Sirius inhaled deeply and rolled over to look at the dark
haired man lying beside him. Severus’
eyes were closed, his cheeks were flushed, and he was panting heavily. Sirius had to admit that Severus was kind of
handsome in his own way.
Sirius leaned over to place light kisses on Severus’ well
defined, heaving chest. The body that
the Potions Master had been hiding under all that cloth was very
attractive. His pale skin was marked
with a handful of scars, but Sirius thought that only added character.
“That was… rather enjoyable,” Severus said when he got his
breath back.
“Only enjoyable?” Sirius raised an eyebrow. “If those are the sounds you make when you’re
only enjoying yourself I’d hate to hear you in ecstasy. I think I’d go deaf.”
Severus blushed and averted his gaze. “You know what I mean.”
Sirius grinned evilly and grabbed one of Severus’ nipples
and twisted, making him hiss and whimper.
“I’m going to have to go home and inform everyone that you’re a
screamer.”
“No, don’t,” Severus protested. “As childish as it sounds, I want this kept
between us.”
Sirius nodded in understanding. “All right, I won’t tell, but I’m still very
surprised. Who would have ever thought that
the stoic Potions Master was a squealer in the sack?”
Severus rolled his eyes.
“What you don’t know about me could fill Hogwarts.”
Sirius sat up in the four poster bed and leaned against the
headboard. “So start filling me in.”
Severus shook his head.
“No, I couldn’t. I’ve only ever
opened myself up to one person, and it seemed she didn’t keep my
confidence. That, and she hurt me.”
“It would’ve helped if you hadn’t called her a Mudblood,”
Sirius pointed out.
Severus frowned. “You’re right. I made a horrible mistake. I was angry, and humiliated… I regretted it as soon as it came out of my
mouth.”
Severus looked like he was about to cry, so Sirius took his
hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “You
need to quit beating yourself up over that.
It happened a long time ago, and I’m sure she forgives you.”
Severus smiled softly.
“Thank you. I can honestly say
I’m glad we buried the hatchet.”
“Me too,” Sirius agreed.
“You were an odd boy, but you’re not such a bad bloke.”
“Are you staying for dinner?”
Sirius shook his head.
“No, I’ve spent so much time over here that I’m missed at home.”
Severus sighed and rolled out of bed to put his clothes back
on. Sirius did the same and left through
the bedroom fireplace.
Severus headed back down stairs. He was feeling many emotions at once, and he
didn’t know what to make of any of them.
He’d had sex before, but this time it felt different. Sirius didn’t use him and rush off like the
rest of them did.
He started cleaning up the dishes, and when he saw the tea
tray his eyes went wide. Two spoons lay
side by side. One of them he’d been
using to stir his fertility potion. The
other was clean and had never been used.
Severus whimpered and started pacing the room. How could he have been so careless? What if it worked? What if it took time to work? Was the dose he’d accidentally given himself
even enough?
Millions of questions raced through his mind as he paced
across the floor. His heart started to
race again and his palms became sweaty.
He thought about cleaning himself out, but just then the Dark Mark on
his arm burned. He would need to leave
right away. Judging by the pain coursing
through his arm the Dark Lord was not happy and being kept waiting would only
make him angrier.
Sirius found James and Harry in the drawing room. Harry was sitting cross-legged on the floor
while James snored on the couch. “Hello
Harry. What’s going on?”
Harry turned and smiled at his godfather. “Hello Sirius. I was just meditating. Dad was doing it with me, but he fell
asleep.”
Sirius chuckled. “He
seems to be doing that a lot lately, but I guess it’s to be expected. Where are Lucius and Draco?”
“Draco is in his room.
I don’t know where Lucius is.”
“All right then, go back to meditating. I’ll just move your father to his bed so his
snoring won’t disturb you.”
Sirius carefully levitated James to his bed, then headed to
the kitchen to read the paper until dinner was ready. He couldn’t concentrate though. The afternoon’s events kept playing over and
over again in his mind. It was supposed
to have been two adults getting their rocks off together, but Sirius couldn’t
help feeling that it had been much more than that.
Mitsy put dinner on the table and one by one everyone came
down. James was the last one down,
grumbling under his breath.
“Have a nice nap?” Lucius asked with a soft smile.
James scowled.
“Harry, why didn’t you wake me?
And how did I end up in bed?”
Harry sighed. “Sorry
Dad, I figured you needed your rest.
Sirius put you in bed.” Harry had
been excited about getting a baby brother or sister, but now he was watching
the calendar and praying for time to move a little faster. Walking on egg shells around his dad was
getting a little tiresome. One never
knew what kind of mood James would be in.
On the upside, Dumbledore was coming later that evening to take him and
Draco to spend a little time at the Burrow.
James took his seat beside Lucius without any further
complaint. “So Harry, have you picked
out your Animagus form yet?” Sirius asked to break
the silence.
Harry shook his head.
“No. Are you sure I’m not a stag
like my Patronus?”
“Since it didn’t work, yes, I’m pretty sure,” James said as
he piled mashed potatoes onto his plate.
“Well, nothing’s coming to me,” Harry sighed in frustration.
“Just be patient,” James assured him. Whatever bad mood he’d been in seemed to have
passed already, which wasn’t unusual.
“As they say, Rome wasn’t
built in a day.”
Harry had no idea what that meant so he turned his attention
to his plate. Since he hadn’t gone back
to the Dursleys’ he hadn’t lost weight like he usually did, so he wouldn’t have
to listen to Mrs. Weasley go on about how scrawny he was.
Dumbledore came shortly after they’d finished desert. He emerged from the fireplace with a stack of
books in one hand and a bandage around the other. “Evening all,” he smiled. “Are you boys ready to go?”
“Almost,” Harry said as he ran up to his room to grab his
trunk. Draco was right behind him.
Dumbledore set the books down in front of James. “James, I have a very important assignment
for you.”
James raised an eyebrow.
“You wouldn’t be trying to humor me would you?”
“No, actually I’m not,” Dumbledore answered and he handed
James a small plain envelope. “All of my
notes are in there. And since you’re
supposed to stay here, I brought a few books to you; though perhaps once you
learn a few things you’ll know where to look for better information.”
James took the envelope and examined the books. The boys came down dragging their trunks
behind them. Lucius shrank the trunks
for them and hugged Draco. “Don’t forget
to thank Molly and Arthur for inviting you too,” he instructed.
“I won’t,” Draco kissed his father’s cheek and moved to
stand beside Dumbledore.
“I think we’ll do this by Side-Along Apparation,” Dumbledore
said as he headed for the door. “I need
to run a quick errand that I’d like you two to help me with.”
Harry hugged his dad goodbye and followed Dumbledore out
along with Draco. “Have fun!” James
called out as they headed out the door.
“Well, I guess it’s just us three now,” Lucius commented as
he sat back in his chair. “Whatever
shall we do with ourselves?”
Sirius sat quietly staring into the fireplace. He wanted more than anything to talk about
what had happened earlier, but Severus had asked him not to. And with the school year coming up he
wouldn’t be able to see Severus very often.
It was going to be another lonely year.
After Dumbledore dropped Harry and Draco off at the
Weasleys’ he headed back home. He lived
in a modest cottage on the Isle of Wight. Very few people knew where it was, and he
only stayed there for brief periods during the summer.
One of the privileged few who knew of the place was Severus
Snape, and he was on the porch knocking on the door just as Dumbledore was
about to go to bed.
The elder wizard answered in his dressing gown and gave
Severus a soft smile. “Good
evening. And to what do I owe this late
night visit?”
Severus stepped inside.
“I just came from a Death Eater meeting, and I thought I should report
to you. Could I use your bathroom first
though?”
“Of course,” Dumbledore nodded and pointed to a small room
at the top of the stairs. Severus
hurried up and closed the door.
Dumbledore poured two cups of tea and waited patiently. Severus seemed to take an awfully long time. Finally he emerged, looking slightly more
comfortable and calmer than he had before.
“Are you all right?” Dumbledore asked.
“Fine,” Severus answered quickly. He sat down on the couch and took one of the
cups of tea. “Have you located Slughorn
yet?”
Dumbledore nodded.
“Oh yes, I took Harry and Draco with me to see him earlier this
evening. I must say Harry did an
excellent job convincing him to return to his old job.”
“Good,” Severus said quietly. “It’s good that you found him first. The Dark Lord is furious that no one has
found him and killed him yet.”
Dumbledore took a sip of his tea and then set the cup down,
gazing at Severus with his penetrating stare.
“My boy, all of this could have waited until morning. There is something else on your mind isn’t
there…involving Sirius perhaps?”
Severus’ jaw hit the floor.
“How did you-?”
Dumbledore chuckled.
“My boy, Sirius’ mind was practically screaming when I picked up the
boys. I know what his concerns are, but
yours must be urgent if you’re coming to me at this late hour.”
Severus nodded, but didn’t quite know where to begin. “So I suppose you know what happened, but
that isn’t the whole story. You see, I
was careless and accidentally gave myself a dose of that male fertility potion
I’ve been working on. I haven’t had any
negative side effects, but I fear I could be…”
“Pregnant?” Dumbledore finished the sentence.
Severus whimpered and gave a little nod.
Dumbledore gave him a reassuring smile. “There’s no sense in worrying until you know
for sure. I’ll get you an appointment
with Lyssandra as soon as possible for a pregnancy test. If it comes out positive, you’ll need to have
a little chat with Sirius.”
Severus swallowed hard.
“But what if he gets angry with me?”
“I wouldn’t worry,” Dumbledore answered. “Remember what you told James when he was
afraid Lucius would be upset?”
Severus nodded.
“Lucius was only upset that James hadn’t told him sooner.”
“Exactly,” Dumbledore smiled. “I learned a long time ago that planning your
life is a waste of time because things never go as planned. Now, you go home and relax. I will let you know when your appointment is.”
Severus stood and headed for the door. “Thank you,” he mumbled as he left. Even though he was still worried, he already
felt a little better about it. He still
couldn’t help staring down at his stomach every few minutes as he got ready for
bed and wondering.
