Epilogue
Beta'd by the amazing Tenchi, who I couldn't work without anymore. Thanks, Tenchi!
With help from Lynn who works with me when it comes to flow, continuity and other issues.
After checking around, Harry clapped Dudley on the shoulder before settling into a chair across the table from him in the small outdoor cafe. As they were in a Muggle area, they had to keep watch, though it was a busy place and neither of them thought anyone would notice them. Never hurt to keep an eye out, though, at least until Sirius and Lucius joined them. The two were still tending to some bits at the Ministry, so they would be a while.
“You look good,” Harry told his cousin with a grin. And he did, too! Dudley was now an average weight for his height, in good shape and happy. So different from the cousin he had known for all those years.“So do you,” Dudley grinned back, ordering them both a soda from the waitress.“How is the job going?” Harry asked, relaxing and stretching his legs out in front of him. “We've heard you're doing great and got a promotion to section head.”“I did,” Dudley told him, grinning bigger. “Youngest department head in the Office of the Minister ever. And one of only a handful of Muggleborns to ever hold such a position. I love it!”“Great!” Harry said honestly. “Just so you're happy. That's all that matters. Well, that and Aunt Petunia is proud as hell of you.”“Yeah, well, you know mum,” Dudley said a bit sheepishly, flushing.“She has a right to be,” Harry told him bluntly, taking a sip of his soda after it was delivered, waiting for the server to leave before he pressed on as what he had to pass on was something he didn't want overheard. It was now ten years after the time they had vanished to the castle and so much had changed, both for all of those involved and their world.First, they were safe, as expected. The castle had, and still did in some cases, protect them from what was going on. It was a place he loved now and it would always be his home. He adored living there, seeming to discover some new secret it held each week. It was perfect as far as he could tell. The events they kicked off that summer a decade before changed plenty. Their world exploded and transformed over what was revealed by Skeeter in her articles. It took down not only Fudge but others that had a hand in it. From them being booted rose a government that was willing to make modifications that would sustain their world and keep their secrets in a world that was changing rapidly. The war with Tom never happened, of course. While Albus still tried after they left, it never came about. By the spring the following year, there were no more Death Eater sightings and those that had escaped Azkaban seemed to vanish off the face of the earth. Of course, that was Tom's doing. He was still there and active, but pressing for changes in a different way with no more need for shows of force or wanting a confrontation. Political maneuvers and doing it the right way was how he was tending to it. Each prophecy Harry gave, information that would guide their world into the new century and protect it, was something he followed and helped implement. It not only protected all of them, but improved their world and moved it forward. As the citizens were happy, they didn't question much and went with it. Good.Albus—well, Albus was still around, but it was different now. Though he was Headmaster of Hogwarts when the term started the year they left, he wasn’t by the end of it. The Board had fired him over winter break when they found out all the information in the papers was correct and there was even more that never made it in. How he had manipulated so much wasn't something they were going to tolerate, so he was out and Minerva was Headmistress. Which was good for the students.Since then, he had tried to keep up with the 'coming war', sure it was still looming, but he was failing and irrelevant. The war wasn't coming, of course, but even if it did, he didn't have hardly anyone backing him. What hit those papers basically gutted the Order except for a few minor members. Even Moody had walked off in disgust. None of them wanted to associate with an organization that would allow someone to pull such stunts with the purpose of sacrificing a child to the cause. So, he was left to plot and plan alone, with no way to implement anything as no one wanted to listen to him. Instead, he was left in his small home in Godric's Hollow to plan whatever and not be able to do a thing. That was fine with everyone. Most considered him barmy by then and suffering from a mental illness, so he was ignored or avoided. A fitting end for him if you asked Harry. For those that had been in the middle of the mess, it had changed drastically as well.Remus and Narcissa had married a year after they left in a Muggle ceremony. And they were happy. While most would see them as an odd couple, those that knew them didn't. Remus adored Narcissa in a way no one else in the world ever would. While he might be a werewolf, his ability to love her despite all he knew of her past was wonderful. And he accepted Draco for just who he was and loved him like his own son. They were happy, that's all that mattered to those that knew them. And they were now the proud parents of a son of their own, a little boy born two years ago. Though Draco groused, slightly, about no longer being an only child, he adored his little brother and was vicious about protecting him. Merlin help anyone that thought to tangle with Teddy!Severus taught for one more year then quit. With Albus gone and him not being needed as a spy anymore, he finally left a job he hated and opened his own Potions business. Despite his reputation, he did very well. After all, everyone knew that he was the best there was and were willing to overlook his 'flaws' to get the best out there. That wasn't the only change for him, though. Two years after he left Hogwarts, he had married Petunia. Most would see it as odd, of course what with their pasts, but they had changed. The two knew each other well and fit. Besides, Petunia wasn't one that would put up with his snark and sarcasm. She would give it right back and he would never win with her. Though the relationship was odd, it worked. All that mattered.Draco was now a Healer, and a damned good one. From what Harry knew, he adored his work and found it quite fulfilling. His relationship with Tom was still ongoing as well. In fact, Draco lived with Tom full time now. Though they couldn't get a marriage license, they were as good as wed as far as everyone that knew them were concerned. When he initially heard about the relationship, Harry had been dubious, about both sides. He wasn't anymore. They fit and were good for each other. It was all that mattered. He, Lucius and Sirius were still together, of course. Nothing could ever separate them and he didn't mind. He loved his two bondmates and they him. So, they built a wonderful life together. Unlike most they knew, the relationship between the three of them was still hidden because of what it was attached to; the Seer aspect. To the world, it was Sirius and Lucius in the relationship with him just living with his godfather and his husband. That was fine. He didn't care. Those that mattered knew the truth. It took a couple years for them to come out of hiding, making sure it was safe. After that, they resumed their lives. Only he and his bondmates still lived in the castle, with the others having found homes of their own. Though most of them still considered it home in some way. Once they were out of hiding, relationships, like with the Weasleys, resumed and they moved forward with their lives. That Harry liked. He was the only one of the younger ones that didn't have a job, well that most knew of anyway, but he didn't care. The Seer aspect made it to where he couldn't really hold one because he still didn't know when a prophecy would hit. Instead, he got to spend time doing all the things he loved and missed in the world. That was enough for him. And he was happy, all that really mattered. After waiting until he was sure that no one was paying attention, Dudley drew his wand under the table and cast the standard spells so they weren't noticed by Muggles or overheard. When he was sure it was properly in place, he relaxed. While they were far enough away from where their kind congregated, one never knew. Especially if someone recognized Harry. They didn't want to deal with such matters. Once he relaxed again, he asked, “You had something you wanted to get with me about?” As he worked in the Minister's office, Harry sometimes had messages to pass along to those that were there working for Tom. It wasn't odd and he didn't think anything was off.“I do,” Harry told him. After putting his soda down, he pulled a piece of parchment out of his pocket and slid it over to his cousin. “That's the prophecy I received last night. Tom has it, of course, and it's in the Hall of Prophecy, but we thought you should see it first.”Brow furrowed, Dudley opened the parchment, wondering how it could pertain to him. While he had a good position, he wasn't one to come to about getting laws introduced, at least not yet. He was hoping for such a place at some time in the future. As he read, his eyes widened slightly and he didn't know what to make of it. While it was the normal way they were worded, something almost gibberish to him, he understood the parts about 'the last of the Seer's relatives' and 'a Muggleborn finally breaking down the last barrier' then it mentioning 'their world will have its first Muggleborn Minister, bringing it into the modern age'.After reading it again, he trembled and sat it down, staring at Harry, not sure what to say. With a grin, Harry told him, “You read it right, Dudley. You'll be the first Muggleborn Minister of Magic in the UK. After all, you're the last of my relatives.”Not sure whether to panic or grin like an idiot, Dudley did know he wanted to show it to his mum! Oh, he liked the idea! And he would be a damned good one, he was sure of it.“You'll do fine, don't worry. I think you'll make a damned good Minister myself,” Harry told him with a wink. Then, with a chuckle, he said, “It's a copy, so you can give it to Aunt Petunia. We'll prepare for her gloating.”With a loud laugh, Dudley shook his head. “She's going to! You lot will never hear the end of it!” However, he just wanted to show her. After all, that was mum.“We'll manage,” Harry said with a smile then began asking what Dudley knew of some bits going on so he understood. Well, and could pass them along. After all, the more they knew, the better off they would all be.
