Nurmengard
The next few weeks had gone by way too fast in Harry´s opinion. His parents and Sirius had been thrilled when he took them to get their wands from Gringotts. They had celebrated that evening with a deliciously cooked meal, prepared by Lily and the first thing Harry wanted to see was James´s animagi. It looked exactly like his Patronus, and Harry smiled at the familiar sight. Of course, it didn´t glow white but it was still beautiful. He had also met Scrimgeour to ask him for permission to visit Nurmengard prison. The minister was very sceptical and had asked for time to think about it. Two weeks had gone by and Harry still hadn´t heard back from him. They had celebrated Ron´s 18th birthday and the weather started to get milder.
He had met with Mr. Stevens and was pleasantly surprised when he was told that they had only one house left that wasn´t finished. He had gone to check out his and Severus´s house and he absolutely loved it. The barn was made of stone instead of wood. There were huge windows facing the yard and the backside that overlooked the ocean was completely out of glass. It was an amazing view. The barn wasn´t huge but it was quite big. The ground floor was completely open. Only the bathroom was separate. The kitchen was beautiful. It had a huge stone island and wooden cabinets everywhere. He found, very much to his surprise that the house did have electricity. There was a freezer and a coffee maker next to a few other things that normally wouldn´t be found in the household of a wizarding family. Mr Stevens had explained that he had created a spell that would protect such objects from magical interference and when Harry asked why nobody knew about it, he just shrugged.
The staircase was black metal and lead to the upstairs bedrooms. They were completely empty still, but it had the same wooden floors that were downstairs as well. The second story wasn´t quite as big as the main floor. From up there, you could look down into the living room. There was also room for another smaller sitting area in the hallway. Harry could picture it, with huge bean bag chairs a small coffee table and maybe some different lights. There were five bedrooms. Two bigger ones and three that were quite a bit smaller. Each bedroom had his own separate bath and walk in closet. It was better than Harry could have imagined. When he had finished his walk through the house, he noticed that there wasn´t a room that was fitted for a potion lab. He asked about it and Mr. Stevens led him outside and towards a smaller building right next to the barn. From the outside, it just looked like a green house and there was one inside. But he did notice a door on the other site of the room and a staircase right next to him that led downstairs. He followed Mr. Stevens down the steps and was surprised by how big the underground lab was. There was a huge desk in one of the corners and empty shelves covered every inch of the walls. Mr. Stevens had explained that many potion ingredients had to be stored away from sunlight after they were harvested and that the house was too open for that. When they walked back up, he also said that he thought that they may want to have a space for guests that was separate from the main houses and led him through the door at the back.
It led to another small house, with its own kitchen, living room and what looked to be like two or three bedrooms. Harry thanked the man for his great ideas and couldn´t wait to tell the others about it. He also decided that it was time to bring Severus here to show him everything that had been done. It had almost killed him not to say anything, but he wanted it to be a surprise. There was a little part in him that was afraid that he might not appreciate being left out of yet another decision. And in hindsight, Harry probably should have asked him if he was alright with all of this. He had decided that he wanted his friends to be close. What if Severus wanted to live more privately, or maybe he wouldn´t like the house. Maybe it would be too open for him. But on the other hand, Harry also knew that Severus would be happy. He knew that no one ever really cared about him enough to do anything nice for him. In the end, his excitement won over his fears and he couldn´t wait to come home and tell Severus.
He really shouldn´t have worried. Severus had loved everything about the house and when Harry told him that one of the houses was for Draco and Ginny, he was met with one of the brightest smiles he had ever seen on his lover’s face. The only time it was even brighter was when Harry had accepted his proposal. He was truly moved by that. He knew how much Draco meant to Severus and had to admit that it hadn´t taken him a long time to weasel himself into Harry´s heart as well. Draco Malfoy was a good man. Yes, he used to be a bully and a prig, but he had changed his ways as much as Severus had. Love truly had a way to change the world. In that Dumbledore had been right. Harry thought the only times that Dumbledore truly thought him something worthwhile was when he had explained the power of love to him back in first year. At least that was the only good thing he could think of. Dumbledore certainly teached him quite a few other lessons, but they had been painful and were things any common sensed human should know anyways. It was his bad luck that his upbringing caused him to lack at it at times.
Harry was happy to see that the following days, Severus spend quite a bit of time to look through catalogues for furniture. He had come up with quite the list of things he wanted to get for the house and Harry was thrilled that he didn´t seem to be insecure about the fact that it would be Harry´s money that paid for all of it. Since he had been friends with Ron for so long, he knew that money could be a sore subject for someone who grew up in a poor household. He himself remembered all too well how it felt to be the kid with the hand me down clothes. Sure, in his case, the Dursley´s had been able to afford new clothes and had chosen not to provide them, but that didn´t make a difference for him. He had still been stuck with stuff that were five sized too big. He was just glad that he wouldn´t have to deal with all that in his relationship as well. He didn´t want money to be a divider between them. Ones they were bonded, all that was his would legally become Severus´s anyways so in his mind, all that didn´t really matter. Severus was his partner, and the bonding only made it official.
From the look of his quarters, Harry knew that Severus had great taste, so he was happy to let him make most of the decisions. The only thing he insisted on was a hammock. He always wanted to have one and Severus found one that matched the rest of the living room furniture perfectly. He also found a few antics and Harry fell in love with a coffee table that had a mosaic stone pattern which were the most beautiful shades of green. Harry planned on filling the house with plants and flowers. With the bright furniture Severus had picked it would make you feel like you are on a vacation every time you come home.
The others were starting to fill up the houses with furniture as well and Harry made sure that everybody knew that he was paying. They had saved so much money since the houses were built with magic that Harry almost hadn´t lost any money so far. Ron had mumbled uncomfortably but had accepted with the condition that Harry would allow him to pay him some of it back some day. They both knew that Harry wouldn´t need him too but he knew that Ron was proud and so he accepted without commenting on it again.
Bill, with the help from James, had mastered his animagi form rather quickly and had left to join Sirius and Remus on the mission. James had wanted to go as well, but Harry had asked him to teach a few others first. Ones they had a few younger members who could transform, they could be the ones to teach it at school. If in battle, you would come across a werewolf, anyone who can transform would be safe from the werewolf venom. And the more people could be spared such a fate the better. Harry knew how much the transformation took out of Remus every month. He would make sure that they would look into a cure one´s the war was won. If there was one, surely Severus would be the one who could find it.
Dudley had spent a lot of time with Lily. She had made it her mission to at least try to repair the relationship between him and his mum. She was furious with Petunia. When she got her wand back, he was the only reason that had stopped her from hexing her into pieces. So far, Dudley hadn´t moved one inch. He was rightfully furious with his mother. He was glad she was safe, but he didn´t want anything to do with her. She had asked Harry to speak to him as well and he tried, but he too failed to get through to him. So, she did the only thing she could. She became the mother he desperately needed. He wasn´t doing particularly bad, all thing considered, but she could see that he was suffering on the inside. He had been hurt, and as far as she knew, he hadn´t mourned his father’s death, nor had he allowed himself to be consumed by the betrayal and hurt both of his parents had put him through.
He slowly started to open himself to her and described the horrors of the house he grew up in from his perspective. He told her how much he had struggled with the fact that little kids are supposed to look up to their fathers. His voice sounded so conflicted when he asked her how he was supposed to look up to someone who beat up little kids. They were taught in kindergarten that you shouldn´t hit one another, but then he came home and watched his father kick Harry down the stairs. Watched how his mother just stood there and watched. How she sometimes even laughed when Harry was being hurt. That his parents taught him that it was okay to abuse freaks and how he didn´t think that Harry was a freak at all.
It had disturbed her to no end, and she saw how much his parents’ abusive behaviour to one, had clearly damaged this boy as well. She was saddened by how low her sister had sunk. But she also realized that Petunia Dursley had to be sick. No mother in her right mind, would allow her child to live such a life. She wondered at what point it was that she went over the edge. And she had to admit to herself that there were more than a few signs even when they were kids. She had always believed that Petunia was so spiteful because she was jealous, but maybe it had been more than that. Had they all failed her as well?
The ministry had finished warding London and the surrounding areas and many of the DA members were busy helping them to get it done faster. Harry had sent Hagrid to Bulgaria so he could get a new wand. Both Lily and James were teaching him while they trained themselves as well. Hagrid wasn´t a quick learner. He wasn´t dense, but the last time he had to actually learn was so long ago and learning wasn´t getting easier with age. He did make progress, so Harry was thankful for that. If they could get Hagrid up to a decent level, he would be one of their strongest fighters on the field. Since he was a half giant, the more harmless spells wouldn´t affect him and if they kept his training quiet, it would take the death eaters some time to take him as a serious threat. Everybody knew that Hagrid was expelled after only his third year. Up to that point, your education is rather basic, spells you wouldn´t use in combat. The only reason Harry and his classmates had learned about expelliarmus in second year was that nobody knew who or what was attacking the students. Without the chamber of secrets, there wouldn´t have been the duelling club where Severus had used it to disarm Lockhart.
It was the first Friday in April when Harry finally heard back from Scrimgeour. Hermione had just joined him and Severus in the living room, after she spent hours researching Harry´s theory and had made herself a cup of tea. Tonks sent him a message to meet her and Scrimgeour the next day at eleven and to bring anyone he wants to take with him to the prison. The message also said to bring Veritaserum since the ministry´s stock was low.
“I guess we have our answer.” Harry said. Now that this was becoming real, he couldn´t help but feel uneasy. Grindelwald was the Voldemort of another time; he was the real deal, and he was dangerous.
“Scrimgeour?” Severus asked. Harry read them the message.
“Tomorrow?”
“It seems like it.”
“Victor wants me to meet the team tomorrow. They have a friendly match with a new team that will start next season and he only wanted me to meet them when they managed to play as a team. It´s some superstition of his.”
“Then you have to go.”
"No! Are you kidding? This is more important than some game.”
“Hermione, this is not just about some game. This is about you, being a good girlfriend to the man who moved to another country for you. It´s important for him that you be there.”
“I know, I tell you what. The game doesn´t start until one. I will go with you and will leave early if I must. We have no idea how long this is going to take. Maybe he refuses to talk, and we went there for nothing.”
“Alright, do you know if Ron wants to come?”
“I don´t think he will want to miss it. I haven´t asked him but I´m pretty sure he would want to come.”
“Alright, where is he anyways? He´s hardly ever here.”
“So, he hasn´t told you. He´s such an idiot. He joined the auror program.”
“Why wouldn´t he tell me?” Harry asked.
“He says that he wants to surprise you but I think he didn´t want to tell you until he passed. I think he´s afraid that you will be disappointed if he shouldn´t.”
“He will pass, we both know that. Ron is better than he knows. And even if he didn´t, I wouldn´t be disappointed. I would tell him that he did a good job and that auror training is brutal and that he will pass the next time!” Harry yelled, he couldn´t help feeling hurt.
“I know that Harry, but you know how Ron´s mind works sometimes. He is insecure, always has been and that can cloud his judgement.”
“Still, you would think he knows better by now.”
“Just don´t take this personal. This has much more to do with him then with you. You know now, just don´t mention it before he brings it up okay.”
“Okay. So, when does he usually gets back?”
“Around eleven. The instructors are drilling them. Two nights a week and every weekend. Since it´s an extra course for DA members they know that they have other commitments at times, but apparently you are to make up the lost time in a one-on-one lesson that is even more demanding than the normal lessons.”
“Well good, I made damn sure that the program will be as hard as possible. We need REAL fighters, people who are strong and quick both in mind and on their feet. The training they had before was good, but not nearly good enough. It certainly was enough for normal break ins or the casual arrest for abuse or illegal trading, but this is war and since Scrimgeour left the department there hadn´t been any new recruits. This is the training they will need to get us through the war.”
“Ron says it´s great but he is sore, all the time. I wondered when you would notice that something is up.”
“How am I supposed to do that when I never see him? The last conversation we had that lasted longer then two minutes and wasn´t in class was at his birthday party.”
“Well, you have been busy as well haven´t you?”
“I guess. Never mind, I will probably be asleep when he comes back. This pregnancy is really starting to wear me down. I underestimated how difficult everything becomes ones you can´t reach your feet anymore. Thank God, for magic. We need to get Dumbledore out of here so that I can announce to be the heir and can stop going to classes. I will get my owls after the birth and will tell McGonagall to step in as headmistress until I decide what to do with the school. But I will probably let her run it long term. I love Hogwarts but I can´t wait until we move to our new homes. That doesn´t mean that I won´t go back at some point but I want a little family time first.” At that Severus tightened his arms around him and kissed his hair. They had spent the entire afternoon on the couch. Since Severus had so much more time now, he had become rather clingy, and Harry loved it. They spent many afternoons like this. Cuddled up on the couch before the fireplace, talking or sometimes not. If this is what his life would be after they moved, then Harry would take it happily. Sometimes it overwhelmed him how affectioned Severus was with him, but it was always in a good way. In these times, Harry would cling to him even harder, and it was hard to separate them at all.
“We will have all the time in the world ones Riddle is gone. After you gave birth, we will collect the horcruxes and destroy them. I will have the potion ready for you by then and we have enough time to figure out, how to get the dark lord to school. After that, nothing will stop us from all the family time we want. We will still have work to do but hopefully without the thread of imminent death upon us.” Severus promised.
“We will make sure of that. None of us will let your girls grow up in a world of violence and fear. We look out for our family.” Hermione insured him and Harry smiled. That´s what they were. One giant family. Not all the DA, there were many members he didn´t know very well. In the past month they had gained a ridiculous number of new members from all over. As more members joined, the word spread even further, and then further and it all happened so quickly. Headquarters had become too small for everybody when they had meetings, so Harry decided that every country should pick two people who would attend as proxy´s. They would pass on everything they learned when they were back at home. He had lost count on how many they were, but he was sure Hermione knew. He made note to have the proxy´s trained extendedly so that they could train their people.
Harry excused himself not long after that. He was getting tired and wanted to take a bath before bed. He found that the hot water did wonders on his back. The muscle relaxant that Severus had brewed for him to put into the water allowed him to go to bed without backpains. He had enough of them when he woke up and it was such a relief to go to sleep without them. Harry sighed when he sank onto the sheets and pulled the blanked over him. He needed to be rested for the day ahead.
Nurmengard prison seemed to be a lot nicer than Azkaban. It was still dreadful but at least no Dementors were flowing about sucking all the happiness out of people. Scrimgeour had a stern look on his face. You could clearly see that he didn´t want to be there. One of the guards showed them to a private sector that harboured the most dangerous criminals. But since most of those were sent to Azkaban only a few cells were taken. Before they advanced, Scrimgeour turned and looked at Harry.
“Is there anything you want to know before you go in there?” Harry nodded.
“Yes, was there ever a trial? Was there ever an official interview after his arrest or was he put here right after the battle?”
“There was no need for a trial. Grindelwald claimed credit for many attacks that were happening around Europe. Everyone knew it was him so there never was a question in his guilt. He wasn´t arrested because of a specific crime, he was chased for years and years, leaving chaos and destruction wherever he went. When he was captured, there was so much evidence against him that he was locked away while he was still unconscious. At least that is what is written in the history books.”
“Right…” Harry said, and it was clear that he didn´t agree with that decision at all. If in battle captured not killed, everyone deserved a trial.
“Did anyone ever come to see him before now?”
“Yes, but only a hand of people. Some of his victim’s family came to see him in the beginning, but there is only one visitor who came back for all those years.”
“Dumbledore.” Harry said. It wasn´t a question.
“Yes, he came to see him only a few weeks ago.”
“Let´s go find out why.” Severus said and the prison guard told them to wait there. After only a few minutes he came back and told them that Grindelwald had agreed to see them. They were let into a small sitting room and waited. Another guard came in, leading a shackled man into the room. After he guided him to a seat, both guards left, and Grindelwald looked up. He had deep bags under his eyes. He was slim, not awfully so but seemed frail. His head was almost completely shorn which made his sharp cheekbones even more noticeable.
“Who are you?” Grindelwald asked with a small voice. Scrimgeour introduced them all and Harry could see that he seemed to recognize their names.
“Harry Potter, I have heard a lot about you.”
“I can imagine.” Harry said.
“Your old friend comes to see you often?”
“Every ones in a while.” Grindelwald said with a smile that didn´t reach his eyes.
“Why?”
“He likes to talk to someone he can trust.”
“Can he? Trust you?” Harry asked. Something wasn´t right. He had thought that Grindelwald´s presence would feel threatening, but he oddly felt at ease around the man who looked at him intently.
“No, I think not. Not after…” He didn´t finish.
“After what?” Harry asked.
“What happened that day?”
“You wouldn´t believe me if I told you.”
“Then it´s a good thing that we brought Veritaserum. Take it, tell us what happened, and we will have to believe you.” Grindelwald starred at him.
“I have requested questioning under Veritaserum for many years. I was always denied. Why are you here now?” Harry took a deep breath. Did he dare? Could he voice his suspicions? Before he could decide what to do, Hermione spoke.
“Because we discovered a few things that led us to believe that there is something more to the story then history tells us. We all have theory´s on what is going on, but it would be much easier for you to tell us what actually happened. You can either take a chance on us and talk, or we can leave right now, and no one will ever hear what you have to say. Your choice.” Grindelwald nodded and Scrimgeour instructed Tonks to Give him three drops. They had to play this one by the book. Tonks asked a few basic questions that anyone could easily answer incorrectly and when the first true answer came, everyone waited for Harry to speak.
“Are you Gellert Grindelwald?” Harry asked and by the sound of Hermione coughing, he knew that she had the same suspicion as him.
“That is hard to answer. I am, and I am not. Yes, Gellert is sitting in front of you, but he is many miles away. It is me Albus Dumbledore who is talking to you.” Harry heard a gasp. Scrimgeour seemed to be the only one who just only caught on.
“I knew it!” Hermione whispered.
“Tell us about the battle. What happened?”
“As far as I know, the accounts of the battle are accurate. We had battled for a long time. While we did, I tried to reason with him. I tried to convince him to hand himself in. That this wasn´t the way to achieve greatness. He didn´t want to hear it. There is a prophesy. One only he and I know about. He has killed the seer who made it right after.”
“What does it say? The prophesy?” Harry asked quietly.
“I don´t remember the exact words. But essentially it says that there will come someone who will rise as the master of death. There was a description of the man and back then, it fitted to him. He began searching for the deathly hollows and he couldn´t be stopped. He followed every lead; however ridiculous it was and killed anyone he met while he was on the search.”
“What the hell is a deathly hollow?” Harry asked.
“Right, the tale was written long after the founders time.” Hermione said and looked at him.
“Even I only learned about it recently. Draco lend me a book with wizard fairy tales. Let me explain.” And so, she did. Harry was fascinated by the story. He had raised his eyebrow by the mention of the invisibility cloak but didn´t interrupt. When Hermione finished, she looked at Grindelwald.
“But it´s just a story, right? There are mentions of strong wants through history and we all know that invisibility cloaks exist, but it isn´t real.”
“I´m afraid you´re wrong. He found two of them. He told me that your father had a cloak like one he´d never seen before and he has the wand. He´s using it every day.”
“What?!” Scrimgeour asked and shook his head.
“You are telling me, that Gellert Grindelwald was never captured but is walking out and about? That one of the most dangerous wizards of all time is not only around, but in charge of the future of the wizarding world. And he has the most powerful wand in existence. This is a PA nightmare.” Harry shook his head.
“Go back to the battle.”
“We fought for a long time and then I was hit by something. It felt like a fire was burning inside me. I fell to the ground but didn´t lose consciousness right away. I could see that Gellert was down too. I felt something hit my hand and when I looked his wand lay beside me. Then I passed out. When I woke up, I was here. I told the guards that there must be a mistake. But they didn´t even listen. It took me a few hours to figure out that this is not my body. I have gone through every book I ever read in my head a thousand times, but I have no idea what he did. I never heard of anything like it.” Something tickled Harry´s brain and when he looked, there was something about a soul transferring ritual.
“I might.” He said and scratched his head.
“It´s called anima translatio. It´s a mind ritual that rips the souls of two people out of their body´s. Merlin was the subject of a failed attack on his body, and it was forbidden in every country of the world because like in this case, criminals would be able to evade the law. You didn´t see it coming because it happens only in the mind. You need to hold your wand but you exercise the wand movements in your head. You think the chant in your head. Also, it´s all in Latin. Not many could do it and if you try and fail you die. How did he do it while in battle?”
“Occlumency.” Severus said.
“Of course…” Harry said.
“So, what happens now?” Hermione asked. Harry didn´t answer. It was on Scrimgeour to make the next call.
“Is there a way to reverse it?” Harry shrugged.
“I don´t know. But we will look into it. There is one problem. You heard the confession. You are morally obligated to release him.”
“I can´t do that! The wizarding population would panic if they saw Gellert Grindelwald walking down the street.”
“I am willing to stay here until all is sorted out. I wouldn´t protest if I were to be moved to a lower security level. I am not even allowed to have books. I have been terribly bored for so many years.”
“I will give the order at ones. I will also get you something to read. Much happened since you were locked up in here. If there is a way to get you into your own body again, you will need to know all of it.”
“He´s right.” Hermione said.
“We originally planned to just remove Dumbledore from the castle, but should it work, we don´t have to. You could remain at school and help us in the fight against Voldemort. You are widely regarded as the most powerful wizard alive. If we, have you on our site, we have a huge advantage. But for that to happen no one can suspect that anything is off about you.”
“So, I would never be allowed to tell my story.”
“No, of course not. After the war is won, you can do whatever you want. Write a book, give an interview to the papers, shout it from the roof tops if that´s what you desire. But Riddle cannot find out. I know you taught him when he was at school. He learned to fear you then, and he still fears you now, or at least who he believes to be you. We need that to beat him. You make him nervous and if he´s nervous, he will make mistakes.” Harry said. The false Grindelwald looked at them and nodded.
“Alright, sounds like a plan. Please do hurry. I cannot wait to get out of here.”
“We will. The next time we come to see you we will have a plan.” Scrimgeour promised. They said their goodbyes and Harry sighed when they stepped out of the building.
“You were right Mione. What a story. Life keeps getting weirder and weirder. I mean seriously. Gellert Grindelwald is Albus Dumbledore, like… what?” Severus placed his arm around his shoulder as they walked away.
“I know right? But I guess it´s a good thing in the end. This may give us a safe solution to our problem. We only need to shock Dumbledore to bring him here. They switch souls again and we leave, and no one will have a clue.”
“Hopefully. Let´s pray that there is a way to do it. Otherwise, we will have two big issues. We would have to get rid of Grindelwald and we could never release Dumbledore.”
“We have so much going on already. How are we supposed to find the time to research this properly? We need a short time solution.” Severus said and Harry had to agree.
“I am open to ideas. I don´t have one.”
“I might. It´s pretty simple really.” Ron said and the group stopped to look at him. He hadn´t said a word the whole time they were in there.
“Go on then.” Scrimgeour said.
“We surprise Grindelwald, shock him, and place him in the spell proved compartment in the trunk. We take his hair and Dumbledore can transform into his old form with Polyjuice potion until we have the time to figure out the rest. If the soul transfer is permanent, it can also be a long-term solution. We can strip Grindelwald his power and he will be no threat to anyone ever again.”
“That´s actually a great plan.” Severus told Ron who stood a little prouder.
“I agree, it will make the school so much safer.” Scrimgeour agreed.
“Alright. We will do it as soon as possible. Severus has Dumbledore´s trust. It will be easy for him to capture him.”
“He wants to see me tomorrow anyway. He wants me to report my findings. I will hex him as soon as he turns his back to me.”
“Don´t take his wand. Let it lie on the floor. Dumbledore is the one who needs to pick it up. He needs to take the wand, so it becomes his.” Harry told him.
“I think you should be the one to pick it up.”
“What? No, why should I?”
“Oh, I don´t know. Maybe because it´s the elder wand. The most powerful wand in the world. Maybe because you have to go fight Riddle. Don´t you having it would help you beat him? The most powerful wand should belong to the most powerful wizard.” Severus had stopped as he talked. He was watching Harry as he turned around to look at him.
“I don´t want it. I am perfectly happy with my wand.”
“Have you forgotten about the twin connection? You cannot kill him with your wand.”
“Then I will go get another one.”
“No, Harry. You will pick up that wand so you will have the best chance when the time comes. I know why you don´t want it. It´s yet another thing that makes you stand out more, but that doesn´t matter. You will do it because it´s what needs to be done. End of discussion.” Harry glared at him. The others were looking elsewhere, pretending to be invisible. None of them were stupid enough to get involved in a couple’s argument. Only Ron and Hermione seemed to be amused by the show.
“Come on mate, let´s get back to school. You can talk about this later.” Ron said after a few minutes of glaring. Harry sighed and walked up to his friends and away from Severus.
“Let´s go then.” He said and activated his portkey. He landed in the living room of the trunk. Ron and Hermione appeared only a second after him.
“He´s right you know.” Ron said.
“He always is. It´s so annoying. He hasn´t played the baby card yet but if I keep resisting, he will. And then there is nothing I can say after that.”
“Stay strong mate, it´s not long now and you won´t have that problem anymore.”
“I will still have to continue with all that was decided while I was pregnant.”
“Oh honestly, stop whining Harry. It´s a wand. A wand that will give you the edge you need. It´s a good thing.”
“She is also right.” Ron said grinning.
“Oh, shut up you!” Harry moaned and they started laughing.
“Alright, alright… You win.”
“I am pleased to hear that.” Came a voice from behind him. Harry groaned.
“You see what you did?” Harry said looking at Ron.
“I will never live this down.” Ron snickered.
“You´re an idiot. I have to go meet Victor.” Hermione said and marched out. Ron quickly mumbled something about Cho and left as well. Severus came up behind him and pulled him into his arms. Harry sighed.
“It´s a good plan.”
“I know, it´s just… all my life I was told to be normal. I wanted to be, but I never was. I know you know that but what you don´t know is that I am terrified. We both know how power can corrupt people. It´s hard enough to know just how powerful I am. If I take that wand, I fear I will become unbeatable. That knowledge can influence your thoughts. What if it goes to my head, what if I go mad?”
“You won´t.” Severus promised. Harry turned in his arms to look up at him.
“How do you know?”
“Because, you have an army of people who will set you straight if need be. Do you really think Molly or Hermione would let you get away with something like that? Do you think I would? Besides, the life you have lived has taught you right from wrong. Almost no one has ever done right by you and the wrongs committed were truly horrible. I know you; I know you would rather die then inflict such pain in another.”
“I hope you´re right.”
“You must stop being afraid of who you are and what you can do. Embrace it but use it for the good. I thought you left all that behind. You are doing a tremendous job Harry. All these people follow you because they know that you are our best shot. The world you want to create, is a place where no one has to be afraid. As much as you hate it, fate has chosen you to be the peoples hero. Use that!”
“I don´t know how! How do you stop being afraid?” Severus thought about it for a while before he answered.
“Maybe you don´t need to. Fear is important. As long as you fear to become corrupt you have nothing to worry about. The moment you are not afraid anymore, is the moment of no return. I don´t think you will ever reach it. You are too good of a person. Trust me.” Severus said and pressed a kiss to his lips.
“Alright, I trust you. Now let’s go over tomorrow. What´s your plan?” They spent the afternoon discussing the next day. After that, they had a light dinner and Harry worked on his homework while Severus started to brew multiple cauldrons of Polyjuice potion. They had enough stocked for the next two month, but they would need a lot more soon.
