The group learns about Severus.

Severus honestly felt a bit weird being back in his old quarters. It felt like he was stepping into a life that existed so very long ago.
Harry had not moved anything. His clothes still hung where they had been left. His shoes still took up the same space they always had. A quick freshening charm took care of the slight musty smell that had started to overtake them. No, Harry had transfigured his own little wardrobe when he had undoubtedly moved in.
Severus breathed deeply taking in Harry’s scent that permeated his rooms. Or were they Harry’s rooms now? Sure smelt like they were. Enough time had passed that Severus could barely detect his scent anywhere. That would need to be remedied.
Severus had sent Harry to check in on Draco while he cleaned up their mess from the previous night and to reacquaint himself with the rooms. Harry had been hesitant, understandably, but had caved after a thorough kiss and a promise that Severus would join him soon. He had requested that Harry keep his presence secret until he got there.
The ex-Potions Professor had just finished up rubbing a wrist along the doorframe of the bedroom when he smelt Edge enter the rooms. He watched the elder vampire carefully. Harry had not reacted the way he had expected; Severus was unsure how the other vampire would react to him.
Edge watched him with the same carefulness as Severus turned to face him more directly.
“I can smell Dante on you.” Edge said softly. Severus said nothing. He wasn’t sure what he could say. Edge continued after a few seconds. “He wants me to accept you into the clan. Would you be willing to do that?”
Severus arched a brow. “What would the entail? Do you want to? Accept me that is.”
Edge grabbed Severus by the wrist twisting it harshly forcing Severus to his knees with a groan. Severus looked up at Edge to find the vampire looking down at him passively.
“You are a mind weaver. I’m just a healer.” Edge stated blue eyes tracing lines over Severus’ form. “You could easily over power me and take the clan for yourself and everyone in it.”
Severus scoffed. “I have no desire to do that.”
“I know.” Edge let Severus go and stepped back. “You just want to be with Harry.”
Severus stood rubbing his wrist. Edge was talking in monotone, obviously depressed. “Was that really necessary?” he grouched.
“Maybe, maybe not, but it did tell me that you don’t want to fight me or you would have.” Edge held out a hand. “If you accept, give me your wrist.”
Severus slowly rested his wrist in Edge’s hand. Edge held it gently as he breathed in Severus’ scent.
“I can still smell him.” Edge closed his eyes with a pained sigh.
Severus stayed still giving Edge time. He had felt Dante’s passing deep in his chest but he knew it would not compare to the pain Edge was feeling. Dante may not have been Edge’s true Sire but he had loved him once and no doubt still did to a certain extent.
“This may sting a bit.” Edge warned before biting into Severus’ wrist.
Severus jerked with a hiss but left his wrist plaint. Edge gently let it go but left the bite open and bleeding. He offered his own wrist to Severus.
“Take a little in return. Leave the bite open.” Edge instructed.
“What will it do?” Severus asked even as he took the wrist in hand and lifted it to his mouth.
“I am replacing Dante’s blood with my own.” Edge sounded pained as he said it like it was the last thing he wanted to do. Severus knew it was not because it was him.
“Will it change anything?”
Edge shook his head. “As far as powers and abilities, no. It simply transfers you between one Sire to another.”
Severus bit down trusting Edge at his word. The other looked too pained and depressed to be lying. He took a couple swallows before letting go as Edge had instructed he do. He watched calmly as Edge took their wrists and pressed them tightly together. The blood and wounds glowed slightly as the blood slowly faded and the bites healed over. Severus swayed as dizziness suddenly over took him. Edge held him up as he blinked against the onslaught.
“He said it would be disorienting for you. I’m sorry.”
“I’m good.” Severus groaned holding his head with a hand as his eyes closed. A few minutes passed as did the sensation. “I’m good.” He repeated as he stood on his own feet. “You okay?” Severus felt concerned for the elder vampire. He did not look good. Dark circles were under his eyes telling he clearly did not sleep a wink.
Edge shrugged. “I’ll live.” He looked at Severus sadly. “I hadn’t even gotten used to the loss of you and now I’ve lost Dante and possibly Draco as well.”
There was much that Severus needed to be caught up on. “You going back to the Infirmary?” Edge nodded. “Then fill me in as we go.”
Severus shifted into his fox form and trotted to the door looking back at Edge who stood staring at him with a soft smile.
“That form really does suit you despite its small size.” Edge mused. Severus laid his ears back in annoyance. Edge chuckled. “Would you like to ride or walk?”
Severus eyed him. The little fox then trotted back to Edge, jumped on the table beside him, and onto his shoulders. Edge winced as claws dug into his skin as Severus’ small frame settled draped around his neck. One front limb rested along his shoulder to help stabilize him.
“Are you comfortable now?” Edge teased with a half-hearted smile.
Severus yipped softly with an eye roll. Edge chuckled softly as they left the rooms together.
Edge talked quietly as they walked so they would not be overheard by anyone knowing that Severus would be able to hear him. Severus listened intently to every word. His chest ached hearing how hard Harry had mourned him. He would need to find some way to make it up to him and Draco. His godson had faired a little better than Harry but he had other things to help keep his mind off of Severus it sounded like. Severus figured there were worse people Draco could possibly bond himself to. He could help Weasley and Granger with their Occlumency he supposed.
Hearing that Draco had been bitten by Greyback had Severus worried. He had knew Draco had been in the Infirmary; he could smell him healing behind the door of the private room, but had not yet been able to scent the wolf that would be developing underneath. Dumbledore would be required to report it as Headmaster of the school meaning Draco’s life and chances would be greatly diminished. Not to mention the Malfoy’s had always been a proud family of strict Purebloods as far back as Severus had ever thought to look. He feared that Draco would be disowned the minute Lucius heard of the event. Severus hoped not but that hope was slim. It made him feel better that Draco would have so much support going forward.
Everyone looked at them as they walked into the private room that Draco was currently occupying in the Infirmary. Draco sat in the bed resting back against the pillows. Sirius and Remus stood by the bed while Ron and Hermione sat side by side on the bed by Draco’s feet. Harry sat in the chair by the head of the bed. He smiled when he noticed Severus around Edge’s neck. Draco looked at the fox inquisitively.
“I see the fox stuck around.” Sirius grumbled.
Edge nodded giving Severus a look of mild amusement. “He is the reason I called you together.”
Severus slid down Edge’s front landing on his feet. Edge hissed as claws dug into his skin but said nothing. Severus trotted over jumping into Harry’s lap and gave him the fox version of a hug and nuzzle. Harry chuckled returning the greeting.
The group smiled softly seeing Harry smile so brightly for the first time in months. Made them wonder where the fox had come from.
“He seems to really like Harry.” Draco commented.
Edge laughed while Harry blushed leaving the others confused. “Let’s do this quick and put them out of their misery, shall we.” Edge looked to Remus. “Ward the door. I don’t want anyone but us knowing about him.”
Remus still looked confused but did as asked. Only after the task was complete did Edge motion to the fox.
The fox sighed. With a huff it jumped from Harry’s lap and shifted shape. Gasps and shocked looks filled the room. No one seemed to breathe for the longest time and Severus was beginning to fear someone might actually pass out.
“You guys should breathe.” Severus drawled feeling like something on display.
Sirius was the first to move. He growled before basically lunging himself around the bed toward Severus. Severus narrowed his eyes and Sirius went to his knees, holding his head, and groaning in pain. Remus ran to Sirius glaring up at Severus.
“What are you doing?” the sandy haired man demanded.
Severus snorted. “Nothing.”
“Severus.”
Severus turned at the sound. Edge’s voice had gone deep but all he needed to say was the name. The newest vampire rolled his eyes letting up on Sirius. “He asked for it.”
Edge sighed and moved to be next to Draco resting his hand on Sirius’ head as he went.
“You son of a bitch.” Sirius ground out as he stood. “Where the hell have you been? I looked all over for some trace of you, you bastard.”
Severus eyed the other dark haired man. He actually sounded genuinely upset. “I was transitioning. Dante had grabbed me before you two got there apparently.”
“Transitioning?” Draco asked quietly. He had the start of tears in his eyes and was holding onto Harry’s hand tightly.
Hermione looked at her previous Potions Professor with wide, understanding eyes. “You’re a vampire now.”
Severus nodded toward the bushy haired girl. “Dante insisted on training me or I would have returned sooner.” He looked toward Harry as he spoke hoping convey how much he had wanted to return. Harry returned his look with a warm smile. A small smile crept on his lips in return.
“What did you just do to Sirius?” Remus asked still standing by his mate protectively.
Severus sighed. “I didn’t hurt him, Lupin. He’ll have a mild headache for the rest of the night but that’s all.”
Sirius looked at him with a sudden understanding. “You killed those wolves.”
A simple nod. “They killed my Sire and I retaliated. They would have killed Edge as well if I had not.” Severus looked down at his feet. “Their pain did not last long.”
Those with heightened senses to could smell that Severus had taken no joy in actually killing them. Draco had grabbed Edge’s hand and was looking down at his lap. Edge traced his thumb across the pale hand that held his own in an attempt at comfort.
“I am sure I do not need to explain why Severus being alive needs to remain secret.” Edge stated softly but firmly. Everyone shook their heads. He continued. “Most likely he will remain with Harry as a fox.” Edge looked at Severus who nodded then to Harry who did the same.
“Someone will figure something is up.” Ron chuckled. “Harry lit up like a Christmas tree when you walked in here with Snape on your shoulders.”
Harry blushed only slightly his cheeks barely turning pink despite the embarrassment he felt at his friends words. The others all shared smiles in agreement. Severus noted the pale pink and knew he needed to get Harry feeding properly again.
“We will not need to worry about that too much.” Edge said. “Severus is a mind weaver. He’ll make sure others see what they are supposed to.”
“Mind weaver?” Hermione asked turning back to look at Edge.
Edge nodded. He took a deep steadying breath. “Dante left a lot of information in the letter he wrote me. Apparently, there are names for certain abilities. It was one of the things he had not been able to share with me before we were…separated.”
“Coward.” Severus growled under his breath earning a glare from Edge. “His words.” Severus replied without breaking eye contact.
Edge continued to glare until Hermione grabbed his attention. “You and Harry?”
The dark haired vampire sighed and shifted his shoulders in an attempt to release some tension. Draco leaned to rest his head on Edge’s shoulder.
“I am classified as a healer, which I already knew, and Harry is an instinctual apparently, obviously meaning all his powers develop at an instinctual level based on his own strengths.”
“There was so much information he could have shared with us.” Hermione said sadly. “Why did he not stay to share it?”
Edge said nothing. Severus would not as he did not know what Dante had written in his letter. Edge deserved the truth; Severus could only hope the vampire had given it to him.
“It doesn’t matter now.” Severus stated but not without sympathy for Edge. “Plans need to be readjusted going forward.”
“You’re talking about me.” Draco mumbled from his spot leaning on Edge.
“Not just you.” Severus sat on the bed by Draco’s legs. “There are many things to discuss.”
“Oh.” Hermione leaned over to make eye contact with Severus when he turned to look her way. “Will you be needing donations as well?”
“If there is enough to spare that would be best for now.” Severus did not know how many people were actually donating to the stores Edge had told him about on their way up, but not having to go out looking for food would be a great help in keeping him hidden.
Hermione smiled. “We have enough people. It’s not just me and Ron. There are multiple students from the DA and some Order members are donating as well.”
Severus could admit that he was impressed. Why had they not thought of it sooner? Severus snorted mentally. There was no need to that was why. He had gotten to be more than happy with feeding Harry.
“Speaking of feeding…” Ron mumbled trailing off unsure whether or not he should continue his thought.
Harry finished it for him. “Can Draco still feed Edge?” He asked it softly knowing it would be a sensitive topic for the blonde sitting on the bed and the vampire in question.
Draco tensed moving away from Edge and sitting up refusing to look at the vampire. Edge sighed but accepted the distance reluctantly.
“There is no reason he can’t if he still wishes to do so.”
Draco looked at Edge sharply. “Really?”
“So then why couldn’t I feed from Remus?” Harry asked.
“Yes, really.” Edge answered Draco before turning to Harry. “Remus is your Guardian and had other duties he needed to attend to. You being so young at the time would have needed much more than he could have given you and still been able to do what he needed to do.”
“You don’t feed from your Guardians?” Remus asked to clarify.
Edge shook his head. “Werewolves in general are no issue but we leave our Guardians alone. It’s the reason I stopped feeding from Sirius when we bonded. Of course if a clan has multiple Guardians, if one gets that big anyway given how rare we are, then they can be put on rotation.”
“Well this one seems to be getting pretty big.” Sirius joked looking between the three vampires in turn. “This must be a record.”
Edge smiled dryly. “Yes, I must admit that I have not heard of three Animalis in one area let alone all part of a clan before, but I am just a child all things considered.”
“Will it affect us?” Draco whispered looking down at his hands.
Edge looked at him pained. “I…I do not know.”
Hermione shifted on the bed turning to look more directly at Edge being careful not to nudge Severus with her knees. “How come?”
“There are many reasons that have me feeling unsure.” Edge admitted.
“Werewolves and vampires are notorious for repelling each other.” Remus jumped in. “It’s what makes the Guardian bond so unique in the creature community.”
“So if they could form a Guardian bond, then why wouldn’t they be able to form a Mate bond?” Hermione continued to question.
“There is no reason to believe that we can’t other than two things; one being the chance of magical fluctuations.” Edge explained. “Animalis mates are based on magical compatibility. Lycanthropy is a curse that can change witches and wizards core magic. It’s the reason that Animagi are unable to retain their animal forms after being bitten; Sirius obviously being the exception most likely due to the Guardian bond being formed so early. It also explains why many Patronus’s change after being bitten.”
“And the second thing?” Ron asked.
“The wolf.” Severus answered simply.
Edge nodded. “Werewolves have their own mates that are determined on multiple factors unique to them.” Edge paused looking depressed. “Even if his magic still resonates with mine, I may not qualify for his wolf. There is a reason why inter-creature mates are so rare.”
No one spoke absorbing what Edge was saying. Draco may still be Edge’s mate, but Edge may end up not being Draco’s.
Draco swallowed thickly. “When will we know?” His voice shook with uncertainty.
“Your wolf will not settle until after your first transformation.” Remus answered softly.
“Until then there is no reason you could not continue feeding him if you so wish.” Severus rested a comforting hand on Draco’s knee. He could understand the desire to feed one’s mate. It had not been so long ago that he himself was feeling the dread and jealousy at the thought of Harry feeding on anyone else. He also remembered the pure ecstasy Harry’s bite brought him each time. Severus could not imagine what his godson was currently feeling.
Draco nodded solemnly. “If we can’t do the mate bond, would we be able to do a Guardian bond?” Draco had obviously already been putting thought into his options. Severus felt a small amount of pride.
“Not with me.” Edge answered regretfully. “We can only have one Guardian bond, unfortunately.”
Sirius winced. “I’m sorry…”
“Stop it, Sirius.” Edge ordered. “Our bond was made before all this and it is not one I regret, at all, even now.”
“I will bond with you, Draco.” Severus stated. Draco looked up at him with wet eyes. “If bonding with Edge is not possible, I will form the Guardian bond, if that is your wish.”
Draco nodded with a sad smile. Edge looked at Severus gratefully even though he was still obviously depressed at the idea of losing his mate. Severus felt weighed down by all that has happened and still needed to happen. There was, after all, still a war to be fought. What else was going to be lost along the way?
“Could I get some private time with my godfather, please?” Draco asked quietly.
With a quick look to Edge to make sure their little meeting was over, everyone was quick to give well wishes and say their good byes. Harry and Edge were the only two that lingered.
Severus allowed Harry to lean close and rubbed their cheeks together. He was obviously marking Severus, something that had confused Severus before but now made perfect sense. No wonder Harry had been so happy when Severus would return the gesture. Severus returned it now knowing fully that Harry would be wonderfully scent marked and feeling heat settle in his gut from the knowledge.
Edge watched them sadly but still happy they had been able to come back together. He would not begrudge his Childe his mate after what they had been through. He startled when a hand closed around one of his own. Draco pulled it reaching up with his other hand to cradle the back of his neck. Edge purred when Draco rubbed his check against his own going further to rub his cheek along Edge’s neck and across his shoulder. The blond pulled back with a slight blush coating his cheeks.
“Sorry, I don’t know what come over me.”
“No worries.” Edge pressed their foreheads together allowing himself to breathe Draco in deeply through his nose. Not much had changed yet but was Draco really feeling the urge to scent mark him already or was he just doing it as a way to help settle both of their worries? Edge knew he had picked up on Edge doing it when they were together. With a sigh, Edge pulled himself away from his dragon and motioned to Harry it was time to let Draco and Severus have their private time. Harry nodded and left after assuring Draco he would check on him tomorrow night. Edge moved to follow but rested a hand on Severus’ shoulder and leaned close.
“I’d like you to come with me tomorrow night to inspect the house.”
Severus nodded feeling the slight shake to Edge’s hand. He had known Edge would not wish to go alone and knew Edge wanted to speak with him more away from prying ears. First; however, he was going to give Draco his full attention.
