(42) Return to the Chamber
Corvus returned to the hospital wing to be looked over by Healer Jones and his mother. "You have a slight concussion, Corvus" his healer said.
"That would be from someone knocking me on the back of the head," he grumbled. Then he turned to his mother with mischief in his eyes, "So how many more life debts do you think I can collect." She smacked his arm lightly, fighting her own smirk, "Ow! Don't hurt the injured."
Bellatrix held him in a tight embrace, "I'm so glad you are okay Corvus. I was so worried."
"I'm sorry for worrying you mum," he said honestly. "I really didn't have a choice." His mother gave him a disbelieving look and lifted her hand again, "Okay wait, I did!" He said, hands held in defense. "We both know, even with the three of them, the chances of me being taken against my will were slim." Bellatrix nodded and gestured for him to continue. "The problem was that I didn't doubt that they would have left Morag down there. I don't have many friends and it's... hard for me to speak with people my age. Anyway, then the idiot Lockhart made the corridor collapse and I really didn't have any choice. It was left up to me to play dress up Gryffindor."
"I don't blame you, Cor. I will always worry. It's a mother's job."
"Well he's good to go. I would suggest he rest in Severus' quarters until morning," said Healer Jones.
"Thank you Healer," said Bellatrix. "Send the bill to my Gringotts account manager."
Healer Jones nodded his head and patted Corvus on the shoulder before leaving through the floo.
"That poor Healer," said Corvus, "Always having to get up in the middle of the night for me."
"He loves you, you know that."
Corvus nodded and got off the infirmary bed. He followed his mom to where Severus was speaking with Dumbledore and the Weasleys.
"Severus, you know that Basilisk-"
"Back to that again are we?" Corvus said drily. He turned to Severus who looked relieved for the interruption. "Healer Jones has released me into your custody for the night, Uncle Severus."
The Potions Master nodded and turned to Dumbledore, "That is the end of that discussion, Headmaster. You heard Amelia. There is no way I will go against the orders of the Head of the DMLE." Dumbledore tried again, but was cut off, "No. I won't be going against her and I definitely will not be stealing from a student."
"What about us?" said the Weasley Matron. "What about what my daughter had been through? We should-"
Corvus was beyond angry, "You should teach your daughter not to trust something that talks back to you. She was a fool to hold onto such a dark artifact for so long. You should ask our dear Headmaster, how a dark artifact was in the school for so long. What happened has nothing to do with Shasa and both her and your son did nothing while I defeated the Basilisk. Instead of moving rocks from the cave-in, he simply sat and waited. So tell me, what exactly do your children deserve." He turned to Severus who nodded his head and lead the way to his rooms.
()
Corvus slept only until 8 in the morning and ended up spending the day in Severus' quarters, happy to be excused from his classes for the day. Dumbledore had attempted to overrule, but since Potter was excused, Corvus was to be as well.
The day passed by quickly and before he knew it, Corvus was headed to the main hall with Severus to meet with Amelia Bones.
"Good Evening, Madame Bones," Corvus greeted with a slight bow. Severus gave his own greeting and they were soon heading to the bathroom.
Just outside the bathroom, Corvus paused and turned to the hallway to cast a 'homenum revelio'. He wasn't surprised to see the hall light up and different disillusion spells failing.
Dumbledore, Mrs. Weasley, and James Potter were now visible. There were still two unaccounted for, so Corvus spoke up, "Whoever is under the invisibility cloak needs to come out now."
Madame Bones cast the spell next and moved quickly to where the hall lit up. She reached out with her hand and seemingly grabbed air, but came away with a cloak, under which stood Potter and Ron Weasley.
"Everyone in this hallway was aware that this was to be only myself, Severus Snape, and Corvus Lestrange. Each one of you are fined 100 Galleons. Now leave before I increase the fine."
Corvus and Severus smirked as the five stormed off down the hall.
()
Severus and Madame Bones both froze when they saw Shasa at the mouth of the tunnel.
"I think we will need to employ to help of the Goblins in this case, Corvus. You can give them twenty pounds of basilisk meat as payment for their help and sell them the rest. It's a very rare delicacy and one that can only be appreciated by them. The skin can be used for armor and any shed skin through the tunnels can be used for potions ingredients. Even if we kept 1/16th of this for ourselves, we would have a lifetime of experimenting to do."
Corvus thought for a moment and nodded. "Only problem being this needs to be started tonight. I don't doubt they will try to come and claim what is here. It is not only Shasa that I worry for." He led the two around the Basilisk and into the tunnel.
"Good Evening, young Heir," came the portrait's voice.
"Evening Lord Slytherin. I bring with me Severus Snape, current head of Slytherin House and Madame Amelia Bones, head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement."
"Well met both of you."
"Well met, Lord Slytherin," they both repeated, in awe.
"I am having problems with the current Headmaster trying to lay claim to Shasa," Corvus began explaining to the Portrait, "and I fear for what he will use his remains for. These two are here to help me. Are there other entrances and exits? And would you be opposed to Goblins assisting with what needs to be done?"
"If you follow this tunnel to the left it will lead you at the edge of the forbidden forest. I also have a study down here which has a staircase leading into the dungeons. And no, I have no problems with the Goblins assisting. I would be honored to have such a warrior race help my Shasa."
Corvus looked at Severus, who seemed to be fighting his urge to drool. "Sev, I think Madame Bones and I should head out of the tunnel to the forbidden forest. I will call upon Huginn to meet us and send a note to Ragnok about getting a force together this evening."
"Thank you Corvus."
The young Ravenclaw nodded and led the way down through the tunnel. Once outside, he whistled for his raven and mentally asked for him to bring quill and parchment.
It only took moments for him to arrive with the required materials.
"Ah, so your name is Huginn, hmm handsome?" Madame Bones crooned.
Corvus knelt on the ground to write his note, but snorted, "He has a big enough head as it is Madame."
/You know I love you, Huginn/ he added mentally.
"Mr. Lestrange, I think it may be faster if I were to apparate to Gringotts. This way your friend will not be too tired."
Corvus looked surprised at the offer, "Are you sure Madame-"
"I would not have offered if I wasn't sure." She said with a smile. "Finish your note and then I will be off. Set up some wards around the chamber when you return. Bring Huginn with you and have him meet us at the exit so he can lead us in."
Ten minutes later, Madame Bones had gone and Corvus was setting up wards and showed Huginn how to get into the chamber.
/The things you get yourself into, young Master/ the raven said when he saw the large Basilisk.
/Not by choice!/ Corvus replied.

In Diagon Alley, Madame Bones was meeting with Ragnok after explaining who she came representing.
"Greetings Ragnok,
May this letter find you well.
Last evening I was given the unfortunate task of killing an ancient basilisk. He was the familiar of Salazar Slytherin and had gone mad in his isolation in the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts.
Severus Snape suggested that I contact you to assist in harvesting. I offer 20 lbs of Basilisk meat and a good price on the remaining. Madame Bones has seen the serpent in case you want to double check the size or need to see how much of a force you will need.
We really need to get this started ASAP, meaning tonight. Albus Dumbledore is trying to force his way into my Right of Conquest. I promised Shasa and the portrait of Lord Slytherin that I would care for the remains.
Madame Bones knows how to get into the chamber from the edge of the forest on the outside of the wards of the school.
May your blades be ever sharp.
Corvus Cygnus LeFay Ravenclaw Lestrange"
Ragnok was shocked at what the missive contained and did request a memory of the size of the Basilisk as Corvus had suggested. He ended up calling twenty five goblins to his side, having no doubt that he could persuade the young Lestrange to increase payment to 50 lbs of meat, giving each goblin 2 lbs of the rare delicacy.
()
It was an hour after Madame Bones left that Corvus heard Huginn calling to him. /Young master, they have arrived. I count twenty-five warriors with your Auror friend/
/Very well, Huginn. Lead them in. Thank you./
Corvus called out to his godfather, "Severus. The goblins have arrived. Huginn has counted twenty five."
"That will definitely be fast. They will have this cleared out by the end of the night, early morning at the latest."
Corvus watched the tunnel and smiled widely at Ragnok leading the group.
"Greetings Ragnok, may your halls be lined with gold," he greeted in Gobbledegook.
"Young Corvus! How are you?" the goblin replied jovially. "Greetings, may your blade be always sharp."
"First, payment. Have you seen the memory?"
"I have. I brought twenty five of our finest. They will break down the great serpent respectfully."
"I also have some shed skins throughout these tunnels that will need harvesting. Perhaps send five out after those?"
"Agreed. 20lbs is too little to be broken down evenly amongst the group. I was hoping you would be amenable to two pounds per goblin, or 50lbs meat total."
Corvus took a moment to look at Shasa and calculate. "That is amenable. Your goblins will jar all they harvest. Once Severus and I see how much there is, we will see how much needs to be put into storage and how much will be sold. All the meat I will sell to the goblins at fair prices."
"Agreed. It will be done by tomorrow morning."
The two bowed to each other and Corvus turned to Madame Bones, who was staring slightly open mouthed at the youth. "I thank you for your assistance, Madame. Without you I would still be trying to get past the old man. If you would like to stay around for the Basilisk, feel free. I will be exploring with Severus."
Madame Bones quickly stood straight, but gave a slight smile, "I thank you for trusting me to be here with you, Mr. Lestrange, and for trusting me with the information about your lineage. I will remain until the goblins have finished and escort you back to the school in case they give you problems again."
Corvus nodded his thanks and walked to Shasa to run his hands along her scales one final time. ::Farewell, great one:: He stepped back and let the goblins get to work. He couldn't watch.
He walked to Salazar's portrait, where Severus hugged him. "They are working now," he said, wiping his eyes. He was happy for the serpent, but sad that he had to be the one to kill him.
Salazar looked at him with a sad smile. "Thank you, young Heir." Corvus nodded his head. "To open my study you need to say in parseltongue 'Ravenclaw's Heir requests entry'. Your intentions will be tested and if found acceptable, you will be admitted along with any you choose. Just be sure to say their names as soon as you walk through."
Corvus nodded, ::Ravenclaw's Hair requests entry:: he said easily. He felt an old magic washing over and through him, truly testing him. The portrait slid to the side and Slytherin smiled.
Corvus stepped into a circular study. As soon as he stepped in, he said ::I, Corvus LeFay Ravenclaw Lestrange, Heir of Ravenclaw request entry for Severus Tobias Snape.::
A moment later, Severus was beside him and the two began looking around the amazing library. Corvus knew he would need to have Ragnok come and copy the books for him, with Slytherin's permission of course.
()
It was just past 7am by time all was done. Severus and Corvus had spent most of the night going through Slytherin's study, falling asleep around 4 in the morning.
As discussed, each goblin was given two pounds of basilisk meat as payment. Everything else was split into two vaults. The first was a high security vault set up for Corvus for this specific purpose. Ragnok had put the papers through before he left the bank. The second was a vault to be used by the goblins to sell the excess Basilisk parts.
The skin and half the supply of blood, venom, innards, and an eye was sent to Corvus' own vault. Everything else, including the remaining meat was placed in the merchant vault. The meat was placed in stasis jars to remain fresh. A contract was signed to be sure that the best prices were paid for it.
All items in the merchant vault were reserved for Healers and hospitals, through Corvus' request. While he knew it would take longer to sell the materials, he would continue to honor the request made of him.
Severus got half of the Basilisk parts, with the requirement that he not use it for anything regarding the Dark Lord without going through Corvus first. When asked why, Corvus explained his promise. He was not okay with Shasa's donation to be used in potions that would kill and torture muggles and muggleborns.
Severus wasn't happy about that, but understood the younger wizard's point of view and want to keep the promise. He made the promise, knowing he would have to keep his supply of basilisk parts secret.
At least I have more for my own research, he thought to himself, and Corvus gave me 2 full shed skins.
Before the goblins left, Corvus cornered Ragnok and had the goblin make copies of all of the books within Slytherin's study. He paid the goblin with an extra 5 lbs of meat. The Goblin was so happy that he ended up making two copies of every book, one set for Corvus and the other for Severus.
A/N: Again I apologize for my absence. I had a scare with a plagiarist and almost took Corvus down, but as someone told me, that person would win. Not to mention I would miss all of my readers.
I've put Corvus off for a bit, trying to figure what direction he is pulling me in. I had issues updating this story but luckily it's working tonight.
For anyone complaining about short chapters, I really do apologize, but you have to admit I have come a long way (considering some of the chapters in my first stories were under 1000 words!)
Also, I may not reply to every review, but please know, I read each and every one! (It's how I became aware of the plagiarism! lol)
So what did you think about this chapter? I'm slowly trying to get Corvus out of his shell and to show a stronger front.
