A/N: Ah, Sansa is good; Sansa is wise: Natalie’s mark is very much like a dark mark, but why isn’t it black? And why then doesn’t Daddy dearest just summon her if he wants her? Anyone want to take a guess? More gold stars for trying! And for Ccino - figures she’d focus in on the blood, but it was just a trigger; the straw that broke the camel’s back or in this case, Natalie’s. Just a hint: Natalie and Nolan have almost identical marks. Their siblings marks are completely identical to each other’s, but not Natalie or Nolan’s. Ccino is on the right track with the boys’ animagus forms. Daddy was not calling Natalie … this time. Keep the questions coming ladies. I love ‘em.
“Á
tes souhaits, Lucius.” Natalie murmured the nicety in French, her eyes locked on Nolan’s.
“Merci vraiment, Natalé
.” Lucius answered unconsciously. Nolan smiled knowingly.
“De rien.” Natalie merely nodded at her brother, acknowledging that they could not use French in front of the platinum blonde wizard.
“Are you two hungry?” She seamlessly switched back to English.
Snape pushed himself up on his elbows to glower at Lucius for giving them away just when the conversation was becoming intelligible.
“Starving.”
He growled, displeased with the other man; grouchy because he was awake; put out that he didn’t get to hear the remainder of their discussion.
“Coffee!”
Lucius spoke loudly. A tiny little house elf appeared with a carafe and four mugs. She set it down on the table nearest Natalie, and quickly fetched cream and sugar as well. Lucius and Snape joined the brother and sister at the table.
“You are feeling well this morning?” He asked Natalie cordially.
“Yes, thank you.” She answered politely, sipping from her mug.
Snape seemed to regain some humanity as he neared the bottom of his mug, polished off half the omelette the tiny elf brought him, and poured himself another mug.
“Why does your brother think your father will kill you?” Snape grounded out his question between clenched teeth. He was not accustomed to feeling fury or righteous indignation on another’s behalf. Natalie glared furiously at her brother, her lip curled in disgust. Nolan choked slightly on his coffee, forced to cough to clear his throat.
“No one is dying, not me and definitely not for me.” Natalie pushed herself up from the table, seized her wand to disapparate, leaving behind three confused men.
“Ohhh … hell.” Nolan grumbled.
“I would appreciate some answers.” Snape growled.
“So would I!” Nolan barked back, not intimidated at all by the wizard’s threatening demeanor. “For one, what the hell went on here last night to trigger Natalie’s change?”
Lucius perked up instantly. “Change? What would she change into?”
“Believe me when I say that you would rather not know.” Nolan huffed, shoving himself away from the table. “And, just who the hell are you anyway?” He demanded of Malfoy.
“Lucius Malfoy, and you?” To his credit, Malfoy maintained his cool aristocratic persona, extending his hand to the younger wizard.
“SHIT!” Nolan exclaimed standing up, manners forgotten in recognition of the name. “Does Natalie know your name?”
Lucius’ brows knit together in consternation. “Of course!” He turned to look at Snape, hoping for some answer, but getting a cold, black stare instead.
“You alone would be enough to send her over the edge.” Nolan shook his head. “What were you thinking?” He asked Snape as he sank back into his chair.
“I have no idea why Lucius would be a problem for your sister.” Snape countered with his low, smooth voice hiding any emotion.
“Don’t you ever talk? Or is it all just a good fuck for you?” Nolan’s face tinged red. Snape’s lip curled into a sneer.
“We discuss things of mutual interest. Mr. Malfoy’s name did not come up in our conversations.”
The aforementioned Mr. Malfoy just stared at the other two in confusion. Finally, he threw caution to the wind, and entered the conversation as well. “As I seem personally involved, I would like to know the details, especially since I had not met your sister before last evening.”
“Well, it is a bit of a long story.” Nolan paused while deciding where to start and how much information to share. “Natalie came to Europe with two purposes: one was to get away from our father for a while. The other was to find a mate who would be acceptable to our father.”
Both Europeans, more confused than ever, stared at the yank who now paced the floor in a quite agitated manner.
“That was our father’s goal for her trip anyway. He sent her list of families who were acceptable to him. Your name was on the list, Mr. Malfoy.”
Malfoy and Snape leaned back in their respective chairs to process this little tidbit of information. Then, Malfoy leapt to his feet. “Her back … the marking … it’s real!”
“Same as mine.” Nolan added caustically.
“You are a Monterichelieu?” Malfoy asked in amazement.
“We are.” Nolan answered bitterly.
“Great Merlin’s mother, the Monterichelieu have not been in Europe in …”
“Centuries.” Nolan finished Malfoy’s sentence.
“Why now?” Lucius pressed on.
“It seems there is a bit of a power vacuum lately. Father actually hoped to create new ties by marrying Natalie into a connected family.”
Snape’s eyes grew dark and suspicious. He somehow sensed that Natalie would not be pleased with her brother’s sharing of family secrets. Nolan continued on, oblivious.
“Only problem is that Natalie adamantly refuses to marry.”
“Why?” Interjected Snape.
“She has her reasons which she doesn’t share.” Nolan looked at Snape in curiosity.
“She is the only female Monterichelieu.” Malfoy came back to life. “When one becomes two …” Nolan cut him off to prevent him from sharing the rest of his statement.
“Yes, exactly.”
“I presume that your father insists on a hand fasting.” Malfoy glanced meaningfully at Snape when he spoke the words, hand fasting.
“Of course, he hopes to bind her magic.” Both Snape and Malfoy whipped their heads up to glare at the other man. Slowly, a look of understanding crossed Nolan’s face. “Oh crap, that’s why she only agreed to a civil ceremony. I’d better go find her.” Nolan made to leave. Snape held up a hand to stop him. “Allow me. I think I know where she might go.”
“If you think you can find her and not have her rip your head off, be my guest.” Nolan offered, mentally sighing in relief. Snape dressed quickly in the heavy silence, then, apparated away as well.
Once alone, Lucius poured Nolan more coffee. “Now, tell me if it is true …”
((((((()))))))))
Nolan shot Lucius a weighted glare. “Tell you if what is true?”
“Your father married a, ah, the word … it’s gaelic …” Lucius motioned helplessly with is hands while he searched for the word. “An avenger?”
“I believe you mean a ccoilleneyder, of the clein urley.” Nolan glowered, his gaze growing dark as he fingered the handle of his coffee mug. Suddenly, he lunged to his feet, slamming both hands down on the table. “I don’t believe I will discuss this further with someone I barely know. Thank you for your assistance last night.”
“Wait.” Lucius stood as well, but not confrontationally. “Is she the one who becomes two?”
Nolan nearly toppled the table as he shoved it aside. “That prophecy could just as easily apply to my twin brother and I.” His jaw tensed while his hands clenched into fists.
Lucius paled visibly at Nolan’s statement. “You are a twin?”
Nolan didn’t answer the wizard. He disapparated without prelude, leaving a disoriented man in his wake.

Snape apparated to the designated point outside of Hogwarts’ grounds. He managed to control himself enough to not run to the Astronomy Tower, his eyes searching for a glimpse of Natalie as he neared the castle. He scattered a small group of students just leaving the castle to enjoy the morning. Ascending the stairs rapidly, he nearly knocked Moody over as he too made for the Astronomy Tower.
“Pardon me, Professor Snape.” Mad-Eye crossed his arms and leaned against the stone balustrade.
“Excuse me as well, Professor Moody.” Snape eyed him suspiciously, remembering Natalie’s intense misgivings regarding the strange man.
“In a hurry this morning’ are ya?” The old auror had no intention of letting Snape sneak past him.
“No.” Snape curled his lip in distaste before turning to continue up the next set of stairs. He nearly tripped when the barest edge of Moody’s tongue flickered, quite snake-like, and unnervingly familiar, between his thin, pale lips. Snape narrowed his eyes at him, inspecting the other professor closely. Moody quickly turned away from the scrutiny and clomped on his way down to the Great Hall, muttering incoherently under his breath. Snape watched him go, the gears in his greasy mind grinding against his long-forgotten memories, trying to place that oddly familiar gesture.
Remembering his first mission, Snape proceeded as rapidly as possible to the Astronomy Tower. He shoved the door open, fully expecting to see Natalie standing there, but finding no one.
TBC - for Ccino and Sansa who will curse my rotten hide, or truss me up in a dog collar for their amusement if I don’t. Hahahahaha though, left you with a huge cliffy didn’t I?
OKAY - I don’t want to duel Sansa. Dodged that last curse … hahahahaha, no kids, no racing, and the sun came out just a little too late. Cackle, cackle, cackle. Mess with a witch eh? Chew on that bone for a while. Patience, patience my dears! Pitt
