The Grindelwald Legacy
Chapter 44
From his place at the high table, Severus noticed the scowl etched on Lucy’s face. Clearly she was unhappy with Draco’s presence and was not complying with his demand that she allow the boy some leeway. He also noticed the way she leant more towards Blaize and Severus did not like it. He decided to wait a few days, if she still seemed to be rejecting Malfoy’s offers of friendship he would call her to his office and speak to her.
Lucy headed back to Slytherin to collect her bag, and was once again confronted by Draco. By now she was getting fed up and close to losing her temper, but she bit her tongue and shoved passed him, afraid of what she might wish, even worse, what would happen if she did will something to happen to him.
Transfiguration was a nightmare. As far as Lucy was concerned, Professor Macgonagall had one mood, strict, and one expression, sour milk. The woman was like something out of Dickens, Lucy thought, and insisted Lucy use her wand over and over before allowing her to eventually use her mind to try and transfigure something. The giggling first years she took class with weren’t helping and Lucy felt like marching from the classroom. Macgonagall also told her to write two foot of parchment on the correct wand movements when transfiguring a stool into a vase, and a sheet of parchment into a glass, as well as giving the correct incantations, sketches pf the wand movements, and reasons why the spells might prove useful.
The minute the bell went Lucy was off. She headed straight for the common room and ran upstairs to her dorm room. After ranting and raging to herself for ten minutes, she calmed down enough to pull out her laptop, put on some music, and start on her homework, deciding to get transfiguration out of the way first since she did not particularly like it. Surprisingly it did not take as long as she thought, though she doubted her reasons for using the spells would not be likely to satisfy Macgonagall, and set her essay to print while she changed the music cd and set about her charms homework.
Charms, although shorter, took longer to do since she had to keep cross referencing everything in her charms textbook. Annoyed, she wished the stupid book would recreate itself on the computer, then nearly fell off the bed when the contents of the book began to upload itself. Grinning wickedly, Lucy proceeded to use her flash drives to store the information from every textbook she possessed. The charms essay was easier after that and she wondered if she would be able to do the same with some of the books in the library. It would take forever if she had to keep borrowing them and bringing them back here, so she would need to look at the library in more detail, see if there were any little out of the way niches she could hide in.
Lucy was just locking her bedside locker when Pansy and Millicent entered the room, followed not long after by Daphne and Tracy.
“Hi.” Lucy offered when the first two walked in. Millicent nodded in her direction, while Pansy peered sideways at her but otherwise made no sign she even heard Lucy speak. “Please yourself.” Lucy said, standing and removing her uniform. She quickly changed into her normal clothing and was about to leave the room when Millicent called her back.
“If you’re planning on going into supper later, I would not go dressed like that.”
Lucy looked down at her jeans and tee shirt. “Why not, what’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”
“Nothing, but students have to stay in uniform during the week, it’s only weekends we’re allowed to wear normal clothes. You’ll lose points for us if you go down like that.”
“Thanks erm, Millicent is it?.” Lucy told the girl, though she knew Millicent only told her to save Slytherin from loosing points.
The girl nodded again, then turned to discuss something with Pansy.
Lucy changed back into her uniform, then headed down to the common room, suddenly remembering the magazine she hid in the sofa on Sunday evening.
There weren’t many students about and the ones that were sat at tables doing homework.
“Don’t worry about those two, they’ve been thick as thieves since first year.”
Lucy looked up startled from her magazine. “What? Oh, you mean Millicent and the other one?”
“Pansy, yeah. What are you reading?“ Tracy asked, she and Daphne taking up the rest of the sofa beside Lucy.
“MORE, they’ve got some great new gear in, want to have a look?”
Neither Daphne or Tracy had ever read a muggle magazine before, and Daphne was taken with the fashions, while Tracy was fascinated with the problem page.
“I can’t believe that girl wants to know about contraception when she’s only sixteen. It’s illegal to have sex until your of age.”
“Not when you’re a muggle it’s not. Sixteen is legal, though you aren’t classed as an adult until you’re eighteen.”
“My parents would kill me if I did it and they found out.” Daphne said glumly. “I nearly did it with Stephen Cornfoot before we finished for the summer, but I got cold feet so we didn’t get passed groping. It was hard though, I really wanted to, and now he won‘t speak to me, he said I‘m a tease.”
“You’ll know when you’re ready, don’t let anyone push you into it.” Lucy told her. “They come up with all kinds of excuses to get you to let them have sex, don’t listen to them.”
“Have you... you know. Pansy does it, I heard her talking to Millie once, raving about how good it was.” Tracy said.
“Just because she says she has, doesn’t necessarily mean she has. Anyway, she’s not you, don’t go giving yourself to some boy just because Pansy did.”
“So have you… done it?” Daphne asked, taking up where Tracy left off.
“None of your business.”
The two girls grinned. “You have, you would have said no otherwise. “Who was it, anyone we might know?”
“Never you mind who, what I do and what you do are different.”
“Why?” They both asked.
“What am I, an agony aunt or something? Just… do what you want, but don’t complain if your parents go ballistic or it’s not what you thought it was. And for heavens sake, if you do… do it, make sure you’re protected. Use a bloody condom, blokes carry all kinds of diseases these days. Now please, can we change the subject, I feel like I‘m having a senior moment here.”
The three girls carried on looking through the magazine, but every so often Lucy could tell they were itching to get back on the subject of sex. She was glad when the common room started filling up and it was time for supper.
This time she had two female friends to enter the Great hall with, though Blaize still made sure to sit at her side.
Draco watched from further down the table, doing his best to ignore Pansy as she chatted incessantly about the Halloween ball that was sure to be held next month.
Tuesday went reasonably well. Lucy spent the morning with Hagrid one to one. He introduced her to nifflers and she was fascinated with the way the burrowed under the soil to find the Galleons Hagrid hid earlier that morning. Between them they splinted the broken leg of a young, but rather wild wood-nymph he found in the forest that morning while out collecting firewood. Lucy had never enjoyed a lesson so much. Her afternoon was spent with Professor Binns, and though she was fascinated in the history of magic, she found his style of lecturing sent her into an almost catatonic state, plus she was unnerved by the Professor himself. Ghosts were not her thing and she hated when he floated through the blackboard between third and fifth year classes. It was only the fact he was a ghost that kept her from nodding off during the class. Binns set her to do a three foot parchment on the rise and fall of Grindelwald, feeling she should find it easy because of her connection to the family.
Lucy though was distressed at her assignment and thought it completely unfair that she had to write about her own fathers wrongdoings, and the Headmasters part in bringing about his demise.
She was even more shocked however to discover, after spending two nights in the library discovering more and more facts about her family, that she could find nothing about his actual death. Every book she studied spoke of his downfall, but none actually said he was killed. Lucy did not want him dead, but if what she was discovering was true, then why wasn’t she told?
