"Sir. It was a short time later that I observed Lt. Logan receiving a call. He spoke to the caller for a few centons {minutes}, then ended the call. He and Lt. Tristyn spoke at which time I heard Lt. Logan promising that he would be careful and that he would call if he should need any help. He gave him a smile and told him he'd see him at work tomorrow. He then left."
"Ki, I know this is a long shot as you were not there, but would you happen to know what that would have been about?" Harry asked.
Kili looked thoughtful for a moment. "Hard to say, Harry. It could be anything from another of our informants we've been slowly cultivating throughout the Capitol getting back to us. I have no idea which one though, nor what it could have been about. We'd have to ask Logan."
Nods. Then, "Corporal?"
"Lt. Tristyn then ordered another drink and made a call to someone that lasted no more than a few microns {seconds}. I would say it was perhaps a half a centar {hour} later before a man...tall, dark, sable brown hair, mid to late thirties, dressed almost completely in black leather, arrived." He frowned suddenly. "You know, now that I think back on it, he looked like he may have been a Terminator. He stood in the doorway for a micron {second} looking around the room. Once he spotted Tristyn sitting in the back corner booth, he moved to join him at the table. He leaned over the table, speaking too softly to be heard by anyone BUT Lt. Tristyn. There was a second man, coming in a few moments after him, but I really didn't pay too much attention to him as he went to the bar, and ordered a drink."
Roark tensed suddenly. "Dark, sable brown hair. Mid to late thirties...dressed almost entirely in black leather...Did you happen to notice his eye color, almost the color of sherry?" When he saw Merchant nod, he looked at the others. "Rodolphus."
"Think back Security Agent Merchant. The second man? Did he look the same as the first, almost to be his twin? He very likely would have been dressed nearly the same way."
Kevion Merchant looked thoughtful for a moment, then slowly nodded. "He turned his back to the bar...occasionally sipping from the glass, his eyes looking around, but when he wasn't looking around...? His eyes were trained on the table where Lt. Tristyn and the other man were talking."
"Rabastan."
Kili's head tilted suddenly. "Why," he began, looking, and SOUNDING more than a little confused, "would Tristyn be talking to Rodolphus Lestrange? And what was Rabastan doing there?"
"Now THAT would be a very good question, Ki, but one we aren't likely to get an answer to any time soon."
"It sounds to me like Rabastan was keeping an eye on things," Harry told them, "as much as he was watching his brother talk to Tristyn."
None of them had noticed Severus slipping away as Roark shook his head. "Curious. Very, very curious. Just WHAT are those two up to now?" he turned his attention back to the Corporal. "Go on, Corporal. What happened next?"
"It seemed to me that as time went on, their exchanges seemed to become tense, as if the Lieutenant didn't agree with something that was being said, was arguing with him about it. The one you said was Rabastan seemed too tense, then he pushed away from the bar and crossed to the table to take an empty chair. Lt. Tristyn looked at him, nodded, and spoke to him. Rabastan spoke back, and then it began all over again, this time with Rabastan joining in. That was when Rodolphus shook his head said something that had Rabastan nodding in agreement. None of them were angry...in fact I'd say they were far from angry, but they were nowhere near agreement either. Finally, after about another centon {hour} of talking, they got up and left."
"Did Tristyn leave directly after Rodolphus and Rabastan?" Kili asked quickly.
"No, Sir. In fact, the Lieutenant ordered another drink. He seemed to be troubled by whatever the two Terminators had said to him, and he looked as if he were trying to figure something out. He was distracted when the woman approached him, and sat down beside him."
"Woman?"
Kevion nodded. "They spoke for a few moments, then left together."
"This woman? Did you recognize her? Remember seeing her in the club much?"
"No to either of those questions and I would have remembered her had I seen her here before. She was very beautiful with long, curly midnight hair that fell down her back, her face painted to perfection, a body most men wouldn't mind having in their beds every night, dressed in a bright red dress. Now that I think about it, she looked like she may have been a Socialator. A few licensed ones come in and work for the club every night."
"I see," Roark said thoughtfully.
When none of them seemed to have anything further for him, Ardyn nodded to the man. "That will be all, Cotporal, but remember to keep yourself available just in case there are more questions later," he told him, wondering just what the hell the Lestranges were up to.
Roark turned as the medical crew arrived. Kili shifted closer to him and Harry, shivering as he pulled his coat around him. "Are you alright?" Roark asked of him, slipping his arm around him and drawing him into his side. murmuring a soft warming spell as the techs lifted Tristyn's body into the air car.
"I'm fine, Rory," he said softly, the pleasant warmth of not only the heating spell, but Roark's fire magic wrapping around him like a warm blanket. "Thanks, that feels better."
Roark gave him a smile. "Ardyn, tell them I want a full autopsy done as soon as possible. That bleeding just was not normal."
"I'll go talk to them," he said moving past them.
"So, what do we do now?" Kili asked the brothers.
"Do you know anything about those disks he mentioned?" Harry asked him, looking at his brother with a sudden frown. "Damn it, Roark! Where is your coat?"
Kili shook his head. "No, but it sounds like Logan does. I can go to Logan's if you like," he said, looking at them, smiling softy as Harry fussed about Roark's forgotten coat.
"In our office, right where I left it," Roark answered him. "Fire element, brother mine," he said, brushing his hands away. "It would have to be a whole lot colder than this before I'll feel it, and yes, Ki, I would like you to do just that. While you're there, I also want you to find out why he turned his communicator off."
Kili blanched. "He did WHAT?!" he hissed.
Roark nodded. "Corporal Merchant said he attempted to call him, but his communicator had been shut off."
"That idiot!" Harry snapped out softly. "He knows better than that. Especially given the circumstances we find ourselves in."
"On second thought, Ki, I don't want you going anywhere. I want you to go back to the Aquarian. Call FIli. You are to tell him that I don't care what he's doing, he's to drop it and come meet you there. I want the both of you to go to Logan's. Do NOT talk to anyone, Kili. Is that clear?"
Kili nodded. "What about the two of you and--HEY! Where did Severus go?"
"I think he's talking to some of the customers that were in the club," Harry answered.
Roark gave a brief nod to Ardyn. "Don't worry about me. He's out to seduce me, not kill me."
"Not yet, anyway. Still," Kili looked at him, "be careful."
"I will be, of that, you may be sure."
Kili nodded, turning to head back to the Aquarian as he pulled his communicator from his belt, the brothers watching him go with smiles. Roark was just about to turn when he suddenly froze, a feeling he only ever felt when Rodolphus was nearby washing over him.
"What is it?" Harry asked at once.
"They're here," he breathed, turning to follow that feeling as Harry tensed, emerald green eyes narrowing as he too turned...
