“Now I know you’ve gone barking mad,” Nott sneered. “That jumped up little mudblood has you so twisted up you’ve gone round the bend.”
Draco slammed Nott against the wall, magic crackling from his fingertips. “If I ever hear you say that word again Nott, Greengrass won’t have to worry about her contract to you.”
Nott swallowed hard, struggling uselessly against Draco’s hold. Draco was secretly pleased with himself. He was afraid he wasn’t strong enough to handle tossing anyone around yet. Maybe it was just his slight on Hermione, but he’d take it. No one would ever speak ill of his wife if there was something he could do about it.
“Dra-o,” Nott strangled out. “So-ry.”
Draco eased his grip enough that Nott could speak but he refused to let go. “You ever speak ill of Hermione again Nott, and I’ll make sure you don’t live to see your next birthday. Is that clear?”
“Crystal,” Nott whispered and breathed a sigh of relief when Draco finally let go. He rubbed his throat and eyed Draco warily. “You really like the chit, don’t you?”
Draco snarled. “I bloody well love her, not that you’d understand that sentiment.”
“You bastard,” Nott spat. “You bloody well know I do.”
“Then perhaps I should speak ill of the girl you supposedly love.”
Nott narrowed his eyes. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Draco smirked. “Why not? You’re head over heels in love with a muggleborn and you still use that derogatory word to describe her. Doesn’t set a shining example, does it?”
Nott snorted and looked away. “When did you suddenly grow a backbone?”
Draco resisted the urge to throttle Nott. He remembered when he felt the same way, beaten down by the old ways. He still was, even after the war. He’d made a bold leap, switching sides, but it still hadn’t let him escape from the values that every pureblood found dear. Until Hermione.
“Aren’t you sick of it?”
Nott wrinkled his brow. “What?”
“The bullshit, the posturing, the bowing and scraping, pretending not to notice the most lovely witch you’ve ever seen because she’s somehow beneath you through an act of pure chance and parentage. And even though you know for a fact that she could out duel you, out think you, outperform you in every task, you still have to pretend that she’s no better than filth on the bottom of your shoe.”
Nott sighed heavily. “I don’t deserve her.”
“And you deserve Daphne?”
Nott rubbed his eyes, suddenly looking ever so much older than 17. “There is no way out Draco. Daphne and I looked for hours. The contract is iron clad and if it is as you say, then I can’t even give back the fucking dowry to void the contract.”
“Didn’t you already have one written up?” Draco asked softly.
Nott looked terrified. “How did you find that out?”
Draco shrugged. “I have my ways. But never mind that for now. Would you still marry that girl?”
Nott closed his eyes. “If Theresa would have me, I’d marry her in a heartbeat.”
“So do it,” Draco said. “Marry her.”
Nott just stared at him for a moment. “And the contract?”
Draco smirked. “Daphne is still pure and my girl is putting ideas in her head as we speak.”
Nott gaped in a most unattractive manner for a good long while. “You think Justin would have her?”
Draco shrugged. “Only one way to find out.”
Nott sat down hard. “I’m too young to marry.”
Draco scoffed. “You drew that contract up last year you wanker. You’re just scared.”
“Wouldn’t you be?”
Draco smirked. “Not at all.”
“So you’d marry the mu- Granger right this moment.”
Draco nodded. “And the one before that as well. She’s the one for me Theo. I’m not about to let her go.”
“What about your father? He’s not in Azkaban. He’s still the head of your family.”
Draco sighed. “I’m aware of that, thank you. I have my own vault. It isn’t much, but it’s enough. If I get blasted from the family tree, so be it. It’s time to stop cowering under our fathers' thumbs Theo. The light won the war. Why not change the world in the aftermath?”
Nott shook his head in disbelief before letting a tiny smile slip onto his previously expressionless face. “Gryffindor looks good on you mate.”
Draco scoffed. “She looks good under me. And on top. And against the wall.”
Nott chuckled. “Touché, mate. But… what about everyone else?”
“Fuck them. It’s what we want that matters most. If we ruffle a few feathers, so be it. This is our chance to make our own destiny. Besides, it’s high time we stepped out of the shadows… Slytherin style.”
Hermione was waiting for Draco outside the abandoned classroom he was talking to Nott in. She’d already had a rather long and intense discussion with Daphne, who had a light in her eyes for the first time in a year. Hope. She couldn’t wait to tell Draco and get started on the next phase of their plan. It would be all her since Theresa and Justin had already been slighted once and they wouldn’t trust Draco.
“How did it go?” She breathed as soon as Draco stepped out.
Draco smirked and cut a glance over to Nott, who had a dreamy look on his face. “How do you think?”
“Perfect,” she gushed. “I’ll get started now.”
“Not so fast,” Draco said, grabbing her arm and spinning her back around. “You forgot something.”
Hermione grinned and rose to her tip toes to plant a kiss on Draco’s mouth. They discussed their new approach to changing the world the previous night after they’d exhausted themselves in their lovemaking. They would go for the shock factor. She had her friends to back her… and protect her if necessary. Perhaps a little shock therapy would go a long way. Besides, no one had to know the extent of their relationship. She would have to hide her pregnancy though, at least until everyone got used to the idea and the danger had passed.
“Mmm,” Draco said as he pulled back. “Strawberries.”
Hermione blushed. “I… I just felt like some.”
Draco couldn’t wipe the silly grin off his face. She was already having cravings. He just hoped she passed the whole morning sickness thing. He didn’t think he could handle her being sick. That reminded him. She needed to take her vitamin potion and her nourishment potion.
“Come with me love,” he whispered. “We’ve got a previous engagement.”
Hermione looked confused for a moment before she realized that he was pointing in the direction of the hospital wing. Her eyes widened and she took off after him. Draco looked over in time to see Nott smirking at him.
“We’ll talk later.”
Nott nodded and waved them off.
“Think we made an ally?” Hermione asked.
Draco grinned. “I think we’ll have four by the time we’re done with this. He’s completely head over heels for Theresa; he’s just being coy about it.”
Hermione sighed and shook her head. “Slytherins.”
Draco smirked. “I think everyone needs a little Slytherin in them.”
Hermione blushed and he laughed.
AN: In answer to the contract question, I picture the virgin clause as a binding contract. Once smexy times happen, the contract tries to seal itself. BUT, if you have smexy times with another person, well, different magical signature means no contract. At least... that's how I see it. Anyway, thanks to everyone who reviewed. Made my rotten day a little brighter. Until next time... love you guys.
PS: I have to apologize to everyone reading BTP and FF. I have the worst case of writers block ever.. as in.. I've stared at a half finished chapter for a week solid and can't seem to write more than a sentence or two at a time. I'm not abandoning them, but it might take a few days to work through it. *covers head* Please don't flog me.
