~~~ PARISH WARDS ~~~
Everyone had a lie-in on Saturday 29th. Various house-elves served breakfast in bed, so Harry and Draco gave another impromptu literacy lesson before getting up. It was Hermione and Ronald who, by apparating in, managed to get the household moving. They wished to stay and were given the double room. On being reminded of the ward plans for Sunday night they asked to remain until Tuesday because they were already packed for the train. In the end it was a lazy day. Hermione joined Minerva and Blaise, reciting poetry and walking round the garden and woods. Ronald, Harry, Draco and others messed around on their broomsticks; below them the three muggles played football against three mages. The elfin contingent, once chores were done, spent much time in and around the pool with Winky and Kreacher keeping an eye on their expanding family. On Harry’s orders, lunch was a bread and spread meal, causing the least amount of workload on their house-elves.
Minerva, who had been given a medallion and had used the cabinets, sat at the lunch table with Harry and Draco. “I take it that you two intend spending your weekends here as much as possible.”
“We had hoped to return if and when that were possible.” Draco said tentatively, looking at Harry for confirmation.
Harry nodded affirmatively, having just bitten into a large lump of bread.
“Mmm; I thought so. You have to be on school duty certain weekends, so I have put you on the rota together. It works out about once every five weeks, allowing for your Wizengamot meetings etc. You’ll have your first one in three weeks’ time. Here’s the rota. The staff quite often swap weekends, if you do just let me know, please.
“Of course, Headmistress.” Draco gave a half mocking bow. Seeing it was not well received, he added hurriedly: “I understand completely. Organisations have to run smoothly, and good communications are the oil.”
Minerva smiled thinly and Draco realised he would have to work harder to get into the headmistress’s good books.
John called round mid-afternoon, mainly to tell Harry about his part in the harvest blessing ceremonies. The Vicar was apprised of the developments and plans for a total ward system for the parish. He said he had four guest beds if the participants wanted to crash out after setting the wards; then he got involved with the four literary people. Isabel telephoned to see if he intended coming home for dinner, and received an invite to the meal at Chantry Cottage instead, which she accepted.
~~~ DINNER ~~~
John had warned his wife about not being surprised at the different races of people that were staying at the cottage.
“I thought he meant Afro-Caribbean, Chinese or something,” she said to Harry quietly, after the elves had been introduced. “These little people are something quite new.”
“We have goblin friends too,” Harry replied, “Bigger than the elves but not as tall as us. They’re our bankers, miners and workers in metals plus precious gems. There are other sentient beings as well, but I doubt you will meet them here.”
“John said you were a mage, I just thought he meant someone very learned. Now I see you inhabit a special world as well. Thank you for asking me, a husband and wife should have as few secrets from each other as possible. I know he cannot tell me the things he hears in confession, but at least this is something we can share now. I’m very glad you invited me.”
Isabel joined the literary group which by now included Kreacher. Winky and Hyacinth were concentrating on needlework and all the others were splashing in the pool. Neville and Hannah arrived, accepting the offer of accommodation at the vicarage; Michael and Anthony were next, closely followed by Lavender, all three muttering about inefficient accountants; so Harry persuaded them to adopt Gallus as his personal banker. Justin overheard the conversation and agreed to deposit his quarterly disbursement from the F-F Trust into the bank. Gallus then agreed to create a vault for him as well.
Blaise and Hermione took the four eager learners for a short literacy lesson. Harry told Minerva of the suspected reasons for elves not applying, and she promised to talk to the suitably aged house-elves at Hogwarts, offering literacy lessons. Twilight came and, as a reward for good behaviour, the learners were introduced to exploding snap, John and Isabel watched for a time and then were be-medalled and persuaded to join in. After the youngest ones had gone to bed, Draco and Ronald gave a demonstration game of wizard chess, amazing the five muggles with the destruction that took place. When Isabel and John wished them goodnight, Dean and Seamus had already wandered off into the garden hand in hand and were quietly missing; most of the others then drifted off to their beds.
~~~ BEDROOM ~~~
As they got undressed Harry remarked: “I think that Lucy trying to declare you dead is still worrying you.”
“Hmm … I s’pose it is, a bit.”
“There’s some of that oil left from a couple of nights ago.” Harry searched the toiletries shelf.
“Okay, I’ll do it to you first.”
“No you won’t, you need the distraction.”
“Bloody hell, Potter, give in for once.”
“Stop being a prat, Malfoy.”
They both dived for the half empty bottle on the shelf. Draco got there first, but Harry grabbed his wrist. They tussled for a minute or two; the top came off spilling the oil onto the floor. Draco was first to be caught off balance, sliding underneath Harry. Who, still holding his lover’s wrist, was pulled down also. Most of the remaining oil was spilled and the two writhing bodies spread more of it onto their skins. A competition started, seeing who could hold the other one down, and apply more of the oil. First Harry was on top, but he couldn’t keep his balance on the slippery floor with Draco wriggling beneath him.
Draco was unable to keep his dominance for long for the same reason. The bodily friction and pent up desire soon had them hard and panting for fruition. Each wanted his partner to be the first to ejaculate, so the friendly wrestling match soon turned into one of trying to grab and pulsate his partner’s erection. Both of them found the contest highly arousing and the bathroom resounded with their shouting and squirming together.
Fruition came almost simultaneously. As they lay panting on the slippery bathroom floor they became aware of an audience.
“We thought you were being attacked,” said Dean with an obvious bulge in his night attire.
“So we came ter defend you.” Seamus’s prick was sticking straight out through his pyjama’s parted flies.
“Ooh Masters! Do you do that often?” enquired and equally aroused Phealey, side hugging Pullet who was playing with his hard-on.
“Um … Um …” Harry blushed.
“I see you all enjoyed the floor-show.” Draco rapidly regained his aplomb. “Anyone want to join us?”
“Thanks, but we’ve just finished our session, maybe tomorrow?” Dean leered as his own excitement slackened.
“You’d probably crush us, Masters, but it has given us some ideas,” answered Pullet. We’ll clean the oil up whilst you have your shower.”
Dean and Seamus turned to leave, but Draco caught their arms.
“Look Guys, thanks. Sorry if I was snarky. I’m not used to people showing that they care for my safety.”
“No-probs, Draco,” Dean answered seriously. Then he grinned: “As recompense you can personally demonstrate the Pink Toad’s machine to us when we get to school.”
“Why do you want to try it out?”
“No, I want to see you all worked up and horny, again.”
Dean gave Draco’s dong a quick squeeze and with a grinning Seamus they exited, arms around each other. Draco hustled Harry into the shower, using large quantities of shampoo to remove the oil from their bodies. Responding to external squeals of delight, the magicians peeked through the shower curtain. Pullet and Phealey were in the final throws of sexual delight, covered in oil. Quite obviously they had followed in their masters’ footsteps.
~~~ SUNDAY 30th ~~~
Harry woke to the sound of apparating cracks and had difficulty un-entwining Draco’s hugging limbs, the process woke Draco up so they shared a friendly shower together. They dressed briskly, but without undue haste; going down to greet their friends. Most of the usual DA were there plus one or two Order members.
“We had heard of the special service so we all came to support you,” said Ernie, by way of explanation.
There was a further shock awaiting them when they opened the door, prior to walking to church.
“Hello Draco.” Gregory Goyle greeted them. “Thanks for saving my life Ron, can we join you, please?”
“Hi Draco, I never liked the death eater cast of Slytherin, as you well know. Now you’re firmly on the side of light I’d like to be with you both.” Tracy Davies held out her hand.
“I had heard you were against Voldemort.” Harry shook Tracy’s hand; sampling her benign emissions at the same time: “Are there other Slytherins of the same mind?”
“One or two, many changed sides after he was defeated, I’m not sure how far to trust them, though. I really came because you were involved in green magic and that’s a side I’m very much interested in.”
“Tracy and I were always at the top of the Herbology class, Harry.” Neville supported, clapping Tracy on the back: “We’ve been in touch regularly and she’s helping Hannah and me in Gran’s greenhouses.”
Harry and Draco looked at each other nodding.
“If you want to join us, we’re going to church and then for the blessing of the harvest. Perhaps we can thereby heal our differences.” Harry looked pointedly at Gregory.
“I’ve never been to church, Harry," Gregory replied: "It’ll be a new experience. Your team saving me gave me much pause for thought and Dad’s behaviour scares me beyond fright. Draco’s Dad hasn’t learnt either. I was caught by them and they did some unspeakable things, if you know what I mean. One of their jailers was lax and I managed to escape to Tracy’s. I ain’t too bright, but I can fight, but not on my own.”
Gregory was near to tears; Lavender walked over and hugged him. This seemed to defuse the tension that had built up and a fresh peal of bells reminded them of their destination.
As they were crowding in through the door, Richard took Harry aside. “Will your group be coming for lunch, Harry? If so it will be later, after the crop blessing.”
“We thought we would, thanks for delaying it. There are about twenty of us, I think.”
“No problem. We’ve got the parish marquee up on the Bowling Green. It’s another of those spicy vegetable pies; well … A number of them actually.”
The church was crowded. Samantha tactfully suggested that the Chantry Cottage people might be happier in the unoccupied balcony at the back, so they all trooped up the narrow spiral staircase, almost filling the available seats. There was a high balustrade at the front with pierced decorations. As soon as the first hymn started, there were a few unobtrusive pops as the elfin party arrived. The balustrade allowed the unglamoured little people to attend, hidden behind it, peering out through the piercings.
John’s sermon was based on the parable of the Good Samaritan. The emphasis was on accepting help from people different to the normal everyday folks. The magicians in the balcony got the message loud and clear. Harry caught Samantha, Richard and a few of the farmers looking at them as John drew to the climax of his oration. The service had been shortened and as the final procession formed up, John signalled for Harry and Draco to join him. They put on the robes they had brought with them and descended the stairs.
~~~ PARISH WALK ~~~
Surrounding the village was a wandering footpath, occasionally it was part of a road, most of the time it threaded through the fields, hedgerows and dry-stone walls. It took two and a half hours for a full circumambulation, including the stops for bible readings and prayers. John made the final blessing from the lych-gate and the congregation, as one, moved over the square into the marquee at the Farmers Arms. There were barrels set up for guests to help themselves, so the joyful hullabaloo lasted until teatime. It took time to serve everyone; not that anyone seemed to care as they mingled together. Tracy and Gregory were nonplussed by the mixing of mages and muggles, following Harry and Draco around until they became used to the idea.
During the melee Carter came over to Harry. “Richard’s given me this pie and told me to share it with the little people. What shall I do?”
“I hope you thanked him?”
“Of course I did, Master Draco.” Carter looked shocked.
“So? Take it back home and share it.”
Draco and Harry shielded Kreacher from prying eyes whilst he transformed and popped home.
About half-past five a merry band of mages made it back to Chantry Cottage. Draco assembled them on the upper patio and, once their attention was gained, Harry explained what they intended, saying that he thought a large scale attack might be forthcoming, but avoiding the reason.
A couple of members said it would be difficult to stay because of work commitments the following morning. Tracy and Gregory immediately volunteered to take their places. Blaise was next, explaining the logistics and who would cover which sector. Draco explained that they were going to erect a magical, but muggle invisible, high spire on the church tower, so that there was an upper anchor point for the wards. Hermione took over, going through the various charms needed, and the order in which they were to be implanted. She also explained that a tholus was the proper word for the dome-like structure they were going to erect.
Draco and Harry took Tracy and Gregory on to the practice ground, showing them the various charms, and allowing them to practice by erecting mini-domes. One or two others came as well just to ensure they were still proficient, Blaise and Hermione supervised them.
~~~ WARD MAKING ~~~
Dinner was late but over by the time it was dark. Mounted on hastily summoned broomsticks the DA carefully moved out to their positions waiting for the church clock to strike eleven which would be the sign to commence. Draco and Harry began the magical spire erection half an hour before that, so that when the first members arrived there, the anchor point would be ready. Blaise hovered above the spire organising and keeping order ensuring that there was a regular progression of mages flying in and out. By half-past three on Monday morning the tholus was complete, only leaving the special apparating wards to be connected, thus to enable Toppers Wallow to be available for medallion holders only. Kreacher served a reviving punch as each mage came in to land on completion, Neville and Hannah took Lavender and Ernie back to the vicarage. A few members apparated home but most stayed, flopping down on spare mattresses in the bedrooms, or using settees in the living room.
Draco and Harry were totally worn out when they finished connecting the apparating wards, so they showered quickly and snuggled sleepily.
~~~ MONDAY 31st ~~~
They all rose late in the morning. The DA was in a playful mood; the practice ground had a game of hex tennis, above that flew those playing Quidditch with a charmed tennis ball, and the pool was full of splashing bodies.
Gregory found Harry at brunch-time. “Would it be possible to stay here for a few days, please? Tracy was very good offering me a bed, but her parents were beginning to regard me as a possible suitor, if you know what I mean.”
“I have no objections, Gregory. What does Draco say?”
“He asked me to ask you and he said he would abide by your decision.”
“Minerva leaves after dinner, so the room with two beds could be yours.”
“Thank you very much. I’ll tell Tracy she’s rid of me. I think she was getting worried in case I was going to be married off to her. She’s got her eye on Wayne Hopkins and I'm almost sure it’s mutual.”
Draco and Harry had a quiet conversation and then included Gregory.
“Are you going back to school Greg?” Draco asked.
“No point, I only scraped through my OWL’s with luck. It was only my father who insisted that I return when the Carrows were there. I wasn’t making much headway before that either. I’m more into practical things, anyway. Why do you ask?”
“Harry has an idea.”
Gregory looked enquiringly at the Gryff.
“Um … Now we have this tholus in place we need a mage to be inside it and maintain it during the days when we’re not here; a sort of caretaker, but not like Filch. You said practical a moment ago, well it’d be that kind of thing. You helped make the wards so you could maintain them as well. If you accept then you can stay here and be looked after by Kreacher’s team. There’d be a small salary attached, say twenty galleons a month on top of your keep.”
“That’d keep me from having to crawl back to my father’s angriness, or to Pater Davis’s matrimonial machinations; so yes please. What about the upkeep charms?”
“Herms will show you afterwards. I’ve had a chat with her; they’re not too difficult. You’d be working alongside the trio of muggles who will be refurbishing Woodyates. They may come across hidden curses which need sorting out. We’ll be back most weekends if you need help with them.”
“Seems fair to me, I would have had a difficult time finding a job at the moment. It’ll be quite a challenge working with muggles, but they seem to be okay guys.”
“Yes they are, and very inquisitive about our magical world. They know the basics, but you could fill the details in better than I could.”
###
After the meal Ronald banged on the table: “Fellow Dumbledorians,” he started: “We have recently been working alongside four mages from the only house not represented in our society. Two of them have been very cruelly treated by their fathers because they did not want to follow dark ways. Another has been working alongside Neville and Hannah in their joint vegetable pursuits, and so I am informed, managed to pass on secrets to him whilst the Carrows were in charge; eventually Tracey also had to come into hiding when the Carrows found her out and tried to forcibly convert her to Voldie’s evil cause. As for Blaise, you know he’s been working closely with in inner group, so that should be enough to warrant membership of our company.”
“Hmm … Tracey being like that explains a few things,” whispered Draco to Harry.
“Harry?” Justin asked. “How do we make new members?”
“I suppose they have to sign the enrolment parchment,” Harry answered.
“Yes but do you authorise it, or do we vote on it?” Justin looked genuinely puzzled.
“At the start we asked for volunteers, Harry,” Hermione explained. “And then they all signed up. That makes them volunteering of their own choice, the parchment and its attendant curse is what binds us together.”
“I reckon that makes it democratic,” said Ernie. “So we should vote to accept new members. To that end I should like to propose Draco, I’ve seen him supporting Harry and working alongside us for good.”
“I second that.” This was Neville: “He was really good at the green man ritual.”
“Hey! What if I don’t want to join?” Draco was smiling.
“No problem, Mate,” Ronald said: “You just don’t sign the parchment. But you will, won’t you … Please?”
“Support from a Weasley? How can I possibly refuse?”
“Harry, you’d better act as chairman,” Hermione ordered.
“Yes ma’am.” Harry mock bowed to her. “Okay Guys. Draco’s been proposed, anyone against? … No? … Right! … Go to Madam Secretary and sign-up; you’re the first Slytherin member. I think Neville proposed Blaise and Hannah seconded … All in favour? Good you can sign up too Blaise. Tracy, welcome and thanks for your spy work in Hogwarts … Um … proposed by?” A forest of hands shot up and Hermione chose two at random as Tracey’s proposer and seconder.
“Um … I think Gregory falls into a different category;” Harry told them.
“He is being entrusted with looking after this establishment whilst its owner is absent,” added Ronald: “Some of us have heard about the tortures he underwent. Some so disgusting that they are not repeatable in present company. It would be practical for him to have unhindered access through the wards, so as to look after what many of us regard as a second home. So what say you?”
Ronald had obviously primed many people because there was instant support for his proposition. Gregory looked stunned as he signed the parchment; Blaise was overcome and sobbed quietly. It took a few minutes for Draco’s open mouth to close before he appended his signature.
“There’s an omission that ought to be remedied,” Neville spoke up: “Percy the Pranker, he’s not a member, but he worked very hard on Saturday.”
Percy was passed nem-con.
~~~ TEATIME ~~~
Whilst Harry and Draco were sipping tea, Coleman called in.
“Harry … Err … I hope you don’t mind … Err …”
“Don’t mind what, Cole?”
“I think we’d like to base ourselves at Woodyates, once it becomes legally ours. There’s a lot to do, and more room for storing stuff. We’d continue to look in here when you’re away of course, but with Greg’s magic and Kreacher’s army of helpers the need isn’t as acute, is it?”
“No, I suppose not. Does that mean you won’t be using your room?” Harry looked enquiringly.
“Yes! We will have a room together at the farm, so it will become vacant. What were you all doing in the middle of the night?”
“You remember me and Ron putting up wards round Woodyates?”
“Yes, Herms.”
“Well, we’ve done the same for the whole village. One or two have been slightly altered so that they only exclude nasty strangers who have our talents, but allow muggles in. We will include those mages we trust by giving them a medallion; like the ones you all wear and you used when we went to Diagon Alley.”
“That was fun, I enjoyed it greatly. So the whole village is guarded.”
“Yes, and most of the out-field farm buildings too, including Woodyates.”
“Thanks for taking the news so well, Harry. I was a bit worried about telling you. I felt I was letting you down.”
“Not really, you’ll still be around. We’ll be back most weekends so we’ll see you at church and afterwards for lunch at Richard’s pub etc. You met Greg, didn’t you?”
“Yes.”
“He’s not going back to Hogwarts, and he’s at a bit of a loose end because of family troubles. So he’ll be staying here. He’s a bit of a rough diamond, could you see if he can help with the Woodyates repairs. Encourage him to use his practical magic wherever possible. He’s about the same strength as Seamus or Dean, and you’ve seen what they can do.”
“We’ve already been chatting, Harry and he’s coming over tomorrow to have a look whilst you lot ride on the train. I’ll see what I can do.”
Tracey looked relieved when told that Gregory would be staying on, but asked if she could come over at the weekend.
“I’ve got Wayne interested, and Gregory’s been cramping my style. The parents were beginning to think I’d changed my mind about him. Are you sure you don’t mind Greg staying here? Maybe you’ll get him to talk in detail about what happened, he trusts you, Draco. I get the feeling it was something sexual. Whenever Wayne and I were smooching, he used to get really uptight. See you on Sunday.”
“Kreacher’s asked us ter alter the entrance ter the elfin quarters. It will make the double bunk room inter a single; Dean found two spare leprechaun sets of bathroom fittings at the Fortress, so your elfin army could have more suitable ablution facilities,” Seamus explained.
“Kreacher tells us that you keep on adding more house-elves here too.” Dean supported his partner.
“Okay, Minerva uses the double bunk room usually so making it into a single won’t affect her. Will you disturb Gregory?”
“A little, but he’s happy for it ter go ahead. We can put a small window in the room as well; it will overlook the practice area from underneath the entrance portico. The room will then be quite presentable and you will have better than decent elfin quarters too.”
Hermione was hovering, listening in. “Harry, what a good idea; that nest that Kreacher had at Grimmauld Place was horrible.”
“Yes … Well … Our attitudes have changed, haven’t they? I know mine have.”
~~~ ENQUIRIES ~~~
Dinner in the ‘L’ shaped room, at a small table bedecked with roses, was served by thrilled house-elves asking questions and contradicting each other about Hogwarts facts and traditions. Two amused mages sorted the truth from the rumour, but failed to quench the excited expectation of what tomorrow would bring. Exploding snap was the choice of their would-be students, so the partners showed them the rudiments and watched benignly as organised chaos took place.
Being in a mellow mood, they climbed the stairs and went straight into the bubble; the sky was clear and the stars were twinkling. Being in the country there was little light pollution. Nearly two hours were spent identifying constellations and planets. Harry was grateful for the lens effect that Dean had built into the glasswork. Draco said that he felt as though he was floating miles above earth when Harry mentioned this. Two hours’ concentration and closeness had their hormones raging again, so a salacious shower was mooted, followed by languorous lovemaking in bed.
In their post coital snuggle, they discussed Gregory staying and the reasons why.
“I don’t think he’s got any money,” mused Draco.
“Well we can afford to house and feed him while he recovers from whatever torture he was given,” Harry suggested.
“I tried to draw him out, but he mumbled and blushed; most un-Gregory like. He was always reticent about things sexual, maybe that’s it. Vincent was the one who lead them in tortures – mainly on me, too.”
“Possibly our free and easy atmosphere might encourage him to come out of his shell.”
“What Gregory?” Draco chuckled. “You have to be very obvious with him; subtleties are lost on him entirely. If Filch retired, Gregory would make a good replacement for him.” Draco giggled some more. “Thanks Lover, you’ve put me in a really good mood.”
Harry received a big kiss and Draco snuggled down, with them spooning together.
