The private room was silent and dimly lit even as the door was propped open for easy entrance in the case of an emergency. There was no worry that the occupants would be bothered. A large black wolf rested just at the foot of the bed his blue eyes trained on the door. On the bed rested a pale dark haired man. The only thing that showed he was alive was the charmed paper floating above him recording his heart rate and respirations. Both were slow but normal for the vampire that he was.
Draco sat beside the bed staring blankly at the pale, cool hand he held within his own warm grasp. He had felt like his world had ended when he watched Edge get tossed by the troll. He hadn’t been able to get to him quick enough. Harry had helped get Edge up and moved into the castle with Severus keeping them shielded from further attack. His mate only had one working arm and his legs had refused to work as he coughed up blood with every other step they made.
They had wasted no time in getting him to the Infirmary. Madam Pomfrey had moved quickly to work, shooing them all back as she assessed her patient. Edge was losing too much blood from his internal injuries and needed a steady return of blood until they were able to heal. Even though he was a vampire it was quickly determined that his wounds were severe. A steady transfusion would be his best bet. In a moment of clarity, Edge adamantly ordered them not to donate, that they were needed for the war, before he had lost consciousness his breathing ragged.
There had been no time to argue. Madam Pomfrey set up the transfusion with the stored blood they had on hand hopeful that it would be enough. The blood would be transferred directly into his system at a constant rate until everything was healed. Charms and spells fixed what they could but the rest would be left up to Edge.
Draco had been unable to sit still at the time. He had paced back and forth by the bed his arms wrapped around him while the others made a new battle plan. None of it registered with him until they started to leave. He couldn’t sit here, the wolf in him raging for revenge for their mate. Edge had been stable at the time, so Sirius, seeming to understand Draco’s silent plea, offered to stay.
Draco returned to his mates side the minute he returned to the castle.
The others kept him updated on events happening outside of the private room Edge had been moved to. Wormtail had indeed turned himself in. It would be a few days, considering all the processing that would need to be done over the next couple of days, but Kingsley had promised that Sirius would be cleared. The remaining Death Eaters had all been apprehended and taken to holding cells to await trial. Severus had spoken on the behalf of the Malfoy’s and convinced them to share their memories with the Auror’s proving their forced involvement. They were placed on house arrest until their trial. The trolls had finally been subdued and were in the process of being transported back to their lands.
Nagini stuck with Harry for the most part, the giant snake curling around his feet, and resting her head on his shoulder whenever Harry stood still long enough. It had taken Harry a lot of convincing for the Auror’s not to put the snake down. Nagini remained docile with those around her, scenting them and looking to Harry to determine if they were friend or foe. She kept checking on Edge though making it clear that it was the vampire she was truly wanting to speak to and be with. Madam Pomfrey; however, put her foot down stating that it was hard enough working around a giant wolf that she would not be dealing with the snake as well.
That had been two nights ago. Edge continued to sleep even though his vitals were normal and Madam Pomfrey’s scans told them he was healed.
Draco wondered how much had healed naturally and how much Edge had exhausted himself trying to speed up the healing process.
The blonde looked up as Cobalt moved to stand and stretch. He yawned and shook before transforming. Sirius sat on the bed by Edge’s feet.
“Why don’t you get something to eat? Stretch your legs a bit?”
Draco shook his head looking down at the sleeping vampire. “The sun will set soon. I want to be here.” He had to be here just in case Edge finally woke up.
Sirius sighed. “Okay, but afterwards take a walk, clear your head, and stretch your muscles a bit. We can watch over him for a bit and alert you to any changes. Deal?”
Draco knew his cousin was just worried about him. They all were. They were all worried for Edge as well. The vampire had become their family and had even helped them create their own family unit, their own clan. None of them wanted to lose the vampire, Draco especially. Edge was his mate; his mate he had just found and bonded with not yet a full week ago. He couldn’t lose him now. Not ever. Edge needed to wake up.
The blonde nodded but didn’t speak leaving Sirius to run a hand through his hair sadly. “Give him time. Everything is healed; he just needs the rest now.” Sirius said sounding like he was also trying to convince himself of the fact.
Draco said nothing and continued to watch Edge, his thumb starting to rub along the back of the pale hand he held in nervous comfort. He didn’t look up when Remus poked his head in, nor when Sirius stepped outside of the room to talk with him. Sirius wouldn’t go far; the man was taking his role as Edge’s Guardian quite seriously.
A finger twitched. Draco froze, staring down at it willing it to move again. Instead, blue eyes fluttered open, blinking a few times adjusting to the light before Edge groaned softly.
“Edge?” Draco asked hopefully.
Edge blinked a few more times before slowly turning his head in Draco’s direction. His eyes still looked so tired and dull, not their usual bright and shiny blue. “Lil’ dragon?” His eyes closed again but a soft smile made its way to his face and he tightened his fingers around Draco’s hand. “You’re here.”
“Of course I am here.” Draco scooted closer to the bed, practically sitting on the edge of the chair now, leaning closer to his mate. “Where else would I be?”
Edge did not reply. A few minutes passed, long enough that Draco thought Edge had lost consciousness again, before his eyes opened again this time looking a bit clearer than before. “The clan?”
“Everyone is safe. The war is actually over. We won. Voldemort is gone for good.”
Edge blinked even more clearly having a hard time registering Draco’s words and most likely the world around him. “We won?” He swallowed shifting uncomfortably in the bed. “Harry did it?”
Draco moved forward to help Edge sit up otherwise the stubborn vampire would overdo it trying to sit up himself. He chuckled a bit. “No, actually, plot twist, Nagini did. She turned on him at the last second.”
“Nagini?” Edge looked at him confused. “Really?” He leaned his head back closing his eyes again. “Good for her.”
If Edge had looked pale before, he now looked down right ghostly, the moving had drained him completely of all color. His breathing rate had increased a well. The vampire may be physically healed but magically and strength wise, he was still completely drained. Draco knew it would take a couple of good feedings to get Edge back to normal. Unfortunately, it would be more than Draco could handle safely on his own, at least for the first few feedings.
“So we are conscious.” Madam Pomfrey walked in hurriedly quickly checking over the paper floating with Edge’s vitals before looking at him sternly. “You should not have moved.”
“I was uncomfortable.” Edge complained tiredly but caved under the matron’s stern look. “I don’t think I have enough energy to move again anyway.”
Madam Pomfrey humphed. “How are you feeling?”
“Tired.”
“Other than the obvious, Edge. How are your arm and legs?”
Edge rotated the arm that the troll had struck before shifting his legs some under the blankets. “All in working order if not a little stiff.” He tried for a charming smile but didn’t quite make it. “You really are a wonder at your craft, Madam.”
Draco resisted the urge to roll his eyes focusing on just being glad that Edge was awake and able to talk.
Madam Pomfrey tutted. “I’m afraid most of the healing was your own doing. Foolish, if you ask me, but effective. I’m sure I do not need to tell you that only decent feedings can help you now. I suggest strong blood for the best effects.”
“Of course.” Edge agreed.
Madam Pomfrey took that as her sign to leave. Edge had closed his eyes again but Draco could tell he was still awake.
“Edge? Do you feel up to feeding now?” Draco knew nothing physical would come out of it; Edge was much too tired for that, but he still wanted to help his mate however he could. Edge would need more than Draco could give but Draco wouldn’t be able to let it go if he didn’t contribute.
The vampire looked at him wearily. “If I drank from you right now I might not be able to stop.”
Draco shook his head. “You can. You will. I trust you.”
Edge frowned with a sigh closing his eyes again. He was just so damn tired but being his mate, Draco would have the best blood for sustaining him right now. It wouldn’t be enough, just feeding from him, but he would provide a good punch in the right direction. The question was: did he trust himself enough to do so? Edge didn’t think Draco would give him much of a choice. Possessive wolf.
“Lay down beside me.” Edge replied without opening his eyes. He was getting drowsy again.
Draco moved to do so cuddling close to his dark haired mate. Edge hummed turning into him mumbling about Draco being warm. The blonde chuckled breathing in the sweet smell that clung to the vampire and cradling the back of his head allowing his fingers to curl into the dark strands. A soft moan emitted from Edge before he gently bit down into Draco’s neck. His feeding was sluggish at first, but Edge did not allow a single drop to be wasted. Draco closed his eyes simply enjoying the feelings coursing through him. Something must be said about circumstance because the warmth was more soothing than arousing and all encompassing.
Light headiness was starting to set in before Edge let go with a groan, his tongue lapping at the wound to get every single drop, and clearly not wanting to stop but Draco’s trust in the vampire was proven true though just like he knew it would be. Edge leaned back with eyes closed. Draco took time to notice that his color looked somewhat better even though the tired blinking at the ceiling gave away just how tired Edge still was. Just how much of his magic had he used up?
“I’m going to be fine, little dragon.” Edge spoke having noticed Draco’s worried expression. His speech was clearer so that was a plus. “I just need to replenish my stores and let my magic recuperate.”
Nothing else was said between the two mates. They laid in silence, wrapped around one another, simply enjoying each other’s presence. It had been a close call, but Edge would be okay, they all would be okay, and Draco was able to slip off into sleep without issue.

The moon was full shining its light brilliantly over the little cottage in the woods. The sky was also clear allowing the stars to twinkle alongside. Smoke billowed from the chimney telling of the warm fire burning in the hearth inside awaiting the return of most of the cottages inhabitants.
Moony, Cobalt, Silver, and Sabu had taken off to run through the woods the minute the moon had risen, the three large wolves howling in delight to the grumbled growls from the snow leopard. Severus had rolled his eyes in disguised fondness staying in the garden to harvest ingredients only obtainable during the full moon, said garden having been turned into a potions herb garden which Severus tended to with great care. The garden had been extended around the cottage as well to grow vegetables by request of Hermione. Hermione normally tended to that section, with the help of Ron and Dobby, but Dobby had recently taken up the lions share due to Hermione’s progressing pregnancy.
Edge eventually had another small cottage built for Ron and Hermione when the two mentioned wanting to extend their family. It was just as warm, just as homey, as the main cottage and the two had loved it. Harry was currently there enjoying the time spent with his friends. Fred and George were visiting and had brought Ginny along with them
The other Weasley’s visited the cottage quite frequently after the twins had hounded Edge enough into letting them in on the location of the cottage. After having his hair turned pink and his skin broke out into lovely blue patches one evening during a Weasley family dinner, Edge had caved. Once the Weasleys got used to Nagini, the giant snake silently curling up in front of the fireplace to stay out of the way, the two groups decided to rotate weekends on who would host. Who would have thought that Edge would have loved to cook so much? It was a brief glimpse into normal domesticity that Edge apparently thrived in after spending a significant amount of his life alone.
The Weasley’s, as well as Luna, Neville, and a few other friends and members of the Order took part in a rotating donation program for their friends. It allowed Edge, Harry, and Severus to live peacefully and coexist with the small village a few miles away from their home considering there would be no hunting or feeding from said villagers. It had taken time but eventually the witches and wizards who lived there opened up to them. Of course having Harry Potter living so close to their home probably helped with that.
“You should stop…” -Fred
“By the shop sometime, Harry.” –George
“There are a lot of new products recently.”
“Not mention it would be…”
“Good for business.”
Harry laughed at the twins knowing the last statement was just simple fact. “I would love to guys, only one problem; I can’t really go out for very long during the day without suffering significant sunburn.”
The twins looked at each other with ‘duh’ like expressions. “Guess we need special nighttime hours.” They said together nodding firmly as though it had already been decided and they would be implementing that very thing the moment they returned to the shop.
Ginny rolled her eyes. “I can’t believe the two of you hadn’t already thought of that.”
“That’s rich coming from you, Ginevra.” Fred stated.
George continued on. “You could have said something.”
“Not much of a spokesperson for our Harry here.”
Ginny glared at the twins getting ready to stand but Hermione drawing in a short hiss grabbed everyone’s attention. Ron was immediately by her side but she waved him off as the moment passed.
“Just more Braxton hicks, I’m fine.” Hermione huffed rubbing her hands over her swollen belly. She was literally due any day so she had everyone on their toes. “Little Rose is just going through the motions.”
Ron sighed but sat beside his wife looking anxious. “Well she needs to make up her mind, don’t she?”
“Would be nice, yes.” Hermione said softly deciding she wanted to stand. She struggled, prompting Ron and Ginny to help her despite her grumbles. “I’m good guys; just want to walk around a bit.”
Harry narrowed his eyes watching his friend closely while the others slowly returned to the conversation at hand. It had been Draco that had pointed out the change in her scent a few days ago and Edge was able to confirm that little Rose was getting ready to join them. Since then, one of them was with her at all times to keep a close watch for any more scent changes signaling Hermione’s start of labor. It had been subtle, but Harry had picked up on her scent as she walked by him. It had changed once again and his instincts were on alert.
Standing and following his friend into the kitchen, Harry found Hermione leaned over one of the cabinets, and arm wrapped around her belly, and walked over to her. “Those aren’t false contractions, Hermione.”
She jumped slightly turning to look at him. “Yeah, I know, but it is still too early to panic and I don’t want Ron hovering over me. I’m nervous enough as it is.”
Harry leaned closer and sniffed at her ignoring her annoyed expression. Her scent told him she was right and still in the very early stages. If the village midwife was correct, Hermione still had hours to go.
Hermione has entered labor. Still early but thought I would warn everyone. Harry reached out to the clan.
Edge answered. Severus is still at the cottage. We don’t want to overcrowd her but will return and stay close. Keep us updated.
Harry sent his affirmative smiling softly at the concern and excitement in his Sire’s voice. Little Rose would want for nothing he was sure. Harry almost felt sorry for any boys she might encounter as she got older.
“You told the others, haven’t you?” Hermione sighed clenching her teeth as another contraction hit her, this one stronger than the last.
“Of course I did.” Harry stated not feeling the least bit sorry about it.
A few minutes later Severus entered the room breathing through his nose taking in the scents in the room. Ron followed him moving to Hermione with the twins and Ginny peaking around the door.
“Why didn’t you say anything, ‘Mione?” Ron questioned fussing at his wife.
Hermione groaned not bothering to answer as more pains ran through her bending over the counter slightly. Her scent was starting to spike making Harry turn concerned eyes to Severus.
“She is progressing quicker than originally thought.” Severus answered the unspoken question. “I have already informed Midwife Bell and she will be here shortly.”
They barely spoke after that, everyone trying to help Hermione stay as comfortable as possible which was a very hard thing to do. Hermione quickly became snappish the only one truly willing to not stand down from her being Severus who simply glared at her until she caved. Midwife Bell arrived with her assistant and practically shooed everyone out except for Ron. The red head absolutely refused to leave his wife his stubborn streak coming out in full force. Hermione talked the midwife into agreeing.
Hours passed. Harry paced anxiously waiting for any news from inside the cottage and not even Severus could ease his nerves. Edge sat on the railing of the porch his fingers drumming an anxious beat. The three wolves seemed the most calm, Silver resting under Edge’s dangling feet with Cobalt and Moony curled around each other in the grass. The occasional cry from Hermione reached them making everyone tense further.
“What is taking so long?” Harry grumbled.
“These things take time, Harry.” Severus responded.
Harry continued to pace. “It’s so nerve whacking though.” A hand ran through his hair anxiously.
Silver snorted. “Would you rather be in Granger’s place, Potter?”
Harry stopped and went wide eyed as another cry come from inside the small cottage. The color left his face imagining what his friend was going through.
Another snort came from the silver wolf. “Didn’t think so.”
More time passed before a cry, this time shrill and clearly unhappy, broke the air. Everyone was on their feet staring at the cottage with wide eyes as the crying continued before tapering off as the babe was most likely wrapped up and handed to her mother.
“She’s here.” Harry breathed. “Rose is here.”
It would be the next night before any of them would get to see little Rose Weasley. Harry, being Godfather, got to hold her first, smiling down at the little sleepy face of his Goddaughter. Edge, as Clan Sire, held her next. They all got to hold and coo over the newest Weasley making sure to take in her scent and confirming it to memory. The only time Hermione actually got to hold her daughter was when she was being fed but the exhausted mom was okay with that for the time being. Hermione knew Rose was in very safe hands.
Harry knew that one day, everyone here would pass, even the little baby he was currently holding in his arms. She would grow up, go to Hogwarts, meet boys, date boys, and eventually get married with her own children. He would outlive all of them by centuries, but looking down at Rose’s tiny face; he knew it would be worth it. That he would be a part of their lives for generations to come. Plus he had the clan. He had Edge, Draco, Remus, and Sirius all of them living a similar lifespan to his own.
Severus moved to sit beside Harry leaning over to peak in on the sleeping baby girl wrapped up in her blankets. “She really is something else.”
Harry smiled up at his mate. He also had Severus, the mate he had never before dreamed of having. When he had first transitioned, Harry had thought his life was forfeit, that he would be destined to live and die alone. Harry looked around at his clan and all the Weasley’s laughing and talking comfortably with each other celebrating the start of a new generation.
Harry had found a family, a stitched together clan of misfits, and that made it all worth living for.
