, it wasn’t easy to keep from laughing.
“You need to,” Arthur told him, a determined bent to his voice. “Far away.” Then his eyes flitted to Lucius, who was paying attention, but had a mirthful twinkle in his eyes when they looked at each other. That made him cringe. The mere fact that Lucius, of all people, knew the true relationship with Molly made him want to hide forever. He couldn’t though, so he would press on.
After putting some starch in his backbone, he continued, “One of the areas we discussed was keeping poor Harry safe. While being out of school will help, we also thought you need to find somewhere to move to, Sirius.” Another glance at Lucius, fighting off cringing as he did, he then added, “I’m sure Lucius has a place the three of you can stay where Harry would be safe and no one can get in like they can here. Our thought was Albus isn’t going to stop with this crazy scheme of his until Harry is forced to face the maniac.”
“We’ve discussed that ourselves, actually,” Sirius told him, fighting off a grin at this going how they needed. “Lucius has somewhere for us that we’ll be protected from Albus.”
“You need to go, fast, Sirius,” Arthur emphasized, though happy they were on the same page with this. “As in the next few days while the Order is still in an uproar over what happened. I don’t think anyone will help him find the lot of you with what was said, aside from those like Alastor. If you just vanish, you can keep poor Harry safe.”
“I have somewhere we can move to. In fact, the elves are already preparing the abode for us,” Lucius added, trying not to chuckle at how Arthur wouldn’t meet his eyes. Yes, he would be amused by this for the rest of his life! While he doubted he could use it at any point, the idea he knew was plenty for him.
“Just let us know when you go, though not where you went,” Arthur nodded, happy they were already planning for what was needed. “We don’t want to know,” he then added, looking around. With a shake of his head, he sighed then explained, “If we don’t know, Albus can’t finagle it out of us. It’s best we don’t, honestly. Just vanish. I’ll talk to a few people, including Minerva, to ensure we keep an eye on Albus until you’re gone to make certain he doesn’t come over. We’ll find a way to buy you the time you need. Once you leave, a short note to me so I know you’re gone will suffice. If you can change the Fidelius, you might want to do so as well. Anything to stop this in its tracks.”
“I think you and Minerva might want to say something to Kingsley about having Albus’ faculties checked,” Severus sneered, arms folded over his chest. “He’s not right, Arthur. The plotting alone tells me he isn’t. With so much else going on, I think he might have finally gone off his rocker. It can’t hurt and will keep him occupied. We all know he’s eccentric, but so much of this goes beyond that into completely mental territory. Planning Potter’s death also tells me the word dangerous is factoring in. We don’t need him running loose and plotting worse if that’s the case.”
“I’ll pull Kingsley aside when I go back to work and see what he can manage,” Arthur agreed, thinking it was a damned good idea. “Something isn’t right there. We’ll manage something. At least it’ll keep him occupied until you all can find somewhere safe from him.”
“Just run him in circles a while and we’ll end up safe,” Sirius nodded, liking the idea. He wasn’t sure what was going on there, but he did agree there was something more than the eccentric factoring in anymore. He was now curious what it might be, honestly.
“For the sake of curiosity; does anyone have any idea what happened last night? I mean, obviously, something was off and it affected everyone, what with all that came out. We can all be sure it wasn’t normal,” Remus asked, hoping no one suspected anyone in the house of anything.
“Kingsley told me he’s sure it was a spell of some kind,” Arthur told him. “From what he said, he thinks it was cast on Albus before he came over then affected the rest of us. It was nothing here, from what we can tell as none of us know anything which could have caused that nightmare. However, he did add he’s not going to look too hard as what came out only helped all of us.”
“We were all curious about it,” Sirius nodded, pleased none of them were suspecting anything off with them.
“Just—the three of you need out, now,” Arthur told Sirius, Lucius and Harry, jumping back to the original topic. “Go. As long as where you have in mind has the basics, you need to move. Let us handle the rest. Some of us are having a meeting at the Burrow tonight over it. We’ll fill you in on what’s said. Let us handle Albus. You lot worry about protecting Harry.”
“Will do,” Sirius assured him, trying not to chuckle. Oh, he would love to attend that meeting to hear what was said. It would be a laugh riot, that’s for damned sure. He wouldn’t chance it, though. Too much was riding on this end to poke the dragon and draw suspicion. Yeah, they would just worry about getting out as the plan worked perfectly.
After a pleased nod, Arthur began filling them in on some other small tidbits he knew. He had to return to work soon, so he wanted them caught up. Then he would go talk to Kingsley.
As he held the letter Arthur sent over, Sirius took a seat on the edge of the bed, putting a hand on Harry’s leg, trying not to laugh. His poor traumatized godson was sprawled out on his back, arms out, moaning about wanting what Snape gave Cissy that time. It was a riot. Added on to it was Vlad was perched on his godson’s forehead, humming something or other that sounded a bit loony. He wasn’t sure what it was about the Puffskein and its ability to judge moods then put them into music, but it was a riot. Either way, he was trying to hold it together so he didn’t make matters worse for poor Harry.
Once Snape and Remus took a seat then Lucius settled in with Satyr clinging to his back and the demon cat purring up a storm on his lap, he launched in, “Right, first off, Kingsley found the spell to change the Fidelius. He sent us a copy so we can change it to where the wards are locked down when we leave. I just glanced at it, but it looks plenty complicated. Between all of us, we can manage, I think.”
“Pass it to us tonight so we can take a gander then prepare,” Severus nodded, pleased.
“Will do,” Sirius assured him. “It’s going to take all of us, well, except Harry as it’s too far advanced for him, to change it, from the sound of it. We’ll manage in the end.”
“Next up is Arthur talked to Kingsley, like he said, then Minerva was brought into the mix with the Albus being completely mental line of thought. They both agree, actually. Come tomorrow, the DMLE is stepping in and having Albus put into St. Mungo’s for a 72 hour hold to see what they can determine. My guess, and it’s backed up by Arthur, Minerva, Kingsley and some others? They’ll find something off. Either way, we’ll be safe to move.”
“Arthur suggests, and I agree, we do it overnight so no one is the wiser or likely to pop over. Good suggestion, one I think we should take,” Sirius then added, looking around.
“A suggestion we’ll take,” Lucius agreed with a nod, pleased with what he heard. “Tonight we’ll set the elves to packing what we need. You need to go through what’s here and find what you want to keep, then we abandon this accursed house.”
“We take no linens of any sort,” Severus then added firmly, looking around. “What we do not need is to take the Lethifold infestation with us! Let it have the house. We’ll ensure it’s sealed up so the creature dies out naturally.”
“Just the normal, Severus,” Remus assured him, looking amused, seeing Sirius’ shoulders shaking from repressed laughter.
As he tried to not have a laughing fit, Sirius then told them, “We’ll be ready and won’t take more than the personal stuff. Don’t care about most that’s here, honestly, so it can sit.”
“The house won’t be completely done, but we’ll be far more comfortable,” Lucius told everyone, looking around. “The basics are finished, what we mostly need. I’ll send a missive over tonight with orders for the head elf to tend to what we need the most then they can go from there. Either way, we’ll be far more comfortable than in this hovel. The animals will as well. I don’t think transporting them will end up an issue.”
“Hedwig can fly herself there,” Harry said, refusing to open his eyes or sit up, the visions of what was talked about last night still running a continuous loop through his mind, making him want to break down into a gibbering mess. He was coping the best he knew how, though, all he could do. “Vlad’s not a problem. Lucifer might be, though. You might want to talk to him so he’s prepared.”
When he heard Lucius assure them he would talk with the demonic beast, Severus added, “We still have his carrier. It’s fine for transporting him. Getting him into said carrier might be an issue if he doesn’t understand what we’re doing.”
“I’ll have one of the elves transport him,” Lucius said, petting the purring cat. “The ones who tend to Puff are familiar with animals and won’t have an issue. They’ll have a snack for him when we arrive, so he shouldn’t put up much of a fuss.”
“I somehow think he’s going to ‘fuss’,” Harry muttered, not opening his eyes or sitting up, making sure only Sirius could hear him.
“I tend to agree there,” Sirius snickered, wondering how much of a battle that would become for the poor elf.
Then clearing his throat, he added, “Satyr isn’t a problem. We can move him easily enough and he’ll probably just sleep through it. The rest? It’s just our belongings. Those the elves can tend to.”
“Kreacher won’t kick up a fuss, Harry?” Remus asked, glancing at the youngest of them, trying not to chuckle himself.
“He’s good there,” Harry assured them with a wave of his hand, though not moving more than that. “Already talked to him and he won’t take issue. Since he’s still bound to the House of Black and serves it, he just sees moving with us as an extension of it, nothing more. Only thing he made clear is what we all know; he only takes orders from me. He won’t listen to the other elves.”
“Good by us,” Sirius nodded, having expected that.
“Anything else we need to know?” Severus asked, folding his arms over his chest. This was good and it pleased him. While he was damned certain the insanity wouldn’t die down completely, this had to help some, especially since there was far more room without worrying about what Albus might pull out of that gaudy sleeve of his. Between Lucius, the Dark Lord, Lupin, Black and Potter, they were more than enough to fuel the insanity that went on. They needed no more help from a barmy old goat who he was sure had serious mental issues!
“Nothing more than a rundown of what happened at their meeting,” Sirius shook his head. Then with a snort and grin, he explained, “Most of the Order is done with Albus after last night. They are irate, all of them, other than like Moody who didn’t attend. Even Aberforth is on the warpath. If he and Moody are in a relationship, that won’t end nicely.”
“You didn’t need to remind me about that, Sirius!” Harry moaned, shuddering at the visions it produced. He then whimpered and ground his palms into his shut eyes to try to wipe away what his mind was chucking up.
“None of us needed a reminder of it,” Severus groused dourly, giving a disgusted shudder at what it brought to mind. “It was a tidbit I think all of us could do without knowing.”
After hearing Remus and Lucius agree, Sirius chuckled himself before saying, “We’ll let that end sort it out. If nothing else comes of Tom doing an overt showing, it’ll die off. Other than with Albus. We just have to wait it out, nothing more. Well, and hope St. Mungo’s keeps him! If it does, we’re golden.”
After hearing all agree, Lucius told them, looking around, “When we finish, call the elves assigned to you and have them start packing what you don’t need so we don’t have to wait until the last minute. The more we have done, the faster we can get out.” When everyone agreed, he then added, looking at Severus, “You can send a couple to move the contents of your house as well. Albus might turn up there, something you don’t want since he doesn’t know about the bond in place.”
Though dour over finally conceding there was no breaking the bond, Severus stiffened his upper lip then nodded. “I will. As I want all the contents, it might take them time. Best they start tonight and just store what’s there until I can sort through it.”
“Very wise, yes,” Lucius nodded. “We’ll manage. It’ll just take us some time.” Then he began listing off all they still had to do.
As Lucius talked, Sirius did listen, but his mind was more on other areas, like Harry and what was to come for all of them. Oh, he was damned sure more insanity awaited them, but this would help. It would just take adjusting. As he and Harry had up until now when it came to Lucius, they could manage. Maybe it wouldn’t be as bad with so much out of the mix. He wasn’t counting on that, but he hoped! Now they had to wait and see.
As Harry groaned about needing therapy and Lucius talked, Sirius smiled just a little. Yeah, this was nuts, but he liked it, at least some. The bond was there and pulling, something he now realized, and he planned to follow its lead. He just hoped it wouldn’t grow worse from here on out. If it did? He didn’t know what he would do, but would press on just like he was now.
