Just forewarning, I suck at battle scenes. I hope this isn’t too bad.

The night was clear when Harry stepped outside onto the small porch at the front of the cottage. The stars twinkled merrily above the tops of the trees. Various night creatures sang their nightly songs as they carried on with their nighttime wonderings. The air was crisp and clean filled with the scents of the surrounding forest and just the hint of smoke from the village a few miles from them. Severus stepped out behind him encircling Harry in his arms. Their newly completed bond sang between them.
“It’s peaceful.” Harry commented.
Severus hummed in agreement. “Yes, it is, almost too peaceful.”
“Is there really such a thing?”
“When in the middle of a war, yes.”
Harry sighed allowing Severus to rest his chin atop his head. The rest of the clan should be leaving Hogwarts by now and would be here soon. As much as Harry loved being with Severus, just the two of them, he would feel better once everyone was together and safe. He tensed when he noticed an ethereal white glow heading in their direction through the trees.
“Severus, look.” Harry whispered.
Both vampires stepped off the porch and met the glowing shape of a small terrier at the gate.
“It’s Ron’s Patronus.” Harry felt fear fill him. Why would they need to send a Patronus? They had all agreed on the times of departure and the estimated arrival. The group should just be leaving the castle.
He’s here. Those two words were all that came forth from the terrier’s mouth before it disappeared.
Harry and Severus spared only a moment to look at each other as understanding settled between them. The next second, they were speeding through the trees in a race to get to their clan, to Hogwarts, before it was too late. Harry’s heart was in his throat. There was no way they were ready for this, there was no plan, no preparation, and Voldemort had come at them while they had their guard down. It was only a small mercy he had not attacked during exams.
Severus transformed as they sped past Hogsmeade which was evacuating those unable or unwilling to fight. He jumped onto Harry’s shoulders to not get lost in the chaos. No one but the clan knew he was alive and he needed to keep it that way until the right moment.
Edge. Where are you? What’s the status? Severus reached out to the Clan Sire.
In front of the castle. Aurors are already here and on the front line. The wolves are with me. Ron and Hermione are inside helping evacuate the younger students. So far it is just random Death Eaters that are coming out of the wood work.
No sign of him?
No, the coward is hanging back.
We will come to you.
Severus quickly relayed the conversation to Harry who made a beeline for the front of the castle. If they took out a random Death Eater that just so happened to cross their path, well then so be it. They would have no idea what hit them anyway.
“Edge!” Harry called slowing as they got close.
“Harry. Nox.” Edge looked relieved to see them unharmed.
The three wolves looked glad to see them but were tense in preparation for anything that made it past the Aurors, their keen eyes focused on the battle before them.
“Dumbledore asked that we remain here until they could get everyone safely out of the castle. Last line of defense basically.” Edge continued.
*The older years?* Severus asked from Harry’s shoulders.
Edge shook his head with a wry smile. “Many through a fit insisting they are allowed to stay. Any Seventh year that wished to stay is still here but Sixth and younger are being evacuated. Although I am sure there are a many that will sneak off and find a way to remain.”
Harry was certain he was talking about Slytherins mainly but also knew Ginny and Luna would remain. His worry increased knowing his friends would all be in the line of fire through sheer stubbornness alone no matter what he said.
“Any sign of snake face?” Harry asked.
Edge shook his head. “Not yet.”
Harry growled. “Figures. He’s going to let his groupies do most of the dirty work.”
*Did you expect anything else?* Severus drawled.
A roar sounded before the ground shook and vibrated nearly knocking them all off their feet. Chaos erupted from in front of them as Aurors started to retreat.
“Giants!” One yelled. “Watch yourselves!”
“Fuck.” Edge cursed.
Giants. He had recruited the giants.
The large beings came into view swinging their fists through the crowd knocking Auror and Death Eater alike through the air. Hexes and curses where being thrown left and right to no avail as everyone began running for safety out of the giants reach. Meaty hands suddenly slammed through the stone walls surrounding the entrance to the school. Debris flew everywhere. The group ducked, Nox quickly throwing up a shield to protect them. Edge nodded to him in thanks.
The wolves dashed forward with snarls, biting at fingers that barely fit into their mouths, letting go at the last second to avoid being lifted into the air and thrown as the giants roared. Moony tackled Tonks to get her out of harm’s way before throwing the clumsy witch onto his back. Silver used a piece of conveniently placed rubble to jump off of to grab what he could of a thigh. The giant roared, swinging an arm down to knock Silver away. Silver was, thankfully, quick enough to avoid the hit. Cobalt was daring enough to grab one giants small toe barely avoiding being kicked.
Compared to the giants, the Guardians were still small, but they were effective in distracting the giants to allow the Auror’s time to get safely away while still fighting off the remaining Death Eaters. More giants were coming, though, and the wolves could not distract them all.
Edge rushed forth, weaving and winding between feet, jumping with great feats of agility to kick at ears, noses, and eyes while avoiding hands and fists that could easily crush even him. Harry was flitting around moving Auror’s quickly out of attack range while simultaneously throwing Death Eaters in it. One giant roared as it starting hitting its own head with a fist, no doubt the work of Nox; wherever he was hiding, as he was not currently on Harry’s shoulders. Edge knew that the fox was still close by and most likely still within view of Harry.
Dark shapes suddenly started swooping overhead and targeting the giants. It took Edge a moment to realize they were the gargoyles that kept a watchful eye over the castle. The one giant that was hitting its head went limp and fell shaking the ground while taking out part of the stone wall; wizards and witches alike running away with startled screams. One giant down.
Nox narrowed his eyes over the scene from his advantage point on a small stone overhang above the Great Hall doors. He kept an especially watchful eye on Harry but watched out for the others as well. It was harder to take the giants out mentally than he had thought it would be. Still, he could create barriers and shields to protect those in immediate danger and many of the Death Eaters proved easy targets. The doors burst open beneath him, magic bombarding the unsuspecting giants, and pushing them back.
“RETREAT!” Dumbledore’s voice rang over the chaos. “INTO THE CASTLE!”
That meant all those not fighting had been evacuated. The students were safe.
Everyone began to retreat. The gargoyles taking over fighting with the giants honestly doing a much better job than all of them combined. Another giant fell unmoving as the witches and wizards fled. Nox quickly created a barrier around the door that only allowed their allies entrance before jumping down. Harry paused long enough in helping; making sure his most recently flitted Auror was steady on their feet, giving Nox enough time to retake his place on his shoulders. Nox did not miss the curious look Dumbledore shot him as the old man continued in his aid.
The wolves and Edge were the last to retreat. Edge paused to do a quick sweep, making sure none of their own were left, when a fist, bigger than him, knocked him flying. He couldn’t scream as the hit had knocked any and all air out of him. Pain erupted from his arm as it broke and possibly even some ribs as well. Edge landed on a pile of sharp rubble, the sharp edge of one broken stone cutting harshly into the small of his back as he bounced and tumbled to a stop.
Edge tried to draw breath and coughed blood onto the ground. Internal bleeding; not good. He attempted to stand but couldn’t. Nothing worked. His left arm was broke and he couldn’t feel his legs. Edge coughed up more blood suddenly feeling dizzy.
*EDGE!*
His dragon. Everything went dark.

Nox slunk through the shadows and bushes, his small form perfect for the mission. Voldemort wouldn’t have an attack on the school without being close by and the most logical place was within the forest. All Nox had to do was find him and report his location back to the others. They could then lead a surprise ambush and hopefully end this bloody war for good.
The fox stopped, his large ears twisting, listening for any sounds. He turned toward voices. There.
Nox crept slowly closer, his small padded feet making barely a sound, and eventually came across a large clearing that housed multiple Death Eaters and snake face himself. Found you. Nox thought before sending the others of the clan his location within the forest. Now he only had to wait for backup to arrive.
The Death Eaters consisted of Voldemorts Inner Circle. Nox spotted Bellatrix, the Carrow’s, Yaxley, and even the Malfoy’s were present. Lucius looked pale and haggard, Narcissa not much better though she hid it well, but they both still stood tall. Voldemort paced clearly awaiting something. A missive, perhaps? His snake was curled up just behind his pace line.
Nox picked up a soft rustling, one ear flicking back toward it, before turning his head to sniff the air. Wormtail. No doubt the rat had been spying in the castle. Nox would not let the rat make it back to his master. Moving stealthily, Nox moved into position and waited for the rat to scuttle closer before pouncing silently into the air, curving his back, to land silently onto the rat a paw blocking his squeals.
*Well, well, Wormtail. Where are you off to in such a hurry?* Nox purred darkly.
The rat squirmed and wiggled but Nox never lost his grip. *I don’t taste good. I swear. Wait.* The rat paused in his squirming. *You know who I am.* He squeaked fearfully. *You’re not just a fox.*
*You do have a brain. Impressive.*
The rat suddenly shifted, his form growing bigger, pushing Nox off him and tried to run but he didn’t get far before freezing. Nox transformed, dusting off his robes, before quietly making his way around in front of Peter. Beady eyes widened at the sight of him. Severus smirked.
“Now, here is what you are going to do.” Severus said weaving his way into the trembling cowards mind. “You are going to go back the way you came, return to the castle, and turn yourself into Kingsley Shacklebolt like a good little rat. No detours. Straight to the castle. Straight to Kingsley.” Severus felt his smirk widen at the vacant expression that come over Pettigrew’s face. “Go on. Be a good rat and go turn yourself in.”
Peter nodded before turning and doing as Severus instructed. Mind weaving; it was better than any Imperious, as it left no trace. Once Peter got to his destination, that vacant look would fade as he did as instructed.
*Was that Wormtail?* Moony asked quietly as the group came into view shortly after Pettigrew had gotten out of sight.
Severus nodded. “Yes. Cobalt will be a free wolf come morning.” He looked at each member in turn. Moony of course stood close to Shadow whose green gaze held bold determination to finish this war once a for all. Severus was surprised to find Cobalt missing. Instead, Silver slunk out of the shadows. “Silver?” Severus looked at the wolf concerned and curious. “Why are you here?”
Silver said nothing. His golden eyes looked dull but alert; his head hung slightly and ears half back. The wolf looked miserable but determined to be there as well.
*He’s not speaking currently.* Shadow explained softly. *Cobalt remained behind instead.*
Severus looked back at the silver gray wolf. “If you are sure?” When the wolf nodded, Severus returned it with a small one of his own. “Very well. Follow me.”
Nox appeared and lead the group silently through the trees back to the clearing. The group of Death Eaters and Voldemort remained still oblivious to anything being wrong although Voldemort was starting to look irritated.
“Where is that blasted rat? He should have returned by now.” Voldemort hissed.
Nox would have smirked had he could. That was one report the snake faced bastard would not be getting. He turned back to the others.
*You three spread out around the group. Once you are in place, I will create a distraction that will give us the best opportunity to create chaos. Shadow, you go straight for snake face, the rest of us will keep the others preoccupied.*
Shadow and Silver nodded. Moony looked down at Nox intently. *Are we aiming to kill or maim?*
*Maim.* Nox answered. *But don’t hesitate to kill if needs must. They will certainly be aiming to kill us.*
Moony nodded turning to take his place around the group of dark wizards, Shadow and Silver moving to do the same. The fact that Lupin was asking said volumes. Seems the wolf had reached his limit of being merciful.
Once all three had checked in, Nox moved to take his place to be the distraction. He took a deep breath before reaching out, weaving his way through each mind located in the clearing, creating what he wanted them to see and feel. He targeted Bellatrix first knowing she would be the most volatile and easiest provoked then quickly went after the Carrow’s and the others. Nox touched each of the Malfoy’s minds before deciding to leave them be. They had been forced here, Voldemort wanting them to watch their son’s death, and did not deserve to be included in the chaos that was about to ensue.
Sure enough, Bellatrix succumbed first. She twisted and snarled at Amycus throwing a hex at him believing he had sent one first. Alecto then came to her brother’s aid with a curse. Loyalty spiraled down from there. Within seconds the Death Eaters had turned on each other leaving Voldemort cursing and yelling in anger, confusion, and frustration.
Silver, your parents have been forced here. It may be best to remove them for now. Nox thought at the wolf.
He received no reply but saw the wolf jump and dodge through the curses toward his parents. Yaxley noticed the wolf and was able to fight off Nox’s hold enough to turn his wand on him but Moony took care of him biting into the arm holding his wand enough the bone snapped. The scream that tore from Yaxley’s throat woke many of the others from their visions.
Silver hurried to his parents sliding into them pushing them backwards out of the clearing and into the trees where they could not be seen. Lucius grumbled and cursed while Narcissa eyed the wolf that had pushed them. Their wands had obviously been taken for Lucius grabbed a large stick to swing at Silver in self-defense. Silver stepped back a hurt expression coating his wolfish features.
“Lucius, wait, please.” Narcissa held out hand to stop her husband.
Lucius did staring at his wife like she had lost her mind. Narcissa ignored him slowly stepping toward the large wolf looking between them. Silver shifted on his feet lowering his head to meet his mother’s stare with one of his own. It took a moment, but Narcissa lifted a hand with tears in her eyes allowing Silver to press his nose into the palm of her hand. A sad smile graced her features.
“Draco, my boy.” She whispered as the tears over flowed.
Lucius let the stick drop from his hands drawing their attention to him. “Draco?” He questioned as though not believing what he was seeing.
Silver whined, his ears twitching back catching the sounds of the fight going on behind him. He couldn’t stay with them. Forced or not, they had disowned him, and his clan needed him more. Perhaps, once this was all over, they could meet and talk. He gave his mother one last sorrowful look before turning back to the fight at hand.
Meanwhile, Shadow had worked his way through, using the chaos to get closer to Voldemort. They had this one chance, he couldn’t blow it. He had finally gotten close enough that he transformed, catching Voldemort off guard like planned, the snake like man stepping back and stumbling a few paces, when Harry suddenly found himself unable to move. Coils wrapped around him tightly in an attempt at cutting off his air supply which he thankfully did not need. Nagini hissed in his face her tongue slipping out to taste the air.
*Sssssorrow coatssss you young death.* She noted speaking directly into Harry’s mind not making a sound that Voldemort could hear.
The mad man in question laughed triumphantly. “Harry Potter. So glad you could join us.”
Harry struggled but Nagini only tightened her coil around him. *Where issss the living death?*
Voldemort walked closer to them smiling triumphantly. Harry stopped squirming knowing he was going nowhere. The snake was coiled too tightly around him for him to get any kind of traction or purchase on her.
*Who?* He questioned her eyeing Voldemort as he got closer. He could hear the chaos around him, hexes and curses flying, and the growls of Moony and Silver.
Nagini narrowed her eyes. *Living death.* She replied as though he was slow. *The vampire sssssspy.*
Harry blinked. Oh, she meant Edge. Voldemort adjusted his sleeves before raising his wand. Harry gritted his teeth. *He’s not here. He’s hurt, possibly dying,* was all he could muster to answer her. Fuck, was he going to die here too?
Nagini tasted the air again her dark eyes never leaving his. Voldemort opened his mouth then fell to the ground clutching his head in pain. Nagini and Harry both watched the madman struggle before looking up at the fox that stepped out of the tree line staring at the writhing mass without mercy. Nox, nor Harry, noticed Voldemort fighting to get his wand around. Harry was dropped to the ground at the same moment Voldemort through a curse at the fox.
“No! Severus!” Harry yelled watching with dread hoping against hope that Nox would be able to get out of the way.
Nox jumped at the last possible second narrowly missing the curse by the tip of his tail transforming as he hit the ground. Harry rushed to him, completely forgetting about everything else going on around him, his only concern being for his mate.
“Severus, are you okay?” Harry asked worriedly helping the man sit up.
“Fine.” Severus snapped quickly shaking off and getting them both to their feet. “You?”
“Same.”
Turning back to Voldemort they froze in shock at the image before them. Voldemort was turning purple his eyes bulging as the large snake curled tightly around him. Nagini had turned on her master.
Bellatrix noticed first and screamed turning no doubt to kill Nagini but Severus hit her full force first. She dropped immediately. The few others still left standing froze as they watch their former master take his last struggled for breath.
