When he heard the knock on the bedroom door, Sirius knew it was Snape. Kreacher had popped in about a half an hour ago to deliver the message from Remus that Snape needed to talk to them. As Harry was doing about the same as the day before and they had retired to their room for the afternoon after they sat outside that morning, they thought it best to have him come up here rather than them go downstairs. He had made sure Harry was dressed in his normal clothes and the partition was up to hide 'Harry's room' from view, the same with bits like the stuffed animals on the bed being put away. 'His' side of the room looked like normal, so he didn't think there would be any stress over something Snape might see. Well, he hoped not.
After opening the door and gesturing for the man in black to come in, Sirius glanced at Harry. He was pleased to see Harry was seated on one of the chairs over by the fish tank. Though Harry was alert, he still looked exhausted and down in the mouth. That was expected as he hadn't slept much better last night than he had the night before. Whatever the nightmares were related to, something Harry refused to talk about, they were causing real problems. He was hoping he could persuade Snape to spend time alone with him so they could figure out where it was coming from. Oh, he had a damned good guess, even though he didn't have to take some of the classes Snape did on the matter, but he wanted to know for sure before he jumped in to see what he could do.Once he took a seat on the arm of the chair Harry was sitting in, slipping an arm around his shoulders and pulling him close, he waited for Snape to conjure a chair then take a seat himself. “What's up? I assume something is going on if you asked to talk to us alone.” He hoped that whatever it was wouldn't make all Harry was dealing with even worse.“Nothing overly troublesome, but there is something you need to prepare for,” Severus told them with a shake of his head. However, he was taking in how Harry looked and was troubled by it. Of course, he expected him not to handle the looming trial well and this was just a manifestation of that stress, but it appeared worse than the day before.Sirius gave Harry a reassuring squeeze when he felt his godson lean against him then asked, “Tell us what's going on and we'll do what we can.”“I had another meeting with Albus this morning. Unlike the last one, it wasn't about Harry. This time it was about the Dark Lord. As we all know he's trying something, though none of us know what. He told me he's having a meeting tomorrow night. My understanding is everyone will get word after what would be considered normal business hours today.”“Nothing we can't deal with,” Sirius nodded, though was relieved it wasn't more off the wall shit they had to wiggle around. “Harry can just stay up here like normal.”“I don't think that's a good idea,” Severus sighed, eyes once more flicking to Harry, who was looking at him. “Harry needs to make an appearance. Again, my understanding is, from what Albus said, several are going to put the first feelers out about getting to know him better. If Harry isn't around, it's going to look quite odd. I did make it clear Albus needs to stay as far away from him as possible. It's my thought he will because he wants time for the dust to settle.”Before Sirius could say anything, Harry piped in, though his voice was quiet, “I'm really not up to talking to anyone and don't want to.”“He's not,” Sirius agreed, giving Harry another squeeze.“This I understand,” Severus agreed. “We don't want anyone thinking anything is off, though, or questioning too much on this. My thought was for Harry to be downstairs when everyone starts to arrive so they can see him and do whatever. Once everyone has gathered, he vanishes. It shouldn't be more than twenty minute or so. Even that brief amount of time will not only allow them to see him so they don't think anything is amiss, but realize he's not really in any shape to want to deal with people. We won't give up the why behind that, of course, but everyone can assume what they want. That should be the end of it.” Then he looked at Harry again and said, “If we do this, they're more likely to leave you alone for some time to come. Them doing so will give you time to get a grip on what you're dealing with. You also won't have to worry about so many popping over, as I'm sure Albus put the word out he wants some to get to know you.”With a groan, Harry hung his head forward then said, heavy sigh in his voice, “Understood. I'll be down there. Just don't expect me to get involved in whatever when it comes to conversation. I'm really not ready to deal with anyone. All I want is left alone and only you lot around.”“Just until everyone shows or slightly before,” Severus assured him. “I'm going to say you vanish before Albus shows up. Everyone is well aware you don't want to see him.”“Yeah, well, me seeing him might involve the use of my wand,” Harry snorted, shaking his head. “I want nothing to do with him.”“I think that's rather clear to everyone, Harry,” Sirius snorted, rubbing his head. “We'll plant ourselves by you and fend off anyone who is clueless. You have my word.”“We'll keep an eye out and back down anyone that doesn't get a hint,” Severus assured him. “Just worry about yourself, nothing more.”“All right,” Harry groaned, shaking his head. He didn't like it, but understood the why behind it. He would deal accordingly and get the hell out as fast as he could manage.
Sirius shut the bedroom door behind him and looked at Snape then sighed. They had finished talking over what was coming the next night and he asked the Potions Master to meet him in the hall so they could talk privately. When he saw a concerned look on Snape's face as he glanced at the door, he said, “Tomorrow sometime can you talk to Harry alone? He's not doing well and I'm not sure what to attempt to make it better. While I get where the problem is coming from, he doesn't want to talk about it. Even doing what I normally have isn't working. Hell, I'm not sure it's helping any.”
“I'll make time to come over tomorrow and see what I can manage to find out,” Severus said with a sigh. “Just don't expect much. I doubt he's going to give up the real reason behind what's going on.”“Anything will help,” Sirius told him honestly. “And if you can get me some hints about what might work to make this better, it'd be a huge help. I'm not sure what to do at this point,” he then admitted.“Let me see what I can get out of him,” Severus said, already wondering how he would manage. As he well knew, Harry wasn't one to give up anything personal unless you went about it an odd way. Then he added, “I'm going to look into a couple potions that might help him sleep. Dreamless Sleep is out, but there are a couple others I can whip up quickly that will help him get some rest and aren't addictive. Even a couple nights of sleeping a full night might assist the situation he's in.”“If you can find something, between the two of us we'll be manage to get him to take them,” Sirius assured him. “It's the nightmares waking him and what I was doing to help isn't working anymore.”“And it'll probably grow worse from here on out,” Severus groused, shaking his head. “Let me see what I can find. If I can come up with something, I'll pass it along then we'll go from there with whatever.” After he said that, he sighed again then imparted, “It's probably going to end up becoming worse until the trial. I think we all realize where it's coming from. It's my hope that once he's done facing them in court, it'll settle once more. Lucius told me there is no chance the two will get off, from what he knows. There is too much evidence.”“And I doubt Harry sees it that way,” Sirius snorted, folding his arms over his chest and leaning back against the wall. “Albus has pulled too much shit and wiggled so much, Harry has no faith in anything, from what I've managed to get out of him on the topic. It's not much, but I managed that much. I think, from the way he's worded some of what he says, he expects Albus to step in and do something again to get them off. It's not realistic, I've assured him of it, but he still seems like he's thinking along those lines.”“I can't say I blame him with all he's been through,” Severus sneered, shaking his head. “I'll bring that topic up as well. Albus is in a position that he has to worry about himself. While he won't, I'll also point out that his influence with so much is probably at the lowest ebb it's ever been. Even if he wanted to, after all this has come out and that hearing he just had, he has no chance of influencing anything. And if he would even look like he was trying to step in and help those odious people, the masses, and plenty in the government, would be after his head. They would probably manage to get it as well.”“Seriously, any hints you can give me on what to do, what to assure him of, how to deal with this, whatever, once you're done talking to him would be a huge help,” Sirius admitted with a shake of his head. “I'm doing all I can, but it's not working well and I'm not sure what else to pull out that might work.”“My only suggestion, until I talk to him, is we just keep reassuring him that Albus can't put his fingers in the whole nightmare. Add in we'll keep right on doing what we are; protecting him from everything. It's all I have, at the moment anyway. Something else might come up tomorrow we can use.” Severus told him with a shake of his head and a weary look on his face. “I think this is one we're just going to have to ride out and play by ear until that hearing.”“Right, I'll press on how I have been and see what else I can manage,” Sirius assured him, though, internally, he wasn't sure what he was doing was working. Until he found something else, he would keep trying, though. It's all he could do.Then, quietly, he changed topics and said, “There's something I want your opinion on. I'll get with Remus privately as well, but I think you're the better one to ask as you know Harry better.”“What do you want to know?” Severus asked, curious what it could be about.“The trial.” Sirius started. “One of the bits we learned in Auror training is though it's about the hardest step you'll ever take in your life if you were sexually assaulted, that testifying and sitting in on the trial can do you a world of good. I was wondering if Harry sitting in and listening, as long as he doesn't have to view those memories, might do him some good. You and Remus are going with him. His Solicitor is as well. With all of you along, you can sit with him while he listens. Look—Harry's dealing with so much that we have no means of getting him help for. If he watches them get slammed, something there is little doubt will happen, it might help. It's also going to assure him that Albus can't do a damned thing to wiggle around, get them off then force him back with them. I think, somewhere, Harry knows it's unrealistic, but it still seems like it's a fear. What do you think?” Then he waited to see what Snape said.Severus seriously pondered what Black suggested for a good couple of minutes then he gave a slow nod. “Yes, I think it's something we need to suggest. I'll bring it up to him tomorrow. What I'll also do is assure him we'll be with him throughout the whole trial, sitting right by his side. Other than the two instances he's dealt with when it comes to our legal system, he's not dealt with the judicial system. I don't think he realizes what adjudication of charges of sexual assaults against a minor are like. Especially in cases like this where there is little to no doubt, with an abundance of proof of what happened. They won't be nice on the pervert and his shrew of a wife. It would do him a world of good to hear it. If I remember correctly, he would also have the opportunity to give a statement after the verdict and just before the sentencing. Him writing something like similar, even if he doesn't want to read it and has one of us do it for him, could be quite cathartic.” Then he looked at Black and said, “It's a very good suggestion, one I wouldn't have thought of.”“Once you tackle the topic with him, let me know what he says then I'll go from there,” Sirius told him, already thinking over what he might need to do to convince Harry this was a good idea.“I will,” Severus assured him. “I'll also get with Lupin when we're done here and let him know it might be coming. He won't have an issue with it, I don't think.”“He won't,” Sirius agreed. “Just give him a heads up. While you spend time alone with Harry, I'll walk him through what I know of what's coming with the trial. If we can manage, we might want to get Harry's Solicitor to write up what he can expect. The man would know better than any of us and what to put in place so Harry doesn't have to deal with something we know he won't handle well.”“Something else we'll take on for Harry,” Severus agreed. “Let's see what I can get him to agree to.”“Snape, we need to worry about tomorrow night, we really do,” Sirius then groaned, shaking his head. “With the shape Harry's in, if someone screws with him or starts shit, he's going to blow all over them. If he does, it won't be nice and we'll have a helluva hard time dealing with it.”“I say let him,” Severus snorted, a grim sort of smile on his face. “We've all warned everyone the best we could what we're dealing with and how Harry's handling the situation. If they didn't listen and poke or try to start whatever, on their own heads be it. And the better we drive the point home to them, the more likely some are to pull their heads out then act like an adult on the matter. If they want to poke the dragon, let them feel the flames. In the end, such displays, as long as it doesn't involve violence or spells, can only help drive the points we've desperately tried to make home.”“Didn't think of it that way,” Sirius said with an evil grin and chuckle, scratching his chin. “Yeah, a good blow up will help us and probably him. We'll just have to make sure it doesn't go any further than shouting.”“Something we can easily do,” Severus smirked.“This could be great to watch,” Sirius tossed out there, still grinning. “Look, I'm going to tell him if they irk him, blow. None of us will say anything to him about it. Hell, we would if they did it to us, so he should be allowed to as well.”“Go ahead,” Severus nodded in agreement. “I'll reiterate the same thing tomorrow when I talk to him. He does not have to sit there and take them being fools. While he tries to remain polite, there comes a time that no longer works. We're there. He's taken more from the adults around him than he ever should have without getting help, that a show of temper is long overdue.”“I'll tell him that as well. It also might back the worst of the fools off from even trying anything with him, such as wiggling. We don't need that sort helping,” Sirius agreed. “I'll plant the seed and let you take it from there with him.” With a glance back at the door, he said, “Let me get back so he doesn't think we're plotting. He normally doesn't, but he's not at his best at the moment. We don't need help in making something already bad worse.”“Go ahead,” Severus told him. “I'll fill Lupin in so he knows what we're planning and can prepare.” Seeing Black nod, he then swept off, mind working on all that was coming and how to handle it.
When Sirius came back into the room, he found Harry curled up in bed with Elliot. To his eyes, his godson looked exhausted and probably was. With as little sleep he had managed over the last couple of days, he probably needed some more. As Harry tended to take a nap during the day, he thought this was a good time to see if he could help him get some.
After taking a seat on the edge of the bed, he began to fumble in the bedside table for something Lucius had picked up long before Harry was involved in the relationship with them. As he did, he said, “You look tired.”“I am,” Harry admitted with a tired groan, watching what Sirius was doing, wondering what he was looking for.“How about if I do something that might help relax you so you can get a bit more,” Sirius suggested, finding the bottle of massage oil.“What's that?” Harry asked, sitting up a tad, now more curious.“I'll give you a nice massage,” Sirius said, holding up the coconut scented oil. “Wiggle on out of your clothes and lay on your tummy. It should help relax you so you can get a bit more sleep.”Harry had never had a massage before and it sounded good, so he was willing to try. After stripping out of his clothes, he flopped on his stomach, clutching Elliot close, and watched Sirius. He was sure he would enjoy this!Once Sirius straddled Harry's hips, he dumped some of the oil on Harry's back then spread it around. After getting his back coated, he began to rub it in, starting with the shoulders. At the feeling produced by Sirius' hands on his tense muscles, Harry groaned loudly. “That feels great,” he muttered, starting to really relax.“Thought you might like it,” Sirius smiled, continuing to rub Harry's shoulders until the muscles started to loosen up. “It should make you feel better.”“It already is,” Harry told him with a contented sigh, body relaxing to the point that he felt like he was melting into the mattress. Eyes going shut, he muttered, “Never had this done before.”“I'll do it all you like,” Sirius told him, pleased with how it was helping. He then pressed on and moved down to Harry's upper back, rubbing it slowly, feeling the tense muscles relax under his hands. “A good rubdown makes you feel better when you're stressed.” As Harry was relaxing, he went over what they wanted to do the following day, making sure to tell him that it was fine to blow up on any morons that decided to play at being stupid. When he finished, he added, “Just so you don't take a swing at them or use your wand, we're not going to say a damned word to you. Might teach the idiots a lesson they won't forget as it doesn't appear anything anyone's said to them has sunk in.”“I can do that,” Harry chuckled, eyes still shut, feeling the tired sensation wash over him. “Without a problem, too. It—I don't want to deal with their crap, all there is to it. And the sucking up won't work either. They've made it clear how they really feel in like what they said to Mrs. Weasley. They are just changing tracks because of what she said, nothing more. If Dumbledore talked to them, they would ignore everything she said.”“That's exactly what plenty of them would do,” Sirius agreed, grumbling as he did since it pissed him off to no end. “Nothing you can say will fix that stance, of course, but it'll get the arseholes to leave you alone. In the scheme of this nightmare, that's about as good as we're going to get. Weeding out the ones we don't want around is for the best.”“True,” Harry mumbled as he started to drift off. This felt good enough it was starting to lull him to sleep. While he was pretty sure he wouldn't stay asleep, as more nightmares about Vernon would come, any little bit helped and he would grab it while he could.Very pleased this was working, Sirius switched to less stressful topics and just talked, keeping his voice soft and soothing as he did, hoping it helped. As it was helping, he would keep it in mind to use again. Anything in his arsenal to combat what was going on would be a great assist in all that was coming.
With a sigh, Molly passed the message from Albus back to Arthur. “We can't leave the kids here alone. While they're old enough, I don't trust them not to pull something foolish. Three of them have already proven they can't be trusted not to once more try something with poor Harry. And leaving Fred and George in charge is a recipe for disaster, as we both know.”
“I agree,” a tired Arthur said. “We're going to have to bring them along tomorrow night. Harry has been staying in Sirius' room, something we were told no one can get into, so they can find something to occupy themselves with. Either that or Fred and George can stay with Harry and make sure the others leave him alone. We'll manage. Somehow.”“We'll have a good talk with them before we go and make sure they know to leave Harry alone,” Molly told him, firm bent to her voice.“It's not worked before,” Arthur admitted with a sigh and sad shake of his head. “If it doesn't and they once more give it a shot, I say you come home with them and we won't allow them anywhere around Harry again.”“Yes, we'll do it that way,” Molly nodded, looking determined. “We'll send Bill over before we go so they know the three are coming. I'm sure Harry would like to see Fred and George anyway. The two of them told us they had a lot of fun while cleaning. It might be the last time they get to see him before school starts.”“We'll have them grab their brooms and they can fly a little.” Arthur smiled. “I was told the backyard is cleaned out and set up, so there is plenty of room for them.”“This is the plan we’ll go with. We won't warn any of them before we go, of course, so they don't have time to plot, but we should do fine.” Molly smiled, hoping Harry would have fun with the twins.“I hope so,” Arthur said, though a lot less confidant than his wife on the matter. He had a feeling that the three in question weren't going to get a clue until someone blew up on them. With what he knew, he was sure poor Harry was having a hard enough time as it was, so he needed no one poking.
