Roark arrived at the Aquarian a short time later. Seeing the club's security detail keeping people back, Roark immediately locked on Kili and Tristyn and hurried to them. Kili was on his knees at Tristyn's side, hands blood-covered as he held an equally saturated pad, pressing it down over the wound as hard as he could in hopes of stopping the bleeding.
"Ah hell, Tris, what have you gone and done now?" he asked in a lightly teasing tone as he dropped to his knees beside him, but across from Kili.
"Oh, ya know, a little...of this, and...a little...of that."
Roark shook his head. "It looks like your little of this and little of that got you into quite a mess, my friend. Let me see, Ki," he said, turning his attention to Kili, brushing aside his hands to gently lift the pad covering the wound, not noticing Severus and Harry arriving at a run, trying not to let his dismay at what he saw show.
He must have failed because Tristyn gave a half-coughed chuckle. "That bad, huh?" came the breathless question.
"Well, it certainly couldn't be worse," he answered, turning his head as Harry dropped down beside him, their shoulders bumping as he reached out to take the fresh pad one of the security personnel handed to him. Meeting Kili's distressed dark brown eyes, he lay the thick cotton pad over the wound, a groan sounding.
"Press down hard, Ki. We have to get this bleeding stopped."
Kili, his face very pale as Severus dropped down beside him, hands already pulling his medical kit free, nodded. "I've been trying to do just that since I came out of the Aquarian to find him like this. It just won't stop. I've tried just about everything I can think of, but it won't stop."
"Calm now," Severus said, hearing the panic building in Kili's voice. "Let me see," Severus gently pushed aside Kili's hands now, lifting the pads to see what he might be dealing with, but as soon as the pressure was released fresh blood welled up. "FUCK!" he immediately replaced the pads, pressing down hard, earning him a deeper groan of pain. "I know, Tris, sorry, but we have to get this stopped enough for me to take a look at it. Do you know if you've ever had any kind of a reaction to magical potions?"
"No...worries, Severus. No, not that I know of. Glad...all are...here," he rasped as he looked at each of them, pain reflected in his eyes. "Can tell...you," he said, sounding winded the more he talked. "Rory, Harry..."
"Hush now, Tris. Just relax," Roark told him softly, Looking over at Kili. "Have you called for medical?"
Kili nodded. "As soon as I found him," he told them.
"In...for...mation you...wanted--"
"Tristyn, be still," Severus ordered him when he made to move.
"Tristyn," Roark said as his full attention turned back to him. "Don't try to talk right now. There will be plenty of time for--"
"NO. No time. You...know...listen...to me," he closed his eyes and the four of them knew he was trying to gather what strength he had left. "Hid...den," he said, opening his eyes to look first at Kili and Severus, then to Harry and Roark. "Told Lo...gan. Disks. Two diff...erent. Our leak...Ro...dolph...us, brother. Much more...then first...thought."
None of them saw Severus tense at that, his midnight eyes widening just a bit. "What do you mean, Tris?"
"Don't...trust..." he tensed suddenly as a wave of pain rolled through him, his breathing becoming harder. "Ardyn. Don't...trust..." his eyes slipped closed. "Promise...me. Not...give up," he whispered.
The four of them leaned in close to him, hands on him as they each spoke their promises, Severus the last to speak. "You have our word as Colonial Counter-Intelligence Officers, we will not give up."
"Riddle...and the Lestrange's will all be made to pay--"
"No," he shook his head, "not...them...Ro...dolph...us...Ra...bas...tan, not...the ones...you...need...worry about."
"What?"
"On the...disks..." he went limp then, chest rising once...twice, then went still.
"Tristyn?" Kili breathed. "Oh, KOBOL, not again."
"Tris?" Roark leaned down to press his ear to his chest. "Damn it, Tristyn!" he jerked his head up. "Don't you do this!"
Severus bent his head, pressing his ear to the still chest, and came up swearing. Tearing open the uniform shirt to get to Tristyn's chest as silence began to fall, everyone realized that the older warrior must have died, though the officer in black and scarlet was pumping his chest.
That was when the Garrison Commander, Captain Ardyn Grenville, arrived. Stepping out of his air car, he froze at the scene before him.
Moving to where Harry and Roark knelt, seeing that the only Durin present was Kili and Dacian's husband. Where there was one Durin though, the other's were usually not far behind. As his hands settled on Roark's shoulders, he wondered where they were.
"Roark," he said softly.
Kili's head jerked up at his voice, tear-filled brown eyes narrowing in the most unbelievable fury, the ground beneath them giving off a rumble as his earth magic responded to his fury. Swearing sharply, Severus stopped his pumping, shaking his dark head as he reached over to cover Kili's hand, giving it a hard squeeze of warning.
The fury in Kili's eyes died as quickly as it had flared, the rumbling stopping, but then Harry and Roark's heads came up, the exact same look of fury in their eyes as had been in Kili's, only the flare of magic was several times stronger as the brothers fed each other.
Their heads began to turn, to look up at Ardyn with yellow-tinged emerald, and red=tinged silver. Fire and lightning magic began to build as Severus swore again, only this time, silently. : HADRIAN! ROARK! : came his shout into their minds, making their eyes snap over to him. : Don't you DARE! : he met each of their gazes. : Yes, he said not to trust him, so we will not. We still have no proof as of yet. : His black eyes locked on Harry. "NO smiting him with lightning, however amusing it would be, young man. : His head turned. : And DEFINITELY no turning him into a human fireball. :
A pause. : Fine, : they both grumbled together, making Severus nearly smile at their disappointment.
"What happened here, Corporal?" Roark asked as he got to his feet, turning to face the man as the others rose as well.
"We're really not sure, Lt. Roark. Lt. Tristyn, Lt. Logan, and Lt. Kili came in together for dinner, had a couple of drinks, talking, laughing, having a good time. Lt. Kili received a call, and left a few centon's {minutes} later."
"Ki?" Roark asked, turning his head with an arched brow.
"A call from whom, Kili?" Harry asked instantly. "Fili?"
"No," he answered with a shake of his head. "It was one of our contacts. He was finally getting back to us with some information Fi, Tyler and I were hoping to get. He said he had tried them first, but they told them to call me as they were tied up in following other leads. I went to meet him."
"ALONE, Kili Matthew?" Severus demanded in a tone that had Kili's already pale face going white.
Kili nodded. "Yes, Severus, I went alone. I'm sorry, I know the three of you said we weren't to go anywhere alone, but this was my only chance to get what we needed, and there wasn't anyone free to go with me that would not have sent him running."
They nodded. "Would he have trusted one of us?"
Kili shrugged. "That's really hard to say, Harry. He's always been extremely skittish, but...he may have."
"May have would have been good enough to work with. If he had looked like he was ready to run upon the sight of us, we could have hung back far enough for you to talk to him, but not too far that we couldn't get to you in case of trouble. Next time, if there is a next time, you are to call one of us. We are never too busy to go somewhere with you. Understand?"
Kili nodded, a slow smile curving his lips. "Yes, Sir."
"Good, now that we have that settled," Harry turned, "Go on, Corporal."
