Grinning from ear to ear, Harry nodded vigorously at what his also grinning godfather held up for him to see. Not only was it emblazoned across the headlines of the Prophet that he was innocent, complete with a picture of him taken early that morning with Madam Bones, but his official pardon papers. He was officially cleared. “That is brilliant,” Harry said, unable to stop grinning.
“It is!” Sirius told him. “I've waited for this forever. It's almost like a dream. I would have Remus throw spells or something to prove it's not one, but he would enjoy that too much!”
Chuckling at that, Harry shook his head. “Any issues at all getting it or showing at the Ministry to pick that up?”
“None,” Sirius told him. “My solicitor was with me when I went, so there wasn't a problem. The only bit was I refused to meet with Fudge or Rufus. No chance there. Don't want to get arrested for hexing either of them over this nightmare. Madam Bones was fine about it. I also believed her when she said they were truly sorry and offered the official apology. That's it. I'm sure that Fudge doesn't like it as he probably wanted his picture taken with me, but I don't give a damn.”
“Don't blame you a bit there,” Harry told him honestly, leaning back. It was an odd time for the 'call' as it was before breakfast, but it was well worth it. “What are you going to do now? And don't make it something you'll get into trouble for all over again,” he added, grinning once more.
Laughing at that, Sirius told him, “Remus mentioned the same thing.” Sobering up, he said, “With what you lot think is coming, Remus and I, both, think it's best that I'm seen out and about. So, today I'm going to start taking forays out of the house for various things. Even if it's just to grab something to eat. We also thought that we'd start laying in all kinds of bits for you lot. I'm sure that Lucius has plenty around there to keep you busy, but we can come up with some more. And it wouldn't look odd for me to spend quite a bit of money like it would for Remus. That way, if the breakout does happen, no one can lay it on my shoulders.”
“Good plan,” Harry told him with a vigorous nod. “I didn't think about that.”
“It shouldn't happen as Peter, from what we know, is giving up everything, but better safe than sorry,” Sirius told him with a sigh. “We'll get you a copy of the paper when we can deliver it, but I'm sure it won't be today. It's a damned good bet that we're going to have all kinds of company today with this. That and Albus has called a meeting tonight for some of us. I'll let you know what goes on there if it's anything big.” Grinning, he added, “And Remus already grabbed several extra copies for me to keep.”
“I can understand why,” Harry told him with a grin himself. “Whenever you get time. I figured it wouldn't be today what with the excitement. I'm just glad I know and am happy you're not in danger of getting caught anymore.”
“As am I,” Sirius admitted. “It'll be nice to be able to get out of the house without having to worry about that or using a glamour. And I plan to.”
“Another thing I don't blame you a bit for!” Harry chuckled.
Seeing the signal go off from Remus to tell him they had company, Sirius sighed and shook his head. “I have to run. Someone is over. I'll give a shout later tonight and fill all of you in.”
“When you can. Just don't do anything to get in trouble!” Harry told him laughing. After a quick goodbye he shrunk the mirror and put it aside. This was a great way to start the day! Petting Kaliya and Nagini, both of whom were lounging on the bed, he said, “Alright, let's go have our normal threesome in the shower then find something to eat. I'm starving. Plus, I want to fill Lucius and Severus in on the great news.”
“You're ever so funny, Harry,” Kaliya said with a hissy chuckle, slithering onto his shoulders. “This is wonderful news, though.”
“It is,” Nagini said as she slithered off the bed and headed towards the bathroom. Calling out as she made her way there, she added, “It's my turn to hang on the rack.”
Laughing at that, as she and Kaliya took turns doing that, Harry shook his head and stood. This was a perfect way to start the day that's for sure!
Standing in his shower, head down, hands braced on the wall, Severus grimaced as the icy jets of water beat down on his back. Though it didn't feel the best, he felt it was appropriate 'punishment' for himself to suffer through for a short time. This was a normal morning ritual for him after waking. Not only did it wash away the last vestiges of sleep, but it was a form of personal 'penance' before he allowed himself the 'privilege' of hot water. As it was something he had done for years, he didn't think how strange it might seem to anyone else anymore. It was just something he started years ago after his spectacular stupidity had cost Lily her life. This morning, though, like so many for the last little bit, he felt he deserved it again.
The issue was a certain pair of green eyes and an almost unholy attraction to them. And, this time, they weren't Lily's. They were her son's. Harry—bloody hell. No! Shaking his head, groaning as he fought against shivering, he began a litany of mental floggings over it yet again. When this first started, right after Harry's growth spurt, he assumed that the erotic dreams about him had arisen because those eyes he so adored were no longer in a face that looked so much like James Potter. Though he no longer had problems with Harry, the way he looked was something that was still a slight issue for him. He was moving past it, of course, realizing the son was nothing like the father. While the eyes were Lily's, something he was damned sure triggered the dreams, they had moved on to the point that he realized that wasn't the case. No, it was Harry himself he was having the erotic dreams about. And if that wasn't horrifying, he didn't know what was.
The mere fact that Harry was the same age as students he taught and Lucius' son was enough to make him cringe. Add on whose son this was and he was in mental agony. Just—NO! However, nothing he did and no form of self-torture was helping stop them either. In fact, they seemed to grow in frequency lately. That helped nothing, especially his mental state. At this juncture, he couldn't look at Harry without getting snippets of those dreams. Bloody hell!
Groaning in mental agony, he turned his face up to the icy spray hoping that would help make the visions from the latest dream fade faster. Of course, it didn't, only making him shiver. With a grunt, he looked down, pleased that the erection he sported when getting into the shower went into hiding from the cold. Good! That was part of his plan.
Pushing off the wall, he adjusted the temperature to something comfortable, grabbed the flannel then began soaping it up. As he washed himself off, he tried to decipher the why behind the dreams. Though he wanted to try to stay analytical about it, he couldn't. There was no explanation beyond the fact that he found Harry attractive. Oh, he tried to delude himself that it was something else, but it didn't work. It came down to the attraction, nothing more. And that didn't help the mental anguish in the least.
Harry—he didn't know how to explain it. The honest truth was that Lily was his first and only true love. That's all there was to it. He didn't think that there was anyone else in the world that would accept him for just who he was when it came to something romantic. Lucius was something different entirely. They had been friends since school. Since her death there had been no one in the romantic sense. That didn't mean there weren't encounters of the sexual kind. That there had been. Most were men as women didn't seem to think he was sexually arousing. So, he had gone with what worked. That's what probably factored into this, unfortunately.
Scrubbing himself more vigorously than he needed to, he scowled as he thought about it. The truth was Harry was attractive. The eyes just added to it. Nothing more than that. He didn't look his age since the growth spurt and had grown into a handsome man that he was attracted to in a physical way. No, scratch that, it was more than physical. It was many ways. Like his mother, Harry, after getting over the initial part, accepted him and Lucius, both, for just who they were. In fact, Severus would admit to the fact that he considered Harry a friend. This just spawned from that. And there was not a damned thing he could do to stymie the attraction! That was the most horrific part of it. However, he vowed to everything he held dear that Harry would never learn about it. That and he would find a way to keep it under control.
Focusing on the last part, his brow furrowed. Today they planned to start on the Animagus transformation. Part of that was a form of meditation. That was something he thought could help with this nightmarish mess. If he could get the meditation down, he could use it in this area, or so he hoped. If that didn't work, he'd find something else. That he vowed. If it was the last thing he ever did, he would!
Groaning as he leaned back, Sirius grinned. He was completely stuffed. Before the meeting, plenty of order members had been over and brought a feast with them, like Molly, including a massive cake to celebrate his pardon. That was great. He ate too much, that's for damned sure, but it was wonderful. On top of that, he had gone to Diagon Alley earlier. Though he got some fearful looks tossed in his direction, most had left him alone and there was no harassment in sight. Perfect! His first true day of freedom without the looming sentence hanging over his head. That was an amazing feeling.
Though he was in a great mood from this bit, he had to focus. At the moment, they were settling in for a meeting. He had to pay attention to that as there were things that would be said he would have to either remember or pass on. It wouldn't do for him to miss something important. Not with what was going on, that's for damned sure.
Glancing around the table, he thought this very odd. Only a select few Order members were here. And they were ones that were good at very specific areas. That made him wonder what was going on and just what the old goat planned for with this. He had mentioned dividing the Order to tend to certain things. The one was already known; the hunt for Harry. This part, though, he had no idea what Albus might be doing. Which meant he had to stay focused.
Pleased with the fact that everyone he needed for this particular 'mission' was here, Albus nodded. Smiling, he said, “I'm going to start out by saying that Sirius is completely cleared, as we all know. This is a wonderful thing. It also means that Peter is talking. Kingsley and Tonks have managed to get some of what he's said to us, but most is protected by the official secrets act so they can't. We can all guess what it is, though. Coupled with that article, we can be assured that the war is about to kick into high gear. I'm also certain that Cornelius is at the end of his denial about so much and will do the right thing.”
“Or is going to be out on his backside,” Moody snorted, shaking his head. “I'm going to bet it's the latter.”
“Very true,” Albus agreed with a nod. “I'm going to agree that an election is coming soon. Between the newspaper article, Sirius' pardon and so much else, the populace should be howling for his head come tomorrow. Then he'll be out. It's my hope that, if that does happen, we get someone in that can take on Tom and do what we need, not fumble.” Sighing, he said, looking around, “I've managed to get a good DADA teacher. There is an ex-Auror that's been living abroad I was able to get my hands on. For now, Dolores Umbridge will still be in the castle in another post, but not teaching DADA. Thankfully, I was able to get him in there in time. The same with Horace Slughorn. Which means, though we have to put up with Dolores, our children will get taught right. If Cornelius does go, it's my hope she will as well. No one in the Ministry looks good right now. That will reflect on this portion as well.”
“Some high-ranking members of the Board have contacted me as well about beefing up security for Hogwarts. That I'll let them do. If this unleashes what we all think it will, I may call some of you in as well to help during things like Hogsmeade visits. It won't be official, of course, but it can only assist if you're in the village at the same time the students are.”
“Whatever you need there, Albus,” Remus told him truthfully. “We'll do all we can.”
Pleased with that, Albus nodded. Face taking on a somber look, Albus sighed then pressed on to the real reason behind the meeting, “As I told you the other day, I'm dividing the Order in half so we can focus on two specific areas. As you all know, Minerva is heading up the faction looking for Harry. All of you here I chose for another reason. It's your ability to hunt and research something very dark. Unlike Minerva's faction, I need all of you to keep what is said here and the hunt to yourselves. As we press on and find the objects I need you to look for, I'll shift a couple people from the hunt for Harry to this one because of special skills.”
On full alert now, as this was big and Sirius wasn't sure what it might be about, he asked, after a glance at the equally concerned Remus, “What are we hunting for, Albus?”
Shaking his head, Albus sighed then said, “I'm about to walk you through one of the darkest pieces of magic anyone can do. And Tom did. He took that step for no reason other than he fears death. It's called a Horcrux.” Glancing around the table, he began to tell the group assembled about the lengths Tom went to for nothing more than his fear of dying. When he finished, seeing sick looks from all there, he said, “I know he created more than one.” Pulling the diary out and placing it on the table, he said, “That was one. I'm sure there are others. Which means, in order for this war to end, we have to find them all and destroy them. And that isn't as easy as it sounds. Though I have clues as to where some might be, it's not a lot. Which is where all of you come in. You are the best we have at hunting for such items. And we need to do this fast before the war starts down the road it did last time.” Quietly, he then walked them through the clues he did have before dividing up who was to do what.
Trying not to glance at Remus as the old man talked, Sirius couldn't help himself. This was huge and what they needed. Good. If they could get the hints that Albus had to Lucius and Severus, it would be a huge help. Seeing a similar expression on his friend's face, Sirius vowed to get with Harry when he was sure everyone had cleared out for the night. Yeah, this was important and needed passed on. Fast. It could only help, that's for damned sure.
“We've got every bit of information the old goat has, or was willing to tell us about anyway,” Sirius said looking in the mirror at the three. “Remus and I are something like the research department. Any bit of information that anyone comes up with will be passed to us so we can look into it. And we're going to help where we can. Tomorrow have one of the elves pick me up and I'll bring copies of everything we got tonight to all of you. It's our hope you can help or see something we can't. Oh, we won't pass that on, that's for damned sure, and will go take care of it ourselves then give you the objects. You need to keep them safe. In the end, as you lot may end up in trouble, this is something that can help bail your arses out of it. And we keep Albus going in circles if he can't find anything.”
“It's our thought that he won't consider that Sirius and I are sending him false information. We can toss enough of the truth in there to keep him busy,” Remus added. “We also need anything you can give us that might help. That spell to detect Horcruxes you found is something we are grateful for at this time.”
“We'll get you over here,” Lucius assured him in a firm tone with a nod. It had been their thought that this would end up as nothing more than Black filling them in on the bit at the Ministry and some he may have picked up. Instead, it was far bigger.
“This can only help,” Severus told the two in the mirror, glancing between Harry and Lucius as well.
“It can,” Remus told him with a nod. “We think that he's backed so far into a corner by so much that he has to press on and is starting to give up his secrets. We've tossed every plan he honed for so long into the bin that he's having to scramble.” Smiling, he added, “And that's not a bad thing either.”
“It isn't,” Lucius smirked, pleased.
“It means that we need to find these objects before he can,” Severus said, tone distracted. “That way he can keep running in circles.”
“We think he's hoping to get this done and out of the way then do everything in his power to find Harry. Wormtail knows nothing. That's probably going to come out. Which means he's going to focus elsewhere. That we need to worry about because he's going to get more desperate than he was before.”
“Or we need to press for the final showdown once we have the objects destroyed,” Lucius told him. “I think that's for the best.”
“Probably,” Sirius conceded. “Let's see what Remus and I can manage. I don't want to dance in that direction until we find all this nastiness.”
“Very true,” Severus admitted, looking down as he thought it over. Quietly, he said, “We need to pick a day where you two come over so we can plan out something for this bit. It's better to have the most rudimentary of strategies in place ahead of time. That and go over all you have together. Perhaps we can see something that way we can't just looking at it alone.”
“We'll see what day we can manage to slip away,” Remus said. “Once Albus is back to school, that'll be far easier. I think he wants as much in place as he can get now as he then has to divide his focus on the castle.”
“Very true,” Severus admitted. Smirking, he added, “And it feels wonderful not to have to prepare to go back and be under his thumb.”
“Oh, I bet,” Sirius snickered, grinning from ear to ear.
Giving an amused snort at that, Lucius said, “Let us know what you two can manage then we'll plan accordingly.”
“We all make a pretty good team,” Harry snickered, relaxing back and petting Kaliya. “We not only have Lord Loony frothing at the mouth and more insane than normal, but Dumbledore chasing all kinds of shadows, panicking.”
“We do!” Sirius said, grinning bigger. “We're going to have to remember that! Never thought Moony and I would team up with two Slytherins, but it's worked quite well.”
“Oh yes,” Remus admitted with a smile. “Whatever we can't come up with, you three can. It's worked out amazingly well.” Sobering up, he asked, “With Peter in custody, should we still be tossing out Harry's bits or not?”
“Keep tossing them,” Lucius said with a nod. “Wormtail may be in custody, but the others aren't. It can only help turn the heat up on our patsies. In the end, those false clues won't mean anything. After all, we have Harry's consent to do so. And the others? It won't matter. We'll find a way to negate that in the end. Nothing at all to worry about, gentleman.” Lucius assured them.
“I would wait for the next one until school resumes,” Severus added. “That way Albus and Minerva, both, are tied up and can't do what they normally would. It can only help.”
“We can get them set up to go now and time them for after term starts,” Sirius said. Thinking it over, he grinned evilly then added, “And I think it's time to up the stakes slightly. We'll come up with something good that won't come back to bite us in the arse when this is over.”
“This should be good,” Harry said with a big grin.
“It should,” Lucius agreed, smirking again. “Just be careful. With so much panning out and the Dark Lord about to go on a rampage the likes of which we've never seen, even during the first war, you need to exercise extreme caution, gentlemen.”
“Don't worry about us,” Remus assured him, smiling. “We won't get caught.”
Shaking his head, wondering what the deranged Black had in mind, Severus couldn't help but think this was bound to be something most amusing that would send plenty scrambling. “I cannot wait to see this.”
“You'll love it,” Sirius said with another grin, already having an idea of what he wanted to do this time. And it was perfect.
Sobering up, Remus looked at Lucius and asked, “For our information, what do you think is coming with the Ministry? It was mentioned tonight that Fudge is probably on his way out. If he is, what do you think is coming and who might take his place? You're far better versed in this area than we are, Lucius. It would be most helpful to get some foreshadowing of what to expect.”
Leaning forward, elbows resting on his knees, Lucius thought it over then said, tone distracted, “I'm going to agree that Cornelius is probably done. Clearing Sirius, Wormtail, all of it is going to show that he's inept. All that he's done is about to come bite him in a big way. Which isn't a bad thing. We need someone in that position who is a wartime Minster that will do what's needed. My guess would be Madam Bones. She is perfect for the job and will tend to matters without the pandering Cornelius did. That or Scrimgeour. One of the two. Though I would lay my money on Amelia. If one of them gets in, expect a hard line on protection and doing what's needed. That can only help, honestly.” Then, he went on to list what he thought was coming. It wasn't something he had thought of, what with them being out, but Black and Lupin needed to know what they were dealing with to be able to help. So, he would hypothesize the best he could for them.
