Lucius sat in bed watching James snore softly. The sun was coming up and he was exhausted,
but he still couldn’t sleep. There was
way too much on his mind. He’d told
James he was happy about the baby, but in reality he was scared. The Dark Lord did not take betrayal lightly,
and that’s what Lucius had done. There
would likely be a price on his head now, as well as the rest of his
family. The decision had been made in a
split second, but it was going to have serious lasting consequences.
Shortly after breakfast started there was a knock on the
door. “Come in,” Lucius said.
The door creaked open and Harry poked his head in. “Lucius, I… I couldn’t sleep and just wanted
to…”
“Come on,” Lucius sighed and motioned for Harry to join
them. “I can’t sleep either.”
James let out a loud snort and rolled over to put his head
in Lucius’ lap. “He doesn’t seem to have
any trouble,” Harry sighed and crawled into the other side of the bed.
“Yes, well, pain killing potions and exhaustion will have
that effect. He’s also pregnant.”
“Pregnant?” Harry repeated the word. “How can that be?”
“It’s part of being part elf and magical.”
Harry frowned.
“Great, something else to make me a freak…”
“Don’t say that!” Lucius chided the younger wizard. “You and your father might be a little
different, but you’re not freaks. Your
father is nearly three months along, and I only just found out a few hours
ago. Your baby brother or sister’s
conception and birth may be a little unconventional, but that doesn’t make it
any less special.”
Harry bit his lip.
“I’m sorry, you’re right. I’m
just really tired of being different. I
want to be a normal teenage boy.”
Lucius raised an eyebrow.
“As your father would say, bullshit.”
“What?” Harry cried, rather offended. “How can you say
that?”
“When you though Sirius was in trouble you rushed off to
save the day. You didn’t try to find
your father, or Severus, or anyone for that matter.”
“Professor Snape neglected to tell me Sirius was in the
dungeon!” Harry argued.
“True,” Lucius agreed.
“Severus is partially at fault, but he did tell you to wait. Once you did let him know what you’d seen you
should have trusted him to handle the situation. He’s an adult, and you are a fifteen year old
boy.”
“I already know what I did was wrong!” Harry half
shouted. “I don’t need to be lectured
again.”
Lucius sighed. “Yes,
Dumbledore told us he had a nice long chat with you. I’m just… I don’t know… My life has changed significantly over the
past twenty-four hours. Draco had to be
woken up and moved to Severus’ quarters.”
“So what now?” Harry asked.
“Well, for now we should try and get some rest I
suppose. Then I want to have a little
talk with you and Draco. After that, I
don’t know.”
Harry nodded and curled up against his sleeping father. Lucius did the same, and they both eventually
drifted off to sleep.
Severus tip-toed into Sirius’ hospital room with a bouquet
of wild flowers in his hand. He was
trying to be quiet so as not to wake the sleeping man. He put the flowers on the night stand and
turned to leave.
“Severus?” Sirius mumbled sleepily and rolled over. “Not gonna stay and say hello?”
Severus jumped a little and turned around to face the
bed. “I didn’t want to wake you. I just thought you’d like some flowers, and I
remembered James saying you liked wild flowers more than store bought ones, so
I picked you some.”
Sirius grinned up at him.
“And I remember Lucius saying you could be very thoughtful when you put
your mind to it. Now I believe him.”
“A simple thank you would have sufficed.”
“Maybe, for some people,” Sirius chuckled. “Take a seat and keep me company for a
while.”
“I can’t,” Severus frowned.
“Draco had to be moved into my rooms, so I need to get back before
breakfast.”
Just then Cornelius Fudge knocked on the edge of the doorway
and walked in. “Ah, good, I need to
speak to both of you,” he said. “Dolores
Umbridge has disappeared, and James said you two were with him all afternoon.”
Severus nodded. “He
came down to my room after lunch all upset because he’s pregnant and none of
his clothes fit. I let him borrow some
of mine and he and Sirius kept me company.
He was there until Draco came to let us know what was going on.”
Sirius nodded. “What
he said.”
Fudge frowned. “And
that’s your story?”
“That’s the truth!” Sirius argued.
“Minister, after everything that’s just happened because you
didn’t believe Albus and Harry, you can’t possibly be accusing us of lying just
because what we’re saying is not what want to hear…” Severus sighed.
Fudge glared at the Potions Master for a minute, but didn’t
say anything. “Have a good day then,” he
mumbled before leaving.
“You’re good,” Sirius smiled.
“Thank you, but I really do need to be going.”
Severus gave Sirius a little nod and left.
James opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling for a few
seconds. It was then that he noticed he
was sandwiched between two people. He
rolled over to see Harry sound asleep.
James yawned and stretched before climbing out of bed. When he was looking through his closet
something dawned on him. If he could
shorten Severus’ robe, he could alter his own too. He suddenly felt very silly for panicking and
missing the obvious. He pulled his
favorite sleeveless lilac robe out of the closet and altered it to fit him.
He was starving, but he didn’t want to go down to the Great
Hall for breakfast. Word had probably
gotten out about what happened, and he really didn’t want to deal with all that
just yet. He was pretty sure Harry didn’t
want to deal with it either, so he called for Mitsy to bring up a breakfast
tray.
Lucius woke a little while later to the delicious smell of
pancakes with raspberry syrup.
“Morning,” James smiled.
“Morning,” Lucius smiled back. “I hope you don’t mind, but Harry said he
couldn’t sleep.”
James shrugged. “He’s
a little old to be climbing into his father’s bed, but I guess since he didn’t
get to do it as a kid….”
Lucius nodded. “I was
thinking the same thing. Though I have
to admit I did yell at him.”
“I don’t plan on coddling him either,” James sighed. “He’s been bitching that he wants to be an
adult. Part of being an adult is being
held accountable for your actions.”
“True…” Lucius said as he pulled his robes on.”
Neither of them talked about the baby, though it was on both
their minds. Harry slept until it was
nearly lunch time. When he woke both
adults turned and looked at him, but didn’t say anything. He bit his lip and waited for his dad to say
something about what happened.
James smacked Harry upside his head. “Start using your damn head!” he cried. “I know you’ve got one.”
“Sorry,” Harry mumbled and lowered his gaze to the
floor. “Dad, are you really pregnant?”
James nodded.
“Yes. It’s not something I
planned, but it happened.”
“Speaking of which, Harry, go get Draco and take him to the
new Divination classroom,” Lucius interrupted.
James raised an eyebrow.
“What do you have up your sleeve?”
Lucius grinned. “I
want to talk to my son. I don’t have
anything up my sleeve. His life is going
to be changing a lot.”
James sighed. “Why
don’t I believe you?”
Lucius shrugged.
“You’re a suspicious person?”
Harry ducked out when his dad threw a pillow at Lucius. At
first he wondered how he was going to get Draco, but then he remembered that
the blonde had been moved to Snape’s room.
He was thankful that he didn’t run into too many people on
his way down to the dungeons. The few he
did see just stared at him and didn’t say anything. He met Draco on the way down the stairs.
“Morning Harry,” Draco smiled. “Heard you had quite an adventure last
night.”
Harry could’ve sworn Draco sounded a little jealous. “Yeah, something like that. Your dad wanted me to come get you so he
could talk to us in the new Divination room.”
“I wonder what about,” Draco said as he followed Harry up to
the ground floor.
When they reached the classroom Lucius wasn’t there yet so
Harry took a seat on the floor. Firenze
didn’t seem to be around either.
“You don’t seem to be very upset about being pulled out of
Slytherin in the middle of the night,” Harry commented when Draco sat down
beside him.
Draco shrugged. “I
was really starting to hate it anyway. I
know it’s not going to be easy, but at least I can let down my guard and start
being myself now.”
Harry couldn’t argue with that. He’d always been thankful that the Sorting Hat
hadn’t placed him in Slytherin anyway.
“Draco, there’s something I need to tell you. I just found out this morning that my dad is
three months pregnant with our shared sibling.
I know you like me, but we’re going to be family now and us being
together would kinda be incest.”
Draco’s eyes went wide.
“Seriously? They’re having a
baby?”
Harry nodded. “Yeah,
we’re going to be big brothers.”
“You know what this means don’t you?” Draco sighed. “Everyone is going to fuss over the new
baby. You’ll still get plenty of
attention I’m sure because you’re the Chosen One. Me, I’ll be lucky if anyone remembers I still
exist.”
“I don’t think that’s true,” Harry said. “I mean they probably will fuss over the
baby, but your dad loves you a lot. He
just doesn’t know how to show it.”
Just then Lucius opened the door and entered the room. “I see you’ve let the cat out of the bag,” he
sighed.
Harry nodded.
“Sorry.”
“That’s all right,” Lucius said as he joined the boys on the
floor. Draco had gone from seeming happy
to pouting. “What’s wrong Draco?” Lucius
asked.
“Nothing,” Draco mumbled.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“It’s just… Why did you have to go and have another baby?”
Lucius frowned. “We
didn’t plan on it. It just
happened. Before you say anything,
you’re not being replaced. Think of it
as our family growing and changing.”
Draco sighed. “You
wanted to talk to us because you want to marry him don’t you?”
Lucius nodded. “Yes,
but since this affects the two of you as well, I wanted to talk about it.”
Harry was stunned.
He’d never even thought about his dad getting remarried and what it
would mean. All his life all he’d ever
wanted was a family. He was happy to be
getting a sibling, but if his dad and Lucius got married he’d have a real
family. It would be a non traditional
family, but a family none the less.
“What’s going to happen to Mother?” Draco asked,
interrupting Harry’s daydream.
“I’ll have to divorce her, of course,” Lucius answered, “but
don’t worry, I’ll make sure she’s taken care of.”
“This isn’t fair!” Draco cried. “Why can’t things stay the way they are?”
“Because they can’t,” Lucius frowned. He’d been hoping to get more support from his
son. “ I
suppose there’s no point in continuing this conversation. I see you only care about yourself.”
Lucius stood and stormed out. Harry sat quietly, not knowing what to say or
do. He didn’t understand why Draco was
upset, but of course his mother was dead and completely out of the picture.
Draco glared at the door for a few minutes. “Can you believe him?” he snorted.
Harry shrugged. “I
don’t know. You want to be happy,
right? Doesn’t your dad have the right
to want to be happy too?”
Draco started to glare at Harry, but his expression
softened. “I just… I don’t know… First he changes sides, and now he wants to
divorce my mother! It’s just too much.”
“Well, look at it this way; you won’t have to deal with
Pansy anymore. You can be with anyone
you want, except me that is.”
“Not so fast Potter,” Draco gave him a small smile. “I know the marriage laws. Even though we’re going to be sharing a
sibling, the only way we’re related is through marriage. We could still be legally married if we
wanted to. I’m not giving up that easily.”
Harry shook his head and decided to go find Dumbledore and
ask if he could visit Sirius in the hospital.
