Draco and Severus sat in silence. Severus waited calmly for his godson to speak but the blonde stared at his fingers only glancing up every so often. Eventually, Severus sighed.
“Draco…”
“You are a right bastard, you know that?” Draco narrowed his eyes at Severus when the new vampire simply arched a brow. “You couldn’t have told us what you were doing? You couldn’t have mentioned that you were somehow taking in vampires’ blood?” Draco paused his eyes going wide. “Was it Harry’s?”
“No, it was not Harry’s.” Severus rested a hand on the bed to lean on. “Harry would have probably had a stroke if I had tried. The Pair bond we were in prevented that. Dante had left me some just in case I chose to use it. I was not willing to give anyone false hope in case it didn’t actually work.”
Draco huffed. “You had plenty of venom in your system from Harry feeding from you; of course it would bloody work.”
“Not necessarily. I kept vomiting after drinking it. Even when I only took the smallest amounts I’d be sick within moments. I had no idea how long it took for the stuff to be absorbed into the system after ingesting." Severus ran a hand through his hair with another sigh. “Harry was worried enough.”
“And the rest of us?” Draco snapped. “You couldn’t even mention it to Edge? At least then he would have known to look harder for you. Or perhaps given you his own blood if you were so damn determined.”
“Alright!” Severus snapped back. “I messed up. I get it.” Severus stood to pace. “Maybe I should have at least filled in Edge. Who knows, maybe he would have decided to overlook his own painful transition and let me go through one just the same. I highly doubt it though considering just how bad it was.”
Severus shivered. He couldn’t remember great detail, thankfully, but his body remembered the ghost feeling of it. He had ached for days afterward. Severus turned back to Draco.
“I’m sorry, alright. I’ll be making this up to you, Harry, and apparently Edge for many years to come, I know this, but it was a choice that I would make again.”
Draco watched the older man silently. Despite being agitated, Severus looked lighter, less stressed, and more open than Draco could ever remember seeing him look. “What does being a mind weaver mean?”
Severus blinked at the change of subject before smirking wryly. “It means my mind magic is stronger than it has ever been. Even Dante, who had over five centuries worth behind him, had trouble getting into my mind before we returned. The Dark Lord doesn’t stand a chance of getting in.”
Draco stared. “Edge mentioned you could make others see what they needed to…”
Severus nodded. “Without them even being aware.”
“That is frightening as hell.” Draco mumbled.
“Yes.” Severus agreed sitting back on the bed.
“Can you read our thoughts?”
“I can, if I wanted to, which I don’t. Adolescent teenager is not something I would like to delve back into.” Severus smirked as he teased the younger man.
Draco rolled his eyes. “Ha, ha.” The blonde sighed. “Edge is weary of you.”
“For good reason.” Severus stated. “Mind weavers are the most powerful of the Animalis variants, according to Dante, for obvious reasons.” He looked at the floor. “Edge will be careful with me for a time, I’m sure, but only because this is his clan. Obviously, he still trusts me though considering he left me with you.”
Draco snorted. “He is just on the other side of the wall. I bet he hasn’t even left the Infirmary.”
Severus chuckled. “True but there is still a wall. It doesn’t take that long to damage a mind.”
Draco shivered at the thought but knew his godfather would never hurt him. A hand rested over his wounded shoulder as it throbbed.
“You should let Edge help take care of that.” Severus said softly. “He is a healer.”
Draco closed his eyes with a sigh. “I know but he is so tired right now.”
Severus rested a hand on Draco’s knee. “It will help him if you allow him to do what he can. There might even be a chance to persuade the wolf in his direction if he heals you while the wolf is settling.”
Draco looked up at Severus with a hopeful expression. “You think so?”
“Maybe. Don’t put all your hope into it.” Severus warned. “But feeling Edge’s magic, being exposed to it in a helpful and soothing way, may help the wolf be more open to him.”
Draco allowed a small soft smile creep over his face. “I missed you.”
Severus nodded. “You too.”

Harry scooped up the fox the second it entered the rooms. Severus yelped in surprise but settled quickly into the arms that carried him through the rooms into the bedroom. He wiggled enough that Harry let him jump from his arms onto the bed before he transformed. Harry was on him immediately.
“Harry!” Severus caught Harry as he fell back against the mattress.
Harry kissed Severus before he could say anything other than his name. He kissed his mate deeply running his hands over a firm chest. Severus returned the kiss with equal fervor gripping Harry’s hips in his hands.
“You’ve scent marked the rooms.” Harry rubbed their cheeks together; his hands slid under the shirt Severus was wearing.
“I did.” Severus sighed in contented pleasure. “Problem?”
“Absolutely not.”
Their mouths melded back together as hands roamed and explored. Clothes were steadily discarded as they reacquainted themselves with each other. Harry licked, nipped, and kissed his way across and down Severus’ chest, his abdomen, and lower. Dark eyes watched intently as a mark was sucked on the same area Harry had once bitten and marked before.
“I can just make it out.” Harry whispered looking up at Severus with bright green eyes. “There is still a scar.”
Severus hummed. “Yes, there is.” He threaded his fingers through unruly black hair. “You can redo it, if you would like.”
A bit of gold bled into Harry’s eyes. “You want me to?”
“Don’t play coy.” Severus let a soft growl escape.
Harry’s eyebrows rose at the sound. “Did you just growl at me?”
Another growl. “So what if I did?”
Harry narrowed his eyes and returned the growl giving the pale thigh a sharp nip and grinning at the resulting hiss and moan.
“Damn it, brat, just bite me already.”
“You mean it?”
The hesitance in Harry’s voice had Severus taking a breath and letting it go as a sigh. “Yes, Harry, I’m sure.”
Harry leaned down and suckled the area a little more; Severus closed his eyes at the feeling, before Harry once again lifted to look at him. Severus groaned reopening his eyes.
“Do you…I mean…Do you want to mark me too?”
It took a lot of strength not to sigh at Harry’s nervousness. Severus had literally died and come back to life for him and still Harry was hesitant. He pulled the younger man up into a kiss; fang and tongue tangling in their mouths.
“I want to do so much more than that, Harry.” Severus purred into his ear relishing in the shiver that took over the smaller body. “I want to touch you, taste you, and surround you in my scent until no one will believe you are anything other than mine.”
Harry moaned pressing into the hard body beneath him. “Please…”
Severus chuckled slightly pushing Harry back down. “You first.”
Harry needed no more prompting or coaxing. Fangs entered his thigh for the second time, and Severus was lost. The feeling was so much more this time as magic flowed over him settling into his very core. It weaved throughout his entire body entangling and mixing with his own magic sending heatwaves to every nerve ending. He gripped at Harry and cried out in complete overwhelm.
The taste in Harry’s mouth was so similar, still very addicting, and yet different at the same time. The blood still carried heat but not like it had before. Harry still drank greedily, still tingled with the magic flowing through him, still did not want to let go, but subconsciously knew that this was not hunger fulfilling. This was fulfilling another need. He left his bite open, leaving it to heal on its own, moving to press his mouth to Severus’ in a blood stained kiss.
Groans escaped them in tandem. Severus flipped them over, pinning Harry to the bed, as he thoroughly cleaned that mouth of any remaining drops. He took Harry in a firm, confident grip causing Harry to gasp as he stroked him.
“Sev…”
“I know.” Severus whispered.
Dark and green eyes were filtered with gold. Fingers dug into Severus’ shoulders as Harry breathed harshly through his nose as Potion stained fingers continued solid strokes. One of Harry’s fangs had caught his lower lip underneath it.
Severus lowered himself along Harry’s body leaving nips on his way. He ran his tongue over the skin of Harry’s inner thigh feeling the pulse of the blood underneath. It was heady in its own unique way, calling out to him in a way entirely different from feeding. He suckled the skin; testing. Harry mewled above him, his leg twitching and back arching. Barely any color rose to the surface.
Staying where he was, instead of biting down on the pale thigh, Severus moved to take Harry in his mouth instead.
“Severus!” Harry called out in surprise and pleasure.
Finger’s tangled in his hair almost painfully, but Severus only groaned around the fullness in his mouth. A quick silent charm had his fingers liberally lubed so he could press one against the sphincter of Harry’s opening.
Harry pressed against him. “Please.” Came the eager plea.
Who was Severus to deny him? He slipped his finger in, slowly working Harry through any discomfort by curling his tongue around his tip before lowering back over him, taking him in completely as Harry came with a cry. Severus swallowed him down.
Multiple cleaning charms later found Severus curling around a spent Harry who blinked blearily up at him.
“You didn’t bite me.” Harry quietly complained.
Severus shook his head. “For your health, you need to replenish your stores first.” He nuzzled close at Harry’s resulting pout. “There currently isn’t enough there for me to take.”
Harry sighed, but nodded before wrapping around Severus like a baby koala. Severus huffed but smiled summoning a goblet and reciting the spell Draco had told him to fill it with blood. He offered it to Harry who grumbled at having to move.
“No arguments, Harry.”
The young man caved, drinking it hurriedly. Severus thought about making him drink another but decided it would be best to increase slowly. Harry handed it back to him with a pointed look.
“Don’t look at me like that. I am capable of skipping tonight even with the amount you took.” Severus set the goblet on the table behind him knowing the house elves would gather it during the day.
Harry huffed and cuddled back close. Severus pressed his nose into the unruly hair taking in the scent that filled him with warmth. So this was what Harry meant when he had said Severus smelled like them. His own sandalwood mixed well with Harry’s autumn leaves leaving him feeling content and perfectly at home.

Draco did not have to wait long after Severus left for Edge to return to his vigil. He was slightly irritated by the cool and distant attitude that Edge had adopted with him but knew that it wasn’t completely his fault. The Slytherin wished he knew the words to say that would help the vampire, but had to settle for silent support instead.
Edge sat in the chair beside the bed with his head back and eyes closed. His hands rested clasped in his lap while his legs stretched out crossed at the ankle. He looked peaceful though Draco knew his thoughts were anything but. The urge to curl up in the other man’s lap was outweighing the requirement that he stay in the bed, but when he moved to do just that, those blue eyes opened to settle on him intently.
“What are you doing?” Edge asked softly. Mere curiosity filled his voice.
Draco stopped with his feet just touching the floor. His left arm moved to cradle the other attached to his mangled shoulder. “I…” Draco looked away not able to meet those blue eyes. “I wanted to cuddle.” He admitted in a quiet voice. Why was he suddenly feeling so shy? He never had trouble meeting Edge head on before.
The vampire tilted his head slightly as though thinking the same thing. He didn’t comment though and stood gently moving Draco back into the bed being careful of his shoulder. Draco sighed in disappointment as Edge left his side.
Edge chuckled suddenly appearing on Draco’s left making the blonde jump. “Don’t look so depressed, little dragon; I can’t cuddle into your injured side, now can I?”
Draco huffed and turned away to hide the blush that threatened to creep embarrassingly on his cheeks. Edge settled close an arm resting over Draco’s hips as he nuzzled into his uninjured shoulder. He felt cooler than normal against Draco’s heated skin. Draco winced suddenly realizing that Edge had yet to feed since his ordeal. He had been injured and lost a good bit of blood from the looks of him the night before.
“Do you need to eat?”
Edge shook his head. “I took from the stores earlier. You need time to heal up before feeding me.” He added feeling Draco tense against him.
Draco relaxed knowing the statement made sense. “But you feel cooler than normal.”
“I’m not, you’re just warmer.” Edge shifted to be able to look at Draco as he spoke. “Werewolves naturally run at a higher temperature than most creatures. Your base temperature will fluctuate throughout the month as the wolf settles getting worse during the two weeks just before your first moon.”
Draco looked down at his hands in his lap. “My entire life is going to be different, isn’t it?”
“Sirius and Remus are here to help and are willing to answer any questions you may have.” Edge commented encouragingly. “Don’t hesitate to reach out to them.”
Draco nodded but didn’t answer. Edge leaned close to nudge his cheek gently with his nose before resting his head against his shoulder in a silent show of support. The blonde closed his eyes tightly against the tears that wanted to flow.
Any future prospects he may have had was gone. He would be lucky if he even got to keep his inheritance once his father found out. And what was worse, there was a very big chance he would lose the man beside him as well. His chest felt tight and his lungs burned as it was suddenly hard to breathe. Draco pressed the heels of his hands tightly against his eyes.
“Draco…” Edge whispered shifting to wrap his arms around the crying young man and holding him close. “I’m so sorry, Draco.”
“It’s not your fault.” Draco gasped out trying to control his breathing with little luck.
Edge stayed with him. Silent but a steady presence beside him, the vampire made a point of breathing deeply and evenly to help Draco recalibrate his own breathing. It was a slow process but Draco eventually calmed relaxing limply against the other man. Edge held him without a word resting his cheek against blonde hair with eyes closed.
The wound on Draco’s shoulder ached and burned as the Slytherin became aware again. He must have forgotten his pain potions but Madam Pomfrey usually delivered those. Draco blinked open burning eyes from crying.
“How long has it been since my last potion?” He asked tiredly.
“A couple of hours.” Edge whispered. “You are due for your next dose.” Edge sat up to look at Draco worriedly. “Are you in pain?”
Draco shrugged wincing as it pulled his shoulder. The vampire sighed. “Draco…”
“You can work on it.”
Edge was silent and still long enough that Draco looked up at him. The vampire swallowed looking nervous for some reason. Hadn’t he wanted to heal it last night? Did he not want to anymore?
“Edge?”
“I would have to…unwrap it…to see what I needed to do.”
Draco lowered his gaze resting his head back on a cool shoulder. “It’s okay.”
Another minute passed before Edge gently nudged Draco to sit up so he could carefully unwind the bandages. They pulled a bit where they had stuck to the wound. Draco winced but made no sound not wanting to unsettle Edge further than he already appeared to be.
A whimper left Edge’s throat as the last bandage came away. Draco looked down and away to hide his shameful tears. It would not be a pretty scar. Greyback had torn the skin badly, ripping it instead of just sinking his teeth in. Draco knew he was lucky to have any mobility in it right now.
The top of his shoulder was spared but those teeth had sunk deep into the pectoral and scapular muscles. Greyback had shaken him like a ragdoll and had been dragging him off, kicking and screaming, when Cobalt had arrived. The deranged wolf had still not wanted to let him go forcing Cobalt to bite into his face, cracking the bones, to force his teeth to let go. Draco couldn’t remember much more other than being shifted and rolled carefully onto Moony’s back and flashes of the trip to the Infirmary. He had been in too much pain to focus on much once he knew he was safe; safe from Greyback’s clutches at least.
Edge cradled Draco’s face carefully and intently, kissing the tears away before pressing their foreheads together.
“I’ll work on your back first so you’ll be able to rest more comfortably.”
Draco nodded unable to speak. Edge helped him move so he could easily reach his back and had just settled when the vampire froze. Draco looked back at Edge to watch him shake whatever was happening off violently but he was smiling almost ruefully.
“What was that about?” Draco asked narrowing his eyes in confusion.
Edge chuckled wetly as he held his hands carefully over the gaping wound. “They have restarted their bond.” Edge shook his head. “The bite is already healing some. Maybe I can cut down on some of the scarring for you.” He stated determinedly focusing intently on the task in front of him.
Draco didn’t ask who he was referring to; he didn’t need to. He sighed as warmth coated his damaged muscles feeling as though it was starting from the inside and going out. A hand moved to hover over the front of his shoulder prompting Draco to watch as the bleeding and oozing slowed to a stop and the muscles appeared to slowly stitch themselves back together. There was no light, no indication that Edge was doing anything at all except for a steady flow of warmth and tingles like fingers were soothing over the wound.
The feeling last just under a minute, before it faded, leaving his shoulder feeling cold after the warmth left but not nearly as painful. It would still need to be covered as the wound was still open but it already looked like a week worth of healing had occurred.
Draco reached behind him to pull Edge back around to his front. The vampire moved sluggishly and didn’t fight as Draco settled him between his legs with his head resting on his right thigh. Edge sighed, looking pale and tired. He breathed heavily from the magical exertion and his blue eyes were covered by pale lids framed by dark shadows.
“You did too much.” Draco softly chastised.
He summoned a goblet filled with blood and urged Edge to drink it refilling it once more. As much as he hated Edge over exerting himself, Draco knew fussing and yelling at the vampire would only shut him down and he would over exert himself anyway without accepting the help afterward. It was better if he just kept quiet and attended to Edge’s needs when he was finished.
Edge was unconscious shortly afterwards despite the sun not having started to rise over the horizon yet. Madam Pomfrey came in and tutted at him, but made no comment as she reapplied the bandages and gave him his potions, before leaving again.
Draco watched the sun rise over the lake before the charmed curtains closed just before the light reached Edge’s form. Only then did he lie back against soft pillows, close his eyes with his fingers gently running through soft strands attached to the vampire sleeping deeply against his thigh, and allowed sleep to take him.
Outside the room, much to Madam Pomfrey’s annoyance, rested a shaggy black dog. It looked peaceful, curled up, head resting on its paws as it watched the comings and goings of professors and students, and yet no one dared go near it or bother it, except the nurse who simply stared it down before being allowed entry. If anyone wondered why it was there, instead of with its perceived owner, no one asked. It was clearly doing a job and would do it with every bit of determination and stubbornness it had.
