Edge takes Severus to the house and a month passes bringing us to Draco’s first full moon.

He had overslept and no one deemed it necessary to wake him. Draco and Padfoot both warned off anyone who wanted to try with snarls and a wand ready with a hex for anyone that persisted.
Edge was irritated but felt warmed by their care and concern. He did feel better for the extra sleep after all, even if it did put him behind in his plans for the night.
Severus ran with him step for step, neither behind him nor ahead of him. The other vampire would not follow blindly nor would he dare to lead. That suited Edge just fine.
The woods had changed drastically over the years. New saplings had sprung, older trees had fallen, and the vegetation was thicker than he remembered, but Edge could find his way just fine. He had grown up here and knew the smells and sounds like the back of his hand. He heard the small creek just before they found it, smelled the mighty firs that surrounded the property miles before they came across them, and could smell the fragrant roses that his mother had magically grown behind the house, spelled to never wither no matter the season.
Edge had to pause at the gate to gather himself. Severus waited patiently beside him without saying a word.
After a deep breath, Edge pushed open the gate, and walked the path that would lead them to the house. The wards had long since fallen, having not been renewed in many, many years, so they traveled unhindered. Dante had not replaced them while he was here stating that he would leave that to Edge knowing that he would know the best wards for his clan. One of the many reasons Edge had brought Severus along.
The house was a simple two story cottage that Dante had clearly modernized for him. The path led them up to an arch that connected to a small deck. Various flowers and shrubs had been planted recently.
Opening the door, Edge walked into the front room feeling overwhelmed by the memories the place brought.
The layout had been left alone. A doorway leading to a small cozy kitchen was to his left. A sitting area nestled comfortably around a fire place took up the right side of the room. In the middle was a staircase that led up to the landing where it branched off to each end of the cottage. There was one master bedroom on the ground floor that connected to its own bathroom. A spare bathroom was found next to the door that led to the cellar.
The staircase led them to four smaller bedrooms; two on each side connected by a bathroom apiece. A small door at the end on the right side opened up to another smaller staircase that led to the loft which could be used as storage, another bedroom, or office. Every room had been fully furnished except the cellar and the loft.
Edge stood at the set of grand windows across from the landing stairs, looking out over the small garden. Dante had left the garden be. The plants and flowers that had once grown here were overrun by every weed imaginable. The only thing left were the roses against the back gate. Even in the moonlight, they were beautiful, still giving life to a house that had long been abandoned, until now.
His chest ached, knowing Dante had this started before he knew he had a clan, only urging it to completion after learning the fact. It was to be the last thing Dante left him; an apology, for what it was worth, not realizing just how much it would mean.
It would indeed be the best place for a clan. The cottage was nestled back in the forest; miles away from the nearest village, but still close enough to provide them with supplies. There was plenty of land for the Guardians to run and stretch their legs before they met the gate that surrounded the property used to connect the wards to, and plenty of space in the cottage granting everyone their own room. Once cleaned up, the garden could be used for anything they wanted.
Edge looked at Severus from the corner of his eye as the dark haired man stepped up beside him before looking back out over the garden. “We’ll move here, once the war is over.”
“He figured that would be the case.” Severus replied softly.
“There are multiple things I want your help with tonight.” Edge turned to look at the ex-Potions professor. “Before that, I want to ask you to be my second.”
“Your second?”
Edge nodded. “If I’m not available, for whatever reason, you would be in charge. Even though by vampire standards you are younger than Harry, you are the strongest. If you agree, you would take over the clan should I perish.” Edge looked back out the window. “I do not ask this lightly and understand should you decline.”
“I’ll do it on one condition.” Severus said waiting for Edge to look at him in question. “Don’t go doing anything foolish. Harry and Draco need you. The clan needs you.”
Edge watched Severus a moment before he closed his eyes with a fond smile. “And you solidify my choice with one sentence.” He chuckled opening his eyes again to look at Severus again. “I promise. I plan on sticking around for a while yet.”
Severus nodded. “Good.” He stated simply.
Edge smiled before clapping his hands together. “First things first: wards. We need to protect the property from prying eyes not to mention preservation charms so nothing gets moldy while the place sits. The furniture is new and I’d like to protect it from scavengers and the like.” He shifted his weight onto one foot with a sigh. “Perhaps getting a house elf would be beneficial.”
Severus snorted. “Granger will love that.” Sarcasm dripped off his words making Edge raise an eyebrow. “Although, if you ask Harry, I’m sure he will have one that will be more than happy to help out; providing an allowance of mismatched socks, of course.”
Edge tilted his head. “I am going to need to hear that story in detail.”
“It is quite the cunning tale in my personal opinion and quite surprising for a Gryffindor such as Harry.”
Edge laughed suddenly feeling energetic despite the chores ahead of them.
It took the two of them most of the night to get done what Edge wanted to get done but the house was well protected now and would be there for them. Perhaps they could spend the coming moon there. It would be as good a time as any to introduce the place to everyone. Ron and Hermione could stay in the house while the rest of them explored the forest. Maybe becoming animagi would be beneficial for the two of them; that is, if they wanted to stay with everyone. Edge would make a point to ask the next time the group met up.
They returned to the castle, finding Harry in the Infirmary with Draco, with enough time for Edge to officially meet Dobby. The eccentric little house elf amused Edge to no end and his loyalty to Harry, despite being a free elf, was very enduring. Edge immediately understood the mismatched sock reference the minute the little elf appeared wearing hideously bright colored socks.
Dobby had been thrilled with the invitation to watch over and care for the cottage in their absence. He had pulled at his ears and cried tears of joy at being able to serve the great Harry Potter resulting in a blushing and spluttering Harry while Edge, Severus, and Draco laughed.
Edge made sure that Dobby knew the importance of also keeping Severus’s presence in the castle top secret. The elf had stood straight and nodded firmly obviously very proud to have received, and be trusted with, such an important task with equally important information attached.
Two days later, Draco received an official letter of disownment. He had stared at the letter unseeing for the longest time before crumpling it. Draco did not cry or act outwardly upset, but Edge could smell the hurt coming from the young man and it made his blood boil in anger for his mate.
Edge was still referring to Draco as his mate? That was a good sign, right? Edge tried not to hold onto the hope too hard.
Harry brought Draco his lessons to keep him caught up and the four students would group up to study. Edge allowed their training to be put on hold so they could focus on their exams coming up. Unfortunately, they would be occurring the week after the moon, leaving poor Draco even more stressed than the already was.
Edge still made Remus, Sirius, and Severus train. Severus had scoffed, of course, but Edge had wanted to see just how far Dante had got with him and had been suitably impressed. Not only did Severus have the mind skills, but he was wicked fast as well, easily giving the two wolves a run for their money. It burned Sirius something fierce but Edge figured it would be good motivation to keep getting better.
Edge was still quicker and physically stronger than the other man easily beating him when he wasn’t allowed the use of his mind tricks. It was also the only time that Sirius was able to get the upper hand. Cobalt had pranced in glee at beating the snarky man while Moony had rolled his eyes. Severus of course got his revenge later by tricking the dark wolf into believing he was coated in lice and fleas leaving the wolf scratching and chewing excessively until Edge had called them down.
Sirius still sported red and raw skin because he had done it to himself, so of course he couldn’t heal it as fast as normal, and Severus refused to supply any ointment. Stubborn bastards: both of them.
Severus got Harry to feeding regularly to the relief of everyone even though they all knew it would happen. They were just happy to see Harry flourishing again. The fox was constantly with Harry, except during lessons or study times, riding comfortably draped over his shoulders. Just as Edge had said, no one questioned anything.
The two had yet to finish their bond. One: to let Harry gain all his health and strength back, two: so Harry could concentrate on his Newts, and three: so Severus could concentrate on brewing the Wolfsbane for Draco. Once the moon and exams had passed there would be no guessing where the two will have disappeared to. Merlin help anyone that dared to disturb them.
Madam Pomfrey finally allowed Draco to leave the Infirmary during the second week only because Edge had managed to help heal Draco completely. The wound of course scarred but it did not look nearly as bad as it would have had Edge not intervened.
Draco had stated firmly that he was returning to the rooms he had shared with Edge previously, a decision that Edge was not going to argue with him about. The blonde started spending a little more time with Remus and Sirius, when time allowed between lessons and studying, learning all he could about what being a werewolf actually meant.
As Draco’s sense of smell started to increase the three wolves started making sure to scent each other to get familiar with each other before the moon. Remus was determined to accept Draco into his pack even though he would be part of the clan regardless. Being a part of both could only be beneficial in the long run.
Draco had even convinced Edge into hiding about the castle just so he could practice tracking him down as his sense of smell increased. It seemed that Draco had decided to embrace what was happening instead of fighting against it.
Edge had worried that his scent would turn Draco away but instead the blonde seemed to like it; he didn’t avoid or turn up his nose in disgust anyway. Draco’s scent; however, had started to turn musky. It was less honey and more bourbon though the undertone of cloves and cinnamon remained. It lured Edge in every time making his mouth water at every feeding. Draco responded eagerly each time, clinging to Edge as he drank. It was clear that Draco was indeed still going to be Edge’s mate. The question was if he would remain Draco’s as the wolf settled.
The third week came. Draco got moody. He was a menopausal witch on steroids.
One minute hot, the next cold, Draco could never settle. He was constantly moving and constantly agitated about something. The food didn’t taste right, a shirt itched against his skin, and the next one was too soft; yelling angrily one minute and breaking down in tears the next. Edge had looked to Remus for help, not remembering Sirius getting so bad, but the added stress of exams was clearly not helping the situation any. Remus and Sirius would help get Draco calmed but of course it only lasted for so long.
Ron and Hermione avoided the blonde except when studying and even then remained as quiet as possible. Anything above a whisper during those times had Draco growling irritably about being distracted.
It was Severus that suggested making Draco soak in the bath with calming oils each night to help him wind down and be able to sleep. It worked for the most part, giving everyone a much needed break. Edge was just glad that Draco had started accepting cuddles again.
Draco became miserable as the forth week arrived. Edge started reading assignments to him so he could still rest using cards that Hermione provided to help him study because of course the blonde was to stubborn to actually give himself a break. He slept fitfully, tossing and turning, keeping Edge awake to try to soothe him. Stress made it where he could barely keep food down resulting in Severus providing him with a drought for nausea with each dose of Wolfsbane.
The night before the full moon, they all moved to the cottage minus Ron and Hermione. Hermione insisted that they should be able to focus on Draco without having to worry about their safety. Edge admitted she had a point so allowed it.
Draco asked to shift with only Edge present so that was what they did. Remus and Sirius had already shifted into Moony and Cobalt and was resting calmly by the back gate though their eyes held worry and concern. Shadow rubbed against Draco as he and Edge passed him, growling in a purr like manner in an attempt to comfort Draco as the blonde anxiously scratched an ear. Severus, not yet shifted, sat on the stone wall surrounding the garden.
“The Wolfsbane will help. Deep breaths.”
Draco nodded continuing with Edge into the surrounding forest.
They walked slowly as night fell until the pains made it impossible for Draco to continue further. He fell to his knees crying out in pain and fear as the transformation started. Despite knowing that fighting it would only make it worse, he instinctually did, tensing against the changes.
Edge did his best to try to sooth the pain but had to give it up not being able to keep up with the many changes taking place. He tried talking, to let Draco know he was still there, but there was little else he could do until the transformation was complete. He decided then to have Severus bond with Draco regardless of what his mate status was just to save Draco from this pain. There was no reason Draco couldn’t have both bonds; Remus had a mate and Guardian bond and so did Sirius. No, Edge would not be watching this again and Draco would not be dealing with this again either.
The misshapen werewolf collapsed after one last painful howl, panting and whimpering. Edge transformed and approached cautiously until he knew how the wolf would react. The fur reflected the moonlight revealing not white but a silver gray. Eyes opened at Edge’s approach revealing gray flecked gold eyes.
*Draco?*
The wolf whined pushing itself up onto its hind legs. It stumbled before catching its balance. Edge watched carefully as it approached leaning down onto its front limbs to sniff at him. When the wolf did nothing but sniff at him, pushing hot air through his thick fur, Edge relaxed a little. It proved to be a mistake as the next second the wolf grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and tossed him.
Edge twisted to land on his feet staring startled as the wolf turned to stalk him. It wasn’t growling or acting hostile but was definitely eyeing him giving Edge an uneasy feeling.
*Draco.* Edge tried again relaxing some when the wolfs ears pricked forward.
It stood back up on its hind limbs. *Edge.* His voice sounded shaky and nervous.
*You’re okay, Draco. Give yourself time to adjust.* Edge replied softly to sooth the new werewolf.
It lowered itself back onto all fours and shook. Edge watched Draco move slowly and stiffly appearing unsure in this elongated form.
*Listen to your instincts. They will help you.* Edge urged.
Draco shook his head. *Don’t like my instincts right now.*
Edge tilted his head confused. *Why? What’s going on?*
Those bright eyes met his sending shivers down Edge’s spine. Did the wolf not like him? Was that why Draco had thrown him? Edge felt his heart plummet. His mate didn’t want him.
A snap had the wolf flipping its head toward the sound its ears lowering against its skull. Edge turned to find the others walking toward them through the trees Moony in front with Cobalt just behind him. Shadow and Severus’ fox followed.
Draco growled showing his teeth. Moony stepped forward standing tall, ears forward, and tail up; he was an alpha wolf and would not bow down. The new wolf would accept that or Moony would prove it to him.
Edge held his breath hoping that Remus’ plan of familiarizing their scents worked and Draco wouldn’t challenge the stronger wolf. He knew Moony wouldn’t hurt Draco more than necessary to prove his point but it was still an altercation that Edge wanted to avoid. Remus and Sirius may not be affected or controlled by the moons pull but the instincts were still there and forward.
Thankfully, Draco submitted, rolling over and exposing his belly. Edge sighed relieved, sitting as the wolves moved to acquaint with each other. One hurdle passed with limited issues. Severus jumped up onto a stump looking regal as he sat head tall and large tail curled and draped over his front feet. Shadow rubbed against the stump hissing slightly when Severus leaned down to nip an ear. The panther huffed making his way over to Edge and sitting beside him.
Both cats watched the canines lick, rub, and roll each other.
*You okay? You smell sad.* Shadow commented.
*His wolf doesn’t want me.* Edge mumbled quietly.
Shadow looked at him. *How do you know?*
Edge sighed hanging his head. *He threw me away.*
Shadow made a soft purr like sound shifting to rub against his Sire.
It happened fast.
There was a snarl before there was a blur of activity that not even Edge could keep up with. He jumped back as Draco barreled into Shadow the two tumbling across the ground. Shadow was too surprised to hiss let alone defend himself against the werewolf snapping jaws at him and screamed as those teeth made contact. Severus was off the stump dashing toward the panther the same moment Moony grabbed onto Draco shaking him from Shadow with his own snarl.
Draco jerked lose turning his attention toward Edge and charged at him only to be intercepted by Cobalt. Edge stared in horror as the two Guardians ganged up on Draco who just simply was not backing down. Their instincts were heightened on the full moon and they were just doing their jobs, protecting the vampires they were bound to, and Edge knew this but they had to stop. Something was wrong and he couldn’t handle this. Not his dragon. Please not his dragon.
*Severus! Stop them!* Edge yelled in desperation gaining the fox’s attention from the panther limping to his feet.
The fox twisted and growled. A chorus of yelps filled the forest as the wolves broke apart and separated. The only one not affected was Draco who staggered his way to Edge before collapsing at his feet with a whine. Only when Moony and Cobalt laid down in deference to Severus did the fox let up on them.
Draco panted but didn’t move even as he watched the two Guardians get back to their feet. He was bleeding steadily from a few places that would heal quick enough but it still made Edge’s gut twist. The two wolves hung their heads. Severus and Shadow moved closer to the group pausing when Draco growled. Edge rested a paw on his head to quiet him.
*What just happened?* Edge asked.
Draco seemed calm enough now plaint where he rested in front of Edge. The Wolfsbane was working clearly but what had set Draco off like that?
Severus grumbled the sound coming out like a growl. *Draco felt threatened and being so new wasn’t able to control his instincts.* The fox glared over at the other two wolves. *Apparently, neither are these two idiots.*
Cobalt growled at the insult going quiet again when Edge hissed. *The moon is full so their instincts are at the forefront. It may not control them but they can still get overwhelmed. The bond called them to protect so that was what they did.* Edge sighed very much feeling his century. *Draco had no reason to feel threatened.*
The fox transformed throwing a glare at Draco as he growled shutting him up quickly. “Harry is unmarked and to a werewolf he had every right to feel threatened.”
The snow leopard tilted his head trying to ignore the sudden racing of his heart. *What are you saying?*
Severus sent Edge a soft smile his expression softening. “The wolf chose you.”
Edge swallowed looking at Draco as he pushed up into the werewolf version of a sit. *I’m your mate?*
Draco nodded his elongated head. *I only threw you because I didn’t like the thoughts running through my head. They startled me.*
Edge felt like his heart would burst. Just how many rare things were going to happen to him? Edge didn’t care. His dragon had chosen him.
