Severus made sure the door to the parlor he chose to talk to Harry in was shut and locked then he warded it so no one could use an eavesdropping spell on it or overhear anything. While he knew Lupin and Black wouldn't bother, it was to make sure Harry felt secure when they talked.
After finishing, he came over and sat down. One look at Harry told him the young wizard wasn't in any better shape today than he had been the day before. Which meant he had to see what he could do to even get hints of what might help.As always, he started out the same way they had since they jumped into this mess and said, “First, I want it out there Black asked me to talk to you. His thought was the two of us have known each other longer and have a better relationship. He's concerned about what he's seeing from you, as am I and Lupin. It's the reason I decided to see what I could find out so we can help. And, as always, it stays between us unless you give me permission to tell someone. I would like permission for parts, other than personal ones, so we can find a way to help alleviate what you're dealing with.”“That's fine,” Harry told him, curling up, wishing he could hold Elliot. While he still didn't understand why Elliot gave him such comfort, he did and it helped. “What do you want to know?” He finally asked, figuring it wasn't anything huge.“Black said the issue is nightmares,” Severus started, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees, looking at Harry. “I was wondering if you wanted to talk them out. If you do, we might be able to figure out the why behind them then put them to rest slightly, or at least dissipate them to the point they aren't bothering you as much.”With a shake of his head, Harry answered, “It's nothing I want to talk about. Let's say it's personal and leave it there.” Though he trusted Severus with just about anything, he wouldn't talk about this. The nightmares were about Vernon. While everyone knew what happened, he wasn't about to give more details than they already knew. What the nightmares brought up were some of the most humiliating and degrading bits he could remember and he sure as hell didn't want it out there. No, these were topics he wanted to keep to himself, forever if he could at all manage.Severus assumed this would be the reaction and was as prepared as he could be. With a nod, he said, honestly, “I assumed. Let me just say that if you talk about it, you might feel better. However, if you don't wish to, keep in mind I'm here to listen, to anything you have to say, and it won't go any further.”“Appreciated,” Harry told him with a nod, though he didn't plan to take him up on the offer. Then Severus pressed on. “I made up a couple sleep aid potions for you. Rest assured, they aren't addictive. Use them, Harry. They can help you get a handle on what you're dealing with. We all know we don't handle issues well if we're not getting enough sleep. It just makes whatever is going on all the worse. I'll pass them to Black before I go today. You have my word that I made damned certain they are ones that aren't addictive and won't cause issues.”“Those I'll take,” Harry agreed, pleased he might get a decent night's sleep for a change. As Severus said; it could only help.Knowing not to press too much in that area, just pleased Harry had agreed to take the potions, he skipped to the next topic, knowing it was just as tetchy as the one of the nightmares. “There is something I want to discuss with you. Black said he thinks you're worried Albus might put his fingers in the mess dealing with your odious relatives. You've not come out and said it, but he said he thought that might be a problem.”Harry looked down and thought over how to word what he wanted to say. Sirius was right; he was. While he knew it was irrational, it was there. After all, Dumbledore had pulled so many damned stunts like this, he wouldn't put it past him to do it again. And he was not buying the excuse of those wards for it either. There was more to it, had to be. While he knew the wards were gone, he was sure, given the chance, Dumbledore would try to get him back there again or somewhere else for whatever reason. After thinking it over, he sighed and admitted, “I'm worried about it. No one needs to tell me it's not realistic, but its there, what with everything he's pulled over the years. It comes down to he's up to something and I doubt it has to do with those wards, though I'm sure they factor in.”“And you'll get no disagreement from me on your assessment,” Severus told him with a nod. “I'm sure Lucius, Lupin and Black all feel the same way on the topic. He's up to something, we just don't know what yet. Give me time and I'll get it out of him.”Then he pressed on to the big topic. “Harry, rest assured, Albus can do nothing. While he thinks he has plenty of influence, the fact is, in this matter, it's out of his hands. Your Solicitor went about matters in such a way so Albus can't do anything anymore. Madam Bones is who is supposed to tend to such matters and be the person such allegations are presented to. It's exactly what he did. In doing so, Albus can't do anything to wiggle the situation in the way he wants. In the past, he might have managed if he was still on the panel. If he could get the votes anyway. In cases of abuse, it's very hard to lobby for those votes as most won't. Now? He can't.”“I don't think you realize how low of an ebb his influence is at this juncture. He has next to none. Fudge taking after him and what you've done in matters has made it to where no one is likely to listen to anything he has to say, let alone in a matter like this. If he looked like he was trying to mitigate whatever when it comes to the Dursleys, he would be in a world of trouble. It might not be legal, but I'm sure many would give him a right reaming then it would end up leaked to the paper making his precarious position worse than it already is. Trust me, there is nothing he can do. He might try behind the scenes with those in the Order to get you moving how he wants, but he can't do anything legally.”With a sigh, he then added, “You've not had experience with our judicial system when it comes to abuse charges. While we might be lax on some areas because of Magic, on others they are far more rigid than the Muggle system. As you found out, they have ways of proving allegations Muggles don't. The memories are one. So, unlike Muggles, this isn't a case of just your word against theirs. You have proof in the form of those memories and your testimony from before. It's all they need. And they won't be as nice as the Muggles in sentencing. There is no chance they will end up exonerated, Harry. You can be confident of it.”“Realistically, I know,” Harry sighed, shaking his head. “It's just—so much has happened it makes it hard to believe until it's over.” While this was the major part of the problem, it wasn't something he would talk out, though. No, he would keep most of it to himself.“Completely understandable,” Severus agreed with a nod. “You've dealt with too much to just believe. We all understand where you're coming from. Which is why Lupin and I took it upon ourselves to contact your Solicitor and have him write up not only his assessment of what's coming, but a list of what happens in the trials along with all you'll have to do. Knowing what's coming can only help alleviate apprehension.”While Harry trusted Severus, probably more than just about anyone else, the idea the man had contacted his Solicitor made him frown. He didn't like the idea someone would do it about whatever without him knowing. “Why would you? I don't want anyone talking to him about me,” he said, frowning more and feeling himself bristle slightly.“Not about your case,” Severus assured him, keeping a soothing tone. “We would never do so without your permission. Though all of us have some knowledge of what happens in such trials, we wanted a rundown from someone who knows for sure. Rather than go through the Ministry to find out, thus chance people we don't want knowing about such matters getting wind of what we're looking into, we thought your Solicitor could give just what we need, in detail. He's also been at the Ministry for many bits and can better tell us which way he thinks the wind is blowing. None of us wanted to chance asking some we do know who are in a position to find out. It's nothing more than those areas, you have my word.” Then he waited, not sure how Harry would take what was said. He was quite prickly in some areas. Couple that trait in with all he was dealing with and he could easily blow up.After taking in what Severus said and thinking it over, Harry understood the why behind it then nodded. “Understood. Yeah, I would like some idea of what I'm facing,” he admitted, slumping slightly at the thought of going to court yet again.“So do we, honestly,” Severus agreed with an internal relieved sigh. Good. Harry hadn't taken it badly. “None of us want to go in and end up blindsided. We know you won't have to do much, but we want to know just what is coming, for all of us.”“True,” Harry admitted with a sigh. As stressful as this was, he didn't want any surprises.“There is something else, well, two more areas, I want to talk to you about,” Severus said, looking at him. When Harry motioned for him to go on, he launched in. “One of the areas Black brought up to me was something he heard in one of the classes he had to attend as an Auror. It's about the victim sitting in on the trial. He thought it might be a good idea for you to sit and listen.”“No,” Harry said firmly, shaking his head. “I don't want to be in the same room with them any more than I have to. And I sure don't want to hear anything said or view those memories. No chance, Severus.”“Hear me out before you decide,” Severus told him, holding up his hand. Already, at the mere mention of the idea, Harry had grown paler and seemed like he was pulling away. While he thought this was a damned good idea, he wasn't going to push it too far if this reaction kept going.“First, you won't have to see or hear those memories, period. The court will ensure no one but those dealing with the case from the legal end hear them. The other hearing was the exception. Because you were a minor at the time, anyone other than the legal end won't even hear your name. Again, it's the law to protect minors.” He explained softly, keeping as gentle of a tone as he could manage. “You will just listen to the rest, nothing more.”“Harry, I think it would do you a world of good to hear what is said. I'm not exactly sure how Muggles handle such trials, but our kind is not at all nice about dealing with perpetrators of acts like this. They will let them have it when it's obvious there is an overabundance of proof.” Severus told him. Then he waited. After thinking it over, Harry let out a sigh. It was obvious Severus thought it was a good idea. From what he said, Sirius did as well. So, he would think it over. He just couldn't give an answer today. “Let me think about it and talk it over with Sirius. Once we get the bit from my Solicitor, I'll decide. Good by you?”“Acceptable,” Severus nodded, pleased it wasn't an outright no. “We can discuss it all you like as well. The more we know when it comes to everything involved, the better we should be able to make a decision on the matter. Just, please, seriously think it over.”“I will,” Harry told him with a soft sigh, gut already curdling over pondering going to court again.“There is one other bit I want to ask you about,” Severus said, taking in the look on Harry's face. He could easily see Harry was probably at the end of where he should push as he didn't want to cause more problems than were already there.“What's that?” Harry asked, hoping it wasn't too much more as he wanted off the topics, frankly.Severus then steeled himself and said, “This is something I want you to seriously consider doing. After people are convicted, the victims are allowed to give a statement to the court about the impact of the crime on them and what it did. I think you should write one up.” Seeing Harry about to say something, he held up his hand and said, “Let me finish.”When Harry nodded, he pressed on. “I'm not saying you have to stand up in court and read it, though I think it would probably do you a world of good to do so, just write it. Say everything you've always wanted to the both of them. In detail. Have Black help you. When the time comes, if you want to read it, you can. If you don't, I would gladly do it for you. Keep in mind, this will be a closed courtroom because you were a minor at the time. Your statement won't be in danger of leaking out to the press. So, it can be read and they will have to listen for the first time in your life. And those on the panel will. They will take into account what you say, Harry. It will be the one thing you can do for yourself. Telling them how you feel about all that happened will help get it off your chest.”“I don't have to read it to the court?” Harry asked, wondering if this would help, a little anyway. He just didn't want to stand up and read anything.“No,” Severus told him with a firm shake of his head. “I will be more than willing to read it for you if you allow it. You don't have to. I think they need to hear from you, Harry. It lets the pervert and his shrew of a wife know you weren't cowed by them and are moving on to a better life while they pay for what they did.” Then he waited.“I think—this I can do, though not sure about anyone reading it,” Harry told him softly. “I'll start writing it with Sirius' help.” Oh, there was plenty he wanted to say to the two and hadn't thought about writing it down, so he would try. Well, as long as it didn't cause more problems than he already had. Now, this pleased Severus. If Harry would write it down, he was damned sure he could be persuaded to allow him to read it in court. And he was certain it would help, more than Harry ever knew. Good!Changing topics again so Harry didn't stress out more, he told him, “Tomorrow, I think it's a good idea for us to get out of the house for a time. So, I thought of a pickup game of Quidditch with all of us then going out to lunch afterwards. As you're more familiar with Muggle eating establishments, I wanted you to think of somewhere we could go that we would all enjoy.” His thought was tonight would be stressful enough that coupled with everything else going on, something enjoyable would do Harry a world of good. This would accomplish it. They could take plenty of time to just eat and enjoy before coming back. For the first time since starting the talk, Harry smiled. Then he nodded and told Severus, “I'll pick something good for all of us. There are several places I think we would enjoy that aren't packed with kids and have great food.”“The not packed to the rafters with children is a must, Harry,” Severus told him with an eyebrow up though he was smirking in an amused way. “Good food is another. And nowhere that will have Black running amok to enjoy whatever. I can't use spells to put a leash on him if you pick somewhere with the odd amusements.”Harry actually laughed at what was said and told him, “I promise; nothing with the arcades in them. There are several great places I can think of we'd all like. Maybe something Indian. They have the best food.”“They do and I'm sure we'd all enjoy it,” Severus told him, leaning back. Good. He had thought of the going out before coming over this morning as a spur of the moment bit, but he was pleased now he had. It would give something good for Harry to focus on and take his mind off what was coming.
“Bloody wonderful,” Sirius groused after reading the letter Molly sent over after Harry passed it to him. She detailed what they were going to do for the meeting and it sure as hell didn't please him, though he understood why. It was better to know the trio was here rather than relax and think they weren't then them pull something strange, popping up with no warning. With those three, it was entirely possible.
“I don't want to deal with those three,” Harry told them with a shake of his head.“You don't have to,” Remus told him before the other two could utter a word. “We'll make that crystal clear.” Then he smiled and added, “However, I bet you would like to spend time flying with Fred and George. You could have a great deal of fun with the two of them.”“Yeah, I would,” Harry admitted with a grin. He would miss the twins when they went back to school, so he wanted to spend time with them before they left. This would be a good way to do so and keep him from getting drawn into whatever from those wanting to try anything with him.“That's the way we'll handle this,” Sirius said, pushing the letter back into the middle of the table. “Harry will stay outside with Fred and George. He can have Kreacher keep watch and send him for whatever they want. If anyone asks, we tell them right where he is and to leave him alone as they're having fun. This way everyone sees him and knows he's around, but won't bother them. It'll hold off suspicion.”“Yes, perfect,” Severus nodded. “When it comes to the three other miscreants, we make it clear they're to leave him alone. They can find something else to do during the time the meeting is going on. The only room we would be concerned with is your bedroom, Black. As we've made damned sure no one, no matter what they do, can get in there, I don't see it as an issue.”“I say we just make sure they stay confined to one of the parlors we have cleaned,” Sirius snorted, slipping an arm around Harry and pulling him close. “They can't get into too much trouble in there. And I can have one of the elves keep watch. If there's a problem, they can pass the message along to Kreacher then have him go to Harry. If it's big enough, Harry can have him come get us.”“Perfect way to handle the whole situation,” Remus nodded, pleased. “We'll go with this plan and hope no spanners are tossed in.” Looking at Harry, he asked, “Is it fine with you?”“Good with me,” Harry told him with a smile, leaning against Sirius.“Just have fun and let us tend to the rest,” Sirius told him with a smile. However, knowing the three involved, he doubted it would end up that easy. They were bound to try something. So, he lifted his chin then looked at Remus and said, “Write them a note saying if those three so much as start, it's me they deal with. And nice is done. Snape can help, but I'm having at them. I want that out there as clear as I can get it.”“I'll tend to it,” Remus assured him, already sending for a parchment and quill. Oh yes, they wanted it out there before they came over so there could be no quibbling they weren't warned.“Just—you enjoy yourself, Harry,” Severus told him. “If there is a problem, send Kreacher and we'll handle it.” And he planned it would go just that way if there were issues.“I will,” Harry told him with a smile, already looking forward to having fun with Fred and George even if he knew the three would try something.
Hermione looked around the small parlor they were confined to, downhearted. They all hoped, despite what they were told, to talk to Harry. No, they didn't want to press on with some areas, but wanted to apologize to him for so much. Then talk more to him and hope he understood they were sorry for so much and would let them help with all he was dealing with. From all she knew, he needed people to support him because of everything that was happening. They could be those people. Well, if he would allow it.
As she lowered her head and shook it, she realized it didn't appear Harry wanted to allow them to help, or even be close like they were in the past. Well, she couldn't blame him, honestly. The last time they talked to Harry they tried to convince him to trust Professor Dumbledore. It was a bad move on their part as they didn't know what all went on. Then, before that instance, there was the no contact because Professor Dumbledore wanted them to leave Harry alone to protect him. So, he had a reason to be angry with them, more than one. From the past, she knew that sometimes Harry just needed time to get over whatever he was upset about. Maybe it was the case with this situation as well. They had given him space since the last time, so his temper had probably cooled off. Maybe, if they tried, they could at least apologize. She was then pulled out of her thoughts by Ginny saying her name. Looking at her friend, she waited to see what she had to say.“I think we should try to talk to Harry,” Ginny said, looking between Ron and Hermione. “If we don't now, we're not going to get another chance before we go back to school. As Professor Lupin and Sirius are sorting through the mail, nothing we write will get through. Even if he just yells at us, we'll have an idea where we stand.”“We were told not to,” Ron said, looking between the two. Then he added, “I agree, though. At least we can say we're sorry and try to fix the mess from there.”“Yes, I say we try,” Hermione agreed with a nod. “The worst that can happen is him blowing up again. We just have to stay cautious so no one else gets involved. As we've managed such missions in school, I think we can here as well.” Then, motioning them closer, they began to plan out what she thought they should do.
Sirius was busy listening to Albus when he was startled by Kreacher popping in. When the elf began whispering in his ear, his complexion went mottled and his temper shot through the roof. Yeah, they couldn't leave it alone!
After telling Kreacher to go back out and stay with Harry, he stood, seeing Snape and Remus do the same. He assumed they knew what was going on. Teeth still grinding, he snarled, cutting off Albus, “Molly and Arthur, I need you to come with me.” And that's where he left it then stormed out towards the backyard, fuming and grinding his teeth.Arthur didn't need told what this might be about as he knew and flushed from anger. While he hoped the children would have listened, he had suspected they wouldn't. Now he had to deal with plenty.“Is something wrong?” Albus asked, looking around at concerned faces after the door swung shut.“I have a feeling three certain teenagers didn't listen to a word we had to say and are now going to get a chewing out the likes of which they've never had before,” Bill sighed, standing to go with his parents.“Let us know,” Albus then sighed, shaking his head wearily. No, this wouldn't help matters at all when it came to the situation with Harry. Now they had to wait to see what would come of it.
When he stepped out into the backyard, Sirius was greeted by a wall of noise from shouting. Most of it was coming from Harry, though Fred and George added their voices to the cacophony. While Ginny, Ron and Hermione weren't shouting, their voices were raised. And he didn't have to guess what was said by the three to set Harry off because his rant was about them not understanding he wanted nothing to do with them and sure as hell didn't want to hear apologies nor did he want to talk about what was going on as it wasn't their business. While he understood what Harry meant, he was going to take it a step further.
As he listened to Snape's idea on how to handle the situation, he waited for Molly and Arthur to show up. Once they did, he stepped forward to handle the debacle after telling them he wouldn't be nice about it. When he heard them say it was fine, he had at it.“And that's enough!” He shouted, stepping in front of Harry, wand leveled at the three. When he saw them go pale then heard them try to explain, he snarled, “Shut it! Now! I don't want to hear it.”He then took a step forward, pleased when they backed up, and he snapped, “I've had it! You were told by everyone and their bleeding aunt to leave the situation alone and not bother Harry, yet you persist.”“We just wanted to apologize. He's our friend and we wanted him to know we're sorry for so much,” Ginny told him timidly, eyes wide as she'd never seen Sirius this angry before. “That was all, Sirius.”“I don't give a damn!” Sirius shouted. “Friends don't pressure other friends into something they don't want to do. They don't force them to listen when they don't want to and respect what they say. None of you have done that with Harry. You keep badgering him into listening to you, trying to cajole him into seeing whatever your way and demanding he talk! If you were his friends you would respect what he had to say and left him alone like he wants. No! You keep right on, despite what you've been told by everyone on the subject!”“You aren't his friends, no matter what you call yourselves. You're little better than stalkers at this point, looking for any excuse to undo your choices. All you can see is he doesn't want anything to do with you and feel you have to change it rather than accept your own actions have ruined what was there. He warned you long ago to knock it off with so much and that he didn't trust you. He even went so far as to tell you there was only one chance left. What did you do? The right thing by him or persist? You made the choice to keep right on going. And now you have the gall to not accept it and badger Harry into giving you another chance.”“Guess what?” Sirius shouted, glaring at them, liking they were white and the two girls had tears in their eyes. “You've blown it, completely. If your stunts earlier in the summer didn't end it, what you've done since then has! Any chance you had at fixing what went on is completely gone with your inability to listen to the person you call your friend.”“Harry is a person who has the right to choose who he has as friends and doesn't have to be one with people he doesn't want to. You're proving why he doesn't want you around! All three of you have! You aren't acting like friends, more like someone who thinks the person they call their friend's opinion in anything doesn't matter, just so you can be around them. You're spoiled enough that you seem to think his opinion doesn't matter or it should change to suit your whims. Wrong! He's allowed to not want you around, despite what you feel. And it's probably the best move he's made as you don't seem to think what he says counts or what he feels matters. If it doesn't in areas this important, it never will.”“I've had it,” Sirius then growled, glaring at the three. “I'm done. I know what real friends are like as I had them in school. You—he's better off without you three and you should be completely ashamed of yourselves. He is allowed not to talk to you about anything and he doesn't have to explain what's going on. If you truly cared about him as a friend, you would understand he has his reasons and not force the issue or demand he tell you. You would say something like if he needs to talk, you would listen or you're there for him. Not demand anything. Not demand he see whatever your way. Not demand he give you another chance. Just be there for him. No, instead you're demanding he talk.”“You were told one more time and you would deal with me,” Sirius pressed on, glowering at the three. “Snape had at you and I would have thought that would have been enough. Apparently not. So, you have me. And I'm fed up. You will leave him alone even if we have to go to the Ministry to get an injunction to do so. I'm going to suggest Harry ask his Solicitor to start on one as I doubt even what I have to say is sinking in. And if I catch you around him one more time, I'm using spells I learned in Auror training to back you off and shut you up. It's managed to get to this point, unfortunately. In these matters, your age doesn't matter, but your actions do. Your actions tell all of us you have no regard for not only the person you call your friend, but no respect for adults and what they tell you. The only thing I see you're upset about is you were caught and are now paying for it.”“I'm done,” Sirius reiterated. “Completely. You're out of this house for good. I don't care. Once you leave, I'm keying the wards so you can't get back in. Ever. You will never be welcome in my house or around Harry ever again. I don't care what emergency meeting happens or what Albus might need you for, it will be done elsewhere because you're banished from the house.”After another look at the three, Sirius then asked Snape, “Anything you have to say? Or anything you think I should have added?”Arms folded over his chest, Severus glowered at the three, the kind of look that reduced his students to quivering masses and sneered, “Just that you three have only yourselves to blame. We've all tried to pound it into your thick skulls to leave the situation alone and not poke. You had no respect for the person you call your friend and continued because you wanted your way. It's time to grow up and accept responsibility for your own actions. Sometimes they can't be undone. You're now learning that particular truth.”Sirius then shot the three one more scathing look then turned to Molly, Arthur and Bill, who looked plenty angry themselves, and said, “Get them out of here. I don't care if Fred and George stay, as they were having fun with Harry, but these three are gone, forever.” Then he waited.Molly was redder in the face than anyone had ever seen her, just irate. “I'm taking them home, Sirius. And they won't be coming back, ever. You have my word.”“Oh, I know they won't as the wards will reject them.” Sirius told her, glaring at the three. Then he nodded to her.“We're leaving,” Molly told the three, tone icy. As she shoved them through the door, she turned around and looked at Harry then said, “I'm sorry. We should have come up with something better. They won't bother you again.”“Accepted,” Harry said softly with a nod, glaring at the three that kept looking over their shoulders at him. When they finally vanished, he shook his head. “Gits,” he finally muttered, keeping a leash on his tongue and not saying what he wanted to.“I apologize as well, Harry,” Arthur told him. “It won't happen again.”“Thanks,” Harry said, though he was sure it wouldn’t be the last time he would have to deal with the three.Sirius then shooed everyone in the house but Harry, Fred and George. When the door shut, he smiled at his godson and ruffled his hair. “Just have some fun, or as much as you can after that mess. Nothing more to worry about. We should be done shortly I think. Until then, enjoy yourself.”“We'll try,” Harry told him with a strained smile. He would, too. Fred and George were fun to muck around with and they would help him forget this mess. At least he hoped.
After giving Harry a one armed hug, Sirius went back into the house, still seething.“Right, let's smack some balls around,” Fred said giving Harry a nudge.“We'll have fun,” George nodded, gripping his broom. However, as he did, he planned to get with his brother about some revenge on the three. They earned it after all.“Alright,” Harry said with a tiny grin. Then, mounting his broom, he kicked off, planning to have some fun for a bit.
